Hoku Driving School - Happy me with my driving license

I'm absolutely thrilled that I had the experience of working with Jesse. It helped me so much to…read morefinally get my U.S. driver's license. I have a license from another country, but it is not convertible to American driving license, so I had to basically go through the entire process again. I honestly thought it wouldn't be a big problem... until I faced the reality. There were so many technicalities on the driving test that I couldn't pass it. To the point that I started to doubt myself and developed driving anxiety. That's when I realized I needed to try something different. I needed help from a professional. And that's how I found Hoku Driving School. That was one of the best decisions I've made. Jesse is everything in one person. Super positive, encouraging, and also very informative. After just the first lesson, I felt a big shift in my confidence. I stopped doubting myself. And it wasn't just feel-good talk -- he gave me very practical, helpful info that actually made me a better driver. But what really made the difference were all the little tips and tricks on how to pass the test. On top of that, he's just a great person to spend time with in the car. We talked about different things, he kept my nerves down. He was cheering me on till the day I had a test. I really felt like someone was on my side, rooting for me. It was absolutely worth the investment, and now I'm recommending him to anyone who's going through this process. Don't struggle alone. Just hire a professional and save yourself the tears and the stress.

This man was illegally parked in my neighborhood, so giving him the benefit of the doubt, I asked…read morehim if he knew he was illegally parked. His response to me was to mind my own business...I told him that my neighborhood is my business and pointed at the sign he should've read. As most petty people do, he tried to change the subject and told me to pick up after my dog, who I was walking at the time...so I showed him the bags I always keep in the pockets of all my shorts & pants, and then asked him, "what happened to minding one's business?" All he had to do was say, "oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize." and I would've told him, "mahalo" and we'd both go on with our days. I have never left a Yelp review, but it just didn't sit right with me that this man, while in the course of his job (he had a student in his car) where he's supposed to be teaching a student how to navigate Hawaiʻi's roadways, yet ¹ parks illegally, ² doesn't read posted signs, ³ and feels that the rules don't apply to him. I had a driving instructor year ago, and she made me abide by every single law you could think of, everything was by the book, and in the few times that she was wrong about something, she wasn't too proud to admit it and would correct herself. In case anyone is wondering, we live a couple hundred feet from a school and an adjacent public park...so we have kids running around all the time, and illegally parking often limits what drivers can see on the road. You'd think that a driving instructor would understand that, but clearly Hoku doesn't...or maybe he does, he just doesn't care? I don't know, I just know that I wouldn't want my kid to be learning how to drive from someone who can't even abide by posted signage himself, and when made aware of his infraction, responds poorly and in a petty manner.

Thanks to Jacob, the entire process was smooth and stress-free. He was responsive, patient, and an excellent communicator, guiding us step-by-step through exactly what needed to be done. Our daughter attended six consecutive Sunday classroom sessions and, despite some initial apprehension, ended up really enjoying herself. Jacob made the classes fun and engaging with group assignments, skits, videos, and friendly competitions. He even bought boba for the winners--which alone would have won our daughter over! As an added bonus, she got to know students from other schools. The one-on-one behind-the-wheel sessions were just as wonderful. Jacob's car has a passenger-side brake, which eased a lot of our fear and helped our daughter progress much faster. Over the course of the required 50 hours of parent-child driving practice, we noticed a clear boost in her confidence after every session with Jacob. It was also incredibly helpful that he took her on the actual test route the day before her exam, which made her feel fully prepared. Our daughter "passed first crack," and we couldn't be happier! To top it off, Jacob highlights his students' accomplishments on Instagram, which is fun and motivating. We were so fortunate to have found him--Jacob is truly the best!

He proceeded to ask where i learned from and i said my friend and he told me that they didnt know what they were doing even though they have been driving for 6 years. and i had my road test and on the way he FELL ASLEEP but i wasnt gonna let that stop me. when we got there he wanted to get some practice in so we drove the kapolei route and when driving pass a cross walk i slowed down which he asked me why i did so, i couldnt give an answer at the time i just thought its was right and he said there was no reason to and low and behold that was something i got marked down for because i was supposed to slow down incase pedestrians wanted to walk. do not recommend if you guys get leonard im not sure about any other intructor apart of this company i have not been introduced to anyone new.

The amount of racial trauma I had endured at this establishment was insane. They unfairly single out students of color, would try to get them in trouble for things other students would do, scream and curse at them, share your personal information to staff in front of the students, and then act like nothing happened. A lady (who was not even a teacher & would wear color contacts) would try to recruit other staff to slutshame me, would only try to get me in trouble even if other students would wear the same thing, and even made comments about what i was wearing when i wasnt even at school. This school is very biased towards certain students, at one point a student was able to complete all their classes virtually while everyone else had to go in person because their parents gave them extra money, but god forbid your midriff accidentally shows. When racism and unfairness were brought to the schools attention they did nothing. Instead they screamed at me until I cried and the lady defended it by saying she has friends who are of color so she cant be racist. At one point at the school a teacher would constantly talk about x related things and drugs but was later removed. Another teacher ended up dating one of their students shortly after they graduated but the school invited them back as a dj for a school event.... Ive been holding this in for awhile but this school was one of the worst decisions I ever made. Please just go somewhere else and I hope they replace the staff or atleast get a cafeteria or gym.

Teachers and principals turnover fast because of the very toxic environment and culture. The bullies stay and continue their reign of terror, and the great teachers and leaders have to leave. Teachers talk badly about students and parents in front of other students and parents. There is no transparency of where the tuition money is going. The tuition is very high and there are no repairs done at the school and they can't keep good teachers. What is the problem??? If you send your kids here, you will see for yourself.

I looked at some pictures on Yelp and figured out where it was. It's the big pink building Hawaiian paradise coffee. The school isn't listed outside the building. Drive around back and you will find it. I must say they have some serious CV rules. You wait inside your car and call the number listed on the door. They take your temperature and ask you questions about coughing , fever etc. He also said I needed to wash my hands for 20 seconds. Both parties are required to wear mask. He did give me one of those flimsy mask. I'm a rule follower and abided by all the rules. The massage was fine. He's said he was new and learning. I felt the price and level of service seemed fair. Probably $35 would be fair. They also charge an extra $5 for something I'm not sure. I would recommend it and remember they are students. I did leave a nice tip. He was very professional and seemed very sincere.

The receptionist then said "oh ok that makes sense" then said we will see you today at 1. Then the same receptionist called back 5 min later saying my appointment has to be Monday and I was ok with that but would have to change the time because of a conflicting appointment and we agreed for 3pm. I called back to make sure because I then remembered what she said about Rani not working on Mondays and wanted to make sure with Rani this would be ok. Rani answered and was upset and basically said they do not play games and said "now what" angered. So I said I do not want to be seen by them and will go somewhere else. I meant no disrespect and was confused on their scheduling and why they called me in the first place. I was pleased with Rani during our first conversation , she was very nice and informative. I hope she has a better day than today and hope she understands I met no disrespect. I also hope to find someone who can help me with my back problems through the VA... I was really hoping for help today my lower back muscles have been aching really bad over the past month and pain killers are not working. Sorry if their system reflects differently and I had no problem with going in on Monday but that seemed to really upset them that I had to change the time from 1 to 3pm due to my schedule. So sorry to have to upset anyone but they did call me first....
