I have been coming to Isla Mujeres for 6 years and every year I stay at Privilege Aluxes. It is truly one of my favorite places! Privilege is in a perfect location on Isla. From the ferry, it is about a 15 minute walk, so there is no need to get a taxi or golf cart when you arrive. The hotel is walking distance to Hidalgo street, where there is shopping, bars, and restaurants. Privilege is located on the North Beach, which is the best on the island. It is a private beach, so the people selling things cannot bother you. The beach includes umbrellas and chairs. The waiters at the beach will bring your drinks and food all day. So nice! The hotel also provides beach towels everyday. The rooms are always great. There are rooms with a "pool view" and rooms with a "city view". I prefer the pool view, not only because it is pretty, but also there is less sound from the street. The city view faces downtown, which can be a little loud. We get a suite, which is plenty big for 2 people and enough for one other person to sleep in the living room. The bathrooms include a shower and bath. Of course, do not drink the water! They provide bottled water in the bathrooms to brush your teeth, etc. The rooms are cleaned everyday, along with a restocked mini frig. There are also different packages you can buy- all inclusive or breakfast. We always do all inclusive, which includes- breakfast, stocked mini frig everyday (soft drinks, beer, snacks), unlimited room services, Lunch and dinner at any of the three restaurants, unlimited drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), unlimited food at the beach or pool. This vacation is basically all about eating, drinking, and relaxing. For us it is worth it. But, they also have just the free breakfast option for those who want to eat lunch and dinner off the resort. Just be careful with the food...don't want to get sick and ruin your time! Either way, this is a great deal for a five star, relaxing vacation. I always feel very, very safe at Privilege as well. There is a 24 hour guard and a beach guard to watch belongings. I have never had any issues with my safety or theft at this hotel. Like any foreign country, it is always smart to stay alert. The front desk is always so helpful. This last visit they even upgraded our room since it was my husband's birthday. The day of his birthday we came back from breakfast and they had decorated! It was so nice. The front desk can also provide pesos. They have great suggestions for activities on the island and can help with phone calls to the island or United States. We visited about 9 months ago and on our last visit there were some major updates to the hotel. The food has been improved and the rooms have a new design. I love it even more! I really have a special place in my heart for Isal Mujeres and I hope everyone can experience this great island....and stay at Privilege Aluxes!! read more

WORST VACATION EVER! We booked a one week in this terrible "resort" with American Express and paid for all inclusive. When we arrived for check in, the lady in the reception told us that we didn't pay for all inclusive even that we showed her the receipt from Amex website. Then she said that the "resort" doesn't work with Amex with all inclusive part not before she said we booked with expedia even that she saw our receipt from Amex travel. We were so upset, we just arrived to Isla Mujeres and the "resort" we choose and paid for all inclusive, trying to upsell us for $700.00 American dollars!!! to make it all inclusive. We definitely didn't want to pay this amount only because we realized that this place is a huge SCAM! We decided that we don't want to stay in this place but unfortunately the "resort" refused to give us our money back. Cynthia (call herself manager) got involved and told us that she going to give us better room with hot tub but no all inclusive as we paid for. I didn't like that but when I saw my girlfriend crying I decided to stay and do the best to give her the best time as I can. Here all the issues started: They gave us a room next to a new room that is still under construction, so much noise on vacation that should be quiet and calm. We didn't even said anything only because we knew we have to deal with. The next day I paid Cynthia $100.00 USD to make our staying all inclusive at least for one day. All inclusive is a blue bracelet and not all inclusive is a white bracelet. Then I realized that they giving very cheap liquor's and better not even to mention the horrible food. Well, Cynthia told me that I MUST to replace the next day at noon time our bracelets from blue to white again, we were the only couple in the resort with white bracelets, so embarrassing! Only for one day for $100,00 USD we had the privilege to use all inclusive with the blue bracelets. The next day in the morning we went to Cancun for other attractions. Around 1pm Cynthia called me and yell at me "why you didn't return the blue bracelets. I was completely shocked, How dare she talk like that to a client, unbelievable. The next day we woke up to a huge water puddle in our room, it was a very rainy day and because the door to the balcony not sealed all our room flooded. Our clothes and other stuff got wet and some were destroyed. We called the reception to let them know, Cynthia asked "why you didn't tell us before you cleaned it all by yourself" then she gave us free lunch (lunch that we anyway paid in advance) I don't know if it's funny or sad to be honest. This food was horrified and the waiter was super mean to us like someone told him to act like that against us. The next day we went again to Cancun for the whole day, when we came to the "resort" around 11pm, we were shocked to see our room FLOODED AGAIN. I called the reception and of course Cynthia answered and said that she'll report it. Since now I didn't hear anything from her or anyone else in the "resort". Few other things: When we arrived to our room day one, we saw that there is a blockage in the bathroom sink and the toilet lights bulb blow out, we called the reception, seven days later and nobody came to fix it. There is many great hotels and resorts in Isla Mujeres, don't do the same mistake we did. My vacation ruined only because of bunch of crocks that run this place and poor customer service. read more

Just to be clear I am writing this review as I sit under a palapa on the beach with a cocktail in my hand and sand on my feet. When we first arrived at Privilege Aluxes the guy at the front desk greeted us and checked us in with ease. Very quick and smooth. Nice little cocktail during check in. Bellboy took us and our bags to the room and is was much better than I was expecting. Very clean, comfortable and beautiful. We are staying in the honeymoon suite. It has a living room and a separate bedroom. The bathroom is huge. The view is incredible. You couldn't ask for more. The pool is so warm. It was a nice break from the sun on the beach to go to the pool and get some shade and have a drink at the pool bar. A+ on the pool, the pool bar and the waiting service. The beach was easy to find a chair and palapa. A lot of people get up early and put towels on the prime spots so if you want a front row spot you'd better get up and mark your territory before the wolves come. I'm more of a back row near the bat and bathroom kinda guy. So in conclusion, I think this place is top notch. I have no complaints. If I could make a few suggestions it would be to change the bracelets that are scratchy in the shower and well you know. I stretched mine out so I could slip it off while in the room. It was ok. Money exchange was not ideal. Every time I tried to change dollars for peso they had me running around. Had to go get passport, then they didn't have the money. Was not fun but just went to a different money exchange and the issue was no longer. The last thing would be the room service. As the food was really good the delivery took a long time plus there is no ice machine so you have to order ice through room service. So when you get home after dinner and want to have a cocktail on the balcony you have to wait and hour for room service. This was by far the worst of our problems so don't feel sorry for me. I lived. I would not recommend staying at this hotel at all unless you are coming just you and your spouse. There are much cheaper places that are just as nice. So let's start with my grievances: they won't let anyone not paying for the hotel even come inside. I came here with my mom, sister and kids. My husband and I stayed here and my mom, sister, and kids stayed at a house close by. They wouldn't even let anyone come up to my room. Not even to grab their things that were in my bags. They send security to chase after you if you do. And then security stands there at your door until you leave. They wouldn't even let my one son use the pool. I couldn't even pay extra to let him use it for a day or even an hour. I'm a paying guest and others had children in the pool but because my kids weren't staying at the hotel with us.... even though we also were paying for a deluxe suite which could sleep more people. Its bizarre to me that your at a hotel but can't have guests come to your room or to the pool. What is that?! The hotel is harder to get in than a prison. It's unbelievable. Also, they do have a steam room and sauna. But you have to pay $25 per person for 40 minutes and they tell you which you can be in and for how long. It's supposed to be a vacation hotel. But they were so strict and so many weird rules. And nobody wants to help you or make you happy. Also you have the "beach club" you have to pay extra for you to have guests come to. It's nothing special. It's lawn chairs and a restaurant and bar..... you can sit on the beach with guests for free everywhere else..... read more

If you want a relaxing vacation, this is the place to go. Most guests we saw chose an all-inclusive package and we did just that. Privilege is on an island called Isla Mujeres - it's not too far off the coast of Cancun. We flew into Cancun, took a van to a dock, and took a ferry across the bay. Even if you don't stay at Privilege, check out this very cool destination. One end is touristy, but you can rent a golf cart and check out the rest of the island which has several landmarks and many locals. Privilege is in the perfect location. On one side is the beach, on the other side is the main tourist street with many local stores and restaurants, and it's right off one of the major roads that traverses the island. There are several different room choices which are mostly determined by whether you want an ocean or city view and whether you want a hot tub. We chose an ocean view and we could (sort of) see the ocean a ways off. The all inclusive pass gives you unlimited food and drink. There are several different restaurants: one on the ocean (dinner at tables each night and service to umbrellas on the beach during the day), one on the street with an Asian theme, one that serves both breakfast and dinner buffets, and a poolside restaurant (as well as service delivered poolside). You won't get bored - there are so many good choices. Additionally, there is free room service and they stock a mini fridge with beer, pop, and water each day. I won't describe each restaurant, but our favorite was the beach side service - you can spend all afternoon at the beach with constant beer refills! The room overall was fine - ours was a suite. It was big enough, had an updated bathroom, and a double balcony (although one was kind of useless). The robes are a nice touch but be warned that nearly all the TV stations are in Spanish. The last thing I'll mention are the actual attractions. The beach is private but is adjacent to other properties so there are lots of people in the actual water. It's clean sand and pristine water - one of the better beaches I've visited (but there are buoys around all the beaches because there is a maximum depth you can swim to). There are two adjacent pools. One pool has the swim-up bar and a bridge. On the opposite side of the bridge are bathrooms, towels, and a workout facility. Overall, this is a great place to visit. It's a little pricy but the all-inclusive feature really simplifies things. I highly recommend Privilege. read more

This hotel was pretty dang awesome! My husband and I were just out there for my friends wedding. I felt completely relaxed and safe. The security guys were nice and helpful! The room was a good size and I was at the pool everyday. The hotel is just steps away from the beach and shops. I loved the little huts that you could lay under by the pool or on the beach. The staff is friendly! The food was super good! Be sure to get the all inclusive option, it's worth it! Having a huge tub on our balcony was epic! You can rent a golf cart to ride around the island and the ferry is very easy to hop on and off. read more

The room is amazing, very clean and modern. We had a suite with a double balcony and a decent view of coconut trees and the ocean. We went ahead and did the all inclusive package, which for the money, is worth the extra. Especially of you take into account the price of meals on the island itself. Service is great. There are more than enough people to help with whatever you need or want. The food, oh I wish I could see what others have seen in the last couple of months. Maybe we had a bad week, maybe with all the free booze, they have to cut some corners. I don't know, but the food was acceptable at best . Best meal by leaps and bounds was chicken kabobs during Saturday lunch with rice and refried black beans. We had a great time, it was worth almost every penny. The island is pretty. The service is awesome. The beach is glorious. They let us bring blankets out and sleep in a cabana on the beach overnight. Then, sent a security guard to make sure we were good. Upgraded our room for a very low price increase. Drinks were strong enough. Swim up bar is great. The towels were white. There's a nice sized lock box in all the rooms. The grounds are very well kept. I want to visit another property as soon as I can. Really it was just what the doctor ordered. This would have been five stars if the food made more sense or had a little more culinary sense. read more

We ate at satay almost every night and were truly impressed with all the options that were all inclusive. From sushi to thai dishes to steak. Service was so friendly and helpful. Ate on the beach with service right to your umbrella for lunch every day. Those guys work so hard in that heat. Tried to stick to Mexican food for best option. Would love to go back one day but not in summer its so hot and humid. Always had chairs and umbrellas available because I like to stay in the shade. Great location--near golf carts, shops, convenience stores, beach clubs, bars, and restaurants. Their own beach club is on a most beautiful beach. Rooms are nice and impeccably clean. The pool area is in desperate need of an updated aesthetic to include a whole new design. It's tile and decking appear dated. The breakfast buffet leaves much to be desired. Hot food is rarely hot and barely palatable. The omelette station is the best they offer there. The hotel manager (I believe based on the way he was dressed) was at the hotel from sun up to sun down most days--an impressive work ethic. They do have excellent servers at the beach during the day and beach club for dinner. Dani, Misael, Oscar, and Greta are particularly great! The food at the beach club for breakfast is good but does require a reservation. The Asian restaurant--Satay--was just okay. We didn't feel the need to visit there more than once. We may be back for the beautiful beach and location that make it worth it; however, we would likely not do the all inclusive. Better food elsewhere on the island. read more

I met an interesting fellow on the beach who told me that he had sexual relations with a different female every day for the last two years. It didn't seem to matter which nationality I quizzed him about, he had them all. He had so much in fact that he said he no longer had any interest. There apparently is a magic phrase used on the island but it only works on women in groups of two. The next time you encounter that particular situation just say the phrase "wanna party" and prepare for a wild time. Overall: Privilege Aluxes is very good. The service is good, and I plan to return. The food ranges from no bueno (e.g., room service pizza) to excellent (e.g., ceviche at the beach club, fish tacos at Sabor). It's a wonderful place. Nice pool and beautiful part of Playa Norte when you're on the beach, which is just a few steps away. Food: Chocolate brownie (from room service) no es bueno, but the chocolate cake (from Sabor is great). Hugo, who works in Sabor, is terrific. He is a Master of customer service. Another thing about Sabor...Don't be turned off by the buffet breakfast, because this place rocks at lunch. Great hotel, friendly staff, clean! Stayed here for 5 days and have been pleased with my stay. The rooms are nice and the tub on balcony is a great touch as well. I went the all inclusive way and so happy I did, really makes your stay a lot less stressful. The food here.. Eh.. I have had some things that were great and others not so great. The breakfast is the best by far!!! The beach club has good food and the "grill night" at sabor was great. The pool is very nice relaxing and clean. My view was wonderful couldn't have asked for a more prefect view!!! When I return to Mexico for another visit I will stay at this hotel again. read more

Privilege aluxes will forever be my favorite! From the minute we walked in we were treated like royalty. Fresh towels waiting for us along with a cold glass of champagne. My husband and I got married 2 years ago during my spring break at school and due to our crazy schedule of work, school and a 6 year old son we weren't able to have a honeymoon but boy did he come through for our big event. We went to celebrate our second year of marriage along with our long awaited honeymoon and everyone at privilege made sure this was a time to remember for ever. We got there before 3 which was check in time but we got checked in and were given access to all the amenities in the building. We got the all inclusive package which I highly recommend! It's so worth it. We drank and ate like royalty! Javier who is one of the maintenance guys and makes sure to keep the facility clean remembered our faces and was very friendly every single time we ran into him. He is from Yucatan and was so kind to translate phrases I remembered from my childhood. His customer service skills were beyond great! Jose Maria and Edwin from Sabor were also amazing! They made sure we were taken care of and constantly checked in on us to make sure we had all we needed and were comfortable, and Jose the bartender there was also great! And makes amazing drinks!! I recommend if you go there for lunch on a Wednesday you try their ravioli, delicious! They're buffets for dinner are also amazing and great because they have a different theme everyday and for breakfast they also have amazing food!! Look for these guys and tell them I sent you they'll take care of you! Onto the beach club, the service was always great whether you're eating at the restaurant or on the beach hanging out. The drinks keep flowing as long as you keep asking. Dont forget to try their chocolate cake and the shrimp tacos!! And ask for the picante! Best tacos ever, hands down. Satay was were we had our honeymoon dinner and like everywhere else the customer service was unreal! Super quick and they make great recommendations if you're not sure on what to get. Javier in the front desk was also great! I went to him late in the evening to ask about any special accommodations they have for birthdays as my husband's birthday was the very next day and he told me that had I been in there earlier in the day it wouldn't have been a problem but since I was in there sorta late those request had already been sent out, he sent an email and said he would try his best to make something happen. Well surprise! The very next day after being out about we came back to our room to a beautiful chocolate cake plate that read "happy birthday" 2 glasses and 1 bottle of champagne. My husband was so surprised and his face was priceless! Thank you Javier for making this happen...also him loving hip-hop and rap music gave him an extra boost in my books! He really went above and beyond! Nemo at the pool was also great! He was fast with the delicious drinks! Literally everyone we ran into was amazing! I loved it!! And the fact that the place is so exclusive to its guest! All in all this place was great and I cant wait to return to visit my family at Privilege Aluxes. Book them! Food at each of the restaurants was far better than at other all-inclusives where we've stayed. Satay's food and presentation was off the charts! Highly recommend! Privilege is an ADULT resort, but in a good way. Quiet by the pool and around the property. That's why children probably weren't allowed as reported by another reviewer. As of 1/1/2019 it's my understanding that no children will be allowed on the property at all, which suits us just fine. We'll be going back soon! :) read more

Room reserved: Presidential Suite with roof top pool Room flooded twice during a sporadic storm ruined several personal items one of which included a phone. No hot water for 2 days! All inclusive was a joke: pool closed @6:30pm no other places on property to hang and have drinks unless a reservation was made. Which totally expected both food and staff where not at all friendly and food was horrible. Spoke to front office prior to leaving along with continued phone calls all but to be ignored and hung up on almost every time. No room change during issues nor compensation. You may have a great experience if you go here but if anything and I mean anything goes south I promise you will be put at the very bottom of their list! Why should they care they Already got your payment and their minimum wage really doesn't constitute great attitudes. This is an amazing place to stay on the island. We had the best suite available and the rooms were huge, with amazing views and your own swimming pool. We did do the all-inclusive but I wish we would have saved our money on that. The food was just ok and the drinks seemed really weak. You are better off adventuring around the island, we found some pretty great spots (like one behind the gas station next to the port you come in at, amazing food and drinks for super cheap.) The pool and beach were amazing though and was just a short distance apart. The staff was very accommodating and set up our car service to and from the airport which was really nice to have. You have to get a massage from the girls here they are amazing. I get massages once a month and I have to tell you these girls were the best I have ever had. Well worth the money. Also, rent a golf cart and experience the island, we had so much fun riding around the island and finding cool spots to eat or stop and take pictures. I would also recommend, diving with Whale Sharks. One of the coolest experiences of my life. It really is not scary and I get sea sick and nothing a little Dramamine did not fix. While out in the water dolphins swam next to our boat and we had the opportunity to snorkel and eat home made food from our tour guides. It was an experience of a lifetime. ***make sure you get out there early though it gets super crowded. Also, use the photographer at the hotel, his pictures turned out great and was well worth it. The only other down fall besides the all inclusive was some of the guest at the resort were either vulgar or extremely intoxicated. Not the fault of the resort, just something to note. Overall resort: - Good location on North Beach - Great pool lounge & beach area - 3 restaurants + pool snack bar - Pool bar, gym, & spa amenities - Clean, secure & bug-free - Had to wear a wristband all week which was uncomfortable but also understandable for security reasons - Interesting guests (aka a lot of chain smoking, shot-taking & cursing in the pool). But we also met some quality couples & the rowdy ones seemed to go elsewhere at night. Staff - Had a great server at the Beach Club a few nights but the rest were not as friendly or attentive as our last all-inclusive in DR (even with frequent tipping). The service was relatively fast, especially at the beach cabana, so that made up for it. Sabar Restaurant - Amazing breakfast buffet! Did not try the a la carte lunch (can only sit indoors so we skipped it) or the dinner buffet options. Satay Restaurant - Delicious appetizers (spring rolls & Nigiri tuna) but overly sauced/salty entrees and an awkward ambiance. It's in the worst location of the 3 - facing the busy street and you must make a reservation in advance (even though it was empty at 7:30 PM). I'd skip. Beach Club - By far our favorite spot for lunch & dinner. The Rib Eye was the only entree we didn't like (too chewy) and I'd pass on the desserts. The rest was spot on - Coconut shrimp, guacamole, ceviche, fish & rice in foil, all the taco varieties, risotto, etc. You must order your appetizers & entrees at the same time. Very impressive that there was never a wait for a 2-top! Pool Snack Bar - Only had the guac, which again was awesome, but the rest of the food looked like it'd been sitting there all day (fries, onion rings, wings). Spa & gym - Never tried but the gym looked nice overlooking the pool! I regretted not packing workout clothes (but who am I kidding? Not really...) Superior Room: Cons -It's our fault for not reading the fine print but we came in expecting "superior" to mean one of the better rooms. I recommend the Suite Deluxe or nicer (could've upgraded for $30/night more & it's worth it) to get a better view & quieter quarters. Our room overlooked the school so we were woken up every day at 7:30 AM from kiddos playing- which was kind of a nice alarm to get us moving so we made due. The room next door was empty until our last night when we realized the walls were paper thin so we heard every word. The mini bar could've used some better/more substantial snacks like nuts, cookies & crackers. Pros - The room was clean, the mini bar re-stocked 1x/day (4 beers, 4 airplane bottles, sodas & chips), huge bathroom, huge patio w/ jacuzzi tub & a door leading from the shower to the patio. Transportation - Don't use the hotel transportation option ($70/pp round trip). We booked a round trip airport shuttle w/ USA Transfer the night before we departed. They met us outside the airport for our ride to the ferry and then they waited for us when we were 30 minutes late for our airport departure. The ferry was about $17/pp round trip and you can buy tickets upon arrival. The resort is an easy 5-10 minute walk from the ferry so you don't need a cab. Our overall expense was ~$50/pp round trip. Ferry - Enjoyable ride, cheap, good views, buy beer in the convenience store beforehand ($1.50 beers - I'll take it). WARNING - get there extra early for your airport departure. We arrived at 1:45 PM for the 2 PM ferry & there was already a huge line. For some unknown reason, the 2 PM ferry never showed so we had to wait for the next one. Thankfully, the airport security line was super quick so it worked out in the end. All-in-all, worth it for the expense & the beautiful surroundings. read more

I really don't know where to begin with Privilege Aluxes. We were so excited about staying here for a little of 6 months when we booked our vacation to Isla Mujeres. We booked with the all-inclusive option thinking that was going to be a great deal. Finally the big day arrived and we flew down to Cancun and got on the ferry to get to Isla Mujeres. Once there we walked to the hotel since there was no hotel shuttle and no taxi available at the time. We were just excited about being in Isla. Once we got to the hotel we were greeted and told that for no additional charge they had upgraded our room. We had originally booked a Superior room because online it appeared to be a bedroom with a separate living area and of course the romantic jacuzzi tub on the balcony that overlooked the ocean; at least this is what it looked like online. Anyway the idea of an upgrade really excited us and we went up to our upgraded room which looked like the room we thought we had booked, but there was no romantic jacuzzi garden tub; so we went back to complain which was a mistake since they then put us back into a Superior Room which would take another hour to get ready. Once we got our key to the Superior Room we were shocked at how small the room was and how there was no separate living area; not to mention there was no ocean view, it looked over the cemetary next door and down at the hotel guard stand and busy road with an elementary school across the street. We asked if we could go back to the upgraded room, but we were too late. Upon arguing that their website and other websites were misleading about the Superior Room, the manager got very defensive and almost called the cops; yet she could not find a "real" photo on their website for the room. We finally gave up and kept the Superior Room they put us in. So if you get upgraded, please keep the upgrade or you will be sorry. The room was small and not what we expected, but it was very clean and housekeeping kept it clean for us each day. As far as the mini-bar in the room it was stocked each day too with 2 Coronas, 2 Corona Lights, 2 7-ups, 2 orange drinks, 2 pepsi sodas, 2 waters, and 2 bags of chips. The housekeeping crew would also leave 2 bottles of water in the bathroom for brushing teeth, etc. So we went to the pool and it was nice, there are 2 hot tubs by the pool as well. The swim up bar at the pool is nice, but very small; and the service at the bar is ok, but could be a little better. Here if you have all-inclusive you will get whatever they have on tap; one day it Modelo Especial and the next day it was Corona; it was decent, but the kegs tended to be somewhat warm. One night we made reservations to their semi-formal restaurant Savoy. We were expecting it to be grand, but another let down of this resort.We walked in and they had so many incense burning it was choking us. We were seated downstairs and given menus. The staff here was super friendly and super helpful; but it didn't take away the fact that ants were crawling around the table. So anyway here we are all dressed up and other tables start to come in; we realize that the dress code is not enforced when people are wearing shorts, t-shirts, and sandals in. Anyway we order 2 dishes and a couple of glasses of wine. The wine selections are red or white; think Two Buck Chuck from Trader Joes. The dishes were a steak dish which was ok and the other was a curry dish which was bland to say the least. After dinner was over we decided that would be the last night we dine there; even though the staff was great, it just wasn't Thai and it wasn't resort quality. The next night we tried the restaurant on the beach and it was good, but nothing great. I had a steak that tasted as if it came off a truck tire and my wife had salad that she enjoyed. The service here was the best of anywhere and while we didn't enjoy the food we did enjoy the fact that after dinner we could go sit down near the ocean and the servers made sure to bring us many drinks until we said no mas. It was relaxing having night caps and hearing the tide roll in. Room service at Privilege Aluxes is about the only part of the all-inclusive worth having. They do a great job bringing you what you want late at night after you get home from bar hopping/clubing. I recommend the ice cream. The other food was ok, but not when you are sober. Overall Privilege Aluxes ok, but not really a resort. It is in a great location and has a great staff, but the quality fails. It is very expensive compared to other hotels in the area and the nearby B&Bs. And I would say avoid the whole all-inclusive plan; you are just pissing your money away. You can eat, drink, and play in town for 1/2 what they charge for their all-inclusive. read more

FYI no one wants your 60 grit towel for a souvenir! Drank the wrong bottle water in the room (all the same brand). More Money. Sat on the edge of the concrete patio. Intimidation and money. Wanted to switch rooms because the ants were in your room. That is considered an upgrade because they don't have your same room size. Pay more money for resorts stupidity. Advice. This was our first visit to Isla Mujeres and we can't wait to go back! Privilege was a fantastic home base for us during the trip. The room was great, the grounds beautiful, and the service was exceptional. We booked the all inclusive package so all meals and drinks were provided. You get to pick from relaxing at the pool or on an amazing beach. We took turns at both and enjoyed them both. The hotel is also close to many shops and restaurants. If you want to explore the island the office staff will point you in the right direction or help you reserve a golf cart. Great stay all around. Enjoy! read more

For us, it was perfect. We had never visited the island and spent 6 days on our honeymoon at Privilege Aluxes. We arrived to a very friendly staff with two glasses of champagne and cold towels to wipe our heads with. Olivia was our helper and Jaime our concierge. Kathia was also great. We were able to pull cash (pesos) out at the front desk with no charge - although keep an eye on your bank account because charges will show up pending, then disappear for a couple days (adding back to your balance) and then draft out. So if you keep a ledger you're okay. Anyways, we were excited to enjoy our king bed room with a hot tub on the balcony. We had roses all over our bed and in our jacuzzi, along w a bottle of champagne. The bathroom was large and clean, the room very clean. The minibar and room service is all-inclusive if you get that deal, which was great. I left 50 pesos for the housekeeper each night (before our upgrade, I'll get to that) and she was great. Room always looked good and felt clean. We honestly only took a dip in the pool once for about 10 minutes before a massage, we spent the majority of our time at the beach. Private(ish), never overly busy, water looked like a pool. Gorgeous beach. Great service with unlimited drinks and food. I will say the food is mediocre by the ocean, ceviche and quesadillas are a good light snack while sucking down free piña coladas and beers. We enjoyed the spa service (a little too much) - while the prices and upgrades were good, we got addicted and dropped about $600 by the end of the week, not including tips. But they always had a deal upgrading from 50 min to 80, or 25% off a certain massage. We loved it and tipped well. That's another thing: tipping. I felt the service was good regardless, but hey, you're in Mexico and having fun while people wait on you hand a foot - you should tip. We stuck to 20% on food/drink and massages. Also, when I pulled money at the desk, I generally gave the person doing the transaction $50-100 pesos ($3-7) and our personal helper $40-50. And if I asked the concierge, he went out of his way to help us with whatever it was, draw maps, etc. and made sure to give $50-100 for his help, depending on what he did. Also, $100 pesos for taking our bags to the room. A downside turned into a positive: we had a screaming kid in the room next to us. It woke us at 7:45 our first morning, and he was pretty tough to deal with. I am very understanding, but felt like I didn't want to deal with this our entire honeymoon (it was all day and night, and those people were booked for the entire duration of our trip). Luckily, we called the desk and asked for a room transfer to a like room, unfortunately they were actually overbooked on our room type. But, starting the next day, they had a Platinum Suite available. Considering they needed our room, we worked out a GREAT price for the final 4 days of our trip. The Platinum was much more than we needed - it was two stories with a bedroom, two full bathrooms, large living room, bar, two balconies (one larger than our previous entire room), and a private swimming pool - all with an incredible fourth floor ocean view. While it was definitely superfluous, it made us feel like rockstars. It would have easily hosted our entire wedding party - way cool. It was great to take rinse-off dips in the warm pool. Awesome jet tub next to the tile shower in the downstairs bath as well. We ate way more downtown, but it was nice knowing we could enjoy a few meals at the resort for the cost of a tip, especially free drinks at the beach. Overall, great island, excellent resort and incredible service. We already have plans to come back, possibly in the same suite but with family included. read more

One of the best resorts in Mexico by far! The employees were so welcoming and attentive. They treated us like royalty! All inclusive is the way to go. Just remember to always leave a tip. The best time to go is mid to late August to avoid the crowds (if you prefer a more relaxed and quiet vacation). We were there during this time and were able to enjoy all of the amenities. I just returned from a week's vacation. The staff were incredibly nice, especially Pedro. The Beach club and beach area are really great. The food is mainly horrible, not just bad, but horrible. I would not pay for the all inclusive here. The beach club tacos and wings were fine. The buffet every morning was stone cold. The rooms are fine, but be aware they are very small (not at all like the pictures). I loved the staff and location of the resort, but it was definitely not a 5 star resort. read more

Small resort but it had everything we needed. Our honeymoon suite with pool view was spacious with comfortable beds & a pillow menu. We never saw our room attendant but he kept our room clean and got us everything we asked for. The beach was amazing but on the small side. The servers especially Raul were good. Great food from the beach bar. The only negative is that the beach is public so there are children on beach plus others not staying at the resort. They aren't allowed to hang around the Palapas though. The pools were nice & well kept. We also received great service here. The food at the buffet and the other restaurant was overall excellent. We did venture out around town for a few dinners and lunches. I recommend Tiny Gecko which has amazing tacos, drinks & views. Also, El Patio has good food, local beers & music. Some negatives: the checkin took over an hour for 3 couples which is ridiculous. Unlike other Mexican resorts they don't carry US currency at the front desk. Essentially they can't make change. So be sure to bring small bills or exchange your money. Also, they only have one English speaking channel so be sure to bring connections for tv if that's something u enjoy. Visited last April, but just getting around to Yelp. My husband and I planned a trip to Tulum, Isla Mujeres, and Cancun. We spent 3 nights at Privilege Aluxes, and it was the cheapest hotel out of all of the ones we stayed, and our favorite! Service was amazing; we decided to get the all inclusive option upon check in for 40/pp per night. It was totally worth it! The food was very good. We had breakfast/lunch/dinner at the beach club (which I believe is open to public), and tried breakfast at the buffet and dinner at Satay. All were very good. My favorite was dinner at the beach club when they had a Cuban band playing. They were very good! The front desk arranged for our golf cars (tip: pay the extra 5 bucks to keep them 24 hours, but make sure you return it by the exact hour or there will be extra charge). We ended up keeping ours 2 nights and used it any time we wanted. The pools are very nice and they will serve you drinks. If you want to eat by the pool, there is a little mini-buffet area that you have to eat in). We booked the platinum suite which had a beautiful rooftop deck and large private dipping pool. It was awesome! Ask for building 5 or 6 as those are closest to the beach. The location can't be beat. I would go back here in a heartbeat. read more

Wow! If you're looking for a nice getaway not in the bustling city of Cancun you've got to come here! Only a short ferry ride away from the hotel district. The folks are super nice and the food is amazing. It's not a big resort so you won't be overwhelmed with people. Drinks and food are easy to come by as they aren't crowded. Love the private area on the beach. The staff comes around very often so you'll never go thirsty (tip a little so they like you back). This is truly a place where you can relax, eat, and be merry. Ask the front desk person to help you with renting a golf cart. It is less expensive and more reliable. It is also a must to get the golf cart or you'll miss out on half the fun of the island. If you want a resort to lounge on the beach all day, get served drinks, get massages, feel safe, never worry about loud kids, or not finding a chair Privilege on Isla is the way to go. My bf and I spent 12 days at Privilege and loved every second of it. Firstly, Privilege has one of the best locations on the beach. We spent 90% of our time in lounge chairs, getting cocktails and playing in the beautiful white sand and ocean right there for only privilege guest to use. We chose to do the all-inclusive option even though I firmly am a believer in eating local food when traveling. But I am very glad we did the AI!! If you're a drinker or eater and plan to lounge on the beach most of your stay then I say get the AI if the price is right. It came out to $40 bucks a day a person for us...I kind of thought that was a lot since we could get our own alcohol and street tacos all day for prob cheaper blah blah blah... but YOU'RE ON VACATION!!! RELAX! I am so glad we decided to do the AI because not once did I think about money, look at prices or care if we spent $60 on a nice dinner out on the town. We enjoyed ourselves on the beach all day and drank and ate whenever and however much we wanted. And we still enjoyed food outside the hotel. The service by all the wait staff was awesome! The housekeepers were great and everyone at the front desk was so helpful and nice. We informed the front desk that we were celebrating our anniversary and they did the best they could to give us a bump up in our room! They even placed a bottle of champagne and a dessert tray in our room one day. Our room was great, I do not know the exact name of our room but it was in '5' and on the fourth floor. We had an ocean view on our porch, a spacious living room/kitchen a big bathroom and a bedroom in the back. The bedroom overlooked a cemetery but we didn't care. The rooms did have a musty smell in them which was a little annoying. The bathroom sink and shower in our room spouted a little bit too. The food at privilege is the only thing that I would like to see improve. I eat gluten free and dairy free and had a little bit of a tough time ordering food. There is ONE gluten free option at the breakfast buffet and they are bite size brownie/chocolate bread. They were the only labeled gf thing I found. They do NOT have allergy listing's on their menus or at the buffet. You really have to guess and then sometimes something that did not say it was breaded would come and I couldn't eat it. I asked a few waiters and they didn't seem very informed, which is fine but would be helpful if they had at least one titled gluten free/dairy free/vegan option on the menu every day. Have to have a reservation to eat at Satay (and no one was even in there ever) and I thought all of our dishes tasted the same. The beach club is the best service and food. The drinks could be stronger lol but it's not too much of a problem when doing AI. We ate shrimp & pork tacos almost every day, on the shrimp ask for corn tortillas. Every night the food at the beach club is different, we only ate dinner there a couple times and it was okay at best. When checking in at the front desk, they ask if you have any allergies and you fill out a card thing if you do. I didn't really understand this because housekeeping still brought only beer in our mini bar and Cheetos. It would be nice if they brought wine along with the beer if you marked gf option or something like that because beer has gluten. That was a little dissapointing but you can order drinks up to your room or go down to the bar and get " to go " drinks. Don't get me wrong, the food wouldn't stop me from coming back. However, it would make it much easier if they had allergy-friendly options on their menu or even a symbol next to eat item telling us whats in it. Also a dedicated gluten free section that has gf toast or bread at breakfast wouldn't be too hard to do. They do have gluten free pasta on the room service menu but only room service and it wasn't very good. Everything else about this place is awesome! it's the perfect mid-range "resort". It's nothing like a big resort in Cancun but it does the job fine. There is no activites or lots of entertainment but they do have singers or a band at the pool sometimes at night or at the beach club for dinner. We booked two suites for a week with all inclusive and it was a big mistake. Ordered room service and ask for 7shots and they told me only 4 drinks at the time. I told them we were 7 people and we had 2 suites. Still. Then giving us hard time getting drinks at all. Then they give me bs next morning when I tried to go to the buffet in the cs I wasn't properly dress. Hello, everyone was wearing swimming suits. Food was pretty good, some staff were very nice but others assholes. We are not coming back to this place again. Then the pool at the suites are very slippery, my friend Felt down and went to ER for stitches. They took forever to send someone to clean the blood or even to have assistance with a doctor or something. And bring us right away a paper to sign that wasn't the hotel's fault, instead of calling a doctor or do something to help out. Another night we went to have dinner at the beach club, and had a rib eye , witch according to them is for two people. An hour later our friends showed up and wanted to eat, so I ordered food for them and they say I cannot order cs I already ate. Seriously? I paid all inclusive and if I want to eat every 30 mins there should be no problem. So I started a argue and then the manager came and told me that my order was on the way. Pure pain in the ass. Hotel is one of the nicest on the island. The place is clean and beautiful. Staff very helpful and pleasant. The beach is private until you get about 30 feet to the water, then it's public. That was ok but got pretty crowded at certain times. The food was good, especially the breakfast with very nice choices and a nice dining room. Our room was beautiful and well-maintained. The only problem was the toilet that smelled like sewage. Maintenance basically deodorized it so the smell never went away. Disappointing. Overall, while it was pleasant, for the price it wasn't worth it. read more

Absolutely amazing!!!!! If there were a sixth star, they'd get it!!!! We spent one week at this hotel with a group for our wedding!!! I had never stayed at any sort of resort and didn't know what to expect but I really did not expect the personal friendly atmosphere that we got! It's not a small resort, but it doesn't have the feeling of a large overbearing and out of place resort may have. We had the all-inclusive package and with that you never know what you will get with the food and drinks or the service! We were so pleasantly surprised by ALL of their food and drinks, as well as their service! I came from a family of home made food, so I do know good food and I'm also rather picky. I was never displeased with a meal. I also don't tend to try new things, and sure enough, because I was so pleasantly surprised, I ventured on the menu! We had the platinum suite and again, amazing! There's a comment on here about the standard suite being too small to move in, but a majority of our party had that suite and never had any complaints. When I saw those suites, I didn't see any problem with them either. The views are amazing in each suite I saw, which was all except the presidential. The maid service is great as well! Very respectful and polite. We enjoyed the pool in the morning or at night as because of the sun, naturally it does heat up. However, the water is still refreshing regardless. The swim up pool bar does offer shade and friendly service! Mainly we enjoyed the beach area though! We are both huge beach and salt water fans. One of my biggest requirements for this entire vacation was a beautiful beach area. Again, you never know based on website pictures. I fell in love the moment I stepped close! The beach area they have is STUNNING! Beautiful, clean and refreshing water! Plenty of area to relax in at whatever your comfort level! There are lounge chairs with huts and canopy beds that are yours to use as long as they're available. We never had a problem getting enough to fit our group, and as I said we were a large group. The service from the staff at Cafe del Mar is unbelievably amazing! Those guys hustle! And they do it with pleasure and a genuine friendliness! This was also our favorite place for lunch and dinner! The island itself was full of beauty and culture! The nightlife was a blast! I highly recommend putting around in a golf cart as they're a blast. However, based on where this hotel is located, there is plenty to see by foot! For our wedding we worked very closely, and at great length, with Elba and Alejandra through the months prior to our big day! These two women are nothing short of amazing!!!!!!! Seriously! I could not have had any better of an experience and these two are a HUGE part of that!!!! I am forever grateful for all they helped us with and walked us through!!!! They were on top of every question I had, clarified anything and everything, and made me feel so comfortable about we were in contract for. (I stress this because I had already half planned our event at a DIFFERENT resort before the story and contract started changing drastically from the original. Obviously, not a good thing...). That being said, when I contacted Privileges, I had already been weary of this whole destination wedding thing and a bit rushed because of the time list in the first place. They were very responsive to my concerns and my requirements. I am extremely picky when it comes to service having a service background and they have my full respect! Amazing!!!! I could not have asked for a better day, thank you ladies!!!!! This entire trip for us was AMAZING! EACH member of the staff here are extremely nice and helpful. The food is fantastic. The drinks are great! The atmosphere is very welcoming! And the views, location and scenery is STUNNING!!!! I wish I had more time before we left to thank each and every one of staff again for everything they are that made this trip absolutely amazing for us!!!! I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel as not only a must for your vacation stay but also fabulous for a destination wedding!!!!! We have done two, one week stays at Privilege Aluxes and will be back for three. Both times we had the outdoor private pool--in November it was too cold to use, in July it was fantastic! The staff is incredible and the rooms are so gorgeous and well equipped. During our second stay the hotel was fully booked and it never felt crowded by the pool. We have done the breakfast only option, not all inclusive, both times because there is WAY too much good food within walking distance. I can't wait to go back! read more

Just back from six days and can't say enough about what a good time we had at this resort. From check in to check out staff was just wonderful. Food was excellent, but not quite the variety of the bigger resorts. Views from the rooms was unbelievable. While at the beach we watched million dollar yachts cruise by to anchor just around the corner. The water is crystal clear. Scuba dive right in front of resort. Pool was a little bit warm for my taste. You will see people on other sites complain about the "road" between the resort and the beach, it is actually a golf cart path. You have got to rent a golf cart for a day for the island tour. We will definitely go back. read more

We recently returned from an eight day stay at Privilege Aluxes. Unfortunately, we missed the first day of our vacation due to a flight cancellation in San Francisco, but the hotel was very gracious when we arrived the next day, and allowed us to check in earlier than the 3:00 check in time. We walked from the ferry terminal to the hotel, our luggage in tow. It's an easy 7-8 minute walk, but the heat and humidity were a little oppressive. We're wishing now that we had rented one of the bike couriers at the ferry terminal to carry our luggage. We were greeted with a glass of champagne, then given a short tour before being shown to our room, a suite on the second (referred there as the first) floor. The suite was quite large and well equipped. It appeared to be recently renovated, and had a wonderful terrace overlooking the pool area. The sliding door to the terrace didn't have a handle on the terrace side, so it was necessary to keep it propped open to get back in the room. The bedroom overlooked the cemetery next door, but we found that rather charming as Mexican cemeteries are quite ornate. And, it was quiet. There was a large safe in the closet area as well. The bathroom was very spacious, with a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower. The toilet area was set aside, behind a three quarter wall. The kitchen was small, but adequate. We were on the all inclusive plan, which was good as the kitchen didn't have any utensils or pots and pans. There was a small fridge stocked with beer, soft drinks, water, and a few snacks. It was stocked daily, and was part of the all inclusive plan, so we were free to partake as we pleased. The living area was also spacious, with a comfortable couch and a TV. Most of the channels were in Spanish, but a few showed reruns of American shows, with Spanish subtitles. It turned out not to be a big deal, as we didn't go on vacation to watch TV. There was also a DVD player that we didn't use. The air conditioning was wonderful. We left it set where it was when we walked in, and it was always incredibly comfortable. We did find the that room smelled a little musty, but it is a humid climate right on the beach, so that's probably unavoidable. The pool was adequate, not huge or ornate, but fine for a property this size. There were plenty of lounge chairs and a few lounging beds, and a swim up bar. We didn't use the bar, and were only served once in the lounge area, as most people swim or walk up to the bar for service. The beach is across a narrow road, essentially the width of an alley. It's a dead end, and used primarily by golf carts. There is a restaurant and bar on the beach, as well as lounge chairs and palapas, and a few lounging beds. The waiters there were very attentive, bringing food and drinks while walking quickly through the sand. The water is clear and warm, and even during peak hours, was never overcrowded. The few beach vendors there were, stayed below the lounge area for the hotel, so you were never bothered while lounging. The property itself is right at the end of the main road, where it makes a sharp curve. It was wonderful to walk off property right into the heart of the town. The main shopping and restaurant area, a pedestrian only street, is a block up. However, there are private security guards watching the hotel at all times, and anyone without a wristband from the hotel is escorted off. The island, and the the downtown area by the hotel are wonderful. I walked through the pedestrian area to the main square, up to the ferry terminal and back to the hotel almost every night. Never once did I feel unsafe. I watched a basketball game in the square, watched kids playing nearby, and was passed by some kind of parade commemorating the Virgin Mary. We rented a golf cart one day and explored the entire island. I sent away for a detailed map of the island before we arrived, which included a golf cart tour, which we followed. We found a place to snorkel, went to the turtle sanctuary, saw baby turtles emerge from the sand, and had a wonderful lunch at a beach club on the other side of the island. The map also included a few walking tours, which allowed us to find a tortilla factory that sold a stack of about 25 fresh tortillas for fifty cents, and a smaller handicrafts market off the beaten path with homemade merchandise at reasonable prices. There are three restaurants on the property, the one on the beach, a Thai restaurant that we didn't try, and one that has a breakfast and dinner buffet and lunch menu. We mostly ate there, and had the same waiter, Omar, most of the time. He provided us with great service, remembering our room number and our favorite drinks. The front desk staff was very helpful, as was the staff at the spa. We got the best massages and facials we've perhaps ever had, and there was no attempt to sell us products after as we've encountered in other locations. Overall, this is a wonderful, relaxing hotel, in a beautiful location. read more

Was here a couple years ago, so I'm not sure this review is valid, but will leave regardless :) This place was awesome. Definitely not your standard gated resort (like on the hotel strip in Cancun), as it's adjacent to the village area of Isla Mujeres. I personally loved this about the property. I could leave the hotel and walk around, experience some local flare, lots of cool bars and restaurants, then return to the hotel and my private balcony to spend the night. Was nice to not feel trapped. Clean and modern facility. Nice looking / up-to-date interiors. Good service. Decent food and drinks (not the best, but GOOD for an all-inclusive). Highly recommend it.
