The owner has extensive knowledge of the hobby and is doing it because he loves it, not to make money. As an example, several items I noticed were priced lower than Ebay or online and when I asked him about that he agreed. However, he was still able to make his margins and wanted to better help local modelers. His section of new and used HO trains is pretty diverse. There are lots of great deals on vintage kits and older stock, but he has modern cars too with all the great details (and higher prices). His O gauge tinplate selection seemed a bit more limited but I don't really focus on that. He had a great selection of books and magazines, and a cute display layout. Behind the counter is his collection of his personal models in display cases. He has (along with his custom painter) assembled what is probably the best collection of locomotives and cars that are unique to the upstate New York area. If local shortlines use (or used) these engines, he has one. It was like looking at a museum. And, if the price is right, he will sell them. My prices weren't right though! It is quite a drive from Albany (about an hour each way) so if I need something I first call ahead to see if he has it. However, if you need advice or want to see what the new trends are in the hobby stop by. And, make sure to check him out at the local trains shows too.

The thing that really sold me on this store was the pricing. Many smaller comic shops jack up the prices of their minor keys or poor condition major keys to absurd amounts. But almost everything I came across here was priced exactly as it should be - in some cases even a little lower. Really happy with the books I walked away with and would definitely go back here again.

The old gentleman working there wasn't even aware I was in the shop, I think, until I spotted him at a desk and approached to ask a question. He was pretty helpful once I did though. Organization is general--by topic but definitely not by author or subsections within each topic. If you're at all sensitive to mold or musty books, bring and wear a mask. I only had 15 minutes before they closed, but found a couple of slim nonfiction treasures: $1 for a Zen Buddhist journal/magazine, and $2 for a pamphlet. The collection is heavy and nonfiction, including plenty of history, religion, and social sciences, with some art & music. Fiction is a mix of non-current popular titles and quasi-vintage books. I asked about science fiction and fantasy and there was one shelf, mostly old science fiction. I hope to go back to browse, and bring a mask and my history-book-loving husband.

Nice selection of unique, fairly priced items. The folk in the shop have been always friendly, always helpful everything time I've been in (All two times). What I like is their selection of tie-dyed items and Baja hoodies. I actually bought one of my favorite Baja hoodies there. They also sell my favorite brand of incense, and not only that but offer up several fragrances I don't find anywhere else. So I usually pick up that as well. Tell you what, definitely makes my suitcase smell nice when I pack it in my checked luggage. Anyhoo, chances are I'll be back the next time I'm in New York. There are not a lot of frills in the store, and it's not for collectible figures and random stuff like that. It's comics and a comics guy. Lots of new stuff. Butt tons of back issues. Of course, the problem with the store like this is space doesn't allow things to be displayed easily. Which is why you need The Comic Guy. (Note: The Comic Guy could be of any race or gender, obs, but does tend to be a quirky cis white dude.) He offered general, generic help when we walked in. And then when he saw Hubbo might be looking for something he checked in again. And then he knew what he had and where it was. Awesome.
