The people who moved our furniture into the unit said it was one of the nicer ones they'd seen. It was clean, they left us a padlock inside the unit and the move in went great. We arrived at the facility with the movers, within the office hours. Nobody there. We left a couple of voicemails on the phone number but there was no callback. Vivian has been helpful when you could get a hold of her but this time she ghosted us. We finally figured things out but it sure wasn't because there was anyone onsite to help us. read more

Our business has been renting a bunch of units at the Danvers location on Newbury St for the last few months. The site is great! it's secure, clean, reasonably priced, easy online rental, payments and access and the staff is absolutely wonderful! Vivian has been so bubbly, friendly, attentive and helpful throughout our whole experience renting and vacating units!! It's truly been an absolute pleasure working with her!! We did have an issue with our gate access code being used by someone who should not have had it but there was a young man who called us immediately to make sure our access codes were changed right away and everything was secure! I've been renting my unit for a little over a year and have already had 2 rent increases. I was told there would be a minor annual increase. This past increase is over 30% which I don't consider minor. Also I've brought my own hand sanitizer and wipes because everything is dirty. They don't wipe down the dolly's. They should at least supply wipes. read more

I could not imagine a more poorly run storage unit facility. No one is ever on site during their business hours. In the first year they increased our monthly rate 3 times and never return voicemail messages left. Lastly when our credit card on file expired we were not even a month behind a payment and they deactivated our access code and put a lock on our storage unit. The bill was paid online but of course no one is there on site reactivate access and take the lock off of our unit. Place is an absolute joke! This is my first and only negative post ever do yourself a favor and do not store anything here at the Danvers location. read more

I rented a storage unit at Danvers Public storage for 5 years. The facility was clean and secure. Recently, the access gate stopped working. For the past month, the problem has not been address. I decided to vacate my unit because the cost of my unit increased every year. My unit was 10 x7.5. The cost started at $127 and ended at $203. My final comment concerns the property manager Eric who never returned my call. My final receipt did not mention my pro-rated credit of $74.74. After several calls, I finally reached him and was told "you paid for the month and decided to check out early, that money is no longer yours." I was told it is in my contract. Perhaps, it is. However, Eric's tone and comment was unprofessional. Public storage is a clean and secure facility, but the customer service and pricing is lacking. read more

We rented our storage unit when there was a sale going on. When we had called Public Storage, which wasn't answered by this location, but rather a corporate office, we asked specifically how long the special rate would be good for. We were told it was for the length of time we were renting, with the exception of if rents raise across the board, we would see that same increase, but would still keep the % off from the special pricing. Then when we actually visited the location that weekend and rented the unit, we asked the same question to be sure, and we were given the exact same answer. Today, 5 months later, I received an email saying our rate was going up more than 30%. I called and was told this is how it always happens, which is not anywhere near what we were told. read more

Pathetic. Simply Pathetic. I have had a 10X20 unit there now for few years for the same reasons others do, I have stuff, both business and personal, that I just can't put anywhere else. But one assumes when you pay the rates that Public Storage charges one would be able to access the "stuff" stored there when needed. Ok, it's winter in New England. Surprise, it snows! I went to my unit on 2/7/15 to get something I really needed. The first thing I notice is that the gate is open and there is no security. The gate evidently is stuck in the open position because the geniuses plowing piled the snow around the gate. So we are all paying for a level of security that is not there and won't be until the snow melts! Next I look at the units and almost all of them have 2 to 3 feet of show plowed against them. I take the lock off then try to open the door. It won't open. I clear more snow away from the door with my hands and a board because who would have thought I needed shovels to get to a storage unit I pay top dollar for! Once the snow is cleared I can see why the door won't open, there is at least two inches of solid ice burying the bottom of the door. So my son and I start trying to chip away at the ice. At one point, my son goes up to see the manager, Brian, to see if he has anything to help us break the ice. He says no. Does the guy ask why we might be looking for ice breaking tools, nope. Does he offer to offer to get up from his chair behind the counter and come help, nope. He just sits there and says he has nothing to help us with. So for two hours and three trips back to my house to get pry bars, salt, hammers, etc. we pound away at the ice and finally open it. I have to confess, Brian walked down at one point to show a unit to another customer and saw me chipping away. When he totally ignored us, I got angry and yelled at him. If he said, "Sir I apologize, I will be right down to see if there is anything I can help with" I might have been less angry. But he proceeded to blame it on a vendor and said he would call his manager! Now that is a great big help to me! I am now very late for my commitments and still not in the unit. When I finally got in, retrieved what I was looking for, I went to shut the unit. The latch wouldn't work! I go up to see Brian and after taking care of two other customers he comes by my unit. Then he proceeds to tell me the problem is the latch. They have had several problems with other units. The only thing he can do is call his manager/supervisor and he had no idea how long it would take. So my choices were to remain there until some manager showed up which was something, once again, Brian couldn't help me with, or just leave with my unit totally unsecured and the security gate not working for which I pay close to $3000 per year! Brian did inform me if I left they would not be responsible for anything that happened!!! This company is awful. They train their help to make sure all the contracts are signed and how to collect money. If something happens they train them with canned responses that are delivered insincerely and, frankly, I doubt they have any idea what the words mean. I drove by there today. No a finger has been lifted to mitigate the issues for any of the other units and with more snow on the way I would guest my storage unit will be in the same condition I found it in yesterday. Just for kicks I went to two other local storage facilities within a few mile of this place and they had all their units wide open. Guess where I am going! read more

I have been to several other storage facilities in the Boston area (my company has units around) and this one is by far the cleanest and most well maintained. The hallways and the units themselves are really clean compared to others as well as climate controlled, which has been real nice the past few weeks. read more

I gave Public Storage a 3 star only because hey it's storage! how much can they do? they do have good customer service, the units are clean, hours are good. I've been there for about 10 years now. the prices have increased over the years, I have spoken to Corporate and the district manager to see if they can keep my rate the same and not increase it the 30.00. DO NOT RENT HERE! Worst customer service imaginable, from the regular staff in addition to the district manager. Main gate was broken and left wide open 24/7 for a period of 3+ weeks. Restrooms inside the indoor "climate controlled" building are atrocious. For several weeks the interior lighting was broken and made it impossible to see inside the room without a flashlight. Informed staff of the lighting issue, only to be repeatedly told week after week that "someone is coming down to look at it." I guess they must have been devoting all of their resources to fielding calls about the broken front gate, seeing as they tout their security procedures so highly when you go in to fill out the paperwork. Even after they fixed the lighting, my wife refused to go inside more than once because they evidently clean them very infrequently, perhaps only a few times a month. Last, but not least, the price I was quoted over the phone by PS was much lower than what I actually had to pay when I walked in the door! And I'm not referring to the "lock fee" either, because I had already purchased my own lock at Harbor Freight immediately prior to arriving. There was ANOTHER fee they tacked on in addition to the insurance you are forced to buy, even if you have existing renter's / homeowner's insurance, which jacks the monthly rent up by a considerable amount. PLEASE, TAKE MY WORD FOR IT. DO NOT RENT AT THE DANVERS PUBLIC STORAGE. Or, really, any Public Storage if you can possibly avoid it. Even if you think, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you will only use your storage VERY occasionally and therefore will have minimal interactions with the staff overall, I still implore you to consider any and all other options that may be available. I can recommend the UHAUL storage on the same street, if for no other reason than they are clean, in close proximity to this horrible place, and I have never had an issue with staff there. They also charge less and their security is much more high tech overall, broken gates notwithstanding. If you don't like UHAUL, there are a couple of other storage places in town that seemed to be a bit more expensive than them for the particular size I was looking for at the time. Just stay away from Public Storage like your life depended on it. read more

I went to pay my bill today and it was increase $22.00 per month. I contacted the office and was told that was correct. They said that a letter was sent out in September but I never received . Also interestingly enough all their correspondence is sent electronically which I never received. I rent a 10x 20 which is large and is expensive .I moved in April and in only 6 months they raise my rate with no notification. What I am going to do just move out right now Would not recommend deceptive rates and fees read more

I rented a 10 x 20 unit for two years almost exactly. I got a garage door access (unheated) unit because another family member had a unit there. I encountered billing problems for months, with some young woman calling me from onsite on a Saturday morning every month to threaten me, and late charges added to my account, despite my having set up a bank auto-pay that left plenty of time for my payment to arrive on time. The caller had no access to account information, just a list of people to call and hassle. All of the billing was done somewhere else -- and good luck finding that somewhere else to straighten out the billing. I finally tracked down the company's lawyer, and had Citibank send a letter to the effect that my payments were all going out. Magically, my payments started arriving there and getting posted reasonably quickly. So -- first thing: their billing is all screwed up. And there is no customer service, and their employees do not give a damn about anything. Second, in the winter of 2015 when we had lots of snow, and I was regularly coming to the area from across the country, the gate was stuck open for days and days (I don't know how long because it was broken when I arrived, still open when I left a number of days later). I complained, and pointed out that I was paying for a secure facility, and the staff onsite said it had frozen open and they were working on getting it fixed but the company who fixed it wasn't coming. So, second problem: they always find someone to blame their problems on, and they are not ABLE to deliver on their promise of security given the other companies (e.g. security) they have chosen to work with. Third, during the same winter, a fire sprinkler system froze and burst, and lots of people's units were flooded. I received a letter in the mail sometime afterwards saying that I had to get in there ASAP to see if my belongings were damaged and file a claim. I called (from across the country) and was told that my unit wasn't affected but I should get there as soon as I could. A few weeks later, I came and checked on the unit. It did not appear my belongings had suffered water damage, but then again I could not extract everything in the front of the unit in the dead of winter to see everything in the back. When I finally emptied the bin about a month ago, I found a few boxes of totally rotted books, some framed items that obviously have water damage but I haven't opened them yet, and a reproduction 19th century dresser with water stains 3-4 inches high on the legs. At some point there were mice. I know this because I opened the unit and spotted a couple of mouse poison boxes, and some of the quilted furniture wrapping had been gnawed on. So it looked like someone had opened the unit, although I'm supposed to have the only working key. I asked the desk and they said they had a company who regularly did pest control. Fourth, the bathrooms are disgusting. Think Greyhound bus station but without the heat. There was NEVER any toilet paper or paper towels and the women's toilets and floor were disgustingly filthy. Try solving any problem with the employees at the front desk, and chances are you will find them indifferent and possibly rude. They are not empowered to do anything at all except fill out a few forms and, one would hope, clean the bathrooms once in a while. The one good thing I can say about their attorney is that when my family member became very ill, he was able to work through the legal issues to give me control of the indoor unit. He also agreed to stop any additional rate increases. The rate for my unit started around $230-something and ended at about $278 after 2 years. I could not WAIT to get my family's belongings out of there. Since Public Storage opened I think the market has gotten more competitive. I would look around before choosing. read more

Ok - here's an update about my experience with this absymal company. I moved out of the unit I have had for 8 years on Saturday, 3/31. I believe I left about 5-6pm. So this week I get a postcard from Public storage telling me that I left a balance due of $7.10. Now if you know anything about this company, you can't leave a "balance due" anywhere as they lock you out of your unit and charge you $39 bucks if you're a day late or $1.00 short on your payment (one of the reasons I left - thought that was the epitome of "unreasonable".) So I knew I didn't owe them anything. I also know that their collection tactics are second only to the Mafia, so I called to see what this was about. Turns out, because I left "after the office was closed", they are now charging me for another day. !!!!! I was gone before it was dark on the last day of the month but they still want to gouge me for another $7.10. They know exactly what time I left as I had to enter my code to get the gate open. I did the math - I have paid this company it the area of $20,000 over the past 8 years for just this one unit (not counting the other units I've had here and at Salem) and they want another $7.10? And I was told they do report it to the credit bureau if I don't pay. I CANNOT URGE YOU ENOUGH - DO NOT RENT A STORAGE UNIT FROM THIS COMPANY. read more

Stay away! Staff was very slow to respond when I called. They had technical issues with their website last month and the autopay did not work. This was the second time the autopay didn't work. They did not send me notice until 5 days after the 1st of the month. I tried paying online and their website had issues. It wouldn't let me process payment. I had to go to the store to pay and they charged me a $50.00 late fee! Only 5 days late and it was because of a technical error on there side that I couldn't pay online!!! I called 3x asking for late fee to be credited back. They kept telling me a request was in and manager hadn't reviewed it yet. Finally after 2 weeks they called me back. The regional manager denied the refund. $250.00 a month for a 10x15 unit. Outrageous prices. Slow/unresponsive management! They shut off gates at 8pm so if you need something after that you have to wait. They don't keep lights on in the parking area of the bays at night. Stay far away from this place! read more
