In addition to exercises to work on at home, Robert will also recommend reading material that offers further explanation about your particular condition. However, I had my first knee replacement with Dr. Raterman in 2020, on my left knee. I had no issues, so when he told me back then, that my right knee which rarely bothered me, was worst than my left which was the one in excruciating pain, I decide to go with the one I had most pain with. Then in 2023, I chose him again, and suffer through his personality, thinking the results would be similar to my first surgery since it was same doctor. But this surgery he did it with the assistant of a robot. To improve my recovery I went just like in the first surgery to a rehab center, spent two weeks doing physical therapy and then did outpatient physical therapy as well. I kept complaining to physical therapy, and to doctor Raterman, and his very caring nurse practitioner Dr. Wicker, that something felt different and not in a good way. I was in pain, I couldn't sleep if I laid on my right side. I finished physical therapy and it's documented of my complaint. I went home and continued my exercises for months, but the pain just wouldn't go away. Because of Raterman's attitude I started seen is nurse practitioner which sent me 2 or 3 different times to get MRIs done, the mechanical equipment would come out fine. It showed swelling even a year and half later, even two years later. They gave me different medications and nothing helped. I started loosing strength in my knee, I couldn't even lead with that leg to go up a small flight of stairs. If I was getting off the side walk I had to make sure I did it in a way I didn't bend that knee because I would be in tears. I started developing like lumps under my skin, like cyst. So, I decided in April of 2025 to put up with Raterman again and go talk to him, since he did the surgery. Like always is demeanor is so bad. When I started to inform him of what I was feeling, immediately, he cut me off, and said to me and I qoute" So I guess you think I have some miracle WD-40 to spray it and fix your knee" he said this with a straight face. I told him it was not that; but it makes no sense, two years later I am worse than I was before surgery. I've complained for two years in horrible pain. His answer was, unless you think it's that bad that it's worth me going in and destroying all that I did. He took it personally, it was about what he did and not about my pain. Like I said before the MRIs, shows swelling all the time. The mechanical part is fine, but something got hurt in there and I am paying the price. Raterman just gave me a referral for physical therapy again. He said there is nothing he can do, in a way so cold and uncaring. It shows he doesn't care, and I am still in pain and looking for a second opinion. I have called my insurance and informed them as well, they will be investigating. I know something is wrong, I feel it everyday. If you need a surgery, please don't go here, safe yourself the grief. Raterman, only cares about his ego. Good luck.

The practice made multiple mistakes from scheduling surgery to writing a correct prescription for pain killers. It took 12 calls over 3 weeks to get enough pain killers to deal with the nerve damage. Wait times were often over an hour to see Dr. Raterman. He never once called to express any concern for the damage he caused. The practice is working over capacity and Dr Raterman has too much ego to take responsibility. I can't run (or do lots of things) anymore, but you should run if you're thinking if going here!

I've seen countless types of doctors and physical therapists, only to find no solution. My Orthopedic Doctor got the point where he just kind of threw his hands up in the air and told me I should see someone else because he was out of ideas. That's where I found Dr. Schulak. He was incredibly thorough with my examination - performing a bunch of different resistance tests and showing me the curve of my spine on the X-rays. He was able to do something that no one else could: provide me with a diagnosis. That bad news is that I may not be able to fix this problem, but at least I know what it is now and can attempt to resolve it. Dr. Schulak referred me to nearby Physical Therapist that I really like so far, but time will tell if I can finally curb this pain that I'm having. I definitely appreciated Dr. Schulak's expertise to at least tell me what was wrong with me!

My primary care doctor ordered a MRI and I took the results to specialists who basically looked them, threw some medicine at me and sent me on my way. I got zero compassion and no one who took my escalating pain issue seriously. A friend of mine had gone to Dr. Schulak and swore by him so we made an appointment. By the day of my appointment, I couldn't walk any more. My husband had to put a mattress in the back of our van to get me to the dr. . . I couldn't sit either. My pain was to the point that I told my husband, either we need to fix this or I need to be put down. That's where I was at. Dr. Schulak felt like my last hope and honestly I didn't hold out much hope after dozens of doctors blowing me off no matter how great my pain was. . . I walked in with MRI results I had taken in Oct 2013, and this was now April 2014. . . So many months that I had barely survived and doctors dismissed me after looking at the same results Dr. Schulak put on his computer and looked at. Then he walked into my room and told me I was the proud winner of a surgery. . . He was kind. He was compassionate. He cared about my pain and most of all. . . He admitted me to the hospital THAT DAY and did the surgery the next morning and fixed the problem. He told me it was the only surgery I was going to feel better coming out of then I did going in and boy was he right. . . 2 days after my surgery I threw a birthday party for my daughter and people were amazed (In retrospect I was probably over doing it and Dr. Schulak would faint if he reads this. . . But after so long in so much pain I felt on top of the world) He saved my life. I would send my mother to him tomorrow if she needed back surgery . . . I read some of the other reviews and honestly. . . He's not a pain management doctor. He is a doctor who fixes the issue. That's what he does. He determines what the issue is and works towards helping patients live healthy lives. And yes, he told me to exercise. He told me to walk. He said I needed to do my exercises to keep my back strong and called me out when it obvious I wasn't doing them like I should. I don't see anything wrong with that . . . Like I said, he's a Orthopedic Surgeon and I went to a lot of doctors who specialized in back pain who did nothing to help me. . . And honestly, I didn't get fistfuls of meds from him, but I did get a second chance at life without NEEDING meds. . . And I'll take that any day! Also, as a side note. . . His staff is amazing too!! They were all compassionate and wonderful! They really cheered for me on my follow up visits when it was obvious I was doing so well!

My husband had surgery Dec 8, 2016. Before going in he had been having very high blood pressure, had several episodes of kidney stones, was in chronic pain especially his heels, knees, elbows & wrists, he battled chronic fatigue, sleep apnea, heart burn & extreme moodiness. Up to being on the stretcher going into surgery I requested pillows to help prop up his knees & lay across his lap to rest his hands on to try to make him more comfortable which he still was NOT. After going back to prep for surgery, have surgery & wake up in recovery approx an hour my husband was in better mood! He had his IV out & was talking. I asked him if he needed his pillows back & he said he was fine & wasn't hurting at all. When discharged a couple hrs later he was ready to eat! We went back to the hotel by shuttle & ate in their restaurant. He ate mild hot wings, blacked fish & seasoned veggies with lemonade to drink. Fasting for surgery and being about 4 pm (this is food & drink he generally can't tolerate on a normal day!!!) I was surprised he did well. When we got back to the room we played a full game of rummy with him wide awake (out of character with his usual preference to nap without being in surgery). After the game of cards he wanted Pizza so I ordered a pepperoni Pizza with great warning! But he tolerated it!!! That night he tried to get us up & on the road to head back to the Panhandle of Florida which took us 6 hrs to get there due to road construction & heavy steady traffic. When we got home he proceeded to go out to work in his garage! He has surgery less than 24 hrs ago. He has so much energy compared to before. He (we) now sleep all through the night without to 10-20 episodes of apnea that waked us up before each night. His blood pressure is now within normal limits & NO MORE bone & joint pain. He had a small growing lesion above his left eye lid for a solid year BUT it disappeared. I am hopeful he won't have anymore kidney stones. My happy, friendly husband is back! He had been missing for 12-14 yrs! This group of persons that work there were all extremely kind & informative. They answered questions I did not think of yet. The doctors are extremely confident about their knowledge & surgery of the Parathyrold. While we were there waiting for him to come from surgery we met people from New York and out West. One had previous surgery at a Mayo clinic but they were not complete in their surgery & she needed another so they referred her there. I am so THANKFUL for their practice & expertise! Worth the surgery!!!!!

I had always put it off…read morebecause I didn't want the cost associated with having to pay for multiple visits, but this "community" setting has won me over. The first visit you get a tour along with learning the rules and regulations. After that, you're on your own. You walk in (either with or without an appointment), pay at the pay station - and you set the amount you want to pay - then take a seat in one of the recliners. Okay, this part is a bit odd; you are in a massive dimly lit room with calming new age music playing. After you take a seat, the acupuncturist on duty that day comes over, quizzes you about your issues, then proceeds to place needed in your arms, hands, legs, feet, ears, and/or head. It does not hurt - there is mostly just a pressure, if you feel anything at all. This community environment, instead of having individual cubicles or offices, is what enables them to keep the prices so low. So, while you may hear snoring, coughing, whispering, etc. you are paying a lot less then you would at many offices.

They have a "pay what you can" policy that places all each session between $15-$40 and it's totally up to the client what amount they would like to pay within that range. Plus, my interactions with the woman at the front desk and the therapist were very pleasant. If I were ever to have acupuncture done again, I would come right back here. My rating is more about the service itself, and might be more of an indictment on acupuncture as a whole, rather than the business. I've had lower back and hip pain for years. I've tried everything under the sun to mitigate this pain, but nothing has worked. I recently asked my physical therapist if he thought acupuncture would be helpful and he suggested that it was worth a shot. I saw the phenomenal reviews for this studio, so it was pretty obvious where I'd be going for my first experience. Booking my appointment online was super easy, and I was able to get something that was only about an hour or so later from when I actually made the appointment. When I arrived, I was given new patient paperwork and was kicking myself when I read that headphones could be used, because I didn't even think to bring mine. However, before I was sent back for treatment, I was asked to please turn my phone completely off before leaving the lobby, so I'm not sure how one would listen to headphones when their phone isn't allowed to be one. Either way, this was not a huge issue. I received a brief tour of the facility and then was shown to my chair. I was asked to remove my shoes, socks, watch and everything in my pockets. The recliner I was asked to sit in was incredibly comfortable - that was probably my favorite part of the entire experience. When the acupuncturist came by, he asked me where my ailments were. He then gave me a quick overview of what to expect and then began poking me with the needles. He mentioned that he would be poking me all over my body, but I didn't expect zero attention to be given to my actual problem areas. He poked my hands, my arm, my head and my ankles. A few of the needles hurt going in and a few others would hurt pretty badly if I even moved a small amount. Sitting still for about 45 minutes was virtually impossible, so I had quite a few instances of accidentally moving the needles into some pretty painful positions, on accident. Eventually the acupuncturist came by to remove the needles. He asked me if I felt better. It made me laugh because it just didn't seem possible that my chronic pain of 2 years could actually dissolve after tiny needles were inserted into random parts of my body. I felt comfortable and relaxed due to the delightful chair and peaceful music that was being played, but of course it was a zero in terms of helping my pain. Does acupuncture actually work for certain problems and certain people. I'm sure. But for me and this issue, it's just not for me.
