Once inside, hold your breath. It smells like urine. Beware of people coming up to you to ask you random things. I had it happen a few times and it's a busy station! People are all over (kids, dogs, kids, suitcases). It's a busy place. The food selection is great and the shops are nice too. It's not the worst station or the best station I've been too. It runs on time and will get you to where you need to go.

We saw it going by when we were up at Sacre-Coeur during our family outing to Montmartre earlier this month. It was so cute, like a classic toy choo-choo train blown up and painted white. We had plans to meet up with our friend after lunch in Pigalle, and as my six-year-old was feeling sick, I suggested we take it easy and ride the Petit Train, which picked up from in front of the Moulin Rouge. We bought tickets and climbed on, and took the train back up to Sacre-Coeur. This was, it turned out, a stupid mistake. Just as the Funiculaire de Montmartre is not, in fact, a funicular, the Petit Train is not an actual train. It doesn't run on tracks, and is more like a few open cars strung together, charming but rickety, guaranteed to exacerbate any preexisting nausea. The ride was short, at least, and got us back to the top, where we hung out for ten minutes before taking it down again. If everyone had been feeling well, we might have hopped off for a while before getting another one back. While I don't recommend Le Petit Train if you or your companions are susceptible to motion sickness, it is otherwise a pleasant way to get around Montmartre.

Just a heads-up: even with Premier Access, my mom and I had to wait a while. The first time, the line was around 40 minutes, and the second time (after our show got canceled and we redirected the pass to this ride), it was about 20-25 minutes. One cool detail: depending on which library room you enter, the pre-show video is either in English (with French subtitles) or French (with English subtitles). And the ride experience itself can vary! We ended up in different elevators and got two very different versions - both unlike the old California version or the one at Disney World. Also, instead of the elevator peeking out at the park multiple times, you only get one outdoor glimpse during the drop sequence. A special shout-out to the cast members - we had an amazing experience the first time we rode. They were hilarious and clearly loved their jobs, adding extra antics and flair that made the whole thing even more immersive and fun. Overall, it's a must-do for any thrill-seeker or fan of the original ride. I'm just thankful Paris still honors the classic Hollywood Tower Hotel theme

I guess it's been reconfigured in the years since and is now more of an inclined elevator, but "Inclined Elevator de Montmartre" doesn't have the same ring to it. My older son was feeling sick the day we went to Montmartre, and the Funicular provided both entertainment and an easy way up the steep hill to Sacre Couer. It was a short, pleasant walk from the train station and was easy to get on, as it's operated by the same state-owned system as the Metro. The motion was not particularly exciting, but it was cool going up a hill in a big diagonal elevator. The ride was short, and it deposited us at the top of Montmartre, where we could use our energy to see the sights. Highly recommend if you want to skip the uphill walk, or if you or your kids might enjoy a faux funicular.

It's stunning, though you'll soon realize that the part you most wanted to see - the glass enclosed space - might not be open to you. Visiting in May, the glass-domed space was locked tight, opened only for special shows and events. I've looked at the calendar now, in June, and see that they open it for many summer activities and were I there now I'd certainly try to get tickets for one of those events. Otherwise? This is still a worthy investment of time, not just to look around and peer into the glass-domed space, but to view the exhibits (individually priced, tickets available at the door). I noticed 3 special exhibits during my visit and paid for entry to 2 (Matisse and Nan Golden). Based on this experience, I'd recommend paying for entry to the exhibits of artists you're least familiar with under the assumption that they'll be less crowded. The Matissse exhibit was crowded enough to render the experience almost unpleasant. The Nan Golden show? Perfect. Though I'd recommend paying to see some exhibits, even if all you do is enter to walk around and explore the space you'll be nicely rewarded. The Grand Palais has some pleasant, quiet seating areas inside and the space is lovely.

The Gare de l'Est (East Station) is two train stations: one being part of the Paris Metro line,…read moreconnecting Lines 4, 5, and 7 and the other being the one of seven Paris mainline stations supporting TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) going to various cities in Europe. My nephew and I had planned a weekend trip to Luxembourg, and this station was the origination of the 2.5 hour high-speed trip, beginning early on a Saturday morning. We came from different places in Paris using Metro, and met up here. The walk from the Metro part of the station to the main central holding area takes a bit of time, with need to closely follow signs pointing to Gare de l'Est. About 24 minutes before the scheduled departure of our train, the platform number came up on the big board. At that point, we used the QR code from our purchased ticket to pass through the security gate of the platform. Then it was a long outdoor walk parallel to the train until one finds the correct car. We left right on-time. We came back to the same station from Luxembourg, and it was a simple matter of reversing direction back to the Metro side of the station to get back to our dorm/hotel.

Fun and Informative!…read more We booked this tour for the first morning of our Paris adventure for two reasons: 1) We expected to be tired from the cross-Atlantic flight the previous day and didn't want to do anything too strenuous right away; and 2) We wanted to get an overview of the city before exploring area by area. We chose the "Paris highlights by e-mehari" because the vehicle seemed more open and quieter than the other car options. That decision paid off wonderfully. Both of us sat in the back, and the views were unobstructed. The city is certainly not quiet, but at least we could hear each other without having to shout over the sound of the car's engine. Anyway, about the tour itself... It lasts about 90 minutes, and there is a lot of flexibility. We could choose where we wanted to, and where the pick up and drop off locations would be. We decided to do the standard let's-see-where-all-of-the-important-sites-are tour, which was an absolute blast. Our guide (Antoine?) did a great job of explaining all the important - and some of the not-so-important - details, and took us through some side areas we probably would not have found on our own. When it was all over, he dropped us off at Place Vosges and we continued our adventure in the Bastille area. If you can fit it into your budget, the private tour is worth the extra expense. For 90 minutes, it's just you and your guide exploring Paris. Magnifique!
