From hearing insults about you your family (and others), or a simple disregard for your existence by other customers who are regulars (calling clear waaaaays to early because they took 5mins to shoot 3arrows and they want to pick up when tier A line). Archery is a nice change of activities for the neighborhood. A few years ago I came here with a friend and coming back to show another friend it was just as I remembered. The staff is great, super helpful and patient. The atmosphere is laid back. Once everyone shooting is done there is a quick verbal confirmation every round. Surprisingly that's organized, considering it is not staff saying it but the last person to shoot. Man are there professionals! Serious skills on the shooters on the right. Just left this place and wow, A+ customer service all the way. The attending lady (I'm sorry I suck with names!) was so patient with us and a SUPER knowledgeable teacher as well. After her brief lessons, we were all hitting the target board with no issues. She also keeps an eye on you to ensure you're not slacking off with what she taught you. She really knows her stuff! Very safe environment. Prices are super reasonable and it comes with all the equipment for an hour. Parking is street only, metered and you got an hour so be prepared to run up and down to add time. We have been to a few archery ranges in Queens, but this range is by far, the best one! We will only be coming to Proline. My husband was bow shopping and range hopping. We found a great bow here and with a purchase, we received 2 black chips for 2 free times to shoot from open to closing. The people who work here are super helpful and caring, and especially knowledgable. They are passionate and from my observations, everyone is friendly and they're like a little family. They give pointers here and there. The owner is cool. They are laid back. Prices are decent. If you have your own bow, it's $20 for the entire day to shoot. You can also rent and shoot for 2 hours, $20. There are snacks and coffee for purchase on the side. I just go to be my husbands' cheerleader. Kids have fun, adults have fun. You just have to make sure they are not having a tournament, otherwise, you won't be able to shoot. I recommended this place to my BFF also, and they had a great time. Something different, something new. I had a good time learning how to shoot a bow and arrow. They provide you with equipment, a briefing on safety and how to shoot. Although lessons are one on one there's so much going on around you that it seems about a minute long if that. It's a $20 rental for a long bow, forearm guard, finger guard, four arrows, and two hours of shooting time. There's two ranges; short and long distance. Being that we were beginners we used the short distance. The one thing I disliked about this place is that it's awfully small and gets crowded easily. My aim was off due to this. Everyone was bunched up together trying to shoot their target. Even with the bullseye in the bow didn't help. Once some of the students disappeared I was able to stand directly in front of target and my aim was spot on. I was able to hit my target multiple times. Here's a tip do not pull the bow back too far. If you do it'll cause your arrow to hit another target. Also request the longer arm guard. I started off with the shorter one and ended up popping my forearm because I pulled the bow too far back. read more

If you're like me and some of the other Yelpers who gave this place five stars, you will slowly forget all it's shortcomings and genuinely feel the heart and soul of what archery is about - the very moment you compose yourself, let out a long breath opening your eyes, and release. A gentle smile when you see your arrow straight into the bullseye 18M away... I sort of knew I was a ringer when I signed up for this on meetup as I'm not a stranger to the bow and arrow. I wasn't a fan of walking up the stairs to this place. Their bathroom reminded me of public school bathrooms or ones with which janitorial services use as it is not a sink you normally wash your hands in - it is a slop sink. Nevertheless when the class got started, we were handed forearm guards, finger guards, and a 20lb pull long bow. The last time I was holding a long bow, it was 50lb and as my friend's uncle said - that's the nominal pull. I roll with it though - I don't really want to ask for special treatment since I was rockclimbing the day before, my arms were already quite sore. All the intructors are top notch and super friendly and two of the staff members compete, one training for the olympics. They were switching out some of the bows of my companions as they admit, either some require a bit of constant repair or if some other bow suited the shooter more (ie. a left handed or right handed bow). The reticle on my bow also kept sliding down a little bit, but it was easy to readjust and tighten. read more

This is my husband and I's event every weekend now! The price for shooting your own bow is only $10 for one to two hours. The people are very friendly and they don't rush to provide your orders and questions about archery and bows. I just recently bought my beginner's bow from this place and I love it so much. Make sure you come at around 3pm on a Saturday though because a lot of people are already waiting to come in as soon as they open at 1. :) I recommend this Archery place for those who live in the city. I called Proline two weeks ago to make a reservation for a private group session for my wife's birthday and fortunately they had availability during the time we wanted. If you have groups of 8-10 or more (but up to 15) they will rent out their space to you after-hours. Fast forward to last night, when we had our private session. We arrived on the early side, and I was expecting the place to be empty for us but it was still packed with customers. I introduced myself to the staff to let them know we were there and they informed me that once our entire group arrived they would clear the place so we could get started. The customers there seemed to be having a great time and the overall vibe was upbeat, a good starting sign. When we got started they spent a good 10 minutes going over safety protocol while getting us geared up. And when we finally got to the shooting line, they spent some with all of us setting up our sights and watching our form, with a special focus on my wife to make sure she was comfortable and utilizing good form. This turned out to be a huge help because one of their instructors identified that despite her being a righty, she's left-eye dominant and so they switched her out to a lefty bow. After that she felt far more comfortable. After about 20 minutes of shooting, I noticed they loosened up and let us regulate ourselves (calling 'clear' to retrieve our arrows), assuming because everyone in our group was respectful of the safety protocols and while we were having fun, no one was being irresponsible. We quickly realized how challenging yet fun shooting can be and were thankful we had a cozy and comfortable place like Proline to have this great experience. Guy (whom I believe is the owner), his kids, and his staff were all really friendly and engaging with our group and despite it being late on a Saturday, were really loose and flexible with our scheduled time. We love sci-fi and horror stuff and I brought zombie targets (found on Amazon) for us to eventually shoot, which they kindly put up for us to shoot at, a fun alternative to standard targets. Overall our group agreed - Guy's Proline Archery was a great place to learn how to shoot and their friendly staff made it a nice place for us to be together and learn to shoot. I think they gained some new fans and customers! For the record, I have been servicing my bows at this place for 4 years. I have been trusting them until recently. I'll try to be as brief as possible. But I think everyone should learn the story. In March, I got my brand new bow, which is a PSE Beast. And as usual, I drove for an hour to get it set up. No grown up were there, only a young girl and another kid. What I wanted is very simple, set draw length to 31'', lower draw weight to 64 lbs, install the arrow rest, sight and D-ring. She told me her father wasn't there yet, but she can help me. So that's how the nightmare started. I was watching her the whole time. First, she tried to measured the draw weight without a D-ring. So she hook the measure directly to the string. When she was doing that, the hook slides on the string and had her lose control of the bow hitting my bow on something, leaving a chip on my bow riser. ( I tried to warp the riser with paracord to cover the chipped area) Then, the draw length. When I was trying sight-in later, I felt so strange and found out she set to 32.5'' instead of 31''. And I told her that she should set the pin to 'E' instead of 'B'. When I got home, I found out that she even didn't return me my attaching part for my quiver. But that wasn't over. The next time I tried to shoot the bow in the range (like a month later), the draw stop failed on me. The cam didn't stop when reached set-up draw length. So the arrow fell off the arrow-rest and shot my own left hand, and caused a bow dry fire. Glad my bow have 85% let-off, so the arrow didn't penetrate my hand, but it still went half way and left an ugly mark on my hand. (I'm not showing the picture of my bloody hand) Although confused, I took the bow back to Pro Line for repair. Joe handle it, and he told me some part was missing from the cam. I thought it was just a product failure by PSE. But later, I found the missing part, which was in my bow case. And it's clear, the whole incidence was because that the string stop wasn't properly tightened! I consider my self just being unlucky. But my friend insisted me at least say something. So I brought the bow back and told Joe the entire story. I told him that I don't want to blame anyone, but this can cause serious damage. He promised me he would talk the girl's father and give me a call. Now, it has been two weeks, I haven't got any contact yet. And I doubt there will be any as Joe didn't even ask me for contact info before I gave my number to him. I feel so disappointed. I have been trusting them for so long. Every time I need any work on my bow, I drive an hour to have it done there. I brought my friends there to purchase their bows. I even had my Bow Hunting Education with them. All I need is just an apology. But this avoiding consequence thing really hurt my feeling. And I consider it bad parenting since the girl will never learn the lesson. My honest advice: if you had you bow serviced there, you should have it double checked. Otherwise you may have a chance to get a bloody hand as I did. Such a shame. read more

Went for archery fun, it was great to learn. I would have given more stars except the lady employee teaching lacked some basic social decorum. An older man was very kind and helpful, but he apparently didn't work there and she scolded him for helping us like he was a child. VERY unprofessional. I've never posted a review of anything before, but felt compelled this time. The old man was really good about it, but I felt so bad for him. This place is kind of dingy. It looked like my elementary school when I first entered and walked up the stairs. The place looks a bit run down but it's probably due to the nature of the sport. Holes can be found on the ceilings and the walls of this place. Most likely due to the arrows shoot out of target. Archery is fun but it can be tiring - holding the bow arrow all day!! PROS: - good teacher - he taught us the rules and how to use the bow and arrow. He is very knowledgeable. Thumbs up for the asian guy that taught me! - They have AC. YAY!! Came here & got to try archery for the first time. Did my best. The staff is very good with first timers & gave me some guidance, though it definitely wasn't a lot of hand-holding. I managed to get some shots into the target & not be completely horrible at it. More experienced archers were also polite & didn't make you feel bad for not being good. Hours later he's still reeling over the experience. Although it's not the fanciest place, our instructor Ben was so thorough in his instruction, that you quickly forget that you're shooting in what looks like a stockroom. My son 13, and daughter 9, quickly got into the groove. We did get there at exactly at opening time, which proved to be the best thing. It got pretty busy about an hour into it. It does feel a little tight, since your shooting within 1 foot of the person next to you, which takes some getting used to. My friends and I came here to celebrate our friend's bday - gotta give her props for coming up with this unique activity! This is definitely a fun, off-the-beaten-path way to spend an afternoon, and at $20 for unlimited shooting, not a bad deal either. Since the guys who run this place do it on the side, they're pretty much only open weeknights and weekend afternoons. It's a very no-frills atmosphere, basically just a big room with targets on one side and equipment, seating and bathrooms on the other. It seemed that most of the other people there were avid shooters, many with their own bows and arrows. And man, did those bows look supremely badass! I was impressed with the variety in size and style. When we first arrived, we were a little intimidated and definitely stuck out like sore thumbs as newbies, but the regulars didn't pay much attention to us. Everyone was pretty focused on their own shooting...and focus is a good thing when there are 15+ people with deadly weapons in their hands! Guy, one of the co-owners who's a Long Island detective, joked that that's why he carries his handgun...you just never know! We were surprised when he handed us off to his young daughter, Valerie, to give us our tutorial. Even though she looks more like a gymnast than an archer, don't let her looks fool you! For one thing, she's older than she looks (something I can totally relate to). On top of that, she's very informative, knowledgeable...and badass! This was proven when she took her turn shooting some arrows. The bow was taller than her, but she totally commanded it! We were all in awe, as was Guy, who proudly compared her to Hit Girl from that Kick-Ass movie. We ended up spending five hours shooting, and had a great time chatting up Guy, Valerie and even befriending one of the kids whose dad had brought him. Unfortunately, there isn't much in the way of snacks, so if you intend on spending a few hours here, bring your own food (they let you eat at the tables). It's a really laid-back, welcoming place with nice people running it. So if you've ever wanted to try archery, this is the place to go! I came at 7:30pm on a Friday night (and fair warning, Tuesday and Thursday nights are not the time time to go 7pm onward because there's league shooting that shuts down the lanes for amateurs and enthusiasts) after an hour's hike in from the Upper East side on a particularly cold and blustery evening. Pro Line had come recommended from an estranged friend who geeks out as hard as I do about Hawkeye and had decided a while back to give archery a shot with his young daughter at Pro Line and had a great experience. I have Japanese martial arts background -- and even did some rudimentary kyudo a few years back -- but have always preferred the aesthetics of Western-style archery. So, taking my buddy Frank's recommendation to heart, arming myself with Google Map directions I prayed were accurate (with Queens' litany of avenues upon streets upon drives upon lanes of consecutive freaking numbers), I ventured forth. In the midst of closed shops and darkened alleys, there was a sign touting nondescript archery lanes above the door marked 95-11, and after a few tugs, the aging glass door gave in. Three flights up a dingy fluorescent staircase covered in gray rubber-studded flooring, lauded on the final landing by cardboard cutouts advertising deer urine, I pulled open an unmarked door and was welcomed by a bustling hole in the wall sporting all ages, from all walks of life, happily firing away from Swiss-army-knife-like, high-tech compound bows at sets of various sized targets plastered intimidatingly downrange. I looked around like a deer in the headlights, the community of regulars close knit enough that I likely stood out like a sore thumb. This did not stop me from being able to approach one of several gentleman at the counter and simply declare, "Hi, I'm sure it's obvious I'm new and have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm here to shoot things." With a Buddha-like calm, and sage nod, the instructor who would be my babysitter for the evening (I've forgotten his name sadly), signed me up, took my $20, and replied: "Just aim the pointy end away from me and the lights, and we'll get along just fine." Right after my arrival, a party of about 10 others came in, all new like me, all looking to occupy the abbreviated "novice" lanes that occupied the left half of the room. This did not stop our babysitter in the Assassin's Creed Shirt (ACS from now on for short) from calmly explaining the rudimentary facts of shooting arrows from the basic recursives we were renting from the facility, and after a quick briefing for safety, he helped assess and adjust our sights, and continued to give us pointers on our stances and draw techniques throughout the night at no trouble or irritation to him at all (and believe me, 11 of us were a handful, and ACS himself was also attempting to get some shooting time in himself). The lanes themselves are a total divorce from everything New York around them, from the almost meditative air to the paleolithic hunting-sport being practiced inside the facility, to the camouflage carpeting and hunting tips sold in glass cases at the counter, to the pot of communal, half-burnt coffee brewing constantly in the corner. It's an utter reverie, lovely slice of slowed time in the midst of an otherwise bustling city. I'm really happy I went. I will be going back, by myself, certainly, possibly with others. The large party that was there with me seemed to enjoy themselves as well, with an impromptu points competition breaking out towards the end with staggered point values for the rings of the target, -5 for cork or wood, -10 for someone else's target, and +20 for someone else's bulls-eye. It's not far from the A train, or the QM15 express bus. It's open 7 days a week. It's the cost of a trip to the movies for two hours of fun. Stop debating going and just go. read more

Pro Line Archery rocks. A group of us went, all as beginners, to do something different and try something new. After some inquiries between this archery location and "the other one" in Queens, I decided on Pro Line mostly because they were informative and nice on the phone, and cheaper. For $20, you get the equipment you need and can shoot all day. If you are beginners like we were, you get a quick orientation on the rules and a quick how to use your bow and arrow. One of the guys in charge, Guy - he's the one packing the gun on his side "in case any of you get out of hand" as he puts it - is really knowledgeable and really helpful. He's also got a funny, dry sense of humor, so chatting with him was also really fun. His daughter, "Hit Girl" (from Kick Ass fame) as we called her, also gives great shooting tips. Obviously they want you to do it right... they don't need any lawsuits "targeting" them. heh. So, if you've been wanting to give archery a try, this is definitely the place to go. It may seem intimidating at first when you walk in but, I assure you, once you start shooting, you'll ease right in. read more

I tried my first archery lessons/practice here. We did have some trouble finding a parking spot since it is street parking and or neighborhood parking only. I am not a fitness fan so it did take some time for me to walk up three (?) or so set of stairs. I went on a Tuesday night and I was the only person that did not have any prior experience and trust me, people can tell. I did not know how to do anything and even with the instructor helping, I had to have someone constantly direct me. Most of the people there had not only their own archery bows but also cool outfits? I was very embarrassed to be so bad at shooting and taking forever to aim. This was my issue and for most of the time no one minded. But knowing me, someone did have a problem and seemed annoyed I was doing it "wrong". Whatever, I guess I have to ignore the criticism. I did have a great companion who urged me on and told me he was worse his first time. It's definitely a quiet place where people are always concentrating. I say it's ultimately fun and cheap way to spend a few hours. My advice, don't be scared and take a friend with you. Don't listen to the mean folks complaining and just have fun. I usually shoot at Queens Archery, and wanted to give this one a try too. I will not be returning. I went with my n00b friends, as well as a friend who regularly shoots. We went on a Sat. afternoon, and had to wait 90 minutes for an intro lesson. The lesson barely gave any information, so my newbie friends were lost as far as form and basics, and therefore were unconfident and had a hard time shooting near their targets, and in fact, the instructor laughed at one friend when she kept missing the target rather than correcting her form. Some coaching from me and other patrons helped them. So, if you're going for the first time, you might want to bring along friends who have done archery before, as you may not get much guidance as far as how to do it. The real reason why I will not be returning to ProLine was SAFETY. There were kids everywhere, and one kid in particular was dry-firing bows, taking other people's arrows and bows (not just rentals, but very expensive competition bows), shooting three arrows at once, loading his bow behind safety lines, and shooting at other people's targets. He did this right in front of the instructor, who did not say anything. Not only was this distracting and annoying, but very dangerous. I'm all about everyone enjoying archery, but at its essence, a bow and arrow is a weapon. I do not want to shoot anywhere where the staff doesn't take safety as the utmost importance. Queens Archery is very strict with safety and etiquette, and I'm sure that many of the kids' behavior that I saw at Proline would not have been tolerated there. The reason I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 is that some of the regular patrons that I spoke with said it was a particularly busy day, and that Proline isn't always like that. read more

The people here are very friendly and honest. Despite it being a shooting range, I felt very safe. I went up to the guy behind the counter and told him that I never tried archery before and he assured me that "this is the best place to learn!" He was right! His daughter taught me how to hold the bow and shoot. She was very experienced and friendly. She stayed with me for almost an hour helping me improve my shots. Her grandpa was also there shooting and he gave me a couple of pointers too. With them both, I was able to pick up very quickly and shoot much better than I had expected. I came at around 1pm (on a Saturday) and it started to get crowded at 3pm. My friend came a little past 2pm and I was surprised to see that there really wasn't anyone to teach her for more than 5 minutes due to the new crowd of beginners. There are only 15 lanes and it's 1 person per lane unless you want to take turns shooting the target with a friend. There are all sorts of people here from beginners to skilled hunters. I was amazed by the different types of bows we each held. If you're a beginner, you won't have to shoot as far as the experts so you can work on perfecting your precision. I have been going to Pro Line for a few years now. My daughter fell in love with archery and after trying the place in Bayside, we felt this was a better fit for her. The instructor for the children's JOAD program on Saturday mornings, Guy, is so wonderful with the children. For children, it only costs $10 for equipment rental, range fee, and instruction. It's not private lessons but he keeps an eye on the shooters and gives pointers to those who need help. It's only $5 if the child has their own equipment. Other times, adults can shoot for $20 with equipment rental, range fee, and basic introductory lessons. No time limit except closing time. The regulars are so friendly and will offer help if needed. Once you've gone a few times, you become a regular too and then it's sort of like "Cheers" where everybody knows your name. Besides being a shooting range, they also sell anything you could possibly want for hunting or target shooting. The owners are so knowledgeable about the stuff. They aren't pushy about selling their merchandise, which is really nice. I eventually tried shooting and even joined the target league on Thursday nights. There is a bowhunting league on Tuesday nights. Beware that this place isn't fancy by any means. Be prepared to climb a few flights of stairs and then step into a "man cave." read more

I've been coming to Pro Line for about 6 months regularly now, and I have to say, I like it a lot more than I expected to when I came for the first time. It was just obscenely busy the day I first chose to go, and couldn't get a hold of anyone to talk about potentially purchasing a compound bow. I did get to rent/shoot a recurve for the first time which was cool (I sucked). Since then, I've purchased my own compound bow, and probably make it out here an average of 2x a week to shoot. The staff (Cowboy, Neal, Guy, Joe) are all extremely helpful when you have any questions, or need a form tip, or are considering purchasing an accessory, etc... They provide the type of customer service that you would want from a place that you may end up frequenting. If you're coming for the first-time, and want to rent/try out shooting, I'd suggest going on a Monday/Wednesday night, as it'll likely be less busy. Even on a packed night however, they still manage to run a tight ship and you'll definitely have a blast and get the chance to take plenty of shots. read more

I was a little intimidated at first, but they made me feel very comfortable. Everyone was very friendly, the lady that was giving us the mini lesson was very patient, and knowledgeable. This place reminds me of a Bowling Alley without balls and pins but instead bows and arrows. Can't believe I lived so close to this place and never knew it existed. I guess it's one of those cases where you don't find the things/places unless there's and interest and you look for it. This time i was interested in shooting a bow and arrow and lucky for me a really cool range was right in my backyard...hooray. I will be back soon. read more

I love this place. I first came here about 2-3 years ago to pick up a new hobby. When i went back recently with my brother and a couple friends, it was again a great experience. Although their website won't tell you that they're open to beginners and people interested in learning, this is a great place to learn! This is definitely a great place for pros though because they really know their stuff! They also do not mind if you purchase food and eat there n between shooting. The atmosphere was the same and the room is often full of pros that frequent the place with their own bow & arrows. The instructors are very patient and have a sharp eye to give you subtle advice that would improve your posture or aim. It is the first and still the only spot I would go to do archery. Tuesdays and Thursdays aren't often great days to go due to league-practices. I wish they were opened for longer hours on weekends! When you walk in, don't be shy! It may be a little intimidating because sometimes everyone turns and looks to see who enters, but don't worry these people are good people--- just walk up to the desk and tell them what you're there for. read more

That was ridiculously fun. It was such a long trip getting there all the way from Jersey City but I don't remember ever having this much fun at a sport. I never held a bow and arrow before so I was a little more than intimidated when I first came in. But the place is so laid back that you can't help but loosen up and have fun. Shooting with rentals (no time limit) is $20. Way cheaper than bowling and pool. Matt, the guy that instructed us was real cool. He hung around and talked to us and would give us pointers. After a few embarrasing shots, I got the hang of it and had so much fun. Also, feel free to bring food because they let you eat it at their tables. Pro Line Archery Lanes - First timer :D Finally something I'm good at - Archery Near Me - Ozone Park, New York

Very unique family owned archery range which sit on the third floor of a medical center, it took me a few minuets to find it my first time there. (commute from A train) There are only two archery ranges in NYC so it gets crowded, constantly. Since the pro shop covers rental, sells, and repair, and hunting license, they get swamped pretty much on the get go. Owner Guy Gerig (the person with a pistol and tremendous experience in archery) is usually there with 2 other employee but i still see him doing 50 things at once (fixing the equipment while checking the shipment while on the phone while handing out rentals while calmly explained to the range rules to others) and its usually THAT busy. Like others have said, 20 dollars will get you a rental bow (recurve with sight), 4 arrows in a quiver, a tab (finger guard), an arm guard ( prevent string lash, it hurts!) and a target, its all you can shoot, but first come first serve. I usually make it there around 1 or i would have to wait. The space is limited so they make do with what they have. Most of the left lanes are for beginners around 7-8 yards distance (12 targets) and 2 lanes on the right are slightly further around 9-10 yards (4 targets) and the middle lanes are 20 yards. Occasionally they will put up some targets closer to the shooting line for little kids. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, most of the regulars know each other and will gladly help the beginners. Teaching staffs are very helpful and they are seasoned archers as well. They will give you a basic run down on handing the equipment, range rules, stance/ posture/ release. Because there are always beginners around, they are always on the run. Unless you are shooting absolutely bonkers, they will just let you figure out yourself. They do occasionally show up to help you with the sight or give out tips if they spot you having some difficulty landing the target. Bottom line, if you want more attention, just ask them. If you want to try out archery, Proline is a good place to start. Kids under 16 can shoot before the regular time so call them for more details. read more
