AMAZING! I've lived in college station for 2 years now and I never thought to check out a place in downtown Bryan. But let me tell you not only is downtown Bryan so historically unique, proudest monkey is the epitome of it! I've been here now twice and I have ordered the BBQ espresso tacos, it's a twist on their ranch hand taco. The meat almost melts in your mouth and the spicy mayonnaise sauce is amazing. I definitely recommend college students and residents to try this cool place out! read more

Heading through town on our way home, we stopped in at the Proudest Monkey for some lunch. This place is great! TVs at each table. Great beer list. Great food. Awesome service.Cool vibe. I ordered a hamburger. My kiddo ordered some tacos. And we spilt some yuppy fries and salt and pepper fries. The food was fantastic! As soon as I walked in I knew this would be a one of a kind experience. The place is located next to the Queen movie theater and has that awesome old-timey look that makes you feel like you stepped into someone's favorite part memory. We ordered the pulled hammie, the cuban and these amazing fries that I cannot even begin to describe! Okay, well this is Yelp so I'll describe them as fries with a very nice spicy sauce. I ordered them right next to my Cuban and was not dissapointed. I had the wonderful lunch and then ordered seconds. I also recommend the License to Krill. I'm not a full on seafood fan but this one makes you wish that you were. Overall the location, look, feel and flavors of this place were very much spot on! I WILL be seeing you again Proudest Monkey! I am so glad we found this place! It truly is a unique yet simple restaurant! It is a great location with brick walls and TVs at every table. I didn't make it to the bar this trip but I did get a "create your own" burger and our group split the regular fries and sweet potato fries (both ordered "dirty") with monkey sauce! Ordering your fries dirty meant they added salt, pepper, and sugar on top (to die for!). I'm not usually one to do desserts after dinner but as a group we went with both the strawberry shortcake (served on twinkies) and the ice cream sandwich topped with whipped cream and fruit. Simple but so yummy! I was able to snap photos of these before we devoured them! Again, very simple but done so very well! The only "warning" I would have to give you is that you WILL leave extremely full. That, however, is exactly what we were looking for! I will most definitely be going back! read more

Servers were doing all they could to handle the crowd, but they might have run out of portabella mushroom for my mushroom burger, which was served on a hard, stale bun and had only 2-3 small mushroom bits inside. The place is very, very small and could barely accommodate 30 people. I'm guessing it was an off night, since they were so crowded. I appreciate how hard the servers were working, but I probably wouldn't return. read more

Fries are the main reason to some here! Seats are limited beer is great! Mixed drinks make sure you know what you want and are looking for! I've come here multiple times and enjoyed everything that I have gotten. Sometimes the drinks taste like they should be a different type of mixed drink. This was one of the first restaurants we visited when we moved to the Bryan/College Station area and we kept coming back happily. While their menu isn't extensive, they do it well. They only have a few things on the menu; tacos, burgers, salads, and fries. And dessert and drinks. The burgers are perfectly fine, nothing special in my opinion. Thankfully they don't price them like they're anything special. I always did a "build your own", but my husband was a fan of some of the specialty burgers. If you get a taco, just get one, unless you're ridiculously hungry. They pile the tacos so high that enough falls out to make an entire second taco out of it. But by far my favorite are the sweet potato fries served yuppy style. You can get plain fries, or you can get them "yuppy" or "dirty" and they're all served with monkey sauce. While I'm not a a big fan of the monkey sauce, I would happily lick the "yuppy" seasoning off the floor. Just order sweet potato fries yuppy style and thank me later. The beer list is extensive and focuses on Texas beers. They also have some "dessert martinis" which is exactly what it sounds like. The reason for only 4 stars? It's far too small. Whenever a large event came to downtown Bryan it was next to impossible to get a table. They don't take reservations, there's no host, and if you have more than 4 people good luck. That being said I love the ambiance of the restaurant and would be sad if they changed venues. But with as popular as it's becoming I think it would be in their best interest to expand, and soon. read more

While I have been more times than I can count and will always tell people this is "the best burger in town" they were clearly having an off-night last night. I frequently bring takeout to my sister while she is at work, and since she's never tried Proudest chose them over Whataburger. Her beef patty, while a little dry, accompanied regular Idaho fries that were cooked to perfection. However, problems arose when it came to my "build-your-own" burger. I usually opt for the portabella mushroom cap patty, but they were out. I then tried to settle for ground chicken--also out. Exasperated, I asked the lady on the phone, "Well sh*t, I don't eat red meat so what do I get to f*cking eat?" She offered chipotle chicken, an item off the menu but that sounded fine with my other of of toppings so I was pleased. Until my sister and I went to eat. She had no complaints. My Yuppie sweet potato fries were perfect. But that damn grilled chicken substitute was significantly smaller than the bun it came on, and nowhere near as satisfying as the mushroom cap or my second option of ground chicken, which they were both out of. Again, service was great, and I'll chalk this off to a bad night. But I'm highly disappointed in them being out-of-stock of not only one but two beef alternatives in the same night, and replacing it with a lackluster, tiny chicken filet in return. read more

Came here for the first time today around 7pm with friends and showed my foreign passport to have a martini. Had great service and decided to come back later (9:30pm) with my boyfriend to have a burger and some drinks. The bartender with a beard denied to serve me a drink with my foreign passport. I love this place! They have the such a fun bar menu. Their tacos remind me a lot of Torchy's and they have a wide selection of drinks. I had the BBQ espresso taco and was blown away. I could have eaten five of those suckers, seriously! Their yuppy Idaho fries are also a great addition to a Taco. The only "negative" I have is that they didn't have a wide selection of non-ice cream martinis. I've been on a martini kick lately and wasn't impressed with the Bronx. With this whole coronavirus going on I have been wanting a good burger that isn't whataburger or Burger King . Well this place solved my whole problem !!! Ordered 2 burgers and a large fries for my boyfriend and i at around 7:30. Went to pick up by 7:45. It was nice and fresh. We took it to a park and ate there and everything was still so fresh and hot ! Amazing ! And the burgers are perfect ! Great size ! Good fresh veggies in it. I ordered the chuck norris or something. We went there for a friend's birthday one time. I have heard that they had really good fries so I ordered that along with a burger. The burger wasn't filling at all but it tasted really good so I give them that! The speciality fries we got were topped with sugar and it was a bit too sweet and the flavors didn't mesh well. The place however does serve very tasty drinks. We waited a long time to get seated and there weren't enough chairs which I understand since it's a bar...so I used one of the high stools. However the problem was the fact that we waited about 30 mins just for the server to get our orders and then much longer to get our food. read more

The food here was really good. The dirty fries were fabulous, sugar goes good on everything! We ate outside and really enjoyed ourselves. However, the owner was kinda a jerk. We had already placed our order and was paying when this event happened, or we would have walked out a left. We heard the lady that took out order on the phone. She mentioned to the owner that she was on the phone with a group helping with first responders and wanted to know if they could call ahead an order of about forty burgers for tomorrow. The girl talking to them told her boss they were for first responders, the firefighters and police officers, her exact words. The owner looked and her and goes "We don't do call ahead orders" Like really? With everything going on right now you won't do a call ahead order for first responders? Came here and there were 2 other tables. Servers were quick but drinks were slow. Like order a drink and get it 15-20 minutes slow if not longer. We asked for one drink then the check. The check was done In 2 minutes but we are sitting there waiting on a drink that was paid for. We should have known better because after 20 minutes, yes 20 minutes, the server said that the manager would take it off. So we assumed this drink would be comped because of the wait. It wasn't. We asked for the drink and was told the manager said he would take it off or we can wait. It was frustrating. We waited for a drink and when the manager brought it to us. He made excuses and was trying to lecture us about his problems. We already paid! Finally. It was said that he came to grip at us for waiting so long then he can leave so we can enjoy a drink and good conversation. Yeah, no. Won't be back. I understand the struggle of trying to get employees, but in a college town. Students are always looking to serve and bartend. Back of the house positions are tough to fill. Still consistently good fries! They've started adding olive oil to the yuppie fries, which I don't remember being on them years back, so I order them without because it doesn't add anything except greasiness. Fries are greasy enough I ordered an Old Fashioned tonight and it wasn't good- I would definitely avoid that. Tasted like bitters and Maker's Mark with nothing else, despite the muddled orange and maraschino cherry in my drink. I've never had a cherry be muddled into my drink- it's not for me. The service was really slow and it seemed the wait staff was more interested in talking to the bartender and playing on their phone than checking if our drinks were ready, if we needed a refill or a water, etc. That was disappointing. I'd still go back for fries and ice cream martinis as long as I had plenty of time to wait. read more
