I can honestly Say Michael Trathen PT and Procare are the best in Florida. I have been dealing with multiple medical issues for many years, including 4 revisions of a knee replacement, cervical and lumbar spinal issues, and bilateral peripheral nerve issues in my upper extremities, requiring 18 surgeries since 2012, and leading me to countless doctors, treatment options, and rehabilitation facilities. Last July, I was required to make a change with my physical therapy and a friend recommended Michael Trathen at Procare Physical Therapy. His son worked with Mike many years ago for a hamstring injury and loved the care he received. Michael had him back playing high school football within weeks! To be honest, the thought of starting with another PT Center was very overwhelming to me. I was truly over dealing with different PTs and PTAs and spending my time and money doing exercises by myself while my PT or PTA worked with other patients, sometimes up to 6 patients at a time. But, I needed help, so after much prayerful consideration, I decided to give Mike a try. It was the best decision I ever made...a true blessing. I have been working with Mike and his team Karen and Claude 3X a week since our initial consultation last August. Procare follows a 1 to 2 patient - one therapist and a hands on philosophy of treatment, even when a patient is performing their exercises; making necessary adjustments for technique, form, and posture. The patient has the therapist's undivided attention for the entire session. The facility is excellent and the staff is not only professional, but very kind and caring. Mike will say hello and ask how I am doing every time I see him! But, I am most impressed with and truly thankful for his Team. In the past, many therapists have been intimidated by my multiple medical issues. The Procare Team was more than willing to help me. Their approach is comprehensive and compassionate treating my whole body to lower pain levels and improve function. Procare Phyiscal Therapy are AMAZING!!! For 10 years I have suffered with debilitating constant headaches, cervical pain, and exhaustion from the pain. This was due to major car accidents that caused 3 herniated discs in my upper neck area and put me in the hospital for 1 month. Over the years I have done literally EVERYTHING! I have been to orthopedic doctors, Neurosurgeons, chiropractors, etc etc. I did traction, TENS unit, acupuncture, nerve blocks more than once, physical therapy several times, and wore neck braces. NONE of these things helped at all, and actually some made it worse. The only help has been seeing my massage therapist once a week and pain medication. I continued to be active since all 3 neurosurgeons I have seen told me I must keep going. None of them felt surgery was an option. However, there were some days where I had to just stop and lay in bed for a day or two to let things "settle down". In the past couple of years it has been getting worse, so more pain meds which is not a good thing. I really could not imagine what I could do to help nor could I fathom living the rest of my life with this chronic pain. My massage therapist recommended Procare PT, she had worked for Michael a few years back and said he was by far the best person around to help me. I had nothing to lose so I started seeing Mike. I am probably going to be one of his best testimonies because my pain is nearly gone. Mike and has done some manipulation techniques and instructed his team to give me strengthening exercises, and some minor adjustments that have made a huge difference. Now that I am 99% better I have been able to play tennis without medication for days before and after, I have gotten back to sewing, I have been able to sleep better, and have definitely had more energy. I don't recommend breaking yourself, but if you do, I HIGHLY recommend Michael Trathen PT & Procare PT Allow me to explain: - Patient people: Let's just say I'm not the brightest when it comes to understanding insurance but Sussy and Joan were so sweet to explain it multiple ways so patiently. I never felt bad for asking all my questions and I always got answers that made sense. - Awesome staff: I probably talked to everyone there at some point. They're always friendly and encouraging - just all-around nice people. Sussy (Office Manager) is super sweet, has all the answers, and makes scheduling easy. Michael Trathen (PT/OWNER) and Claudiu my other Therapist are determined as I am to get me back on the soccer field. They are knowledgeable, always have a plan for my time which is usually 60-75 minutes, and always provides one-on-one time to everyone for extra pain (er, I mean healing). ;) They also puts up with my $h!t and sometimes I even get it back. So excited to feel good and be able to play again, but so sad to have to leave them all behind. - Good range of equipment: In June, I limped in for my evaluation fresh out of a sexy medical boot with zero muscle from not using my foot and leg for months. With the help of all the equipment including the coolest thing you've never tried,** I'm running, have gained plenty of muscle and movement back, and I'm working my way back into sports pretty easily. - Always prompt: I never waited past my appointment time to start. They'll even get you going early sometimes. WHAAAT? Yes - that's happened. - Long hours: Do you work a 9-5? No problem! Their hours can be pretty accommodating. I got to rehab my ankle AND receive a paycheck to pay for said rehab. Double bonus. But seriously though - it was so great not to have to skip out on work for something you truly need to do. - ample parking: Even for a big truck which is usually a challenge, but not here. - If you or someone you love chooses to break themselves, start here! ........ I do not usually write reviews, But Procare has truly changed my life and I would like to share my story. Before come to Procare PT, referred to a very reputable Physical Therapy Center, were I had 16 visits of PT. Although they were very friendly, I left there actually feeling worse. The pain I was in before visiting Procare Physical Therapy (PPT) was excruciating!! REALLY!! I had been to the ER and Urgent Care 3X in 3 months. I also gone to a Pain specialist that did a serious of shots, with minimal results. After coming to Procare Physical Therapy, I had 50% relief within 4 treatments. Michael Trathen (Director Of PT), along with the other staff, were very helpful and pleasant to work with every day. They were always very informative, with, not only what I needed to do, but why and how. This was something I hadn't received at the other PT Center. I honestly did not think that I was going to find relief, but I DID - thanks to PPT. I highly recommend PTT for any physical therapy needs. I meet so many other patients there and they all raved about this place. I actually enjoyed going to PT every day. I was having sever pain in my neck with Referred pain and numbness going to my fingers. Also, if you struggle with headaches, migraines, neck tension, shoulder tension, etc. and now this is virtually gone. This place was amazing. The ProCare Staff was fantastic right from the get go. From the time I made that fist phone call, till the day I was discharged, It has been a great experience coming here. They have really helped me big time. I was having sever pain in the elbow and also numbness going into my pinky. The Pain was debilitating. I had tried many things prior to coming here. Chiropractic,acupuncture, cortisone shots and several doctors.. I went to an Orthopedic Elbow/Wrist specialist in Miami, who wanted to do some kind of crazy surgery. She was going to open up my elbow and move the nerve to a different location. I was like, oh Hell NO!! There has to be another way. The doctor then gave me the Option to go see Michael at Procare. She said, he is the best PT in South Florida. I was desperated when I came to see Michael Trathen. He could tell I was nerveous, and he made me feel as ease right from the moment I met him. He sat with me and broke down my issue, so I could understand what was going on in my arm. Everyone else just talked surgery or over my head. So I appreciated him taking the time to teach me. He then explained what his team was going to do to fix my problem. I have to tell you I was a bit skeptical, but game. But, OMG it has been a complete success!! The Procare Team (Mike, Karen and Claude) have done the best job. At first My pain got worse, which Michael had warned might happen. But, slowly my pain started to subside and the tiggling in my finger stopped. I woke up one day and was like where did it go??? I had a couple days where it flared up, but Mike and the team continue to work on me till I was 100% pain free with no numbness/tingling. Sussy the office manager is all about customer service and just a doll!!. The team is made up of awesome physical therapists. Every day I came to the facility all the patients and staff were always having fun!! Everyone is alway smiling, from the front desk to the therapist. My Jouney to Procare PT. After being diagnosed with a severe herniation of the L4-L5 disc, my doctor advised I was likely going to need surgery but suggested I try physical therapy first, in hopes of avoiding surgery. Since I have never needed physical therapy before, I asked around for a reputable physical therapist. A close friend (who also happens to be an orthopedic surgeon) recommended Michael Trathen and Procare Physical Therapy in Fort Lauderdale, FL. When I arrived for my first appointment, I was in significant pain and was convinced that physical therapy would be a waste of time, for I was destined for a surgical remedy. My physical therapist, Michael Trathen listened carefully to my symptoms and explained, in detail, the physiology of my injury and how physical therapy might help. Michaels knowledge and obvious competence immediately made me more optimistic that this might actually work. For the next six weeks I saw Michael and His Assisting 2-3 times per week. Although I had some setbacks, Michael always remained positive and focused. What I appreciated most was Mike's genuine concern for my well being and his sincere desire to help me. I am proud to say that I have avoided surgery and have just received the news that my injury is healed. I am currently pain free and getting back to my routine (which my kids especially enjoy now that Dad can play with them again). Procare Phyiscal Therapy has earned my appreciation and respect. I was in a state of paralysis from what I thought were lower back spasms. After heading into urgent care, being shot in the glute with a heavy dose of meds and followed up with pain killers and a higher dose of muscle relaxers I was referred to Michael Trathen at Procare Rehab and Wellness (Procare Physical Therapy). Due to past PT experiences, I was ready to be thrown a medicine ball and be put on a treadmill. However, when I got into the clinic Michael used a forensic method of questioning that resulted in a diagnosis of not only back spasms but other muscles that were not engaging. Because these muscles were not engaging, their opposite muscles were also in spasm. The end result was they gave me specific exercises that can be done in 15 minutes a day. (yes 15 minutes) These pinpointing specifics engage the opposite spasm muscles and stopped the ones that were in spasm. In one visit Mike gave me the tools to fix what has been bothering me for years. After more thorough examinations, the next few visits led to healing my knee pains, walking gait and believe it or not scar tissue from a surgery that has been impeding hand movement in my left arm and causing it to get numb for years. The manual therapy that has been performed on my arm specifically has been so dramatic that the scar tissue is not only healing functionally, but it is noticeably healing the scar tissue on the surface. I'm now able to play stringed instruments that require fret board manipulation with my left hand! The staff that I've personally worked with and been part of my healing process is extremely knowledgeable and incredible friendly, you can tell they love what that do. While being led and mentored by Michael Trathen.. I've never been in a clinic where the healers work harder than the patients. You are appreciated! I have been to a series of Doctors and Medical Professional with no luck. I have been working for the past year with our team's medical staff and several University and local Contracted Sports / PT Centers. When one of my college teammate recommended Michael Trathen PT. He told me of Mike's has a long standing history of working with Pro athletes and has an exceptional reputation. He is the guy that people go to when all else has failed. I was a bit skeptical at first, mainly because I had so many previous fails. But, Wow.... right from the start I could tell Mike was in a league of his own. He spent literally an hours with me. He broke my body down to the smallest issues, from noes to toes (sitting, standing, jumping, squatting, bending, laying down, side.....etc.) I can honestly say Mike is on a whole other level then the people I have worked with in the past. I recently suffered an injury that requires physical therapy. I did a lot of research prior to booking hoping to find the right place. But, You never know?? I heard great things about Mike Trathen and Procare PT. So, I decided to give it a shot. I was a bit nerveous and I honestly didn't quite know what to expect. My first appointment was outstanding. I met with Sussy the Office Manager upon arriving and she quickly got me squared away with the paperwork. When I finished, I was quickly seen by my therapist. Michael explained what we would be doing and answered all my questions. He was extremely knowledgeable and built my confidence in the healing process. He spent an almost 1 hour with me, because he could tell I was anxious. This injury has come with feeling a little depressed with not being able to live a normal life like before my injury. Michael Trathen the owner and Lead Therapist, listened to my concerns and set a plan to help me "get back on my feet." I mentioned that I would like to come back for a second appointment the following day. They didn't have any times available, so Michael agreed to come in at 7:40am to see me. This was not his usual work time but he went out of his way to accommodate me. I was super impressed with his willingness to help me out. I really want to heal and conveyed this to Michael a few times. I am a motivated customer and he was willing to go overboard to help me achieve my goals. Michael and his team are amazing. Michael Trathen PT and his staff are wonderful. Starting from the front: Joan and Sussy are so funny and enviting, they always make you smile no matter how bad you are feeling. For the past year, I have had lower back pain (severe sciatica) which is like having a knife in your back splitting your leg open all the way down the outside. My GP had sent me to the hospital for three epidural steroid injections which provided very temporary relief (5 weeks at most) and insurance will only allow 3 of those per year. But, this is only a bandaid and the pain always comes back. First of Michael really listens and can tell so much just by looking at how you stand and walk. His adjustments, traction, ultrasound, and massage therapies got that painful stabbing feeling out of my back and leg within about 5 visits. The first few times, I felt little relief right after a session (which he said was normal) but I would go home and ice the areas the way he said to. Finally the day arrived when I woke up and the knife was gone. But, Mobility was still tough and I still have to be careful not to stand or sit or walk too long, but each time I go, I got better and better. I feel 95% better than I did when I started with him two months ago and that is saying a lot. From crying in pain every single day to not crying at all (other than from knee and hip pain which is another story) is a major miracle in my book. He has helped me when no one else could and I will be forever grateful. I will continue to visit him in order to maintain the healing that has come from his hands and his staff who do the traction, ultrasounds and massage. I highly recommend Procare Physical Therapy to anyone needing physical therapy and interested in lasting outcomes. I have to admit I was somewhat skeptical. I'd battled with a painful Achilles' tendon for years, exacerbated by a very busy tennis season. It would hurt every time I got done playing, and even stretching regularly and wearing a boot at night did not alleviate it. The doctor I saw for it actually recommended surgery if therapy didn't help. Well, after just 4 weeks of therapy with Micheal Trathen and his Team, it is almost as good as new. I haven't felt this great in years. He did several strengthening exercise with me and they have made all the difference. I just came back from an entire weekend of long tennis matches, and have no problems whatsoever with my ankle. I've been able to stop wearing the boot at night, and my feet aren't nearly as stiff in the morning as they used to be. This is much better than I've ever hoped it could get. I should also say that going to therapy wasn't a drag. It's a fun environment, there were always good conversations going on, and I ended up looking forward to my twice-weekly sessions. Go to Procare Physical Therapy, if you have any joint that hurts, and don't jump to surgery too quickly - you'll be amazed what these strengthening exercises can do for you! I feel very grateful to have found a place that could help me with my facial paralysis when I thought I had no hope. I called several places, but everyone told me they didn't offer treatment for my healthcare condition. Fortunately, when I called Pro Care, Sussy, the administrative director, told me that they could help me. I never felt so happy to find a place that could help me when I needed it the most. My face was completely paralyzed, with dropping eyes and mouth and eyes, and I didn't know how long it would take for me to heal. In my first visit Michael did my evaluation and did a great job in defining an intensive treatment plan, which was the key factor for my fast recovery. In less than two months I found relief and maintain muscle health through massages, exercises, as well as electrical stimulation. I also had a great experience with the physical therapists. All of them are wonderful, Jose, Linda & Karen, but Jose went over and beyond to help me heal fast. He is an amazing physical therapist, very professional, knowledgeable, dedicated, compassionate, and a caring person. He listened to my concerns and tailored my treatment to meet my needs. I would like to take this opportunity to share my personal experience at ProCare Physical Therapy. On 06-11-15 (Friday) I walked into Procare in excruciating spine-back pain when Michael Trathen PT could see I had difficulty standing. After a few questions Michael guided me into a private consultation room for an evaluation. Joan at the front desk quickly contacted my PCP and within 20 minutes had a script and Michael continued an evaluation in such a professional way. He performed a differential diagnosis and suspected a herniated disc. I had prior treatment for a sciatic pinched nerve at 2 different facilities prior to coming to Procare, and had no relief. Michael (PT) and staff continued with my case until an MRI showed that I indeed had a herniated disc. I went to a spinal surgeon who wanted to do surgery, but I decided to try Procare first. I continued treatment with Procare for six weeks. All-tho some days are were very challenging, I am happy to say that I am now pain free. I am now able to go back to work and play with my kids. I can honestly say that my personal experience with Procare was exceptional! each employee, PT's, aide's, front desk staff, are there with a smile and to help you through painful days. "I am 75 years-old and thanks to Michael Trathen, I have been able to keep myself active. I have been coming to his Center for years. Whenever I have any physical setbacks, I get in to see him right away and he gets me back up and active again. I am an above average athlete playing tennis at the Coral Ridge Country Club every Saturday and Sunday as well as golf four days a week at my local Country Club. Again, thanks to Michael Trathen and the Procare Team, after a hip replacement in 2016 and a shoulder replacement in early 2018, I can still compete in tennis with fellows 20-30 years younger. From the Senior tees in golf, I can shoot in the high 90's. I am four month out of treatment at Procare PT and have to say I had a most positive experience with Michael Trathen PT and Procare Physical Therapy in Fort Lauderdale. I am an avid runner, traveling softball player, basketball player and a general exercise enthusiast. But, for the past year I have been unable to do any of these activities due to a painful Hamstring and Ankle injury. At Procare PT, I was able to get into therapy without delay and began a program that consisted of hands on treatment, exercises and muscle energy techniques. I loved the diversity of treatment approaches, especially challenging with with sports related activities that mimicked associated sports moments. I wanted the most comprehensive and toughest regimen they had to offer, and they did not disappoint! Michael was clear in outlining what I was to accomplish in therapy to insure support and healing. Karen and Claude established exercises that were challenging and faling. I had the best time in the Clinic, while getting the workout I desired as I was healing my injury. The hands on methods of treatment were critical in giving me an added boost to he continue the regimen on my own. All staff were friendly and helpful. After 6-8 weeks of PT 3 x a Week at Procare, I left feeling amazing. For the past month I have been playing in a backetball league and am leading me team in scoring and feeling amazing. I have been sufferning from Vertigo for years...Michael Trathen and the Procare Physical Therapy Team are a dream come true. The exercises are doable because they evaluate your ability prior to treatment. As soon as I am competent with an exercise, Mike's Team makes it HARDER. Karen & Claud have given me the exercises to view at home on the computer, which makes remembering easier. These folks are the experts! All of the therapists and front office are very nice and caring and know their stuff. I have had a vestibular problem for years and none of the doctors could figure this out.I tried other physical therapy places- but they really centered on sports medicine with a touch of vestibular as their secondary expertise- or they gave me 12 home based exercises which is debilitating to do in the beginning. Having Vertigo is very disabling and my life has been put on hold- socially and even enjoying vacations or travel. After one visit to Mike and faithfully doing the exercises at home I am 74 percent better! I am very grateful- I know I have a road still to go- but now I can stand at a counter without feeling like I have to move to feel right. Less brain fog too. ProCare Physical Therapy is the absolute best!! I saw Doctor Michael Trathen a few years back and was very impressed with the treatment I received for a severely dislocated shoulder. He took great care of me and I now have full pain free function of my shoulder and have no issues of instability. So, when I hurt my back I didn't hesitate to call Him again. I told Mike that I had to get back to an active lifestyle, because I was getting depressed from not being able to exercise. One of the things I love about Procare is that all the Therapist provide hands on one on one treatment. Mike committed himself into helping me with my back problem the moment I walked through his door. He made clear to me that his goal was to get me PAIN FREE as fast as he could and that my recovery was just as important to him as it was to me. He is very knowledgeable, competent,and he truly cares and listens to you. Not to mention that he is very professional and has great bedside manner. I also love the fact that he always made sure to design a plan that worked not only in the clinic , but could be done at home. Also his Therapist, Karen and Claude have miracle hands.
