I asked to pause for a while for legitimate reasons, but was denied. I attended for 8 months, paid for 4 I was unable to attend, then they charged me for an additional month. They tried explaining it to me that they needed to charge me on the first and the last of the month, but I guess it wasn't registering for me why I had to pay 13 payments for a 12 month contract. Very shady. And very rude and dismissive when I brought it up, not even trying to look into or understand the situation. I didn't make this a one star review because I really loved the instructors and my time there. It's honestly a shame. I had no idea other people were having the same experience, this can't be legal. I feel like they are setting themselves up for a lawsuit for no reason.

I was going to be in Memphis over the Christmas holidays and sent an email. Received a response from Brooke the same day encouraging me to drop in. Wanted to ensure that I created the proper approach, so I asked about the cost to attend a few drop-in classes while in town. She provided information on Bot's Boxing which operates from the same building at Memphis Judo. My child is 5, and has the option to come any 2 days a week that work for our schedule. Children learn self-discipline, respect, balance, and strength as they go through the skill levels from the very first day they recite to earn their white belt. Parents may stay and watch, or may leave and return to pick their children up at the end of a lesson. At a child's second lesson of the week, he or she will receive a sticker on their belt focusing on the skill of the week. Stickers are also given out for students who complete the once-monthly homework assignment. Cost for beginners is about $130 a month, either 2 or 3 days a week, uniform is usually included in the initial registration package. T-shirts, also acceptable for practice, may be purchased in the lobby area. Once or twice yearly, an inner-school tournament is held among all the USA karate locations throughout the city. Kids compete, but nobody walks away empty handed. My only gripe is the advertising. USA Karate really uses its' students to plug the karate classes to their friends, and even rewards the students who give out the most vouchers, entering them in drawings for a big prize.

I actually congratulated that individual on his accomplishment, but I also commented that maybe we would see more classes offered taught by one of their most loved instructors. Fairly immediately, my comment was liked by others (positive feedback), but then quickly deleted by management. The following day, I sent a private message. The owner (Butch) contacted me and asked that I give him a call. Apparently, I didn't phone him quick enough, so then I got a threatening message saying my membership would be terminated if I didn't call by the end of the week. I'VE ATTACHED SCREENSHOTS OF THE CONVERSATION. He is a coward who doesn't accept CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. He is unable to separate his emotions from running a business. He flat out refuses to put a suggestion box in the gym for anonymous feedback. Instead, he claims to rather have feedback given to him verbally or in-person. As you can imagine, not everyone is comfortable providing feedback in that manner. Take it from me though, if you want to work out at this gym, don't provide any feedback unless it's 100% positive. Anything less and he'll cancel your membership. ‍ I've also been told he canceled someone's membership for commenting that the new hire instructors were not qualified. On the subject of instructors, there are only 2 instructors worth going to and they are very rarely scheduled (I'm happy to provide their names if you want to contact me). The rest are simply former kickboxing members turned instructor who have no real qualifications and terrible music selection for a high-intensity workout! The atmosphere is wonderful. The instructors are top notch, friendly, and great with kids. My daughter has gained self respect, and courage in herself to do things she thought she wouldn't be able to do while studying Karate at USA Karate. My wife enjoys every bit of training in Krav Maga for self defense, and a great workout. I'm a little bit of rock and roll. I rock out until I knock out, baby!

Even in the midst of a pandemic, they are able to teach classes virtually. They make the classes fun and encouraging for the kids (and for me, as well).
