I was seen by multiple doctors on my first day and had an incredibly large (almost too large - it was impossible to remember names) care team. Not a single person was unpleasant or difficult to work with. Truly an excellent team all around. The facilities, on the other hand, were a bit lacking. Sure, I'm not expecting a 5 star hotel, but the bathroom in my room was a little grimy and they definitely could have made the common areas more enjoyable (eg more communal seating around a TV, some games or books out for entertainment, etc). There was truly nothing to do during down time besides lay in bed and stare at the ceiling. It's a shame because they even have a little free library downstairs in the main wing of the building where they could take/trade books if needed. Of the (unfortunately many) psychiatric wards I've been in, this was by far the worst in terms of opportunities to entertain yourself in between groups. The groups, however, I found were nicely varied. For example, we had pet therapy one day, an exercise group another, a relaxation group, and so forth. It definitely cut out some of the monotony I've experienced elsewhere when every group is some BS about coping skills or CBT/DTB. One major plus I found was that the food was good, exceptional by hospital standards, and you could order your own meals from a fairly expansive menu. Overall a pleasant enough experience, relatively speaking. They should be impressed with their employees in particular.

Temperature was taken at the entrance and masks were mandatory. Took token and waited in the lobby to be called. The check-in process was smooth. The reception staff was polite and welcoming. All the Patients for Radiology, lab and Urgent care were seated in the same lobby maintaining distance. The waiting area was full on a weekday morning. Waited to call my name for the lab work and the wait was forever. They were extremly slow and took nearly 1 hour to be called. But lab work was quick, done in 2 minutes. RN I encountered was helpful and prompt with the care. I hardly felt a poke, she was warm and pleasant.

I`m no expert on how hospitals are run but I can honestly say from my eyes they are a top notch and well run hospital. Let me add the hospital is also spotless every time I go. I am now 6 treatments into chemo therapy and I have nothing but good things to say about my experience. The chemo nurses are great. Let me add the Canton facility is the same.

It didn't even have a chair and I finally had to ask my doctor to get one in because of my back hurting so bad from laying down since I have hardware in it. What got to me was how uncaring some of the staff were, especially the night nurses. One even yelled at me and my roommate. I didn't even get a menu until the 2nd day when the really kind and professional nurse was on duty. I was told they didn't have heated blankets but he got me 2. I had to call multiple times just for a glass of ice until that day nurse. While they have a good selection of choices on the menu, when I was so nauseous, I had a hard time finding anything. I even had a gew meals ordered for me by the staff who didn't give me a menu. I excepted better.

Future jobs are not honoring my diagnosis as a disability. Although I am a healthcare professional and a former employee. (1 Star) - Traumatizing Experience at Westland Community Center ER and Garden City Hospital…read more As someone living with multiple chronic illnesses--including rheumatoid arthritis, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, migraine disorder, and psychogenic non-epileptic seizures--I unfortunately have to visit the emergency room from time to time when my symptoms become unmanageable. I don't enjoy being there, and I certainly don't choose this life. After feeling extremely unwell for several days, my mom called the Westland Community Center Emergency Department ahead of time because I had previous negative experiences there. She was reassured that there was a compassionate physician who was experienced with patients who have complex medical conditions. Initially, things seemed promising. I was taken back quickly, had blood work done, and my labs came back normal. However, everything changed when the pelvic exam began. I have a history of sexual assault, and I am also a virgin. Without warning or any trauma-informed communication, the speculum was inserted in a way that was incredibly painful. I began crying immediately and repeatedly told the doctor and staff that I was in too much pain to continue. I begged them to stop and asked if they could give me something for the pain before trying again. Instead, I felt dismissed and was repeatedly told to stop moving and push my hips toward the edge of the bed. The exam continued despite my distress. I even noticed some bleeding afterward. It was one of the most traumatic medical experiences I've ever had. Although the tests came back negative, I was discharged still feeling extremely ill and lightheaded. While waiting outside for my mom to pull up, I sat on a curb because I genuinely felt like I was going to pass out. During that time, I felt that I was treated without compassion by security personnel and members of an EMS crew who told me I needed to move or police would be called. As someone who was visibly ill, I found that interaction deeply upsetting. Shortly afterward, I collapsed in a Burger King drive-thru. Thankfully, several kind bystanders helped me and called 911. The responding Westland EMS crew that transported me to Garden City Hospital treated me with kindness, professionalism, and respect, and I sincerely appreciate their compassion. Unfortunately, my experience at Garden City Hospital was disappointing. I felt that once staff reviewed my previous emergency department visit, assumptions were made about me rather than taking a fresh look at my condition. As someone with documented chronic pain disorders, I often feel like I'm viewed with suspicion instead of compassion. I felt as though I had to constantly advocate for myself before my pain was taken seriously. The physicians recommended admission for pain control, but I declined because of previous hospital admissions where, in my personal experience, my pain was not managed effectively. I also recently started a new job and was trying to avoid another hospitalization unless absolutely necessary. This experience left me feeling traumatized, unheard, and discouraged. Chronic pain patients deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion, and individualized care--not assumptions based on how often they seek emergency treatment. While I absolutely believe people struggling with addiction deserve compassionate medical care, I also believe patients living with severe chronic illnesses deserve the same level of empathy and respect. I will be filing formal complaints regarding my care because I believe my concerns should be reviewed. My hope is that no other patient--especially someone with a trauma history or complex chronic illnesses--has to go through an experience like this.

My wife has a level 9 pain and we were told to rush to the ER. They promised to get her some Tylenols while we waited and it's been over an hour and they seem bothered every time I ask for an update on the Tylenol. The employee who we are dealing with is Claire T. She refuses to give us updates or a Tylenol and seems annoyed every time I ask. She suspected I took a photo of her and within minutes a PA, an RN and multiple security personal were available to address this "pressing" issue. They couldn't find anyone to get my wife a pain killer for over an hour or see us for 5 hours but had no problem providing an RN for over 20 minutes to discuss their policies relating to photos. I do not recommend this place. Other ERs in the area don't have wait times and are much more helpful. Update: it's now 6 hours and we haven't seen a doctor yet. Update: it's now 7 hours and we have yet to see a doctor

Every single time we come here it's an obstacle course to make a payment. First of all, you cannot pay your co-pay on site you have to go to their website which doesn't always work or you have to call and it's a 20-30 minute ordeal every time. They also keep sending us bills saying they have not been paid by our insurance company when they have been. They keep contacting us but they need to talk to the insurance companies. I know the main hospital is awful but I thought I'd give this new place a try, but we've decided ultimate will. We are not coming back
