Took a Microsoft Office Specialist Certification Exam here. The Proctors were friendly and…read moreprofessional, but unfortunately they do not get the support they need from the IT and Admin staff in order to offer these exams in a timely manner. The first time I took the exam, the Proctor spent an hour trying to get in contact with a member of FCPS's IT staff to get the license for the software needed to take my exam. This delay definitely took me off my game, and may have been a contributing factor to my failing of the exam by one question. For my retake, it was discovered while I was waiting for the exam that PC used to proctor the exam had not been updated, and would take until after 9pm at night to finish updating. Luckily, the Proctor was willing to come in on her off day so that I could take the exam before my certification deadline. In addition, scheduling the exams were a massive pain, with the admin staff in charge of registration often transferring my call to a person not in the office, resulting in having to play phone tag for over an hour in order to get the exam scheduled each time. Although the Proctors were friendly, professional, and went above and beyond the call of duty, the lack of support from the rest of FCPS's Adult and Community Education staff proved to be extremely detrimental to my experience, which is why I must give them a 2 star review. Until this situation changes, I can not recommend FCPS's ACE program to anyone.

I have a passion for attending live shows and thought this would be an interesting way to further that passion. As a middle-aged woman I was in the minority! Often folks thought I was some student's mother! Every teacher, every employee of Omega treated me with the greatest respect, encouraged me and supported me at every turn. I'm sorry others had a bad experience with Pete, the owner, but I found him to be gracious, and extremely knowledgable in his field. Perhaps you are the kind of person who can learn from the internet, or from experience on your own. I wasn't and a large number of fellow students seem to be the same. The students who succeed are the ones who set aside life's fun and games for a while and devoted themselves to study and practice. If you finish (and really who needs a graduation - never been to one in my life and I have a master's degree) and don't get a job in the field that's on you. Robert provides many opportunities for entry level positions. Yes, and even with your much more expensive 4 year degree you may start working at an entry level position. Please consider that unhappy people are the ones who write reviews. Satisfied folks aren't motivated! And why are all the positive reviews in the "not recommended" part of Yelp? I am now in my 3rd year of retired life, touring the country with a blues/rock band and thankful for my decision to attend Omega.

I looked forward to being around people who enjoyed teaching English, and meeting students from all around the world. If I ever came across a family member or friend who needed English support, I would definitely send them here as well. From a volunteer perspective, the Center provides so much support and training for its teachers (who do not need to be professional teachers, so this helps), including a ready-made curriculum and textbooks. Though I've been an ESL tutor in the past, having this institutional support was important for me as I wanted to be well-prepared for my students. The teaching set-up also requires each class to be taught by two teachers, which is very helpful! The students come from all around the world and have many different reasons for being in the program. I loved laughing with them, learning from them (as well as my co-teachers!!), and even learning a few things about the English language myself.

What really impressed me was my daughter stating that she now feels very confident during math exams. This was not the case before Kumon even though she still did OK on her exams. Now, she "owns" the exams and her strong work on base functions related to her grade level are the reason for her success.

They have one of those coffee machines where you can choose one of any kind of pouch of coffee (similar to a Keurig?) so that's fun. The lobby area is spacious and clean, with plenty of snacks and drinks at all times. The best part is the mid-afternoon dessert, which is always delicious. The lunch selection in the area is decent, highlighted by Noodles and Co. and Potbelly. Overall, I prefer it to the DC location, despite the long metro ride. The location is convenient enough, just a few minutes from the Rockville Station. The only negative is that the Internet is blocked at this location. They say it's for security reasons, and that's bull. If I want to be on gChat during the class or check my email, I should be able to.

He also wanted to "do us a favor" and let us out early (4-4:30) but I say hey, if I'm paying $500-$1000 for a class, I want to get my money's worth... even if my company is paying for it. Great to meet a bunch of different professionals throughout the training, as well. The facilities are extremely professional, sleek, and clean. They provide light refreshments, such as bagels, snacks, coffee, which is a nice touch. I would recommend, if you're coming from out of town, to vet their recommended hotels a bit yourself because I was unsatisfied with mine and it was on their recommended list.
