Going to Omega was one of the best experiences of my life! I went to Omega and finished in March of…read more2016. I am writing to counteract the awful reviews I see here and give another side of the story. I was retiring from a career as a public school teacher and wanted to learn more about live music. I have a passion for attending live shows and thought this would be an interesting way to further that passion. As a middle-aged woman I was in the minority! Often folks thought I was some student's mother! Every teacher, every employee of Omega treated me with the greatest respect, encouraged me and supported me at every turn. I'm sorry others had a bad experience with Pete, the owner, but I found him to be gracious, and extremely knowledgable in his field. Perhaps you are the kind of person who can learn from the internet, or from experience on your own. I wasn't and a large number of fellow students seem to be the same. The students who succeed are the ones who set aside life's fun and games for a while and devoted themselves to study and practice. If you finish (and really who needs a graduation - never been to one in my life and I have a master's degree) and don't get a job in the field that's on you. Robert provides many opportunities for entry level positions. Yes, and even with your much more expensive 4 year degree you may start working at an entry level position. Please consider that unhappy people are the ones who write reviews. Satisfied folks aren't motivated! And why are all the positive reviews in the "not recommended" part of Yelp? I am now in my 3rd year of retired life, touring the country with a blues/rock band and thankful for my decision to attend Omega.

Mr Nick, I have not lied abt ONE thing in my review & I resent the accusation. You started working…read morethere as the 2014 class was leaving. You should remember that the man who was in charge of the graduations had health issues and nobody took over his duties at this unprofessional establishment & NO ONE let any of the students know what was going on. You may not have been working there when the assault took place but it did indeed happen. You wanna call me a liar, I can name names. You act like a whole classroom of students didn't witness it. Yall lied abt firing him & you're STILL lying abt it. Robert, the man who supposedly helps with job placement, never returned phone calls & in that convo abt hopes & dreams & future jobs didn't actually listen to or care abt what field you wanted to pursue. Another reviewer mentioned touring w/ a band. Yes, that's abt all one is going to find out here. Most ppl cannot pack up & follow a band around. Most ppl going to Omega are not retirees looking for their late life career. MOST ppl coming to Omega are young and need a steady job upon leaving to pay off the massive debt they just incurred. And no, Omega does not have enough jobs for all the students they take in. I never wanted to leave a one star review for this school. I finally got Peterson on the phone (after him ducking me & lying abt calling me back) to see if there was ANYTHING that could be done to resolve our issues & the whole conversation was him condescending to me, lying & stonewalling. I was hoping Omega would be everything yall made it out to be. But the lying starts w/ Mr Goldstein promising WAY more than yall are caple of, it continues w/ Mr Peterson who carelessly brushed me off & apparently they now use you to come on here & harass legitimate reviewers....THREE yrs later.

More experienced photographers may disagree, but as a beginner, I found WSP's "Focus on…read moreComposition" course super helpful. The class tried to instill a habit of thinking through a checklist before taking a picture (or evaluating it afterwards). The checklist included, among other things: * What's the subject? * Do the direction and quality of light work for your subject? * Does the background distract from the subject? * Check the frame's edges: Is the cropping awkward? * Is there comfortable spacing between the elements of your photograph? Our class was small, so in addition to the lectures and the pithy, informative handouts, we could spend more time going over our homework, getting concrete suggestions for how to improve. For example, the instructor (Joe Yablonsky) would sometimes suggest moving the camera up, down, right, left, closer, or further, to get a cleaner background, a more flattering portrait angle, or more interesting "directionality" in the photo's lines. Other times, the instructor would notice patterns-- that my ISOs tended to be too high, or that there's dust on someone's sensor, or that the focusing was sometimes off. He'd then ask how we took the shot, and suggest new settings or focusing methods (or suggest cleaning the sensor!). Sometimes he'd ask the class to weigh in on the critique, so we could also benefit from our talented (and opinionated!) classmates. One session was a fun field trip to the National Mall. At the National Gallery of Art sculpture garden,we chased photogenic squirrels and captured tourists' hilarious reactions to Joan Miro's Personnage Gothique, Oiseau-Eclair. (Google it if you don't know it). I watched as one classmate got several amazing portraits of strangers, just by walking up and asking. The instructor also gave me a demonstration of how to get my camera to focus with a neutral density filter. (I had been having trouble with that). The course just ended last week, and I still need a lot of practice. But it's made my photos noticeably better. (One of my homework assignments even got published last week, as the page 2 photo in the Washington Post Express!) The downsides: Classes can be expensive! (Luckily I had a gift certificate). Sometimes you can find coupons or Living Social deals, e.g. here's one that's on right now (as of late March 2014): http://conta.cc/1jNpdud Washington School of Photography can be a pain to get to without a car. It's somewhat walkable from Twinbrook Metro, but the commute from DC (especially with weekend red line schedules) took me more than an hour.

I'll be taking my third class, on composition and design, next month. The 2 teachers I've had, Joe Yablonsky & Cortney Jackson, are instructors that I would recommend to anyone who wants to pursue photography as a hobby or as a profession.

I do not even know how to express my frustration with this sad excuse for a driving school. I could…read moretalk about the classes themselves, but I can't; I never got to join them. The first time I signed up, I was told I would receive a Zoom link for the online classes. That link never came, and I was dropped from the class. I then decided to contact Sam's Driving School to let them know about their mistake. In the end, the very rude lady I spoke with on the phone refused to give me a refund, so as a "compromise," my classes were just rescheduled. Today (6/29/2026) was supposed to be the start of classes once again. I have the link, I join the class, and I happily wait. The camera on my laptop wasn't working. I tried everything I could-and I mean everything to turn my camera on. Panic ruptures throughout my body; the host tells me I will be dropped from the course (AGAIN) if my camera is not on. In the end, I was not able to get my camera working. Later, I discuss the whole ordeal with my sister, who then checks Sam's Driving School's policies. On the website, there is a section that goes over what could get a student dropped from a class- lo and behold, nowhere does it say having your camera off is an offense. Sam's Driving School is lazy, sketchy, and pathetic. Never in a million years would I ever recommend this hog house to anyone.
