We finally visited Proud Larrys... we have been meaning to for a couple of years. We ordered the Alfredo pasta and spaghetti. The pastas were average while the service was excellent. The atmosphere is casual and upbeat. Much bigger inside than I could guess from the street. However, we saw the burgers and fries at other tables and realized we ordered the wrong items. Years ago this place was great! Past couple of time, awful! From the service, to the food....last time we will give them our money....took forever, after we were all done eating they finally brought out the 2 pizzas for the 3 people who got them....they were UNCOOKED, after awhile the clueless manager apologized & asked if we wanted it to go so we cook it at homeWHHAAAT? He acted like he was doing us a favor to take the two uncooked pizzas off of our bill...why they even brought them out, is beyond me! Was in Oxford for our sons graduation. We didnt have enough time to make any proper reservations so took a chance wandering around the square and scored on an outside table here! We were so pleasantly surprised at the food and service, bit were very good. My husband got the the taco salad and he LOVED it. I split a BBQ pizza 10' with my son and we both really enjoyed it. After reading reviews, I was not super excited to have dinner. Me, my daughter and her friend were coming for a Saturday night concert, so decided to eat here too. All I can say is the kitchen was on point! Our food arrived quickly, and looked gorgeous! I had a chicken bacon cheddar salad with plenty of fresh, crisp greens, beautiful tomatoes, and flavorful grilled chicken. It was served with a wedge of light airy bread, that I wasn't supposed to eat, trying to stay low carb, but I couldn't help but take a bite!....I had to give the rest to my daughter before I inhaled it!! My daughter and her friend shared a chicken pesto pizza. The crust was golden, with gooey cheese and they both said the pesto was just enough, not overpowering, and was super yum! Service was great, and the cutie taking care of us was lovely, helping us to get first crack at getting in front of the stage. I learned to drink beer at Proud Larry's. This speaks to a lot of things that are great about this place - large beer selection, lots of cool ones on tap, and a safe environment in which a newbie can expand horizons. (Note - I was of age - just a latecomer to the beer party. Larry's checks IDs, as any institution on the Square does.) The casual bar food is usually a hit. My favorite was always the quesadillas and pizzas. Proud Larry's manages to book some of the best acts coming through the city, and supports the very vibrant local music scene well. This is my go to place to eat when I come to Oxford! Never had a bad thing on the menu.

I have to give this place 5 stars. We were in Oxford after a 10 hour drive, and chose to nap instead of trying to hit the square early enough to get into places like Boure, City Grocery and the like. After being turned away from both of those places and Old Venice, we spotted this place, and I am so glad we did. Proud Larry's is an Oxford classic and, of course, was packed on a Friday night at 7:45 pm on the eve of a big game + parents weekend. We waited for only 15 of the 60 minutes they told us, and the service did not skip a beat! Drinks came out IMMEDIATELY, our appetizer came out quickly, and our dinner was perfectly timed. No waiting around for food like "well I know it's busy tonight but..." We were delighted! Special shout out to our waitress, Mary!! She was so nice and I mean SERIOUSLY on point!!!! And the food...A++. While of course it is not the BEST pizza I have ever had, it was certainly delicious and I loved being able to "make my own" - that being said there were at least 10 specialty pizza menu items...all of which sounded loaded and awesome. They even offer thin whole wheat crust as an option! (We were not concerned about our health this night, so we got classic hand tossed!) My sister and I shared a 10" pizza with pepperoni, jalapeños and avocado - perfect size and neither of us left feeling overly full, but just right. Trip got the chicken pesto calzone, and after my bite I can conclude it was damn good. VERY well priced wine and specialty cocktails rounded out our experience and we were able to get out of there for under $100! (This may seem like a lot, but without alcohol our total would have been less than $40 after tip...haha!) Tips: get pizza or any of the pastas. This place offers a variety, but Italian is where they shine. Also, if you are looking for a quick buzz, get the Lucky Larry cocktail. Warning: caffeine and alcoholic content abound! This used to be one of the main music venues in town and they were the best Oxford bar for a long time but they have gravitated towards more of a restaurant focus than a bar/music focus. Summer used to be a fantastically fun time here but on a recent visit they were closed by 10pm every night I was there. They have a tiny little patio you can sit at outside and they make decent food but sadly it seems this place has its better days behind it when it comes to music. read more

I don't know... I wasn't too impressed with this place tbh. I tried getting the Shrimp and Grits and they were all out of shrimp! Then I tried getting the Salmon and Quinoa and they were all out of salmon too! I asked my waitress (who didn't seem to know much about selection in general) what she would recommend since I wanted to get something unique to this restaurant, and she recommended the burger and the grilled chicken sandwich... both things that I can really get anywhere. Not very attentive (we had to ask for them to take our order and for our checks). I've been here about a half dozen times. As a few other reviewers have suggested, the food is definitely hit or miss. The catfish has sometimes been good, but the sweet potato fries are totally hooked up. I spilled a drink tonight (clumsy, not drunk). The bartender didn't even bother to ask if I wanted another drink (after wasting $10). As for the music venue, Larry's gets some good groups in the house. However, everybody is rock concert ear-splitting loud, which seriously subtracts from MY enjoyment. Guessing that part of the problem is the acoustics, which nobody has thought to address. read more

Great food, perfect atmosphere, consistent service! I love the variety of food here! The jambalaya pasta is by far my favorite, but the burgers, pizza, and appetizers are always great. There is live music on the right nights (Thursday-Saturday) and the outside seating is quaint. Our server was so charming and accommodating. This place is sort of difficult to rate. Basically - It is what it is....an Ole Miss college hang out with so-so food and drinks that are sometimes ok and sometimes not. No matter where I go, if a restaurant has catfish or fish tacos on the menu I gotta try 'em.....and to be honest I've had a great catfish sandwich at Larry's. I've also had so-so food there that's not worth mentioning. Prices are average (for the Oxford area), but not cheap. The place is not all that clean, but for the most part college students drinking beer really don't care much about that. Service is mediocre at best. Not sure why such a poor service attitude permeates this place, but it's certainly there. It's almost as if the customer is an inconvenience. I'm also not a fan of businesses that sort of push their personal political or social agendas (subtly or openly in any direction). And unfortunately Larry's has been known to do this. They're obviously quite left-leaning, and it's unfortunate that they choose to do that. read more

I know one bad visit can be random but still is a bad visit. We got bad service. The waiter was friendly but got our order wrong twice and blamed the kitchen. A made no attempt to discount our meal or offer us anything for they extra 20 mins we had to wait on top of the first two minutes. Come on guys you know better then this.
