Multiple issues /UPDATE BELOW AS OF 7/28/2026 1. We had to have our 13 yr old Australian shepherd female euthanized due to lung cancer approximately 3 years ago. We called ahead & asked if they could do it in our vehicle so as not to further stress our girl.They agreed to do this. Upon our arrival, 2 technicians came out. One of them said that the other tech was there to learn & observe at the cost of our grief & without our permission!The trainee got between us & our pet.We asked her to move so we could comfort our pet during this time & she didn't move therefore I moved her so I could cradle our dog prior to the meds.This was not an appropriate time to be training their employees & not asking our permission.They used our grief for our dog passing away as a training opportunity for one of their techs! When we said something about it to them afterwards, they ignored us. 2nd experience: we brought in our new Aussie puppy in July of 2025 for an initial exam & vaccinations. We also at the time scheduled a spay for August 2026.Our pup has a small umbilical hernia that they said could be removed at the time of the spay for an additional $250! (Checking around, other vets charge approximately $100 in addition to the spay for an umbilical hernia procedure). We also requested a different flea/tick medication in July 2026 than the one they offered due to elevated seizures in dogs from the medication they offered.They wrote us the prescription we requested based on what our dog weighed at 6 months vs her now being 14 months! We have an over a 3 hour round trip drive and they issued the wrong medication based on her 6 month old weight.We advised them of the error & they said to come in the next day (another 100 mile round trip) & they would issue & HAVE READY the corrected script for the meds based on her current weight.They told us it WOULD BE READY & all we had to do was stop in & pick it up.Upon arrival, the script WASN'T WRITTEN OR READY & we were told it would be a 2-4 hour wait for the Dr to do the script after they'd told us it would be ready.At this point due to their poor service, lack of attention to detail, nickel & diming us,horrible front desk service & attitude, we feel zero confidence in this clinic, their staff & the veterinarian.We canceled our dog's spay & have a different veterinarian.Pryun said they'd transfer our records over the same day to our new clinic but they never did as when we arrived at the new clinic, they'd received nothing after over a week from the request. Pryun had said they'd send the records over the same day. Even after our new vet called for the records, they didn't send them.They finally sent the records to us & upon review, we found several errors in what they'd recorded about our dog! They never once accepted responsibility for their actions nor apologized. I would NOT TRUST this clinic with any pet.If we could rate them a negative review we would.They lack professionalism, integrity in terms of not listening & service. Their reviews also show not ONCE has Pryun even offered any apologies to clients. They put it back on the customer by saying "sorry you feel that way." UPDATE:we received a call from office manager, "Haley" regarding our negative reviews. She repeatedly talked over me, didn't listen, tried to shift the blame onto us & flat out lied! Per our previous notes above,we'd asked for our pet's records to be emailed to another vet in Missoula to whom we were transferring the care of our dog to. Over a week later upon our visit with the new vet, they had not received the records from Pruyn. When I asked "Haley" about this, she said that we requested they be sent to a vet clinic on Rock Creek! First off, we live off grid on Rock Creek & everyone knows it's a 45 mile stretch of a single lane road. Most of it is unpaved and consists of gravel/dirt. The only business is a fly fishing shop at the 1 mile marker. THERE IS NO VET OFFICE ON ROCK CREEK & WE WOULD NOT HAVE REQUESTED OUR PET'S RECORDS TO BE SENT TO A NONEXISTENT CLINIC! Haley flat out lied!When Pruyn finally did send our pet's records, they emailed them to us even after our new vet clinic sent them a formal request for the records! We also found numerous errors on the records and no record of our pup even being microchipped! Over 1/2 Pryun's customer reviews are a 1 rating! The reasons are the same: poor service, rudeness,lack of caring/empathy, no accountability, outright lying (even not connecting a C02 device for a pet's surgery).Pruyn is not attracting good quality staff, blames the customer, does not apologize for their errors (they instead say, "sorry you feel this way" which is code for, "it's your fault."). This is a horrible vet. They care way more about making money off their paw plans than the actual care of the animals. I had to leave after five years when the front desk ladies weren't correctly trained (stated by the front desk manager) and ended with my cat ripping her hair out from them refusing her meds they prescribed her for months. After this loss of trust and care I left after five years and now they want to charge me almost 400 dollars to pay on a care plan they pressured me to get and I've paid for monthly already. I wish I could say my experience was different then all the others on here, but sadly it's the same. I also was left in a room for over 45 minutes waiting while I was forgotten. I to was over charged for my pets meds by 200%. A $20.00 med they charged $60.00 . Also being told I have no choice but to do what blood work add on they decided, with shame and guilt for not being about to repeat said blood work every 3 weeks, just to see if anything changes. They give you no options but to use their online prescription websites that they pick. I was told 3 more times that I should bring my pet back for another full check up when they had one less then 6 months again and had been in for blood work that very day. This place LOVEs to over charge, upsell, and add on to your bill. It never felt less like doing what was best for my pet, and more like making them money. Agree with the other reviews, fabricate, overcharge, worst customer experience, lack of commitment, follow through, the unthinkable one "failed to open CO2 value during surgery" and of course the review stating "only go there if your potted plant needs help but don't take your animal"! Our experience was also WAY less than stellar, they refused to sign off on vaccines given, even after 2 phone calls, they gave false misleading information, they refused to give the vet's license number, they tried to upsell us on something not required, etc. Our understanding is they have been bought by corporation, which can equate to profit over well-being. After the last call to the office in an attempt to get them to sign off on services THEY rendered we assume they realized we were going to complain so they called us to rectify the situation and apologize. While we acknowledge and sincerely appreciate the effort put forth by the veterinarian after the fact but the reality is it should have NEVER ever happened to begin with and we will not go back to Pruyn. read more

I don't know why they have such bad reviews on here. From my personal experiences with them, it's been good. I'm here on vacation but my family takes their dog here. But I had to bring my kid in for a UTI. They sent me home with antibiotics (standard) but it turned out to be more severe and needed to be taken to the ER. I do wish the DVM talked a little more about further options rather than just sending home antibiotics. But she did listen to me and I do feel like I got good care overall! Shout out to the techs and CSR's especially. I'm a helicopter mom and they didn't make me feel bad about it and helped me out a lot. Will be returning! read more

RUN. I'm absolutely floored. The last time I used this vet was in 2018 when my dog needed surgery. I went back in two weeks later to have his stitches out and we left with a cone on. FOUR years later I see a collection charge on my account for $21. TWENTY ONE DOLLARS. I get a million emails from them, they have my cell phone number, & my address but I was never contacted about a $21 bill. All post opp care was also supposed to be covered in the itemized bill from the surgery that was paid. What a way to burn a customer and make sure to terminate a relationship. Having just heard that Dr. Card is no longer practicing at this clinic I am forced to pen a review as I want to ensure anyone who may see any of my prior comments knows that they are no longer appropriate. On multiple occasions I have driven over 4.5 hours from where I live to visit Dr Card for my dog. She is gentle, kind, extremely knowledgeable, professional and above all else ethical. Any practice that she no longer feels comfortable remaining in, is one you should avoid at all costs. I will certainly drive 4.5 hours in a slightly different direction to ensure my dog gets the wonderful care she deserves and not a factory practice only focused on profits and not on the well being of their precious patients and those patients' families. read more

The staff here is wonderful and Dr Nicole is the most caring, compassionate and personable vet I've ever encountered. My dog and I have moved around a lot, so we've seen a lot of vets. Most have been good, but she is the first one to ever taken the time to explain things to me in a way that doesn't make me feel like I'm a bother for asking. She is also the first one to ever get my anxious and reactive dog to take a treat from her during a visit. We recently did an ultrasound on my 11 year old dog and did not receive the news we were hoping for, she was so sweet and gave me a hug after taking time to explain all outcomes and options in a sincere and informative way. This is a tough review to write. Over the past 15 years we've had four dogs that were patients at Pruyn. Two of them lost their testes at Pruyn. Two of them were compassionately put down in the building, and the staff has been generally pleasant and good to our pets. This week we had a very frustrating experience. We currently have two dogs, one was a patient at Four Paws, and the other at Pruyn. Pruyn is far more conveniently located for us, and even though we've loved, and slightly preferred four paws, location was a deciding factor in deciding where to take our pets. Today we were scheduled for a routine appointment to update vaccinations, and consolidate our veterinary needs. One of our dogs is anxious (not threatening), and while we were waiting we were taken to a separate waiting room in the back of the building. I totally understand that decision by the staff. I'm sure they've had plenty of anxious dog problems in the past, and it's probably easier on everyone to quarantine these situations. The problem really started when we waited in the empty room, and then waited in the empty room, and then discussed how long of a wait was insulting. Then waited some more. Finally 43 minutes after our scheduled appointment time we decided to walk out. I asked for our paperwork for our dog that will now be transferring to four paws, and I don't think the front desk was even aware that we hadn't been seen. I totally understand that it's hard to make all of your clientele feel valued when you are running a busy business. I am a business owner myself. I know what I would do if I left a client un-attended and un-aknowledged for 45 minutes past their appointment time, I'm interested to see what Pruyn will do. On the car ride home with our still anxious, but un-vaccinated pets we discussed what we could have done with our Sunday if we hadn't prioritized getting our pets vac's updated. We also wondered whether Pruyn would make an attempt to bill us, for "not keeping our appointment time". This is the worst customer service experience I've had in years. The utter waste of time happened Sunday, and I'm writing this on a Wednesday. Pruyn hasn't even bothered to call us, and question why we walked out of the office. I see customer service replies to yelp reviews, it's too bad you have to voice an opinion on yelp to get them to notice. read more

I would like to start by saying Dr. Ivory us an excellent vet, and she saved my baby's life when he was critically ill with pancreatitis. However, I am a CNA by profession and was the only income in my household at the time, and money happened to be very tight. When I was told he could come home, I was overjoyed, until I was told unless I could cough up almost $900, they were keeping him until I could pay the full amount. Boarding fees made it around 1,000, thankfully I raised the money the next day. I know they need to get paid, but this felt excessive and slightly punitive. If your potted plant needs help -- they maybe can help but do not take an animal to this clinic anymore. This clinic is not the same since it went corporate and lowered standards to increase income. Experienced staff left, and now their best veterinarian, Dr. Shoni Card, was forced to choose between excellence or management's low standards/high profit attitude; she choose excellence and has left. Wait times on the phone can be 15- 20 minutes -- not kidding! The waiting room is often dirty, and it is too small to be safe for the number of animals that go through it. Staff turnover is high, and they are often frazzled. Management pushes services that are not necessary. With the loss of Dr. Card, this clinic has finally lost the last piece of their heart -- and they have definitely lost us as clients. read more

After making an appointment for vaccinations for a dog, and a follow up appointment and paying for them both up front. The appointment was verified 3 times over the phone and verified over the phone all 3 times that it was paid for. Upon arrival they not only charged for the shot, but charged a $35 wellness check before the second vaccination. The clinic is no longer owned by the Pruyn Family. We left our dog for a dental treatment, when we came to pick him up the doctor had removed 13!!! teeth. I don't believe this was necessary to go so aggressively and cause this much pain all at once. He was not in obvious pain when we left him. We were given pain pills for him in chewable!!! version. He is in so much pain he couldn't even drink water. He tried and then just stood still over the water bowl. And she gives him CHEWABLE pain control. The doctor is unthoughtful if not to say simply cruel. That is my last visit to Pruyn. read more

I have taken my dogs to Pruyn Vet for many years, in particular to Dr. Card. She recently operated on a pup of mine with a broken femur. I was not told after the operation that she has been fired,only that she was gone for a few day. The recovery of my pup has not gone well and then they admitted that no one on the staff had the necessary expertise, they were "in training" in orthopedic follow up. This is no longer the clinic it was when Dr. Card was working there. You fired the best vet in Missoula and replaced her with people who were not equipped to do the job. read more

My Schnauzer needed emergency care for bowel issues. I called them and they made an appointment for 2 hours from my call. Everybody was very helpful and Doctor Welch was especially great. They kept me completely informed of cost before and during the ordeal and did not seem like they were trying to get the most money out of me, but rather to give me choices. The cost were probably in line with everybody else in Missoula and I was not troubled with a sticker shock. I highly recommend their services! And most importantly they helped me cure my dog. As to an idea about cost: the exam was $85, blood work was around $110 and I had some meds. The total bill was $285 which I didn't think was very bad at all. read more

I've been taking my pet rats to Pruyn for a few years now, and she and the staff have taken care of my girls for a variety of concerns. Finding a vet who will see exotics can be a difficult thing, and I'm so happy that Dr. Card is in Missoula! The only couple of issues that I have had with Pruyn are that I always anticipate being put on hold when I call (which isn't a big deal to me), wait times in the lobby can be lengthy, and the appointments for exotics can be tricky to schedule. This second issue is perfectly understandable, there are limited hours they can be seen, it's just stressful as a rat mom. What is more important to me is the care of my pets. When I come in, I never feel like my girls are treated like less than because they are a smaller, less owned pet. Dr. Card always examines them gently and thoroughly, and always gives me clear instructions on how to care for them and deliver medications. And, when dealing with afterlife care, I am treated with so much sympathy and understanding. Which is important, because it's easy to feel like you look silly to other people when you're crying over a rat. When I move it's going to be hard to find a vet that measures up. after moving into the new location they are seeing more animals it seems with the same amount of drs. prices are above average, sentinel emergency vet was cheaper after hours than an appointment with Pruyn. Also, when they referred my sick dog to the emergency vet and promised to send results from their tests to them to have overnight care, they DID NOT EVEN SEND IT until 8am the next day. Thankfully sentinel was actually caring and did not charge us for the repeated tests that were necessary due to Pruyn lack of care and commitment to follow through read more

My first appointment with Pryun went very well. We had X-rays done due to thinking our 9 month old puppy ate an earbud. (No earbud) They called and texted later that day to see how she was doing which I thought was great. Because that visit went so well we decided to schedule her to be spayed a month later. She went in at 7:30 am, we received a call around 11:00 that she was having complications under anesthesia and it wasn't good. When we got there the vet came in and told us our puppy passed away. She then told us that the tech forgot to open the CO2 valve. "So that happened today" she said. Basically very nonchalant. I am still in shock. Still no text or call from them with more explanation or condolences. Needed to pass this information on as I would hate for anyone else to go through this heartbreaking experience. I understand we are human and mistakes happen, however this is negligence and someone should be held accountable. read more

I have been using the services of Pruyn Vet. since I was a child--sheep, dogs, cats, chickens, horses, etc. And they supported all of the 4-H and FFA emergencies during the fair. Dr. Shoni Card worked there in her youth and after obtaining her DVM, and the loss of Dr. Card basically means that this is no longer a viable clinic. There is no depth of knowledge. I recently had an emergency situation that turned into a traumatic ongoing process, with the Pruyn clinic not taking responsibility for the harm they caused to my animal. It is really disappointing that this legacy has come to an end. Dr. Card is now practicing at Animal Blessings, for those of you who are interested. read more

This place is great!!! I brought Ozzy my 100# mutt who has behavioral problems and an attitude here and they were amazing sweet. Got in right away and I literally had a list of questions for the vet. She answered every single one with and was very gentle with Ozzy. He has some lumps (she found one I didn't know about) checked those as well as swabbed his ears she gave me extra meds for his consistent ear problems and rymidol for his hips. They let you call in refills and have them ready the next day. All in all I was there for an hour it cost me 90$ and it was an outstanding experience. read more

Pros of Pryun: It's super easy to get in here, they have after-hours care, emergency service, and I haven't ever had to wait very long for my appointment, or even when I haven't had an appointment. If you need pet care right away, or need to buy prescription food, or are like me and work 8-5 and need a place that is open later, Pruyn is great. Adding after another recent experience: Seriously, you can always get in - I just had a pet emergency and if not for all the days they stay open, I shudder to think what could have happened. Cons of Pruyn: They seriously need to work on their customer skills. I had my pet in there when he was dying of cancer and the receptionist was incredibly impatient and snotty - which was really upsetting given the situation. Another time, I had left one of my cats there overnight for observation, and when I went to pick her up, the receptionist was looking at my records and said "Oh, (your pet) is deceased." I was like "Buh?" and then she said "Oh, HAHAHAHAHAHAH, sorry, that's your other pet." I was not amused. read more

I have gone to Pruyn Veterinary for almost 30 years. I understand I have a tank for a lab. The vet notified us the dogs needed their shots so we brought them in. Next thing I know I have got Dr Pruyn o. The phone and she wants hyperthyroid tests , tooth exams and a long discussion of how obese she is. After the 3rd go around I explained that I did not appreciate lecturing me on our wonderful 10 year old lab. Once again Pruyn has done an outstanding surgical procedure on one of my chihuahuas. Dr. Shoni Card yesterday repaired the ACL on my pup Ramses' back rear leg. We went to see him this afternoon and he looked and acted like a pup on the mend !!!!! He walked on his freshly repaired leg like it was never hurt !!!!! His brother Moses was in the hospital having a complete dental procedure on the same day as well. My family had a pretty bad experience with Pruyn. To their credit, they were open on a Saturday, which is how we ended up there with a dog with some complicated internal medicine issues, though the fee for a short-notice weekend appointment made it clear they aren't doing charity work. We had a few issues with our experience. The first one, which isn't major but sets the scene is that the office was really dirty. Both the facilities and staff uniforms were unusually dirty and in poor condition. Not a big deal in itself, but it fit a pattern of inattention to detail and cut corners. The vet tech who initially showed us to an exam room seemed overwhelmed by the basics. Our case involved a somewhat complicated timeline of different medications and symptoms, but she really butchered the basic facts when she tried to explain it to the vet, getting the order of events, symptoms and medications all incorrect. It was fine because we were in the room and could explain what was actually going on, but it made me skeptical about whether charts or medications would be handled accurately. The vet we met with was Dr. Schaumberg. He spent very little time examining our dog or listening to the case history. He wrote a prescription for a generic medication, told us to make another appointment, and left the room. To be fair, the medication was helpful. It took another month of testing with two much more attentive and professional vets to get an accurate diagnosis, so I don't fault Pruyn for not correctly identifying the underlying pathology. However for emergencies we have had much more positive experiences at Pet Emergency Services on Reserve St, and for regular care we like Dr. Puiggari at Alpine Vet Clinic on Orange St. Staff and vets at both places were kind and competent, and their prices were more reasonable. read more

I have used Pruyn in the past, so when my guinea pig needed help I went to them because they had such good care of my dog years ago. I looked for a place to write a review since I was so impressed with Dr. Wooten, who cares for more exotic pets, with my piggie. Even with the covid restrictions which may limit personal contact with the vet, I felt Dr. Wooten really cared about my guinea pig Jasper. Dr. Wooten was very good explaining Jaspers condition, treatment, and called very quickly after consulting a specialist on my piggies care. I felt the expense of the visit was fair, after all size is not indicative of cost of care. I will definitely use them again. read more
