How do you even review a parking garage? You pull in, park your car, and hopefully don't think about it again. In that sense, Providence Place Parking Garage does exactly what it's supposed to do. One thing I do appreciate is how much better it's become over the years. The garage is well marked, it's easy enough to find your way around, and there are plenty of spaces most of the time. If you're visiting during peak shopping hours or around the holidays, expect to spend a little more time looking for a spot. That's pretty much unavoidable. The first two hours of parking being free is probably the biggest selling point. It's perfect if you're running into the mall, grabbing lunch, or using it as a place to park before walking around downtown Providence. It's hard to complain about free parking in the city. Getting out can be a different story. I've seen lines back up at the exits, but honestly, that often seems to come down to drivers fumbling with the payment machines or hesitating at the gates more than any flaw with the garage itself. Once traffic starts stacking up, it slows everyone down. At the end of the day, it's exactly what it claims to be: a parking garage. It isn't especially memorable, but it serves its purpose reasonably well. You can usually find a space, the pricing is fair with the free two-hour window, and it's conveniently located. Not much more you can ask from a place whose only job is to hold your car for a while. read more

This place is an abduction just waiting to happen. Better signs would help direct people where they should park to have easier access to the areas they need to go; especially if you are going to return to your car after the stores have closed. P1 (near Boscovs) looks like it's under construction and it was unnerving walking in empty parts of the garage near plastic hanging sheets while cars seemed to drag race down the ramps. $2 to park for probably 4 hours- I think there was sign on the elevator that said to pay before returning to your vehicle but most of the pay machines were out of order. I lost my parking ticket in the short time I was in the mall. The parking attendant, Stephanie was very helpful in resolving this for me. I didn't see her in person but we had a real conversation, her tone and calm demeanor was a relief considering how the day was going. She even looked up my license plate while her computer was giving her troubles and listened to me vent a little about the day with my daughter, coming from her after school eye appointment, headache, cramps and a quick trip to the mall for Starbucks and then leaving right away because of her period. The board clearly states that this is free for 0-2 hours. I stayed for 2 hours and 0 minutes and they charged me. The lady on the help phone had zero care. If I didn't have a baby in the car I would have stayed put until they raised the barrier. read more

I think this garage is not too hard to found your car as many others commented before, but their system needs a lot of improvement. Being park on a large garage it's better take a picture of the nearest location sign (example: L1 ROW 70 NORTH GARAGE). However, when parking near the outer part of the garage, there is lack of such signs. Those signs are only found on the inner part of the garage. Base on others comments, those payment machines are not working, which I experienced. I tried look for all those machines on 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor but all post the out of service sign. I stopped a mall security ask how should I pay and she said I can pay at the exit so I attempted to do so. However, by the time I move my car to the exit, I saw the exit gate had already opened and a staff was standing next to it, so we simply exited without pay. Looks like beside their machines are not working consistently, they are lack of communication also. read more

I find this garage hard to navigate and always end up entering through the wrong door for the store I have to visit. I like to eat a Cheesecake Factory from time to time and got lost with the construction of the garage and that section being closed. I was stuck in gridlocked traffic in this horrendous parking garage for 4.5 hours today. They refused to open the bars and let people go, instead made up a story about how it was the communities fault we were stuck there. Left people sitting in there with no regard to safety hazards, medical crisis or the possible fire hazard. Called security, was told they could do nothing. Called this absolute joke of a company, was told they could do nothing. My father used to manage a parking garage and if this ever happened they would have raised the bars to let people go and alleviate traffic. Instead they had no empathy or regard for anyone. They chose to be money hungry. I was only legitimately parked for two hours, and was stuck in traffic for 4.5 hours, yet was charged for the full 6.5 hours because they refused to take any accountability for the nightmare they created. If you want to lose your mind, take a trip through this garage. Seriously, I hope someone got fired for drafting and bringing this mess into existence. It hurts me to say this, but if you are taking the train or going to an event at the convention center or visiting Waterfire this IS a really convenient place to park. Pro tip: The North garage is significantly easier to navigate through than the South garage. To make sure you don't get lost, park on the same level each time you visit. No need to pre pay for your parking ticket before leaving the mall if you are paying with a credit card, you can go directly to the gate and swipe your card there. read more

We parked our car. Saw a sign that said STAIRS and EXIT nearby. Went down. ("Nice night, we are early, we can walk around outside.....") The stairs smelled of urine, trash everywhere. So, one flight down we tried to exit the stair well. Door was locked. ( "Fine, we'll block our noses till we hit the ground floor"). Doors to the street were locked. This garage is a confusing maze and horrible. What's worse, my wife and I went to the mall for dinner and a movie and parked for 5 hours. If you park for 5 hours, they charge you $15 to park in the garage! That's outrageous! If you plan on using this garage, keep your eye on your watch. If you park for 4 hours they only charge $2.00! Dismal. Confusing. Expensive. Dangerous. Crushingly disorganized. Like, beyond belief. I feel that writing a review of Providence Place Mall and docking them a bevy of stars for the garage isn't fair - the mall itself is lovely and well-kept, and obviously it's evil Siamese twin of a garage is taking away from all of it's accomplishments. So it's only fair to review the garage on it's own. Whoever designed this garage should be punished. I believe a fair punishment would be to make them drive around their creation while the masses of PVD join them, fully hangry and en route to one of Macy's many "ONE DAY!" sales. That would teach 'em. In my five years as a resident of Providence, I have seen this garage go through many attempts to sort out the disaster of the original design. Most mind-boggling is the random switch from the nationally accepted and lawful right-side-of-the-road driving to the left side. Hello? Why am I suddenly in the UK? Additionally, the seemingly random naming of floors is too confusing to deal with and beyond hope - parking on M1 or C5 or whatever the hell they are is useless, as there's no order that's easy for any regular human to remember. It's all hodge-podge. It's nonsensical. It's frustrating. I hate it. Lastly, let us not forget the ticketing system. There's one way in to the PP garage, and many ways out. Many ways out means many ticketing booths, many ways to pay, and many ways to abuse the system. The simplest way to deal with any of it is to keep your ticket hidden in a safe place in your car, and to pay by credit card on your way out. Eff those kiosks in and around the mall - by the time you actually get to the out booth, the payment could have expired as they only last for 15 minutes from the time you punch out at any of the pre-pay kiosks (that are always, always queued up to the hilt). You can pay by credit card at any out-booth, and they always work. Keep it simple and do this. If you're lucky, there's open street parking by the train station or The Vet. Yes, you'll have to pay the meter but it's so much less of a hassle than the blasted garage, even if you have to make a trip to refill it. My suggestion to the powers that be? Tare down the garage. Start over. And make it all one way, guys. read more

A few days ago my car was in a hit and run accident which totaled my left driver door in this EXACT garage , no cameras , no witnesses no nothing . And the security didn't even try to figure out what happened they don't care because it isn't their car . Let it happen to them and be all over it . I'll never be back to this mall ever and I had 3 different jobs in this mall before so I should've known first hand how horrible this parking garage alone is . Went to the movies at Providence Place on a Saturday afternoon. I thought finding an open parking space was bad. However, I was quite the surprise when it was time to leave. The garage is cramped with limited exits. Cars were lined up in both the North and South garages trying to exit, either at a dead stop or sub crawling pace. I park here monthly, sad but true. This garage is awful. All of the previous reviews are beyond accurate. I only park here because of its proximity to my job, because I get a monthly discount and because I can pay pre-tax... . The garage also has this terrible habit of closing off floors or exits forcing you to drive around forever to find a parking spot..but enough with the small talk. I am here to try to tell you a few tricks about this garage that may help you when you HAVE to park here. 1. If you can, park on the very bottom level, when you do this you are close to the exit and it is much easier to get in and out when you are not forced to sit in 3 levels of traffic. 2. If you need to park all day, and are close enough to do so, move your car mid day to cut costs. Paying $2 twice is much cheaper than the alternative. 3. For commuters, there is a carpool option, talk to the people in the parking office and they will provide you the paperwork for a low monthly rate, once you are signed up the NEVER check if you are really carpooling, just saying. 4. Keeping in line with the dishonest things I have seen in the garage, if you follow the person in front of you close enough two cars can exit, I have never done this, but I have seen SO many others do it that it makes me giggle in a way. Whenever possible, I park and walk a few blocks to get into the Providence Place Mall, or walk up the stairs from the river basin during a dinner at Waterplace Restaurant, specifically to avoid this garage, and the $2-plus one pays for the privilege of winding through it. My days of living at The Promenade and Waterplace Apartments made it easy to avoid this monstrosity that Man - really, mind-numbingly stupid Man - hath wrought. The garage's harrowing, befuddling floors are filled with danger (drivers treat its blind curves like a Daytona 500 qualifying track, and it's a proven fact that homeless people have lived in its dark corners), and confusion (The "exit" and "detour" instructions seem like someone's sick idea of a joke. I can't tell my "Stateside" from my "Cityside." And after all these years, you think I'd have a vague clue where I'll be spilled out when I finally emerge into daylight?). The fact that I've never experienced a fender-bender here, been mugged, or gotten swallowed into the vortex of this place, never to be seen again, is a bit astonishing. On a scale of 1 to 10, Providence Place's Parking is quite possibly a zero. Paying at least $2 for parking in a building that's nearly impossible to navigate is sacrilegious, in my book! If this was bustling New York, I'd maybe let this slide. But not in tiny Providence! And I know, I know....it helps city revenue. But I actually avoid that mall because of the charge! Why not drive an extra 10 minutes and go to Warwick, where there are tons of stores off Bald Hill? Plus, not to mention the hustle and bustle of making it out of the mall within 15 minutes of paying! For any newbies, take note of where your car is (don't get lost!). And btw, did you know many of the mall retail workers have to pay for their daily parking, as well? Seriously, could you have designed a more complicated parking structure? There are many reasons to dislike this parking garage that is attached to the mall but I think the one that makes everyone irritated is that you can't validate your parking. C'mon. Some of us spend hundreds of dollars shopping here and we can't get the $2 covered for parking. That's just silly. And why does this parking lot seem to attract people who seem to never have used a ticket machine before? People are sitting there holding up the line preventing any of us from getting out because they can't figure out how to follow directions or how to use a credit card. Forget parking here during waterfire. The entire structure becomes a mad house. Before the redesign of the directions, the parking lot forced you to drive on the wrong side with confusing directions causing people to get in all sorts of a tizzy. Now at least the flow is a little better but yet people still seem to not be able to read signs. There are two wings to this structure which you can get to from either side but the side closest to the capitol building is generally the least used. If you're going to the movies, don't kid yourself and park on the ground floor. Take the time and just go to the top. It's much easier that way! read more

This mall has made clear to me they DON'T CARE or value its monthly pass holders: Get this: You pay $172 a month to park in a dirty, crowded, confusing garage where your goal is to get in and out as quickly as possible. I don't work in the mall but rather downtown, so everyday I try to park on the ground level (level B) to make my walk to work as quick as possible. Now this mall is trying to tell the very people who pay the most to park here where they can and can't park to make the mall "appear" less crowded to shoppers. They're forcing people like me to park on the floors that nobody else wants to park on (C, 1M, 2M) that are the farthest away from the ground level, and we already pay $172 a month for this privilege. This is a new policy they are trying to enforce on the monthly pass holders. Did they stop and think about the effects this would have on their overcharged parking pass holders, many of who work in the mall and have to pay just to park at their work? No? Do they care if this will make people's commutes longer and more difficult as we are now being forced against our will to drive to higher levels in the garage to park, then walk down a few more levels to the ground floor to exit the mall and then walk to our offices downtown? No. They have made clear to me that they are just greedy capitalist pigs like the rest who don't care about the well-being of their $172/a month paying customers. Anything to make a buck. This parking garage is sketchy and confusing. True to the other reviews the experience could range anywhere from crazy to nightmare. While parking in the garage is ok as it is a one-stop solution for many things in downtown set-aside the mall which explains the craziness but it is the entrance and exit that makes it so terrible. It is gated and ticket driven and the cars trying to merge from three exit lanes on to a surface street. On a busy day/ time be prepared to be stuck in your car for 30-40 minutes and it gets tricky as the paid tickets expire within 15 minutes of paying. You would find a lot of those on busy days where the gates wouldn't open as the paid tickets have expired. While there is enough reviews about the parking garage a strong recommendation to out-state people- When parking in the garage be sure you know what floor and section of the lot you are on. Otherwise you may never find your car. Bring your parking ticket with you and pay at one of the machines before going back to the car. While paying for parking does suck, its not too too bad if you're just planning on staying for less than 5 hours for 2$. You're usually able to find a descent spot if you circle up high enough and just take your time. This is the go to place when there's a Water fire event. 0-5 hours 2$, 5-8 hours 10$, 8-20 hours 20$ and 20-24 hours 25$ read more

99% of the problem is because people can't drive the vehicle they own. It's crowded and oddly layed out because it's in the middle of a small city. If you need 10 open acres to park- go to Walmart. WRITE the location of car on the ticket, put it in your pocket. READ the (few) signs and use your brain. PAY ATTENTION. If you can't cross the street without a GPS, don't park here. Can't PARK between the LINES ? Drive a SMALLER CAR. I'd have given it 5 stars but the lighting is not great. read more

The garage is well-lit and has many different floors of parking spots to choose from. Elevators will take you into the mall from the garage, so you don't have to go down any creepy staircases like some of the other garages. Floors and parking sections are efficiently labeled so you can find where your car is! Very good price, too. I've gone to the mall for about six hours before and probably paid less than $3. Besides the crowds and pushy makeup salespeople, there is one reason I dread visiting the Providence Place Mall, and it is this parking garage. No review will sum it up as well as that of HHH, but let me just say that nothing about this garage makes sense, and nothing about it is good. For some reason, the powers that be decided that driving on the opposite side of the road would be a good idea. It is not. They also urge you to take your ticket into the mall with you to have it validated. This makes so sense, because you can keep it securely in your vehicle and simply validate it at any of the drive-through stations that you need to go through on your way out anyway. Some say they take cash, and some say credit cards only. As far as I know, none of them take cash, but they all take cards. Basically, anything a sign in the garage says, you should expect the opposite. One part of the garage is organized relatively sensibly, while the other half is god-awful. The whole thing is a disaster, and as others have said, it would be best just to tear it down and start fresh. Until then, I will be visiting Garden City for my shopping needs unless a visit to Nordstrom or Lush is absolutely necessary. read more

Despite the obvious downsides of the garage like tight corners and crowded parking... Like any parking garage. There are a lot of upsides to this place. Firstly it's rather inexpensive for parking in the city. Other garages will charge much more. I don't think I've payed more than $3 or so to be at the mall or downtown for the day. For that price it's also a pretty safe place to leave your car. I've seen a lot of broken windows in some of the lots near the g building that charge upwards if $10. Also there's the benefit of not having to park your car in a metered spot, which again is more susceptible to street traffic dangers and a maximum of 2 hours. Hey, want to feel like Jack Torrance in the hedge maze at the end of The Shining? Then park at the Providence Place mall. Instead of an axe, you'll kill or be killed with a car. You'll take at least eleven wrong turns in a garage full of soccer moms driven by their SUVs and 18-year-olds driven by ennui, who may one day make a career of pumping gas into said SUVs. We parked here for a couple of days last June, while taking the Acela down to NYC. We got there in the late morning and still had to drive to one of the top levels to find a space. The "pay inside" system was confusing. I'd describe the payment process here, but I don't remember it, so I have that to look forward to if I park there again. Holy mother of god, that was hell! OK, I read the reviews and did think "Could it really be that bad?" Hell yes, it could! I rarely go to Providence Place, maybe once every few years. Last night we needed to go to Macy's as our local store did not have an adequate selection. I don't remember the parking garage being that bad the last time I went! I don't go into downtown Providence that often to know the ins and outs of the parking situation so thought the parking garage would be my safest bet. I feel lucky to have escaped alive, with no damage to the car. I can't begin to tell you how many times we were almost hit when both driving and walking. I have never seen a more confusing parking garage. There are no clear instructions in the garage about paying other than pay before you leave. OK, how do I do that? We had to go back in the mall and walk around looking for signs. After finally paying we had 15 minutes to get out, which sounds reasonable, but really isn't when you consider what a maze it is. A common paid parking place right in middle of downtown. They have got a lot of place. Vehicles are safe and I personally never had any issue. Moderately priced considering prime spot. They accept cash and card. Reducing 2 stars as I find it a bit tough to navigate especially if you are first timer. read more

Got a yellow employee parking ticket even though I'm not employed there. Since Garden City has a lot of the stores there I switched to shopping there. First off I've never had to pay to shop. This parking lot is attached to the mall but you have to pay to park. Seriously? If you are there 2 hrs or less then it's free and pay in small increments after that. Yesterday somehow I lost my ticket. They charged me $25. Really? Done with this "mall". Locally, Warwick mall has free and ample parking and most of the stores I need. Also Garden City shopping center has ample free parking. And even better shop online, so hassle free. Even living in NY I didn't pay at "urban shopping centers" where things are congested and highly populated. Trust Providence is not that. So yeah done with Providence Mall & Parking. This place masquerades as being for the mall shoppers but apparently people also use this mall to access the Skybridge connecting to Dunkin Donuts Center and Omni Hotel and people who work and play downtown. So it's really not simply a mall lot it's a moneymaker for the downtown area. I can't see why mall shoppers, especially those spending "x" amount or more, and have receipts, would need to pay to park whether it's beyond the free 2 hours or my ticket disappeared. There are so many places that validate or that receipts are your pass. Why this rank parking lot isn't one I don't know other than it serves so many places downtown besides the mall and it's money spending shoppers. When I lost my ticket they didn't give a flip, saying basically "too bad, pay me, bye Felicia." Seriously, they were no help and soooo disinterested. Thats just bad service. Really. It's a MALL. I'm supporting you by shopping and parking. But I won't any longer. Done with this mall and the parking garage. Also the parking lot is confusing a bit, there are tight turns and ridiculous barriers.
