This is an awesome place to stop on any road trip, especially if you've never had the chance to see…read morethe real Stonehenge in the UK! They did a great job recreating it (at a smaller scale, of course) but it's still amazing to see up close, and you're allowed to walk through the pillars here, whereas in the UK you can't get anywhere near the actual Stonehenge pillars. We were on a road trip and when I heard about this place, I knew we had to swing by and experience it for ourselves. It was only about 15 minutes out of the car, but when you're driving across the massive emptiness of West Texas, every cool stop is worth the chance to stretch your legs. Check it out if you're driving through!

Stonehenge in Texas?…read more Actually it's a "Stonehenge Replica" of the mysterious United Kingdom sight, but it's still pretty cool. Located on the campus of the University of Texas Permian Basin, these sculptures are perfect for the setting... the bright football stadium lights in the background certainly give it a different meaning. Lol. Yeah, it's obvious it was "mechanically-cut" not to mention "stacked with cranes." But the saving grace, Paul D. (review from 1/27/2020), is not that this is a free permanent outdoor art exhibit, but that this sparked so many questions from my daughters, ages 9 & 10. We visited on Good Friday 2024. It was awesome to experience their curiosity and listen to their hypotheses on everything from the real deal far across the pond to the planning of this development. This would be even better to view at night time in my opinion, but our schedule did not allow for us to stay longer. Seniors and graduate students of the college stopped by to capture graduation photos while we were there. Ample, free parking.

Let's face it, this world runs on petroleum and this is one of the vast epicenters of the industry…read more The short of it, is Odessa is a working man's oil town. I worked in the oil industry in Houston early in my career. I thought I'd seen a lot but my trip down the freeway in Odessa one morning blew my mind. It lays out in plain site the incredible number and variety of businesses it requires to produce oil. One after the other,on both sides of the road for miles are support businesses. One goal,to produce oil. Heavy equipment,,specialized compressors, chemical Containers, Monstrous pumps, trucks....each its own business displaying vast inventory and selection to satisfy the needs of the oil industry. We all take for granted jumping in our cars, turning the key, and heading out. I wish everyone could see what I saw. It makes it all a little more real. I actually appreciate the privilege of what benefits are delivered to society by the oil field industry more, after seeing Odessa Texas.

There's trash all over the place and it feels like nobody cares about the town. The food is terrible--every place I tried had bland, gross food. Not a single decent restaurant in sight. It's boring and there's nothing to do. It's a miserable, unwelcoming place. Don't bother coming here unless you have no other choice.
