We were super glad we checked them out because it had everything we were looking for. First, the craft selection was on point and quite ample. The NEIPA's I had were spot on. But for the rest of the group, who were not interested in beer, they also had a selection of cocktails and wine. And it was just a nice spot--yes, it was lively, but it wasn't over-bearing. I walked in after 10:30pm on a Monday and there were several small goodlookin groups of young, friendly French men around the bar which stretches square in the middle of the room. The big brown booths and more romantic little corner tables were mostly empty and my date hadn't arrived yet so I hesitated for a second in the door frame, long enough for a friendly Frenchman named Francis to make me welcome with his group, crack me up and get me seated at the bar in perfect franglais. When my charming companion did arrive the lovely waitress made us laugh in franglais too. The joyful double embrace of language is one of my favourite things about this town these days, and always, and especially when you're out late drinking pints on a school night. The pints were $7.50 - this is kinda over priced for the neighborhood I think. But the good conversation, plus the Polaroids and vintage cameras and lamps and framed intimate body parts on the way to the bathroom all made me smile and not mind it. Will be back gladly and soon!

I've never gotten food but I think they do have some. I think the side tables and high chairs aren't too comfortable but unless you show up early, you won't get the prime tables in front of the stage. It does get a bit hot inside and sometimes there is a cover charge so keep that in mind. I think the location is great for live music, the sound is clear and you see clearly.

I cannot explain how amazing this decision turned out to be. From the very start the staff was friendly and accommodating with english speakers. The dj was fantastic, the drinks were reasonably priced and made well. Special thanks to our server Deitan, He made our anniversary special and spoke with us about our visit and recommended us to great places. We will be back and we hope to visit Deitan again!

I can't speak to La Tulipe as a club since I've only been here for shows, I've seen Bluelight Burlesque productions here and recently came to see Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins of Bauhaus/Tones on Tail/Love & Rockets fame and it was just the perfect place to see them for what turned out to be an amazing show full of nostalgia and tunes I thought I would never hear live again. There's an area near the stage where those who want to take in the show in general admission form can go and stand (be careful because slam-dancing always inevitably breaks out) and tables further back where you can sit, sip your drinks and take in the show leisurely. Drinks are reasonably priced and the crowd is pretty chill. I'll have to come here some Saturday night so I can check out 80s night.

I wasn't disappointed with La Tulipe (if you don't count the remixed version of Miami Sound Machine's Conga). The music was eclectic, from U2 and New Order to B52s, Human League, The Cure, OMD, Joan Jett, and aforementioned MSM, plus a few cusp acts like Boney M, Michael Jackson (when he was still black), Deee Lite. It was like going back to my students days :). As I also spent a year in France at the time, I enjoyed hearing a smattering of hits by Les Rita Mitsouko, Niagara and Indochine. The crowd was also eclectic: with people who were there in the 80s, their kids, and those in between, as many English speakers as French speakers, I'd say. There was a pick-up vibe I have rarely seen in Montreal, but nothing overly intrusive. Still, if you are looking to hook up with someone, the chances are you could... Entrance fee is now $8, and drinks were regular bar prices. Service was quick and friendly. I'm definitely going back!
