What a great country store. It's been in the area for many, many years, but this is the first time…read morethat I've ever visited. Tons of gift items and tchotchkes everywhere plus some really yummy looking baked goods. It took every ounce of my willpower to not indulge in the cider donuts or double chocolate cookies or pumpkin pie or apple fritters...etc. Attached to the adorable country store is an equally adorable café called Lunch Thyme. They only serve lunch as per the name. Locals remember when they had a big breakfast offering back in the day. New owners are running a lovely, clean, fresh and simple menu as of April, 2022. I had a turkey sandwich with a side salad and homemade balsamic vinaigrette. Iced tea was just right and the portions were "normal". Nothing too overstaffed and I really liked the condiments. I tasted the quiche, macaroni, salad and cheddar broccoli soup. Everything is clearly homemade and quite delicious. Friendly service, nice people, good food, chill vibe.

Indeed, upon entering a new restaurant, we ask ourselves: Is it managed by The Wicked? Will they gnash upon us with their teeth? We choose to still take the risk. Will we will be gnashed to tiny pieces, or will we feast upon the fine goods of the earth? So, of course, this was the concern to be had top of mind upon entering Fo'Castle Farm and proceeding into the depths of Lunch Thyme. Indeed! Lunch Thyme is somewhat within the bowels, or--we might say--the entrails of Fo'Castle Farm, which is not to say that it is walled in and airless like a prison cell. The guest finds an open and welcoming space, a thick leather couch, many screened windows, and the vast smile plastered upon the face of the owner(s). Lunch Thyme welcomes its visitors into its warm and breezy arms. It offers a small but finely chosen selection of items. Quiche lovers, sandwich lovers, salad lovers, and soup lovers alike will find solace in the menu at Lunch Thyme. One can sample a roast beef sandwich on a tender ciabatta roll, a salad with roasted beets, or several juicy and meaty balls on a bread as if it were taken from Italy itself. And the prices. The prices, it may be said, are reasonable for the area: not a bargain per se, but nor does Lunch Thyme greedily tear away visitors' wallets to gorge itself upon their contents. In short, it is reasonable. That is it. That is it indeed. In a word, Lunch Thyme is reasonable.

I see Paula every year on my birthday and have been the past four years! I drive just under an hour to see her each time and would drive longer if I had to. She remembered me from the first time I went. Her prices are unmatched and her service is amazing. She is so kind! She always has a big beautiful collection to choose from! If I could give her more than five stars I would. If you are looking for a shop with good prices, nice owner and a good selection with great quality, Paula is YOUR GIRL!!! Not to mention she's dog friendly! (Note, just make sure your pup is well behaved! I'm sure she has a 'you break it you buy it' policy.) I hope Paula's stays open forever!!! LOVE YOU PA

The store is very small and seems to cater to customers seeking crystals, new age items, and some small glass art creations. Nothing we were interested in enough to purchase, so we didn't stay long. We noted a huge chair as art piece across the street. Paula informed is that she had made the large woven seat for the huge chair art. Four stars for friendliness and unique shop, just nothing I was personally interested in. It wouldn't be a 'must stop' or 'drive out of your way to come here' spot for roadtrippers but if in or around town anyway you may find something of interest here if into New Age things.

I asked one the kids working there, "I know we're not in Zone 10, but what Zone are we in?" He looked at me blankly as if I had asked him to solve a quadratic equation...Fortunately, another customer had overheard our conversation and said, "We're in Zone 5, those will be dead by October." We did get a few things, and after putting them in, realized we needed more, I told my wife, "We're going to Kulak's tomorrow." I had a question about mulching perennials as well as keeping weeding to a minimum, (we're creating a perennial garden out of an area where bushes grew for years) and were directed to Allison. She's a wealth of information, a little bit into our conversation, another customer stopped to listen. Allison asked, "Can I help you?", the customer said, "No, this is really interesting, please continue." She's also really funny and personable as well as informative. Everything they offer is quality. Again, you will pay for quality, but you will not be sorry to go there, IMHO...

Capital Sawmill Service - Portable Woodmizer Band Sawmill, cuts 36" logs to a slab width of 24"

This is a great service. I hired Capital Sawmill to mill some lumber after the derecho that hit…read moreour area downed a cherry tree on my property. The wood was too beautiful to just cut up for firewood. The service is pricey so do your math beforehand to determine whether the value of the resulting lumber is worth your investment. For me, the cost was worth it because cherry is a premium wood and I plan to use it inside my home for trim, flooring, etc. Stephen is the owner and came to my site initially to assess my job. Then a few days later, two employees, Alex and Allen showed up with the sawmill on a trailer towed by a truck. Allen is the sawmill operator and I was impressed by his efficiency and skill with the machine. He surpassed my expectations of getting much usable lumber from the logs while minimizing waste. Alex is more of the go-to guy, stacking the lumber in my barn, keeping the site cleaned up, etc. They removed all the waste and were very good about stacking the lumber where I wanted in my barn. Remember that most wood takes at least a year to slowly air dry before working with it. Alex stacked the boards with little sticks between the layers. The sticks are called "stickers" and the process of stacking is called "stickering." After it was all stickered, I brushed polyurethane on the edges to seal them to prevent splits during the drying process. The cost of their portable sawmill service is $200 per hour, with a minimum of four hours. Beware that this includes their travel time, set up on your property, packing up and returning back to their place of business in Nassau. I live relatively close and got about three hours of actual sawmill time for $800 plus tax. If you have the ability to deliver logs and pick up the milled lumber from their business, the economics would work a little bit better in your favor. Another point to remember is that rough cut lumber is not finished lumber. The band saw in the portable sawmill cuts to approximately one-inch thickness (or greater). There are slight ridges in the wood. After drying, my milled cherry boards will need to be planed and then sanded in whatever project I decided to use them. These days, "live edge" tables, mantels and other furniture is popular. Capital Sawmill can cut slabs from your wood for these kinds of projects. Initially I told them I only wanted boards. But when I saw some of the beautiful knot patterns and bark in the outer pieces that were cut from my logs, I decided to keep these also. Alex stacked them along with my straight-cut lumber. Possibly I'll used them in other projects. In summary, these guys like wood and know what they are doing. Allen is very skilled with the sawmill. Alex is also an interesting guy. What does a sawmill employee do in his spare time? He carves wood, of course, lol. At one point, he took out his cell phone and showed me some beautiful wood carvings, including one of an intricate owl that he created for his mom.
