I've been a customer with Public Power for 4 years now and the customer care is always helpful. All the bad reviews are from people who are mad because they pay no attention to the notices they are sent. Public Power sends a letter 30 days before the plan ends and it's your responsibility to call them and see what the best offer is. I would definitely recommend Public Power. they have great rates and even when there is an issue with a rate or anything, they're always happy to rectify the situation. They overcharged did not send refund check. I've called multiple times no one can seem to give me a straight answer about the check ! Constant run around and continuously beat around the bush giving answers that do not answer the question or they simply don't know. Others were right, it's a big scam. A rep knocked on my front door and made a lot of promises, however, the low rate they promised to give me only lasted one month that costed 7.69 cents/kWh, and then they changed to another provider and made me pay 19 cents/kWh. At beginning 4 months the rate is 5.99 after that it raise higher than other supplier. Right now is 11.09 for three months.

WARNING: This company is a total SCAM and should be avoided at all costs. Deserve to be investigated or sued. Their delivery rates end up being double what your electricity provides. They claim to send notices of rate changes but they never do. When challenged they send email copies with rate changes but these are never mailed. They produce fake notices when challenged. Women called today to "help" me because she said my switching to another company would cause me to be charged a cancellation fee. When I told her I was busy at the moment and didn't have time to look over my records, she got loud and rude. Told me it was going to cost me $2,000.00 cancellation fee to get out of my "contract". I have never seen Public Power's name on my bills. Should I have? I finally had to hang up on her. She left me confused and angry. All my bills have a different supplier's name on them, and they raised their rates one month after signing with them; just about doubled. Are these "suppliers" worth it? read more

After the one year initial period expires they will substantially raise your rate. The contract (which complies with the ridiculous minimum standard in the NY State law) gives you only 3 business days to respond to the renewal notice they send. read more

I'm with Central Hudson in NY state. I enrolled with Public Power in early March 2022 to be my energy supplier with a three year rate lock of 7.49 per kWH. They mailed me an enrollment confirmation saying I would be switched to them after the next meter reading which would be within a couple months. So I got a new bill from Central Hudson on June 3, 2022 with no indication that the supply portion of my bill was changed to Public Power. I called Central Hudson and they said that they never received a request from Public Power to be my supplier. I then called Public Power and got a bunch of garbage about how the enrollment could not be processed due some NYS rate regulation. I believe Public Power ultimately decided the rate they offered me was too low and did not want to honor it when it became apparent that energy prices were likely to remain high for the long term and so did not send the enrollment request to Central Hudson. I signed up for changing my current co to Public Power with a very good rate. I received a contract and was told in the letter I needed to do nothing and they would switch over. I know this is the procedure from other companies i dealt with. They never followed thru. My current supplier rolled over my account with a much higher rate, which I didn't want. Now if I wanted to change there is cancellation fee...PUBLIC POWER gave me a run around on the phone promising to call and never doing so. No warning nothing...I would strongly recommend not dealing with this company read more

I lived in my grandmother's house for a while after she passed away. I now get emails from these people directed to her name, saying "your electricity contract is EXPIRING" and that if you don't self-renew, your contract will be enrolled in an auto-renew rate. To be clear, neither I nor my grandmother have ever had anything to do with these people, have never had an energy contract, and have never provided them with my email (which means they grabbed that from some data-selling list). It's complete spam and I can only imagine how many elderly people out there would receive an email like this and think it's legit, then get sucked into the scam they're shilling.... which actually DOES enroll you in a contracted plan that supposedly "saves you money" by giving you a few free LED bulbs. I've also told them to stop sending me emails, which they ignored. Do not do business with people like this. read more

As of today, this company has 7 one star reviews and one 5 star review. Hmmm, what do you think it might be like to use this company? I did read their notice and have been trying for 2 days to reach them. When I tried the number on my bill, a recording says the number can't be reached each of the times I tried to reach this co. I tried the number on the EnergizeCT site and hung up after 19 min. on hold. I'll add my one star rating to make it 8 bad reviews and one good review. Let the buyer beware. read more

Horrible company. They auto-enrolled me from a fixed rate to a variable without notifying me. My rate DOUBLED. I called to complain and they refused to change any of the billing - even though their current fixed rate is still half the variable. Their only solution was to offer me a new contract at the fixed rate which was still 3 cents more per KwH then what PECO will give me. Shady practices from a Shady company. Complete scam...read the fine print...it says the rates are variable. I finally decided to carefully read my electric bill and I realized I was paying about 5 additional dollars to have my service generated through public power. My landlord recommended everyone in the building to switch to them because they offer lower prices, but I just checked Public Power's website and it says they have a 20 dollar refer a friend/someone you know program, so be weary of recommendations to switch to these crooks. read more

I would have given Public Power 0 stars if I could. They raised the prices over twice the amount near 18 cents a KW without notice. Switched back to Peco at least they are an honest company not like Public Power were they get as much out of you as they can. They also said they were going to do a credit which never happened. When I switched from ConEd to Public Power, about a year ago, my bills seemed somewhat lower, plus they sent some rebates for being a "valued customer." However, this winter, when gas and oil were at an all-time low, my utility bills suddenly shot up to levels that I only get in summer, when I run air conditioning. I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on, so I called them. Turns out that they were charging 2-1/2 times more than ConEd's rate (19.9 cents/mwh v. 7.4 cents/mwh, respectively) for electricity. I immediately called Public Power and told them to cancel my account immediately (which took a month), and also called ConEd to complain about these crooks. In Jan 2016,ESCO Public Power assumed a contract from another company I had signed with in October 2014. Their fix rate is much higher compared to my local power provider's flexible rate. They claim because I signed the contract, I am bound with the higher price. Their manager supposed to call me back but never did, very cold and poor customer service. I was calling Esco's to do research was given a quote of 7 cents per kWh. Once I was done doing my research, please mind you I did this all in a 20 minute span so it would be too difficult for the rates to change so quick. I called back to get that plan and then a Gentleman by the name of Pablo Stated me another quote 8.49 cents kWh. I explained to Pablo I was given a different quote he said well that's what it is. So I asked to speak to a supervisor the rep told me NO so I Demanded to speak to a supervisor Pablo said NO once again. I called back spoke with Johnathan. Johnathan said well that's too bad that is the quote Ill be ending this call now. I asked to speak to a supervisor again Johnathan said I will be put on to be called within 24-48 hours which is Bull S***. All I kept getting was run around and horrible customer service. Sleazy Ripoff! They get you to sign up for a low initial rate for 6 months without giving you any clue what the new rate will be, then raise it drastically. Unless you have read the fine print in the 7 page contract, you probably don't know that you have only 7 days to cancel after they raise the rates, otherwise you have to pay an "early termination fee". 7 days!! read more

I was a customer of Public Power for a year. One of the reasons I signed up was for a relatively good rate plus a $50.00 rebate after the one year anniversary. The rebate should have been issued in January 2015 and here it is April and I am still waiting. I have emailed Public Power and got a robo-response saying someone would contact me in a couple days. That didn't happen. Then from February to April I made 6 phone calls and talked to various reps. Initially I was told to wait 6 to 8 weeks for the rebate to be processed. After 10 weeks I called and was told that someone would look into it and would get back to me within 6 days. That was 2 weeks ago. I have since called 3 times to talk to the rep who was helping me but I am told each time that he is not available but that he will call me back. I'm being given the run-around. My next email will be to the BBB and Connecticut's Department of Public Utilities. Avoid doing business with this company. read more
