Corporate Customer Service Nightmare! I rented a storage space for around 3 years after a move. Access to the facility was limited; unlike other facilities, there was no access after 5 or 5:30pm, maybe an hour later on weekends. This is pretty frustrating for anyone with a regular full-time job And a family. Beware, when signing a contract, they will try to get you to pay for a $20 padlock, as well as for insurance. If you have homeowners or renters insurance, you should be covered- call your agent. As stated in the contract, Public Storage can raise the Rent of your storage space anytime, and they will. Once you are counting on that service, they will take advantage. If you downsize to another unit in the same facility, you will have to sign another contract, again with the same shady practice. I ended up paying insurance that I didn't need for 2 years. When I cleared out of the space on the 2nd of the month, I was charged for renting for the entire month. If someone rented the same space on the 3rd, they would have to pay a prorated amount For the rest of the month. Incredible that the amount of overpaid insurance was almost exactly what they expected me to pay for the whole month at the new, higher rate! I proposed that we just call it even, since I had received no benefit from the service( their insurance ) I'd been charged for. I talked to the property manager, who stonewalled, then gave me the customer service number. When I talked to someone in customer service, they wouldn't give me the regional managers full name, only Ben. However, I had already gotten a payment reminder email addressed to "Dear Valued Customer "from a BenJamin Seghers. After speaking with Mr. Segher, I thought we had some understanding when he ended the call saying he would see what he could do. However, the next communication I received regarding the matter was a letter from a 3rd party collections agent, Allied Interstate. I spoke to an Allied Interstate agent, making them aware that the bill was in dispute, and they gave me the number of Kathleen, in Public Storage's Corporate Office. When I finally talked to Kathleen, she said that the regional manager, Ben Seghers was the only one who could resolve the issue; she said the best she could do was cut the bill in half, but I would have to pay Allied Interstate, or a PS office manager on site, and then report back to her. I told her I had no confidence in Mr. Seghers ability to make an ethical decision, and that I wanted to resolve this and put it behind me. I called PS Corporate Office again to find a facility with an on-site manager ( site of my storage unit required an appointment ) I went to the facility closest to my work, that PS Corporate Office said had an office manager, but no one was there. I called Allied Interstate to try to pay, but my account had not reflected the change Kathleen said she would make, neither did my account on the PS website. I am now awaiting my call to Kathleen to be returned. Last time it took over a week; I guess I'll also try Mr. Seghers again... read more

I highly recommend the Public Storage location. LaQuoia was super helpful and fantastic to deal with. Always had a smile and a cheery hello when I'd see her at the facility too. Storage unit facilities are not the most pleasant places under any circumstances. But they serve a purpose, which is to safely and securely store your belongings when you are moving or otherwise need some extra space. Public Storage accomplished neither of these for us. My husband and I went to our unit one night around 8pm to drop off some stuff. Walking up to our unit, we notice that it, as well as at least 4-5 others have been broken into. The metal latches or hasps were cut. Fortunately, it didn't appear any of our items were stolen, but it left us in the difficult position of having our stuff in a space that was unable to be locked. Because there was no one onsite, I had to call the national number. The first person tried to contact the regional manager, who didn't answer the phone. She then tried to transfer me and dropped the call. Calling back, I got a guy in CA who couldn't have cared less about my situation. Meanwhile, as I'm standing in the main hallway trying to get some help from the call center, a woman in a bikini on a bike rides in, letting two men in behind her. One is stumbling drunk. Another is a burly guy who also doesn't appear to be there for storage purposes. Apparently, Public Storage looks the other way to people living in the building and who knows what else. I saw it myself and further proof are the disposable razors and other spent toiletries in the bathroom. The other storage units on Hiawatha will tell you Public Storage is basically a homeless shelter. When I called the police, even they said they know people are living in there. That night, they let people spend the night in there knowing several units had no way of being secured. I was glad I vowed from the get-go to never go there alone. But even with my husband there, the whole experience was scary and unnerving. I haven't felt that unsafe in a long time. Maybe it is different in the day time, but that matters little for a place that I'm trusting with my things. The only redeeming thing I can say is that they refunded our rental fees. Some of their staff seemed genuinely concerned and provided good customer service, while others (particularly those in the call centers and the regional VP) were condescending and rude. Bottom line- shop around and do your due diligence before picking a storage facility. What we had to deal with was a major inconvenience (moving 100 boxes of vinyl records twice in a month), but based on what I saw there, we were lucky our experience wasn't worse. read more

LaQuoia at the Hiawatha location provided excellent service and made for a positive experience. Facility was clean and well ran.

I had my things stored here from 1/13-1/26 while I moved short notice. The locker itself was a 5x5 and spacious. The elevator and carts provided were also reliable. I did my initial walk through and paperwork with Heather, who I understand is a new employee. Unfortunately, she provided me with quite a bit of misinformation regarding the move out policy, pro-rated rent, and a couple other things. I understand we all go through training at some point and heaven knows I've made mistakes at a new job, but it's a good opportunity for her to brush up on her knowledge or maybe have a manager with her to do make sure she is giving out the correct info. I did have a hard time also being able to speak with someone when needed. When I moved out, I headed to the office around 3:20 to close my account. The sign on the door said someone would return by 3....also, it's been a challenge to get someone on the phone when I call. Overall, it was a decent experience and I'll use them again if I'm in a bind. Not sure if it's the first place I would think to call though. read more

It's hard to imagine a WORSE experience- this is literally the first and only business review I've ever written, but I feel it's my duty to warn others away from this "business". First, I called ahead of time to verify that the height of the unit door would be sufficient for the item I needed to store and assured it was. Lo and behold, upon arrival at the facility the door was at least 2 feet shorter than I was told. No problem, mistakes happen, but here is where it got truly awful... The facility itself is pretty ghoulish- it's dark, dingy, definite horror movie vibes. As we were entering the facility, 2 police officers showed up, followed by 2 more. Apparently there was a burglary in progress- at 2pm on a Sunday. At this point, we were GLAD the unit was too small, as we wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving anything of value here. So, we go to the office to cancel the reservation, and were told we'd receive a refund. I'll spare you the frustrating details, but I've made over 30 calls to both the facility (shocker- they don't answer the phone) and Public Storage's national customer service line, and still have yet to receive a refund despite promises that it would be resolved. Just a horror show all around- avoid at all costs! read more

Storage is storage, but the reason for this 4 star review is due to the excellent customer received from Shara. She was extremely professional, friendly, and super helpful from start to finish. She gave excellent customer service on the phone and in person. We all know it's hard to receive good customer service these days, so when you do experience it, it totally deserves a shout out. Good location and competitive pricing but the property managers are absolutely useless. Per Public Storage policy there should be a property manager on site during all business hours. Maybe other locations are different but the managers at the Hiawatha location are close to impossible to get a hold of. This is important because frequently you will have people parked in the very middle blocking all through traffic and no one on site to tell them to move. Most of the clientele will not move if asked nicely. Lastly, there's almost always one garage door not working so that leaves you needing to do a U-turn in extremely tight areas. Oh and there's a mouse problem, had some important things chewed up. Spend the extra money and go elsewhere, it'll be worth the stress you save. read more

It's cheap, it's dirty and the staff are VERY unprofessional. They do not mention the insurance you have to buy or the lock you have to buy with your rental storage space at all during phone call to reserve your space. That's another $30. Poor storage conditions at the Plymouth location off of Ranchview Ln! Our unit was located along an exterior wall. When we moved out our stuff we found water had been leaking through the exterior wall and into our unit. This caused mold to form on a dresser and car seat. When I asked if they could do anything to remedy the situation they told me the only option was to put in a claim to my homeowners/renters insurance. I realize they need to protect themselves in certain situations, but when they fail to provide basic adequate conditions....come on! Extremely disappointed in this business! read more

WATCH OUT! Your monthly rate is subject review and WILL be increased arbitrarily at any time they wish. If they "feel" your unit is renting at something below "market" they will just simply raise the rate. It turns out the only way to secure a rate is to pre-pay for a set period -- none of which is described to you. They bank on the fact that you spent more time, effort and money moving your things in vs. the cost of moving it to an ethical storage facility. I had great customer service and a very positive experience. My unit was dry, well-lit, safe and secure. Although my things were only there a short time I will definitely use them again if needed. Public Storage or their bank made an error processing our check. They are trying to charge us the fees! I have spent no less than 4 hours trying to resolve this, now the managers won't even return a phone call! I realize I've spent much more time on this than the fees, but I'm not going to pay an NSF check fee when it was not even remotely close to being NSF. Nobody in customer service can help. It's really a joke, except it isn't funny. :( read more

Good, clean storage. Easy check-in and check-out process. Shana was very helpful and easy to work with.

The facility is convenient and in good enough condition. But the customer service was not good and the hidden fees were not disclosed prior to my arrival. We reserved a 1st floor unit (I had proof), and when we arrived were assigned a 3rd floor unit requiring us to make multiple elevator trips; This unit had a pole in it effectively taking 2 ft. off the space allowance. So be picky if you really need the space. They wanted us to buy unnecessary insurance (undisclosed prior to my arrival) and insisted I call my homeowner's insurance agent from the office. But then required no paperwork to verify I was covered (like they were my parent); I had to buy the lock (also undisclosed prior to my arrival). Advise: Be sure to get all the hidden fees up front and do look at the unit they are assigning you. read more

I needed more boxes for my move and this location was conveniently on my way home from work. I was greeted by Tina, who was very helpful and even carried the boxes to my car. The office was clean and organized, and she made sure I had everything I needed. Would definitely come here again for any box or packaging needs. read more
