At times we were screaming asking for help for the people in front and behind us. It's really scary how deserted it felt. Other major issue, gloves were not required? What? I used to work at a zip line place and much of what I saw upset me. I would look elsewhere when considering trying something like this.

I have a couple of recommendations for anyone planning to go: I did not do the zip line as an add on, and I really don't think it's necessary; the classic course has six or seven zip lines, and they are all higher than the big one. I wished I had my old weight lifting gym gloves. You're holding on to things for dear life pretty much the whole time, and gym gloves would have counteracted the stress sweat on my palms, and also prevented the callouses I developed. Leave as much as you can in your car, as lockers are $5. I threw my backpack behind one of the container closets where you gear up and it was fine, but it would have been less stressful to have left it in my car. I think this is worth trying if you're not afraid of heights and looking for an unusual workout and adrenaline rush.

The friend of my friend had some last minute scheduling problems, and they accommodated us very promptly. Keep in mind that this was still two days in advance. Both of the times that I went the instructors were very helpful and informative. There were lots of moments to chuckle at little jokes they made to lighten the mood and help people relax. They had games at the end of each training. As we shot the trainers assessed our performance only to help make slight adjustments that always made improvements.

If it's your first time, you get to do a super-fun introductory class (that's accessible to everyone of all ages and levels of athleticism - including "basically none") that teaches you the basics while also keeping it really entertaining with mini-competitions and such. Definitely a great group activity to try out with friends / family. After doing the intro lesson, you're free to sign up any time afterwards for your own private lane to practice in for 1-2 hours or so (bumping you up from a 5-yard distance from your target to a 10-yard one) - and the staff will keep checking in on you and giving you pointers and suggestions to improve your game. Speaking of which, they're all super friendly and knowledgeable - Nas, Ace, Simon and the rest, all great guys with lots of patience and sunny dispositions. It's roughly $35 for 1 hour of use of the space and to rent out a bow and some arrows (and the extra coaching is free) - a very reasonable deal in NYC. My wife and I have been coming back at least twice a month since the Winter and we've had a blast every visit. Super fun to watch yourself progress and get more and more accurate too. And as an added bonus, it's smack dab in the middle of Chinatown - tons of great spots to eat at around here, after an hour of archery. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting or living here.

I came here on a Saturday afternoon for a 90 minute class, actual shooting time is probably about only 10-15 min total as there are about 12-14 of us so need to share and rotate the targets. Plus there was a regular class right before us that they start only 30 min before us so that means more waiting in between the shooting. The instructors are very skilled however and knew what they were talking about and they take safety very seriously so I felt safe the whole time and didn't have any urges to mess around :-) Location is inside a church in the gymnasium area, if you get lost just ask the people around and they will guide you nicely to the archery area. I had a great time here and is seriously considering coming back again should there be anymore groupon deals~

Anyways, the biggest turn off is the fact that they only accept cash (if you're with a family, you can easily spend more than 100 bucks. So who in the world carries this much cash??!). They have an ATM machine for your 'convenience.' The second time we came here, the ATM machine didn't have enough cash in the machine and we had to go outside and retrieve it elsewhere. As for the bowling experience, it's ok. They have these modern TVs that do some goofy animations with your faces, which is funny and entertaining. I remember the first time we came here with my parents (who were bowling for the first time), we requested for a bumpers just to give my folks a better chance to score. The guy (owner?) was giving us a hard time about it and gave us faces. Ok sure, we understand it's for kids, but what's so wrong if it's for a first time bowler???! How hard would it be to put up a bumper anyway?! I found his reaction quite offensive. He eventually allowed the bumper to be on for only my sister's turn (since she was a minor in the group). I've been to other bowling places and never had a problem. The food, while still expensive, taste pretty good. I remember the fries tasting fresh and warm.
