My rent was raised 46% within a one year timeframe. First raised in May 2023, then against in November 2023. I started out paying $114 a month, and am now at $172 for a 5x10 storage space. I contacted Robert, at the Danbury office, and he couldn't help me. He told me that Public Storage makes rate increases "arbitrarily" and "at any time." I explained to him that his website advertises 5x10 space for $95/month right now, and he said he couldn't tell me why or do anything to help me. He gave me the phone number for corporate. I called corporate and THEY couldn't help me and told me to call Robert again and get in touch with whoever the "district manager" is. When I called Robert he said he couldn't give me the phone number or email for the district manager and that I was not allowed to contact him myself, but that he would email the district manager for me and in a week I should call corporate again if I hadn't heard anything. I explained that this was unacceptable, and could he at least give me the district manager's full name. Robert said he couldn't do that. I asked him if it was Public Storage's policy to not give out the last name of the district manager and he said "no, I just don't know his last name." I asked if he had a manager or a supervisor he could put me in touch with and he said "no." He finally said "okay I'll look in the system for the district manager's last name" and gave it to me. I am 24 hours away from calling the Better Business Bureau to report this company for its insane policies, its arbitrary rate hikes, and its deplorable customer service responses. read more

I have had a 5x5 storage unit for a little over a year and a half. During this time they have increased our lease price 3 times. We started by paying 85$ a month. Starting august we will be paying 195$ a month. It's still the same 5x5. In June we decided to switch to another storage business since our unit would be increasing 60$ this time. We got the notice of the increase through email on June 27th. We called June 27, 28, 29 and left two voicemails since no one answered on those days (we would not have made it in time before close to speak with someone in person unless we left work early, losing money) . We finally get a call back on the 30th of June stating that we had until 5 PM to clean out our unit if we wanted to cancel or we would have to pay July rent. They called around 12-1 PM. So we had 4-5 hours to get approval (lose money) to leave work, drive an hour to public storage (because of our work location) and clear out our entire unit and sign papers to terminate our lease. All in 4-5 hours. It seems like a tactic. You get an email 3-4 days before the month ends saying your unit will increase in price. You call call call, and on the last day they call back stating you have 4-5 hours to move your entire unit or you'll have to pay for the next month. So we paid for July and have removed 98% of our stuff. I have attached pictures of what the lot looked like here upon removing our stuff. If you know, they recently renovated the lobby of the building, putting in one way window coverings, for idk what reason. But they have flooding! And no one there fixing it. I hope water did not enter the larger units. And if they did I am so sorry to the people that might have had stuff ruined. With that being said. I would NEVER recommend public storage. read more

If I could give them -5 stars I would. The manager is never available. If you are one day past your due date for your bill they will bombard you with phone calls. I had an emergency situation with my health and was unable to pay my storage because I was hospitalized. I receive notice that my storage was going up for auction. I asked to make payment arrangements and they refused. They have no customer service skills they couldn't care less what you're going through. The rent goes up every month. The list goes on and on of what's wrong with this storage facility. They change staff almost every week. Stay away!! There are plenty of other places to store your items. Updated review: they charge for the full month on the first of the month, and when we moved out on the 4th we were told we would get ZERO refund for the remainder of the month that was already paid. Hello, I've rented with Public Storage for nearly two years now. Originally I had a 10x10 space and downsized to a 5x10 because it was more cost effective for me. The rate when I signed up was $63 Eventually it went to $80 And now it's $90 plus the insurances and taxes, bringing it to $110.xx I put in a request to cancel the rental and I put in my vacate notice for Saturday May 1st, as the weekend would have been convenient to get the work done. The manager of the Mill Plain Rd, Danbury location called me to let me know i'd need to vacate Friday April 30'th to avoid the charge for May. I called back to explain that I had requested the day off Friday and scheduled a rental with UHaul so I'd be able to take care of it - as I would not afford to pay the new rate. I contracted COVID on Thursday April 29th and decided the decent thing to do would be to quarantine as to not spread the virus, although I am able and symptom free (aside from taste/smell). I contacted the manager at the Mill plain location to explain this and she was very understanding. I said it would be a great help if I could even pay my current rate for one more month just until I can produce a negative covid result, and then clear out (within the next two weeks). She said she would try to help if she can and that she would need to contact the district manager to see if any accomodations could be made (which I appreciated). The district manager denied the request for any special circumstance deviation and alternatively said I could get someone else to empty the storage for me, that I don't need to do it myself. Although the manager was sympathetic and tried to make an exception, I think it was very odd that the district manager came back with this suggestion at 2:50pm on the intended last day. I can provide the doctor's note and the UHaul reservation and cancellation email to prove I took all these steps. I could have emptied the storage today, I feel well enough. Unfortunately this would put the staff and other visitors/renters at risk and could potentially contribute to fatalities that I would not want to be responsible for. Now I'm hoping this reaches someone higher than a district manager. Please reach out to me if there could be another solution. Just to be clear on this review, the manager Christina was great in listening to my issues and trying to help. It's the district manager I'm finding issue with. read more

Do not ever use this place. Here are a few reasons. 1. They are disorganized. They have a central company that manages the office and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. I would be told that I could pay a certain amount. Then, I got an additional invoice plus a late fee from the central company. When I asked Danbury what this was all about, and why our agreement wasn't honored, I learned that it was never entered into the computer! 2. They are scam artists. They make agreements and don't honor them. This concerns monthly rates, move-out procedures, and all kinds of service fees. 3. They aren't there during business hours, and then they charge YOU for the privilege of paying them! We arrived during business hours to pay the facility, and no one was there. We waited a half an hour and ... nothing. Then, we received a $20 late fee for being a day late when the employee finally decided to show up. They said we could have paid online. Yeah, right. With their scammy business dealings, I am not about to trust them with my financial information online. 4. They STEAL from their customers! I found that my credit card had been charged an unauthorized amount after I had moved all of my stuff out of there. After that, they had the NERVE to send ANOTHER bill. Now not to brag, but I have a very good financial record. I am not complaining due to irresponsibility or anything like that. I just felt the need to yelp about bad service when bad service was rendered. Do yourself a favor - use another facility. No wonder the previous facility that the Danbury location had used "burnt down." One more thing: this applies only to the Danbury office. Rented from Danbury location. Moved all my furniture in. 3 months into the rental I get an email the rental is going up $50. Picked my unit 5x5 unit online and reserved it, filling out the required information in advance. I showed up an hour late for my scheduled time but staff were very friendly and helpful. It was very quick to select my unit from the available units that matched what I reserved (5x5, ground floor), get my key installed, get my access code and test it, and I was back out and on my way in very little time. The facility was VERY clean and tidy, a refreshing change from other storage places where I've rented. Everything was well lit and accessible and the security was impressive. I love the big covered parking area where you can unload out of the elements. I would recommend this location to anyone needing some extra storage. read more

After searching online for a good deal on storage, I called Westy's and Public Storage. While, on the phone, Westy's was helpful, they didn't have the locker size I needed available and their rates were MUCH higher. PS was offering an online deal and $1 first month. We went down, saw a great 10X15' until in their brand new building, and signed up. It was super easy and ALL the staff was super helpful, especially James. The access times are perfect. read more

Had a truck full of furniture from my house in Ridgefield. I had booked space at Uncle bobs but upon arrival there it was closed. It was snowing but I had to get my stuff stored ! I called public storage and got very prompt responses and so made my way to their mill plain road location. I was helped by a very efficient and super nice lady called Suzanne. Online, I reserved a 10 x 5 Unit on the first floor 3 weeks in advance. The local store called me to confirm my reservation and arrival time twice, we spoke both times and I confirmed the online details. The morning of my arrival I called the local store again to confirm (3rd confirmation) my reservation, and that I would arrive between 5 - 5:30PM. When I got to the facility they said the unit I reserved on the first floor was not available and I would have to take a unit on the second floor for about the same price. In addition to not honoring my triple confirmed reservation, the price they charged for the 2nd floor unit was significantly higher than what I would have paid if I reserved that unit when I made my reservation. In other words, not only didn't they honor the reservation, they charged me more for the 2nd floor unit than it would have cost me if that's what I reserved in the first place. read more
