I used Don Struebling at Pro Built Transmissions to replace the transmission in my 2012 Dodge Challenger R/T. The transmission failed not long after being reinstalled by a Dodge dealer following an engine oil seal repair, and unfortunately Dodge wouldn't cover the problem. That experience was enough to send me looking elsewhere -- and I'm glad I did. My R/T uses a Mercedes-built automatic transmission, and new or rebuilt units were hard to find. Don went above and beyond to locate a low-mileage (30,000-mile) replacement from a wrecked Challenger of the same model. I recently bought my '07 Suburban 2500 used with a supposedly rebuilt transmission. The transmission seemed to work okay, most of the time. But, it would kick off the check engine light and misbehave occasionally. Nobody else really wanted to deal with it. Don knew right away that it was probably in fact rebuilt but just done by amateurs that didn't realize how exacting you need to be with the reassembly of the 4L80E. (Once he got into it this was confirmed. They give it a good try, but no dice...) I bought this rig to tow my travel trailer long distances with my whole family. I don't want any problems. So, I bit the bullet and had Don rebuild the tranny. Well it works perfectly now. No issues, no lights, zero problems. I might add it has been over 6 months now since the work was done and still zero issues. Pro-Built Transmissions is not the cheapest. But they my well be the very best in transmission repair. My advice, if you're like me you don't want to drop 50-80k on a new rig. You want to keep your old rigs running like new. My advice, don't go cheap on your tranny rebuild. It'll probably cost you more in the long run! BTW- I had Don throw on a sweet optional tranny cooler at the same time for towing, he just charged for the parts since he was pulling the tranny anyway. On a Sunday Highway 80, 6 miles east of Dixon, and my truck transmission stops functioning. While waiting on the side of the road for the tow truck, I started searching for shops in Dixon, Davis, and ultimately Sacramento. I own a small shop, also in West Sacramento, and do not do most transmission repairs. I send my clients to Don at Pro Built Transmissions because I know he has the skills to fix these transmissions right. A lot of places will suggest replacement of the transmission if there is no movement or if it is slipping. Not all transmissions have to be replaced and Don can tell if it needs an overhaul, or just a solenoid or band adjustment. If you have any transmission issue, give Don a call. Don took a bad situation and turned it into a pleasant experience. It isn't often that I'm happy to shell out a good chunk of change like the amount that is necessary in having your transmission replaced. But that's what needed to happen. AAMCO was trying to gauge with the $2,800 price they quoted. So I looked around and found Don through Yelp and he told it to me straight and provided a fair and reasonable price that was roughly half of what AAMCO quoted. I also came to quickly realize, the reason the price was cheaper, was because Don was more capable too. Nobody wants the unfortunate situation of having their transmission replaced or having to deal with the price tag that goes along with it. Kind of like having a toothache without any dental insurance. However, Don took care of me as if he had a doctorate in transmissions along with a good bedside manner. My only regret is not having brought the vehicle directly to Don in the first place. If I ever have a transmission problem again, and I pray I don't, I'll only let Don work on the vehicle. read more
