Picnic pavilions, swimming pool, tennis courts, softball fields and much, much more make up Myers Park. Plenty of shade is provided by the canopy trees throughout the park. A notable mention was the horse shoe throwing area that had horse shoes ready to throw! I actually threw a dead ringer within a couple of throws! The park is relatively large and with what seems to be ample parking. Located in an older residential part of Tallahassee, Myers Park seems to be a great place to throw a BBQ or birthday party or simply to get out and meander around the densely wooded acreage which is very beautiful.

What was probably a ravine with water flowing through it is now a small park with some up and down to it if you walk or run the exercise trail that winds through. Any running water has long ago been buried below with pipes. The Boy Scout meeting house in the park has been around since 1935. The Recreation Center building was opened in 1957. There is one ball field currently used for softball and some tennis courts. There is a small concrete track on the perimeter. Seems like I remember seeing a small picnic pavilion. I have lots of memories from my youth at this park. I practiced for peewee football here. I slid down the hill beyond the outfield fence on cardboard. The Boy Scouts had our carved racers events here (Pine Wood Derby?). I took a pottery class and an air rifle safety class at the Recreation Center. The Recreation Center was the site for high school teen dances on Saturdays. Many of the same activities I participated in here are still happening. The Recreation Center has a full calendar of art classes. Lots of people walk or run the exercise trail through the park. Sports are still played. Picnics are still done. Maybe the Boy Scouts still meet in their building. The earliest of Tallahasseeans walked through here and I suspect that will continue to happen for a long time to come.

That being said, we went for the holiday celebrations, and well, this was packed more than a can of sardines. We were only there the last hour of the festivities, but it felt like an eternity. Lines, lines everywhere, with lots of disorganization as there were minimal lights and a lot of staff that were directing people to park in places further when there was parking up front. Ugh. Definitely a place to come early for a special day because it's hard to get a decent spot otherwise. The lines, lines everywhere continued everywhere honestly. The food trucks, the finding a good spot, the entering and leaving the park. Sigh. At least the fireworks were pretty. Will have to return on a regular day to see if I can actually enjoy this park rather than just think of all the stress it brought us.

New park discovery of a Tallahasee gem for running and hiking …read more This 255-acre park with 3 1 mile mountain bike trail was named in 1977 after a Leon High coach (1944 to 1946) Thomas Irwin Brown .Tom Brown was also a Babe Ruth League coach for 20 years and a Leon County Commisioner for 14 years. His love of sports was the blueprint for establishing these beautiful and well-kept trails and park. I love to find new places to run and hike while traveling and was surprised at how many baseball, softball fields, and tennis / pickle board courts this park offers. You can hear the peck of woodpeckers on trees and many different types of birds such as cardinals and swallow tailed kite as you hike on their asphalt paths or dirt trails. A nice change from the normal sounds of Houston traffic. Check out this park while in Tally .

The amenities are superb: pool, basketball court, racquetball courts,…read moreindoor track, numerous weight circuits, various weight lifting machines and equipment, cycling studio, myriad cardio machines, and another workout studio offering various classes. Another plus, everything is CLEAN. I used to be a member of another gym that was rarely cleaned and their machines were subpar. Their locker/shower areas are decorated with modern tiles, and televisions look back at you behind the mirrors over the sinks. There are saunas and steam rooms as well. Like many gyms, you get a few complimentary training sessions a year. Vale restaurant has a small section when you walk in as well. I am quite pleased I joined Premier.

While I love the pool, hot tub, and all of the amenities, there are serious problems. The staff doesn't know anything about the gym equipment so they couldn't help me get started. I ended up downloading apps for the exercise equipment and using them to find out how to use the machines. The machines that have the capability to have you walk down a road in a country of your choice or stuff like that aren't enabled so you can't do that. They have a bad problem with people loafing on the strength training machines looking at their phones, even though cell phones are not allowed. There is an adult swim class and water polo practice and when that's own, the majority of the pool is reserved. The college closes for Spring Break, Winter Break, etc, and when that happens, the Leach Center is closed, too. Parking is horrendous. There already aren't enough spaces, and when a game is on, they close off some of the lots near the Leach Center. I only found out after getting a citation that membership does not allow you to park in the lot for free. I had to buy a parking permit and that's $65 per semester. I wasn't told about that when I signed up so I'm looking to go to another gym after my current membership ends. I also hate that because I'm not a current student, I can't just swipe a card to get in. I have to give the person at check-in my phone number and that gets tedious.

I appreciate the natural lighting and the staff as well. Things that need to be improved: weight area is too small for the quantity of people here. The gym really just needs to be 24/7. The therapeutic atmosphere allows you to escape the stress of the day to day grind and it really was just an amazing place to chill for a bit and just relax and temporarily put aside the grind of a workday. We as a community need parks, a place where we can go and gather in recreation and relaxation. A.J. Henry Park is a great park and I definitely recommend heading to this wonderful park.
