Yelp Goes Fingerpainting In The Beer Garden - Yelpers on the loose!

Last night I discovered my new, favorite beer garden. You know it's a hidden gem when you have to…read moreuse your GPS to guide you through quiet neighborhood streets to find it. Not only is it tucked away from the noise of the busy street, but it's set in a lush Japanese garden with stone pogodas and a red, wooden bridge over a small pond of water. Add beer, fingerpainting and Yelpers to the mix, and you've got an ideal retreat to wind down after a hectic day. We sat on picnic benches and painted to our heart's content. Heidi, the owner of the mobile Fingerpainting company instructed us on how to make our masterpieces. Spritz your paper with water and spread it across the page. Add acrylic paints to your page by spraying, squirting, plopping, pressing and spreading from the small, bright containers provided. Some chose to spin their paper around to let the colors drip and form their own patterns. Others rolled up their sleeves and litterally got their hands dirty. Heidi gave us aprons and gloves so we wouldn't ruin our clothes. We could set our works of art onto a tablecloth on the ground to dry and then plop them onto a cardboad platform in order to transport them home without messing up our vehicles. Yelp Community Ambassador Jennifer J. did a fine job of organizing this creative endeavor. Thanks for the sausage and cheese appetizer and the free drink ticket. Oh, and the Yelp sunglasses were a hit too, especially since the sun didn't set until 8:30 PM. What a fantastic way to enjoy a summer evening in the Pacific Northwest. I didn't want to leave, so I stayed and ordered Pineapple Cider and a Mason Jar cheesecake from the outside bar (a converted CONEX container). I would love to come back with friends for a game night. There was a mini putt putt golf course and cornhole outside. The converted house provides shelter from the elements and would make a nice retreat during the winter months. Indoors, you'll find a foosball table, darts and several dozen board games. There's a pokestop here too. Not like you need another "lure" to convince you to come. Did I mention that this is my new favorite hideaway? Check it out, I'm certain it will make your list too.

I have to admit, when my wife invited me to the Fingerpainting Yelp Event I was not too excited. I…read moredon't consider myself much of an artist, and didn't think this was going to be a lot of fun. However, I pride myself on the fact that my opinions are not cast in stone, and I ended up surprised at how much fun I had! Heidi, the owner of Fingerpainting for Grownups, was incredibly gracious and put me at ease immediately when she said it's impossible to mess up. I tried my best to prove her wrong, but ended up with a pair of unique creations that I was proud to bring home. Even if you're like me, and a bit skeptical of your artistic abilities, I would urge you to swing out and try a fingerpainting event with your friends. And for our event, the beautiful outdoor gardens at Hops 'n Headz were the perfect location for all the fun.

Definitely worth venturing out to North Vancouver to visit this suspension bridge park! At the…read morerecommendation of our hotel concierge, we caught an easy bus ride to the park, then on the return home... we ubered to Lonsdale Quay for lunch and caught a seabus back to downtown. This was a great way to do a little of everything! As for the park itself... beautiful and clean. There is one main suspension bridge and many many other smaller ones. Being in the trees crossing all those bridges and seeing the views was absolutely worth the price of admission. They even have a small eatery in the middle of the park where you can get the best hot chocolate and otter balls. So good! My kids (13 and 15) loved this park and we spent a couple hours here!

Most people come for the famous suspension bridge, but the entire park is impressive. Walking high above the forest canopy on the Treetops Adventure gives you a unique perspective of the rainforest, and the Cliffwalk provides some incredible views for those comfortable with heights. The bridge itself is longer and higher than it looks in photos, with just enough sway to make things exciting without being scary. Everywhere you look there are towering trees, rushing water below, and stunning Pacific Northwest scenery. Yes, admission isn't cheap, but the park is well maintained, the staff are friendly, and there is much more to do than simply walk across the bridge. Plan to spend a few hours exploring everything. A must-visit attraction if you're in Vancouver and want to experience the natural beauty that makes British Columbia so special.

One of three bridges that joins Vancouver with Richmond or Granville, this is a very tall one. I…read moreknow that because I initially walked down thinking that I'd take the ferry but there was a super long queue and I decided to just walk it. That was a mistake. TAKE THE FERRY even if it means a 20 minute wait. Though if I'd not taken the bridge, I'd have missed the amazing view of False Creek and English Bay. Despite being under major construction, there was a nice wide bicycle lane, a raised pedestrian walkway and enough room for automobiles, too. The bridge is a steel truss style, built between 1930 and 1932. It is marked with the coat of arms of Vancouver, "by sea and land we prosper". I think that's cool.

I love this bridge!…read more I daily walk along the seawall from Cooper's Park toStanley Park (usually way beyond Prospect Point), and in Yaletown/Beach area, I always walk under three bridges: the Cambie, the Granville and the Burrard. And the Burrard is my favorite by far! It's like the grand dame of the three, for sure! The bridge is stately, of cream-colored concrete, and has a lot of Art Deco flourishes. There are galleries on high for viewing and various architectural embellishments. Underneath the bridge are potted plantings by local gardeners.. What I most enjoy is the view! As soon as I cross under the bridge, I am greeted by the most spectacular view of Kits' Jerico Beach across False Creek, Sunset Beach straight ahead, and water opening up to the ocean, with mountains serving as a majestic backdrop. It's just breathtaking. My goal is to walk the Burrard Bridge sometime in the next month. My family and I walked the Granville Bridge, and the views from on high were stunning. I'm sure those from the Burrard are, too!
