Finding nice French food in the middle of London might seem an odd combination, but we weren't in a mood to go running across the channel for proper French cuisine. I wanted to try this because if it's proximity to the West End theater locations. Initially arriving at 5:45 PM without a reservation, the only tables available with the outside café tables. Thinking quickly, I while at the outside table perusing the menu. I brought up the restaurant website and noticed there was a reservation available within 15 minutes of the time we arrived so I went ahead and tried booking it. After mentioning it to our server and checking with the manager, they graciously reseated us inside at our new comfortable table. I think some of the selections have been simplified in order to moderate cost of each item. For example, the escargot is served sans shells. The duck over moose is tasty, but not as rich as a true pate. The braised calves liver was excellent as was the duck breast salad, dauphinois potatoes and haricot vert green beans with almonds. A classic tarte tatin, and a raspberry crème brûlée capped off a wonderful impromptu meal. I'm glad for the service accommodation, so do note. It's best to make reservations before planning to come here to ensure availability as it is a quite popular place because of its pricing. The prix fixe menu has about 75% of the full à la carte menu. But they always give you the option of adding anything you would like as an à la carte item so never feel like you are limited to one or the other menus. read more

We were able to get a table about 6:30 pm on a Friday. The place was busy but the service was efficient and excellent. I ordered the Escargot Appetizer and the Braised Lamb roulade for main course. My partner had the Duck Rillettes appetizer and the Seabass fillets for main course. All was excellent! read more

Ambience... I'll give it a 3.5. Food... 4. Service... 4. Overall - 4 I flew in from California and was staying in Soho and needed something near my hotel for dinner. That district is crazy and there are people everywhere. I picked this place because they had places to sit. Which is usually NOT a good indicator. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the steak and my salad. The wine I ordered was fine. The service is actually quite good but I dinged them a point because when I asked to be seated I said "dinner for one" and she said "only one?". Um, way to make me feel good, lady! LOL. She is French so she probably couldn't help it. Anyway it felt like a true French brasserie. The food is good - not great. I couldn't eat the chicken croquettes that came with the salad as they were gummy and nasty. Steak was delicious although I asked for medium and it came mooing. I personally don't mind that, I just say medium because I never know what to say, but if you're picky that is going to annoy you as based on my experience and other reviews they just cook the steak however the heck they want to cook the steak.The entrée salad was good but the salad that came with a steak was rusted and just OK. Really enjoyed this place. We were on our way to a session in Ronnie Scott's around the corner and fetched up here, with locally based family, for the pre-theatre menu. What a find! Great bistro buzz about the place too. Service was brisk which was just as well as we were under time pressure but would have happily hung out all night and through several bottles of PG to boot. The food was excellent and portion sizes just so. I had a monkfish starter which was very good. I can't believe there is not a Yelp page for this restaurant.. it was AMAZING! Byfar the best meal I've had in London yet. If you go before 7pm they have a two course prix fixe menu for under £10... get there after 7pm and the menu price nearly doubles. We had the two course prix fixe menu and it is a total steal. I had steamed mussels with a garlic sauce for my first course and then a warm salad with a baked cheese (can't remember the name sorry) with a champagne dressing. Both entrees were huge and each tasted fantastic. Their house red was robust and full of flavor.. I almost wanted to buy a bottle and take it home, it was that good. The decor was typical for a French Bistro... candles on each table, dark red walls with French art, ect.. Our waiter was super friendly and easy to talk to. Better Half and I dined here two nights ago. As we arrived after 6:30, prix fixe meals were limited. On the menu were a ribeye a la carte meal and a streak entrecôte prix fixe dinner for the same price. We asked what the difference was in meat cuts was. She explained that the ribeye was a thicker, fattier, superior cut, but that French customers liked the entrecôte. BH ordered the entrecôte and I ordered the ribeye, rare (my preference is medium rare, but my experience had been that the British overcook steaks - and everything else). The entrecôte was rarer, though not ordered as such, fatttier, and tastier. The ribeye was cooked medium, at least, had more gristle than fat, and was covered an a salty "brown" gravy. I didn't even finish the meal out of fear my blood pressure would spike from the salt intake. We're staying almost across from the restaurant but won't be back. If I'm craving a salt lick, I'll get one from a feed store and save some money. read more

A proper brasserie in the heart of Soho, with the whole outdoorsy dining European vibe - felt very French indeed :) No idea what any bad reviews are about - one person's bad review shouldn't put you off coming here. It certainly wasn't our experience. - Very unpretentious, yet a still warm and intimate atmosphere. - Friendly, attentive wait staff - Great location for pre-theatre dining - Very good sized menu - quite varied with many tasty looking options, but not too huge to cause a problem The main event: the food. Boy-oh-boy - we simply did not expect this level of quality. Truly outstanding grub. - Great flavour combinations - the fois gras, apple and nut crunch in particular was superb. - The attention to detail on the plates was amazing - beautifully presented dishes. - The cooking itself was excellent - meat nice and pink in the centre, the egg still runny etc :) Lastly, the price was very very reasonable for what we had - £25 a head for 3 courses. Really confused. I mean, this is a great little French Brasserie, generous amount and good quality food for a very reasonable lunch price. Nice decor, good service. But my confusion stems from the feeling that my other favorite French bistro, literally just up the street, Pierre Victoire, is almost exactly the same. The menu has slight variations.. the art on the wall is different... but the overall food, down to the way the burger comes on a wooden platter with thick wedge cut potatoes, the starter of spring rolls or falafel.. the generous glass of wine... c'est completement pareil! Is one parroting the other? Do they have the same owner, are they feuding brothers? Anyway, maybe that similarity and competition is what's keeping their price down, to our advantage. I honestly don't know what other reviews were banging on about but yelp led us here and unfortunately this time it did not pan out. We arrived it looked like only one waitress one staff whom was running around like a headless chicken. We stood in the doorway waiting for several minutes to be noticed and seated. We were told immediately of all the dishes they did not have available anymore, which was pretty much my choices thrown out the window before I even took a bite. Honestly don't know why we didn't just leave at this point. The waitress explained about the 3 course £25 deal so we opted for that. We both chose the soup of the day for entree which was butternut squash, because frankly sans the unavailable dishes, the leftovers were pretty uninspiring choices. So soup it was. The soup was thin, tasteless and more watery than expected, almost like packet powder soup. We also chose char-grilled entrecote steak with homemade French fries, petit salad, garlic & herb butter and roast breast of duck with lentil cassoulet, dauphinoise potatoes, raisin and red wine jus for mains. Then sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and affogato (Italian Ice cream with dark chocolate shavings and a shot of espresso) for desserts. The steak still had the fat all around it which was hardened and not rendered, it was also medium rare when I asked for medium. The chips were plain and served with ketchup poured into a small dish with a spoon to serve it. The salad was a joke. The roast duck was inconsistent, one bit was over done and the other duck half was under done. Seriously...how did they manage to do that...! The food was very below average, more like French bistro dining out to snipe customers of a decent meal than deliver what they're paying for. It felt lazy and robotic, the waitress seemed in a rush to clear out each course for the next like an automatic assembly line. She kept glancing at the clock everytime we asked a simple question. They also added an automatic 12.5% service charge to the bill without mentioning a word to us. I later checked the menu on their website and it says "An optional 12.5% service charge will be added to your bill." OPTIONAL. We were given no option at all. How disgraceful. The service was poor and did not deserve any service charge. The waitress chucked it on dishonestly hoping we wouldn't notice because we were being rushed out. Pierre Victorie up the street and Prix Fixe are sister restaurants. I do not live in the UK and I know this fact. I ate at the Pierre Victorie in Edinburgh over a decade ago and really enjoyed the meal. One of the few restaurants in London that knows how to properly cook a burger. I asked for rare and that was exactly what I got. Most London burgers are way over cooked. I loved the way the fries were geometrically stacked together. The food at prix fixe was excellent but the service was terrible. This was our second visit to the restaurant after a great visit last year and my recommending it to friends and family. After this visit I won't be singing it's praises quite so much. We arrived around 7.30pm so after the fixed price menu had ended so we ordered from the more expensive a la carte options. I had the fois gras starter and pork belly main and it was simply fantastic. The reason for the low score is not the food but the service. It took over an hour for us to get starters and another 45 minutes before we got our mains. Several times we asked for some more bread as we were extremely hungry and saw tables who had arrived after us get served. There were no apologies from the waiting staff, no offer of a drink while we waited and not even so much as a "sorry there's been a delay in the kitchen it will be out soon" Several times we spotted the girl by the serving hatch send people to check on our food and could hear them discuss it from our table but no one ever came over to apologise for it. At the end of the meal they not only charged us for everything without any compensation or apology for the delay but they actually over changed us with adding extra drinks AND added on a £12.5% gratuity! We of course informed them we were not happy, made them remove the extra drinks and the gratuity and told them we were extremely unhappy at how long we had had to wait with people being served food before us and clearly having seen and heard the staff discussing that our food was late - their response was to tell us "our target is 2 hours, you only waited 1 hour for your entrees". It's easy to hit the target when the goal posts are wider than normal! As I said the food is good and the staff seemed to want to help but their hands seemed tied by rules and regulations that I would guess come from bad management who rely on tourists and don't worry about good customer service and treating people well so they come back. read more

And no I'm not just saying that because yes, it is a French restaurant in soho London (how bougie of me), but this place was AMAZING! Braised foie gras, seared scallops, duck confit, and all local free range, fresh, and organically grown. That's almost unheard of! I paid for a meal for three, and was a little less than 60 pounds. The set menu deal is pretty good, only 13-15 pounds per person. Arrived at 6:45 pm on a Wednesday evening, and it was fairly empty. However, after an hour, business quickly picked up. The service is pretty good, there were many servers, with several working our table. The food came quickly, and it was nice. My friend recommended this place, and it's definitely a place I wouldn't mind coming to back again. The atmosphere is pretty nice, romantic, even! There is a great food and wine selection; I had the Sea bass with king prawns and tenderstems, and my friend had the duck confit which were both delicious! I've walked past Prix Fixe dozens of times before (my friend lives above the place) but just stopped in for lunch for the first time over the weekend. We got a nice table out in the sun and had a delicious meal for a surprisingly affordable price. For something in the market of £9 apiece, we each had a two course meal. I had crab cakes (YUM) and a mushroom omelette with french fries. My friend tried the open-faced salt beef sandwich with mustard and gherkin and the chefs salad with grilled chicken and piles of other tasty bits and pieces. The service was excellent- the staff are very friendly and not at all what you might expect in the heart of Soho. In fact, my friend asked for an iced coffee, and though they did not offer it on their menu the waitress was happy to fulfil his request. Ahh, the joys of GOOD service and GOOD food! I highly recommend Prix Fixe to one and all. read more

This is another underrated little restaurant on Dean Street which is very similar to Pierre Victoire (almost identical in fact). Expect some decent French food reasonably priced and some good wine. I always recommend red meat at these sort of bistros. The lamb and the steaks are always well cooked with some delicious buttery sauces and calorie busting French fries. Don't expect to diet coming here! When I checked in on Yelp last time I got a complementary glass of Prosecco which I was very chuffed about. Turned up at here one Saturday night without a booking. Got a table for two with ease. Quiet, intimate seemig place. The staff were very friendly, quite welcoming, personable and easy going. Nice food and drink French/English fare averagely priced for the area. Ended up being the last people still eating and they just cashed up as we finished and at no point were we rushed. What a fantastic find....just searching for a good dinner in the madness of olympic season! We didn't book and arrived just after 8, the staff were fantastic and a free table was found by the door perfect for people watching. We both went for the fixed menu I had the deep fried squid to start and a blue entrecote steak both perfect and so nice to not have an overdone blue steak. My partner had the goats cheese and tomato soup followed by the entrecote steak. All washed down with an ice cold bottle of house rose and change out of £70.00.
