Quite basic in its decor, food and ethos, Pronto is unfussy, unpretentious, and doing a good job of being a friendly coffee shop. Unlike some other coffee establishments along Gloucester Road, it doesn't make a big song and dance about fair trade ingredients, recycled napkins and community responsibility (all marvellous things, of course, but some places don't half bang on about it), and instead simply focuses on providing efficient service and good honest grub.
It's got nice big tables, and some seating out the front, and everyone working here is calm and clearly hard-working. There's none of that irritating shouting out of orders and loud coffee bean grinding that goes on so often elsewhere; Pronto manages to be a quiet, yet quietly very busy and successful, cafe.
I'd definitely recommend this place for a simple and cheap lunch or a quiet coffee break when you're out and about on Gloucester Road. There are other places along the road that are livelier, sure, but if it's a bit of peace and a classic cafe atmosphere you're after, give Pronto a go. read more
