Recently, I took part of the Providence Ghost Tour. It was great. Courtney, our tour guide and owner was full of information, stories and tidbits regarding the history of Providence and some of its famous ghosts who actively still make themselves visible in the area. The tour starts and ends at Prospect Terrace Park, right by the Roger Williams statue. It is about 90 minutes long and it does take you around several sites around College Hill where you will hear stories about lovers, soldiers, poets and many other who have died and have stayed behind as ghosts. I had a wonderful time on this tour! I attended this tour in late March or early April 2024. Our tour guide's name is Kelly. I liked that she was dressed up in a costume and was a wonderful presenter. I've been on ghost tours before and this was my favorite! The tour starts in a park dedicated to the founder of Providence, Roger Williams. The park offers wonderful views of Providence. Especially at night! The tour will take you to several places in old town Providence. Some of the stops are the Athenaeum, AnnMary Brown memorial, a famous street in Providence that Edgar Allen Poe walked on and where some have seen his ghost. There are many more stops. You will do a good amount of walking and stopping. Dress weather permitting and be prepared to take plenty of photos! You may have the opportunity to capture a ghost like I did. I recommend reviewing your photos after you get back home and if you capture any ghosts in your pics, email Providence Ghost Tours. They will be happy to hear from you! Looking back on all the pics I took, it brought back a lot of memories from this tour. I was so happy that I attended this. This was mostly an alternative history of Providence/storytelling tour, but that was fine by us. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience & wish Carson, our tour guide, the best of luck! It was only their third time hosting the tour, & they did a wonderful job. Their outfit, especially the dashing tailcoat, was one of my favorite parts of the tour. I hope they stay with the company & continue to host tours. The tour was about 90-minutes, starting & ending at the Roger Williams statue in Prospect Terrace Park. The College Hill streets are so marvelous to meander. On a crisp, October evening, with the wind blowing & leaves tumbling around our feet, it was extra marvelous. The coolest thing we learned was that THE Edgar Allen Poe spent quite some time in Providence with his lover, back in the day. I had no idea. This is actually for the Parasols and Pocketwatches tour, which is done by the same person. First off, she is very personable and very knowledgeable of the various buildings along Benefit Street in Providence. We were impressed with her knowledge of the area, where the buildings came from, and even some of the history of buildings. You won't get spoilers in this review. Some tips: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Make sure you use a bathroom before you start the tour - there are no bathrooms on the route, and it lasts around 1.5 hours. This is in a hilly area (to reach the start of the tour, and then to some extent during the tour). You have to be in reasonably good shape, as you'll cover around a mile or more on the tour. Watch where you are walking - the sidewalks are uneven due to tree roots, and you don't want to trip. Stay clear of traffic. This was a very enjoyable tour. We learned a lot about the people who were integral in founding Providence, and even a signatory of the Declaration of Independence. What a great tour! read more

My girlfriend and I booked a trip to Providence without knowing much about the city or its rich history. We booked a last-minute tour and were the only two guests with Courtney, our guide. What a fun spooky walk around College Hill! Our tour guide Kelly met us wearing a long black Victorian-looking dress/skirt, wearing a lace face mask (I see you covid protocols) roughly reminiscent of a small plague mask! She carried a lantern to light her way as we walked (and to help us stay with her in the tour) and a goody bag with much needed hand warmers for the cold evening. The tour was a relatively easy walk, with one of two spot that remind why this is part of town is called called College HILL! You don't need to be super fit to take the tour, but you do have to be mindful of the broken sidewalks and badly marked curbs in this neighborhood so you might need that phone flashlight when you aren't taking photos to document potential orbs, spectral faces, and other creepy things. We're residents but took our two adult daughters who've lived away for nearly six years. We loved that the tour took us to places we wouldn't normal visit - and that reminded some of us that RI had some beautiful places and some real history! This was a big win of an evening. Boo! You're in for a spooky treat when you take the Providence Ghost Tour, a lively and entertaining 90 minute romp through the ghoulish history of the East Side of Providence, RI! We did this tour tonight, and I was very impressed! As a former Ghost Guide myself in Newport, and a visitor to the Providence area for years, it was a great deal of fun to "be a tourist in my own backyard" and get the chance to go to this! It was one of those situations where you don't even realize how much new info you learn about everything from zany historical figures (Edgar Allan Poe! The Boy Governor!), to Sweeney Todd-esque stories about a curious old hospital because you're having so much fun with an engaging and informative guide. We had Stephanie leading us through the winding streets of Providence on tour, and she was excellent! Articulate, knowledgeable, and able to put her own spin on these terrifying tales, she's definitely the guide to ask for if you take the tour! I couldn't recommend her enough! There is quite a bit of walking, so keep that in mind and wear your comfy shoes! However, we had an awesome time, and it's a different and unique night out for tourists and locals alike, and a must-do for the Halloween season! read more

I couldn't have thought of a better way to kick off my favorite holiday season than with Providence Ghost Tours! The tour guides were funny, informative and provided a great way to experience Providence from another view. Starting at Prospect Park, have your cameras ready for some beautiful photo ops. The park oversees all of Providence and truly is a beautiful space. The tour continues around Benefit Street and the East Side making frequent stops at historical locations or places with a creepy history. (Queue my best Dracula laugh). I've done Ghost Walking Tours in several other cities and Providence's does not disappoint. Even local Rhode Islanders can expect to learn new information about Providence's history. Be prepared for a night of laughs, shocks and oh's and ah's of information that you never knew about Little Rhody. Sometimes when you're on vacation, it's tough to find evening activities besides eating and drinking. The Providence Ghost Tour was a great "local flavor" option that sure beat sitting in the hotel room watching TV. The $15 online ticket price seems quite fair for a 90-minute tour, and besides the tales of murder, mystery, and mayhem, it's a great way to see one of the most architecturally and historically interesting portions of the city. In late September, our 7pm tour was starting just after sunset, affording awesome views from Prospect Terrace Park. Thus it was quite dark for most of the tour, but the neighborhood was still bustling with pedestrian and vehicle traffic, which undermined the desired spooky atmosphere. It would be much cooler if the tour could start at 9 or 10...or midnight? I would be totally game for that, but I suppose that it might not be feasible. We didn't detect any spirits on our tour, but the stories were quite enjoyable and sometimes chilling; plus we learned a lot about the city and the university to boot. Oh, and at the beginning, the guide taught us the hierarchy of spirits--orbs, apparitions, spectres, and poltergeists. You never know when knowledge like that might come in handy, like writing a term paper on Scooby-Doo or some such. read more

I've been working at Brown for 2.5 years (living in PVD for 3) and I didn't know ANY of the information I learned on the tour. I found it totally fascinating, a little eerie (the appropriate amount), and I would definitely recommend it for visitors and locals alike. We went on a drizzly night, which really leant itself to the mood. The group left in shifts (the first group left EARLY, talk about kill joys), but we were in the "latest" group with Stephanie...we're like the kids who sit at the back of the classroom and have the most fun. Steph did a great job--she was clearly knowledgable, good humored, and a great story teller. Courtney, the tour operator, also jumped in for a spell (ha, get it?) and gave the creepiest rendition of the University Hall Revolutionary War Hospital. She'd be great around a camp fire. The best part was that they incorporated historical events with contemporary stories (last year one of the guides saw a spector, for instance, while giving a tour) and I think skeptics, believers, and everyone in between can walk away with a good experience. read more

This is a super fun way to get to know Providence better. Whether you're a local just wanting to learn more about your city or a visitor trying to get into the weird mystique that is PVD then you're in for a treat! The tour guides take their roles very seriously and provide (as far as I can tell) accurate historical information peppered with fun stories about ghosts and ghouls. My only advice is make sure to really dress warmly if you're going during a colder season, this can be a ridiculously cold experience if you aren't prepared! read more

The tour guide Kelly was very well spoken and acted during some parts of the tour. You walk on brick sidewalks, benefit street and up one street that is on an incline. This was an amazing tour! Stephanie used the perfect amount of history and humor to keep us entertained a full 2 hours. Even though it was freezing (dress warmly!!), I hardly noticed because I wanted to learn more. Providence is gorgeous and the walk was easy. It could be a little tricky with a wheelchair/stroller/walker, since tree roots have grown through the sidewalk in places, but no more challenging than that. I would have loved a LONGER tour with more stops and something interactive, perhaps a passport of info or the like? Again, Stephanie was absolutely incredible and knew SO much. It felt like we were old friends by the end of the tour, and she stayed after to tell us a few more stories. :) read more

Great tour around the East Side of Providence. I went with a group of Yelpers for an event and our group was about 15 people. The walking tour was an hour and a half. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of historical stories! I never knew all that spooky information about the East Side! My daughter and signed up for the Providence Ghost Tour and really weren't sure what to expect. We had a great time and were impressed with our experience. I'd highly recommend this to tourists visiting Providence or locals who want something unique to do. Our tour guide, Susan, was knowledgeable, friendly, and entertaining. She lead us on a walking tour of buildings in old Providence that are known to be active paranormally. During the tour, she told stories of strange phenomenon that have occurred in those places, the history behind the stories and background on the residents that lived (or died) there. The walking tour lasted about an hour and a half. Wear comfortable shoes - you'll be climbing a lot of hills and walking on uneven pavement. Quite unexpectedly, my DSLR caught some vey compelling blue orb-like images that defied logical explanation. I've taken over 10,000 images on this camera and never had anything strange like that happen. I'm not a believer or a non-believer, but I can't explain what showed up on my camera. Even the tour guide was impressed with them!! At $15 for an hour and a half, it was a terrific value for a historical walking tour-- even if you don't capture any cool images like I did. This was the second time I've gone on this tour and it was just as fun as the first time. Tonight a group of friends and I embarked on a 90 minute walking tour of Providence exploring many of the historic and haunted sites along the way. New England is rich in history and paranormal activity, so there's no shortage of folklore and spooky stories to share. We departed Prospect Terrace Park just as the sun was setting and thoroughly enjoyed our time with our guide, Erin. She was witty and whimsical when sharing her stories with us. She projected loud enough for the entire group of 16 to hear and used descriptive imagery when relaying her stories to the group that totally sucked us into the moment. The tour allowed for several opportunities to stop and rest which allowed us to catch our breath after navigating some of the well known hills that dot the college hill section of this beautiful city. Many in the group remarked at how pretty this neighborhood is, and even though we drive past these buildings during the day, seeing them in this light provided a new perspective. I'd wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone who likes history, appreciates the paranormal, or is simply looking for something interesting to do in Providence. read more

My friend and I went to Providence for a girls' weekend and when we saw this was something we could do during our time, we booked it right away. We had the best tour guide (shout out to Stephanie!) who really captured our attention and imagination with her detailed and fascinating story telling. I had taken this tour a few years back, and it was pretty solid. Our guide was decked out in the black lipstick, ripped fishnets, and a black cape. Ultra-goth. She was pretty well-versed in the history of this New England town, and she quoted Edgar Allan Poe a few times. (He still spooks the streets of PVD). There is one dark and mysterious spot where the batteries on phones and cameras simply die. (No worries though. They come back after you leave the area with all the energy that kills the batteries.) My friend Carol and I love ghost tours. We were not sure what to expect but we were looking forward to it. Nikki was awesome. She was our guide for the night. Nikki was very knowledgeable and very entertaining! She was funny and held our attention for an hour and a half! We learned a great deal about Providence and it's history as well as some pretty cool paranormal activity in the area Of Rhode Island school of design and Brown University.
