This was my first time shipping a large amount of items here. I brought in a couple bags of clothes and trinkets and left within 2 minutes. They packed it all up for me and had it shipped out by the end of the day. I was a little nervous because I had never let someone else pack my valuable items but when I received the package at home, everything was so carefully protected and nothing was damaged or lost. I use Prytania Mail Services to drop off pre-paid returns and stamped U.S. Mail. They're open later than the post office, staff is friendly, and there's never a line. In terms of others' complaints about charges, I have the following advice: - Always arrive with packages taped up and ready to go (This goes for EVERY mail place you visit. Prytania, the UPS Store, Fedex, they're all going to charge you for packing and taping. The post office won't even humor you). - If you're shipping something lightweight (under 5 lbs) or media mail, go to the post office. - If you're sending something heavy, or need to purchase insurance, ship it UPS (from Prytania or a UPS store). read more

I find the rate is extremely affordable for the security of knowing my packages will be signed for and kept safe when I am at work until I can get them. The post offices in New Orleans are notoriously understaffed, filthy, and poorly stocked making one's postal experience routinely unpleasant. Thank goodness there is competition. I have always had positive experiences with Prytania Mail Services. A couple of weeks ago, we sent a document via overnight mail with FedEx. The document didn't arrive until the day after it was supposed to - NOT because of Prytania Mail (it was picked up from them the day I dropped it off), but because of FedEx. Because it was time-sensitive, we had to go to a Plan B. Incredibly, apparently FedEx would not refund the $48 fee to Prytania Mail (even though they were the ones that dropped the ball), but Prytania Mail refunded the fee on their own. I typically hate the USPS office in my neighborhood due it's snail-speed line, unpleasant employees and the occasional package that doesn't make it to my doorstep, so I have to march in there with a tracking number so someone can dig through the back to find it. This is the best post office experience in terms of customer service. They smile as soon as you're in the door and offer their assistance. They are great. GREAT. That being said, expect to pay top dollar. You just feel like you're being ripped off. And as a college student, I need every dime I can spare. I can't fork over $20 to mail a birthday package to a friend. If you can get past the prices, this place is an easy pick. read more

this Is my first yelp review ever. I would never take the time to write a post, but this place is so awful I feel it is my civic duty. They flat out stole a package from me of Invaluable baseball cards. Never did the tracking read anything other than "label creates not yet in system". they could not have been ruder when I asked for help locating the package. It had now been 4 months and I can safely say they are the worse Mail service in New Orleans. If you want your package stolen then I strongly recommend using them. this is not an isolated incident I had another Freind who mailed a pair of Air Force 1s in the Mail with them and tracking never updated. They clearly pick and choose what they want to steal when they feel the package has something valuable and your only a teenager. safe your money they're over priced and will steal from you. Oy. I came here because I was in a crunch running errands before everything closed. I learned my lesson. I enjoy supporting local business, but I can't justify spending $60 on sending a small package just a few states away. They charged me $12 for a small box alone. The staff is always pleasant, but I wish they would ask you if the price is OK before they box it, tape it and put the receipt in front of you! I've been here twice: 1. The clerk gave me 2-cent stamps for free when I showed up with a bunch of letters covered in out-dated 40-cent stamps... since somehow I always seem to miss the memo about postage going up. 2. This morning the clerk told me it would take about a week to send a package across the country and I thought "sounds about right to me, considering it took me 30 minutes to walk the 6 blocks here from my house in this sweltering heat." Plus they have AC and were playing (ww)OZ so at that moment I felt super lethargic and didn't want to leave but there's only so much one can accomplish at the Prytania Mail Services. I love this place. This is the only mail service I use as everyone here is just so NICE. Every single time I go in there it is so fast, I can be in and out in 3 minutes. I had packages I needed to be delivered in the states as well as across seas and needless to say, it added up. However, the clerk was just so nice and helped me find a cheaper way to ship it. Prytania Mail Services makes packing and shipping a total breeze. As someone who sends and receives a high volume of mail, I would absolutely dread the chore if it weren't for these guys. Despite the road blockages on Prytania and Jefferson, using them WILL save you time....so much faster than standing in line at FedEx, UPS, or the awful US Postal Service. They'll take care of everything you need, whether you require overnight shipping with a private carrier like FedEx, or are just dropping off local post. Honestly, I come here 2-3 times a week. I use Prytania Mail for everything, stamps, mailing packages home to Hawaii, buying thank you cards, shipping King cakes,pralines. It's the only place I go. It's so nice that I do not have to go to FED EX or UPS Prytania Mail can handle it all even getting my gifts in the right size boxes to ship out. This place is great because they take all mail carriers so you can make all your returns in one place. However, if you have to pay for anything it is a complete rip off. I once came in with a return package that wasn't taped and they charged me $2 without even telling me it would be a charge before they taped it. Once I bought my own tape I continued to go there to make returns, so i decided to continue my business and ship a large package there. I was charged $103 for a box of pillows. Their formula for shipping large packages makes zero sense and it would have cost me half the price to ship with UPS. I do not recommend going here and would highly encourage anyone to choose an alternate place to ship packages. read more

one star for nice service, although that's not even consistent. negative 4 stars for price. i need one box to get across the country. it needs to be packed (it's a framed picture). they quote me about $85, which is about $30 for packing and $55 for "the cheapest way to get there." i think to myself, i'll go pack it myself, and get a quote from ups.com to come pick it up at my house. i packed it, saving $30. then, i ended up driving the package down the road to the ups store. it was $13 to ship it ground. why does prytania mail service think that it's ok to charge $42 to send it off? of course, they should make some profit, but that's gouging. no, i won't be going back there to ship anything ever. read more

Convenience, maybe. All I have to say is a sheet of 20 stamps costs $9.20. At usps.com you pay an extra $1.25 for shipping and handling for 2 sheets of stamps. At this store they charge $12 for a sheet of stamps. Seriously? $2.80 PER SHEET for the trouble of selling you stamps. Completely ridiculous. I am willing to pay a little more to support a local business but this is way beyond acceptable. The service was also not great. I would give 0 stars if I had the option. read more

Consistently pleasent, competent and sure to give you A+ customer service. The gentleman behind the counter always has a smile on his face and single-handedly takes care of multiple customers at once without fault. I've never had to wait long to take care of business. As for prices, at Prytania Mail to fax a page is $2.50. At FedEx Kinkos, it is $0.31 cheaper, but I'd have to drive farther and fight more traffic. I'll pay the difference for convenience and competence at PM. When it comes time for shipping items though, I would check around first. They also have stamps and cards available for purchase. read more

I have been a customer of Prytania Mail Services for eight years. I rent a box there and have been very pleased with their service. Peter and his staff address me by name and make me feel welcome. I have no problem sending folks there to ask them to put rent checks into my box. They graciously provide this service at no extra cost. It's my understanding that the building used to be a corner drug store and has been in the same family for several generations. It's nice to see other Uptowners there and feel a sense of connection to the past and to the community while supporting a local business and it's employees. I recommend that you try Prytania Mail. They are very knowledgeable about the shipping business and are nice folks to boot. read more

We have been trying to get them to ship more with FedEx Ground. He has the account to ship more with FedEx and at much better rates but refuses to let us give him even better rates than he has now with UPS. We have been trying for a long time to gain more of his business. You could have received better pricing with FedEx at Fedex.com Open an account (free), create your shipping label online, print it off and use that on your box, pay for it onine then either call for a pick up or better yet take it into Peter's shipping store and drop it off. THE FEDEX DRIVER WILL PICK IT UP THAT AFTERNNON AND PETER MAKES A DOLLAR JUST FOR HAVING FEDEX PICK IT IT UP. These pack and ship place love drop offs. THey don't have to do the work and they still make a buck. Remember, all the places that are not FEDEX owned have shipping agreements with UPS and FedEx. A FedEx Authorized shipping center (FASC) gets a deep discount from FedEx, their markup over that is what they make. Of course, that's part of the convenience you pay for. read more
