PT was great but you can't get past the front desk. My son was hit by a car at home while I was in my PT appt. I got the phone call and immediately got up to leave but was told by the front desk I needed to pay for my appt, zero sympathy or concern. I paid politely just needing to get out of there asap. Today I showed up 12min late to my appt and the PT assistant wouldn't see me. I asked if I could be refunded for last appt because of what happened to my son and me needing to leave after 10min of being seen. The man at the front desk could have cared less about any of this and just gave me a number to call. People are human and there is no room for it at PRN, they are rigid and have zero grace. I've also overheard the front desk talking about people they are annoyed with there. Also, there is zero free parking. The whole thing is just a big pain in the butt if you are required to be seen by PT more than once a week. It's a shame for the main PT there because he seemed very knowledgeable and hard working. read more

My orthopedists gave me a referral to go here. Don't bother. They don't answer the phone or return messages. Called on a Monday to schedule an appointment left a message. Did not receive a callback. Called again on Wednesday after numerous attempts finally got through, was immediately put on hold for more than 10 minutes. Needed to reschedule, called on a Monday numerous times and could not get through. Left a message, it's Tuesday, considering I did not get a callback before I'm doubtful I will get one this time. I received a referral for PRN from my PCP. Called their office and received an appointment offering within a day. I went in for an existing issue I had gone to Spine & Sport for already but had fallen off from. My neck was injured during neck-massaging by Tamara, Physical Therapist of PRN Hillcrest on 07/ 29/2021. All of a sudden, my left side of the neck was extremely painful and at the same time, my whole left leg became numbness and tinglingly, which traveled down to the bottom of the left foot. Tamara understood clearly the happenings and asked me to report to my physician this symptom. My physician's notes certified my neck was injured and required me to stop neck-massaging to avoid additional injury. My MRI Cervical Report on 09/07/2021 also certified my severe injured neck and the Spine Surgeon told me on 11/10/2021 the numbness and tingling of my left leg and foot were caused by neck injury. If not cured, my left foot might not walk. Moreover, on 07/29/2021, there were witnesses of my accident on spot. Therefore, it is beyond doubt that Tamara is responsible for my neck injury. I have suffered a lot both physically and mentally ever since my neck injury. From being healthy to a disabled, I feel depressed. Brandon Irons, director of Physical Therapy at PRN in this Hillcrest location, runs an excellent physical therapy operation! The other physical therapists are also dedicated to getting results and it shows. I worked with Kate, Lilly, Carrie, and Daisy also and they all brought some special angle to the experience. The whole studio is intimate, professional and friendly. Even when they are busy, you will receive excellent one-on-one therapy and they take a genuine interest in your progress. Each therapist contributes something different to your experience. For example, Carrie was really good about reminding me of good form when doing the exercises. Rosie at the reception is warm and happy to help you with scheduling. I can highly recommend getting your physical therapy here. I am a doctor and I was impressed by the results I achieved after 15 weeks of therapy for my rotator cuff surgery. My only criticism concerns the parking garage. It is tight and often crowded so it is best to allow some extra time for that in order to arrive at your appointment on time. I would have begun my treatment with them but the front desk employees are not competent at all. They made it frustrating for me to even schedule and tounderstand how much I'd be paying through insurance benefits. It seems like there was a miscommunication between them and they unprofessional. My strong recommendation is DO NOT do physical therapy here. I have been to a lot of locations and the physical therapist was BAD. I came here early in 2021, where physical therapists forced movement which serves pain that night including able to sleep. The physical therapist as well said I had no tears in the joint. This was the opposite of my own testing (I been trained by very well known orthopedic surgeons to evaluate knee and shoulders due to coaching) and my orthopedic surgeon diagnosis which she was aware off I changed Physical therapy locations ASAP but end up having surgery. The post-op report (after surgery report) shows tears in 2 different locations of the joint and loose cartilage float in the joint. Basically, the physical therapist here was completely wrong. read more

I just completed 7 sessions at the 2650 Camino Del Rio North location. I had been referred due to a painful meniscus tear in my right knee, and I was hoping to avoid arthroscopic surgery. I was asked to rate my pain on a scale of 1 to 10 at the beginning, and I remember saying "7". Now I am definitely a "1" and sometimes even less! I am very stingy with my ratings on Yelp, but I can't praise Niels enough. He is friendly, professional, knowledgeable and enjoys interacting with patients, giving as much information/demonstration as is wanted. Bottom line: NO SURGERY! read more

This place is heads and tails above other PT places I've been to! Quite modern, lots of staff and varied modalities. Tracy is a very personable PT director and I'm happy to have her as my therapist. She has taught me a lot. Caring and compassionate too. All of her assistants are very sharp and keep things moving whilst multi tasking several patients at a time. I like that Tracy gave me exercises to do at home too. Now I just have to be more consistent in doing them! They also work with your insurance to get you more treatments if needed. I like this place. Only downside is the underground parking....ugh, what a nightmare! Sometimes a long line to get out of there, so be prepared. Make sure you get your ticket stamped and then it's only $3 to park. read more

Pretty much a typical physical therapy facility but a little on the smaller size. Services are full scale and the therapists are more attentive than the larger places. I've never had to wait long for my appointments to start. Parking is convenient at the adjacent garage for a discounted rate - $2 with validation. There's only one thing that seems to be an unfortunate trend with this facility: No one really closes the session. The therapist usually hands the patient off to the tech for the final treatment but since the tech is taking care of several patients it's very impersonal when it's time to leave. There's usually an awkward moment when you figure out all of your services have been completed because no one comes back to you. No one is really still close enough to you to ask if the session is completed. On more than one occasion I just gathered my things and walked across the facility to make sure we were done. No one ever says goodbye, see you later, etc. read more

I had dealt with another PT office previously and did not have a good experience at all. Luckily (for me) I tried out this office on a whim because it was closer to my house. What a difference!! They have been nothing but professional and Tracy has been an absolute godsend for my pain management and relief. She listens carefully and keeps good records of my progress, as well as giving me homework and guidance for continuing care on my own. I'm amazed how many people Tracy and her assistants can juggle without leaving anyone to their own devices. This is a wonderful facility, I would recommend it to anyone in need of some PT! This is what physical therapy is SUPPOSED to be! The parking garage isn't really a big deal. Just be sure to validate in the office or you will pay more. Living nearby, I know what a hassle it would be to visit if the parking garage didn't exist! I appreciate having the parking available in such a busy area of town. Pro tip: don't go up the notorious incline until the path is clear to go all the way up to the ticket booth (you'll see what I mean when you get there). read more

Money grubbers. Ineffective treatment. Not bad enough that they misdiagnosed the source of my pain, provided me with "treatment" that was therefore useless, and had me pay to do exercises that were both unnecessary and not conducive to healing, they also provided what I think was an intentionally inaccurate estimate of how much I owed (net of insurance) when I asked how much it was costing me. Prior to leaving, the estimate of what I owed was $100. Realizing that their "therapy" was providing no benefit, I stopped going immediately after receiving that estimate. One month later, they presented me with a bill for over $1,300 (again, AFTER insurance) for the exact same services that they had previously estimated at $100. They subsequently adamantly refused to even discuss a settlement and sent the bill to collection with an agency located in another state which was receptive to a settlement until PRN told them absolutely not. During treatment, I was shuffled from therapist to therapist at their convenience, repeatedly made to keep waiting past my scheduled start time and instructed to do useless "warm up" exercises to kill time which exercises were actually harmful to my overall condition. Most of the time, I was attended to by assistants rather than therapists. In terms of cleanliness and sanitation, they are marginal. Incompetent money-grubbers IMHO. read more

Very busy physical therapy place. Unfortunately, I'm not a big believer that PT works in the long run. In the short run, it does help to get some relief. The staff is nice and listens to me very well. I'm dealing with a rotator cuff / bicep injury, and despite their best efforts, I'm not getting any better. Maybe it is because their freaking parking structure stresses me out! It takes 15 minutes to get out of the joint...and at some point 'stuck' at such an incline that even with an automatic transmission, I worry about rolling back and hitting the car right behind me. This isn't PRN's fault of course, but if I continue with PT...I may need to move to the other office in La Jolla. read more

I was referred by my doctor. I was very disappointed in this place. I explained my problems and told the PT what my goals were. She pretty much ignored what I said. I was sore for 3 days after one session and could do her home exercises for only 5 minutes before I was out of breath. I had wanted to work on my balance and stamina, not calisthenics. I got a phone call from them a week later telling me I had missed an appointment. They had the date wrong--it was for the following week. I cancelled that appointment and haven't been back. Then they sent me a bill for $20 but I'm covered by insurance. The only good thing is--it's in a convenient location. read more

My experience was a NIGHTMARE!! Their billing department is terrible! First they said I was in network (which I was. my general Dr. referred me) then they said I was not, my insurance insisted I was. Trying to figure it out resulted in series of phone calls back and forth equaling at least 3 hours lost on the phone. The actual therapists were nice and I mistakenly assumed everything was settled so I stayed to complete my treatments. I paid for each session before it was preformed. Then about 4 weeks after my sessions they sent me a bill for $200 more! This is insanity! Where can you charge for something, then later determine it actually cost almost double! My orthopaedic/spine surgeon sent me to PRN to strengthen my core. At the time the pain level was a 10 and I couldn't turn over in bed nor stand up without intolerable pain due to an accident. The PRN I went to was in Hillcrest across from Scripps Mercy Hospital. I was approved six sessions. Tamara was my PT and by the second session, I was able to turn over with little pain. I'd say it was down to a 5 from a 10. I meticulously followed the exercises at home and by the 4th session, I was almost back to normal. I have one session left and I'm another person thanks to PRN and Tamara. I was never pushed to do something where there was too much pain. I felt comfortable with her. On one occasion I had another therapist and she too was very good. I had lived with pain for so long, I can't thank Tamara enough for having helped me. The exercises are so good and simple, I will continue to do them after I'm through with PRN. read more

This is a review for PRN La Jolla. The place is the best. Rehabbed me back from an Achilles tear. I chose non surgical route, and am impressed with the results with early functional rehab. Paul is my therapist and he is amazing. I've met with him weekly for a year and the progress is tremendous. Staff are awesome, Vanessa and Shawnee are always super nice, welcoming, and responsive. FRAUD ALERT! Please read before you go here. I found the level of care and the quality of the therapists to be excellent, BUT be aware of their business practices, which are the most deceptive and fraudulent I've ever experienced with a provider. My insurance mandated 4 visits in order to get approval for an MRI. On each of the 4 times, I paid the full amount of the office visit upfront, even though I had asked them whether I hadn't already satisfied my deductible. It was only after I got my EOB from my insurance (which btw is a really solid PPO) that I learned that I was right. Thus began what is now a four month and counting effort to get reimbursed. I have called PRN's parent company (and be aware there is not only a corporate parent, it's not in California), Eggleton-Langton. I was assured - as was the Blue Cross customer rep on the conference call each time - that the reimbursement was in process. Each time, they assured it would take 6-8 weeks. Each subsequent call was 9 weeks after the previous call when - SPOILER ALERT - no check arrived. Here are some examples of the runaround: "Our accounting department is in another state". "We have to send the payment request directly to PRN for them to issue the check". Please call _______, our customer service rep, who is on the account" (get ready for this one: 5 days after being given that name, Blue Cross called back to learn that this person did not work at the company. FIVE. DAYS. AFTER THE COMPANY GAVE BLUE CROSS THE NAME AND NUMBER". Last date of service was April 7, 2014. I am writing this on August 25, 2014. Three days ago (after escalating to a grievance with the State of California), I received a check. It's not the full amount. I seriously doubt I am the first person who has had this experience with this provider. I will not be the last. I am sure they figure after several months, one's desire for the few hundred dollars due will diminish. This is a major deception. AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE. San Diego is the land of physical therapists, you will find a much more honorable one who is just as good. This isn't the fault of the therapists, but it is clearly a practice dictated by the corporation to defraud patients. read more

I have premier PPO, my primary UCSD referred me to 3 different places to check out. Since this location is closest to me, I thought I would check them out. Place was small and I felt I was at a used car lot. I have gone to other physical therapy places that were small and good. Good meaning I know what to look for and what their MO is. Anyhow, they charged me $125 out of pocket and said the rest would be covered by my insurance. Anyhow, I am getting a bill for $25, not sure if they have the brains to send a bill to my insurance. I only went to them once for my initial consult and so thankful that I didn't go for the rest of my appts. They are getting a bad review because well I have been to physical therapy before and know what to look for. I am 45, SD native and I have no friends and family working for a competing physical therapy practice. I would steer clear of this place. read more

Great physical therapists and staff. My only complaint is their handling of insurance. I was told to pay a certain amount for each session, then months after physical therapy was completed I began getting bills for parts of treatment that weren't covered by insurance. These are things that I spent 5 minutes doing, that were optional, that I was getting billed ~$40 for each occurrence. To add to the billing confusion their billing isn't handled in-house. I got the bill from a PRN phsyical therapy location in Los Angeles with a generic PO box as the address, which keeps me from contacting my local PRN for assistance with the bill. I can't even validate that the bill I am getting is legitimate because the PO box isn't listed anywhere online. In order to talk to the PRN billing department you have to wait on hold for 10-30 minutes only for someone to tell you that the bill is the bill, and you have to pay it. This is all very frustrating, I haven't had this experience at the two other PT locations I've been to in San Diego. read more

I was very happy to find Reese at the Encinitas location. I've been to a few PT offices over the years and this one is by far the best. Reese is a great listener, a consummate pro, and really knows his craft. I asked him lots of questions and he was very patient and thorough with his explanations.
