I just read an article about a Vietnam vet who had his service dog removed that was given to him by…read morethese jerk's. This man served our country and is now diagnosed with Parkinson's and dementia. This dog gave him unconditional love and was as he stated "his buddy" now he's gone. "It doesn't matter who you are, you have to be a person who is still physically and cognitively able to interact with the dog, provide those cues," CEO of Paws With A Cause Michele Suchovsky said. "This is for the safety of both the client and the dog. "I was doing what I was supposed to be doing," Adkins said. "I was providing and taking care of what they say is a high-dollar dog. He wasn't a high-dollar dog to me, he was my buddy." These are direct quotes from the article. Wow so this is how we treat our countries Veterans now! They are given something that helps them to feel safe, secure, and that they have a close friend, someone who is non judgemental and gives nothing but love. Well Ms Suckovsky, I sure as hell hope you are proud of yourself and are able to sleep well at night knowing that YOU have broken the heart of someone who defended our country.

The whole tour lasts between 60-90 minutes depending on how many are on the tour and if lots of people ask questions. (You can ask questions whenever you want.) The tour started out in the headquarters building where they showed us what happens in the chain of events between a person applying for a dog and the dog being trained, a brief history, costs involved, how people foster, etc. There were a couple of volunteers that were also clients who came to speak about how much their quality of life improved after getting a service dog. They had the dog with them. After that, we received a tour of that building which included a demo by one of the trainers with a service dog. The dog showed off his abilities and it was impressive. Once we finished that building, we went to 2 other buildings where veterinary care, training classes, and other events happen. We also saw outside play areas, inside play areas, and an area that had training for things specific to someone with disabilities. They had a mock-house inside so the dogs could be used to being trained in a home-like environment. There were a few cats in residence so the dogs would be used to small animals and learn not to chase them. The facility was quite clean. The staff members were super nice. The dogs we saw looked happy and healthy. I would highly recommend this free tour to anyone. (It was about a half hour from Kalamazoo!) The staff there did not push for donations and did not have a merch area to push people to buy things. There was no such thing. I saw some merch way in the back corner of a huge training building, but we didn't go anywhere near it, and nobody suggested buying it. The tours offered are simply to help awareness of the organization. You can go on this tour and be educated about service dogs but not pressed for moola.
