To quote The Rock "If you're going to have a cheat day, make it EPIC you've earned it"…read more A staple to the community of Watsonville, I absolutely love what they are doing here. The owners are so nice. Watsonville has no shortage of great food, but the slice project remains ONE of my favorite places to grab a slice of pizza in the area. The slices are generous, before I became a health conscience junkie I would eat about 4 slices by myself (those days are far behind me) but every once in awhile I will have a slice of pizza in moderation. Their crust is thin, blistered from the wood-fired oven, just the right balance of chew and crispiness. The toppings are creative without trying too hard, and every ingredient taste high quality. What I love most is that they don't overload the pizza. Their crust combinations are thoughtful, letting each ingredient shine instead of burying everything under a mountain of random stuff. I always ask for gluten free crust, you have to call in advance so they can prepare it, my favorite is the Lil' Pep. The atmosphere is casual, energetic and perfectly located. Whether you are a local or visiting from out of town, this is ONE of the spots that consistently lives up to its reputation. I don't come here as much as I used to, but everyone once in a while is good enough for me. - thank you for the hospitality and keep up the good work

The restaurant itself definitely needs improvements as the decor was pretty bad & with broken items on the walls, took a star away for that reason. Food - 3, service - 3, ambiance - noisy casual…read more We've been here several times in both small and larger groups, weekdays and weekends. We like to support local family run businesses and the food has been good in the past. The wait staff are consistently friendly and mostly competent. We've been pleased that when asked about gluten-free options each time, the waiters know about 90% of the menu off the top of their heads and aren't afraid to say they need to ask the kitchen when there's an item they're not sure about, rather than guess the answer, as has happened at other restaurants. Saturday we had a group of 8 that were seated at 4:45, so not exactly rush hour. We finally had to ask for water after 15 min. It was close to an hour from when we placed our orders before the food began arriving. I had informed the waiter of an onion allergy and requested no onions anywhere on the plate, as well as subbing extra veggies for the pasta. My food arrived with onions throughout the veggies. While I appreciate that they quickly took the plate back to fix it, the new plate had only a single serving of veggies which were so undercooked that even with the steak knife if was difficult to cut, and not great to chew either. I quickly gave up and saved it to finish cooking at home. Another guest ordered the tuna fresh catch rare, and it arrived between medium and medium rare, which was quite disappointing. But at least his veggies were closer to al dente. Another small irritation was that they brought out bread and olive oil, but there were only 5 pieces for our group of 8 so we asked for another one for our end of the table, and they charged us. While we recognized many staff as longtime employees, both the food and the service didn't live up to previous visits, which is even more disappointing because we brought new people to experience their food. Given this experience, it'll probably be awhile before we go back.

My pork chops were cooked perfectly and it comes with mashed potato and delicious mixed vegetables. Staffs and service were excellent! Chicken Breast with Mole: Chicken breast in mole sauce made with chile, clove, cinnamon, and tomato. Only $26.00 The sauce was rich and chocolatey with a hint of cinnamon. My plate came with flour tortillas, refried beans and rice. I'd come back just for the Mole. One of the best I've tasted. We were in Watsonville for a tournament and were looking for a place to have dinner. We had heard…read moregreat things about Jalisco and were excited to give it a try. The restaurant is located in a beautiful traditional building with a lot of character. I really enjoyed the ambiance and decor, which created a warm and inviting atmosphere. Even though the restaurant was busy, they were able to seat us right away. The menu was extensive, offering a wide variety of options. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa, which were both good. The salsa had a nice flavor, and the chips were fresh. We also ordered the nachos as an appetizer. For our entrees, I ordered Combo Plate #6, which included a chile verde burrito, a cheese enchilada, and a carne asada taco. We also ordered a carne asada taco plate with a cheese enchilada and a chimichanga. When the food arrived, the presentation was impressive, and the portions were very generous. Unfortunately, this is where our experience started to decline. The rice and beans were good, but the chile verde burrito was quite dry. The pork lacked tenderness and was overcooked. The cheese enchilada was decent, though not particularly memorable. The carne asada taco was also disappointing. While the tortilla was excellent and the meat was well-seasoned, the steak itself was very fatty and undercooked. In fact, no one at our table was able to finish their steak tacos because of the quality of the meat. The chimichanga was another letdown. It arrived covered in sauce like a wet burrito, which eliminated the crispy texture you would expect from a chimichanga. As a result, it became soggy and still somehow tasted dry inside. The highlight of the meal was definitely the nachos--simple, flavorful, and enjoyable. The service was also very good. Our server was attentive, regularly refilling our drinks and bringing additional chips without us having to ask. Overall, we really wanted to love this place because the atmosphere and service were excellent. Unfortunately, the food fell short of our expectations. I probably wouldn't return for dinner, but I would consider stopping by for happy hour, some nachos or appetizers, and to enjoy the ambiance.

It isn't trying to be overly trendy or fancy, and the emphasis on local ingredients and the Pajaro Valley gives it some character. My partner had the Mediterranean pasta with grilled chicken, and our son had the steak dinner with fries and vegetables. I ordered the evening special, which was cheese tortellini with prawns in a creamy sauce. Everything was very good, and the portions were generous. They also brought bread to the table before dinner and kept us supplied during the meal. We had a bottle of Alfaro Pinot Noir with dinner. It was a good local wine and paired nicely with the meal. We also appreciated seeing local wines represented on the menu. We finished by sharing the crème brûlée. It was quite tasty and considerably larger than we expected... definitely enough to share. The service was a real highlight. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and prompt throughout the meal. Since we were visiting the area, he also took some time to share a few local tips, including where to find some particularly good sausages and meats. It was a nice personal touch and added to the experience. Overall, California Grill was a very good find in Watsonville: good food, generous portions, excellent service and a nice connection to the local agricultural community. A solid four-star experience, and somewhere we'd be happy to visit again.
