Used this storage for a year or two (2015-2016). It is extremely cleaned and well air conditioned in the unit. However there are only two elevators(which made it hard to move things up and down when other people we there). They leave the office around 5, so if you don't have your code you need to call the service number. They offered the one dollar a month for the first fee, I could not resist going to them for a storage unit and it was fairly cheap compared to LA. For the unit I rented the monthly fee was 110.00 or somewhere around there then out of nowhere(few months later) the free went up to 150.00 or so. The best part about this public storage in my option is the Customer Service. Christopher who is at the front desk was also kind enough to open the gate for me. As I did not care to learn the access code. He was always polite and remembered my face from months ago. I was extremely reckless about locking my storage unit. Surely enough Chirstopher would call and let me know that it was unlocked. Im sure its there job to inform clients, but it was the way he treated me each time I forgot, informing me that he would make sure my personal items were safe and never being condescending about forgetting to lock up. He has a really great attitude, and because of this I'm positive when the time comes I will use Public Storage again. Pro's: One dollar first months rent, Extremely Clean, Air conditioned Excellent Customer Service at the building, Chris. roller carts to move big items on Cons: The raised the price out of nowhere, there is limited amount of parking, there are only two elevators. Be aware of these Storage facilities, will raise the prices almost every two months with no shame, in increments of 20.00 sometimes, the promotion you get in the beginning will be nothing and you will end paying more than in any other storage facility in the market at the end of the year! read more

So we stroll in at 4:30 on a Sunday evening, after having just been told we were too late to rent from another near by Public Storage facility. We were desperate and needed to rent, and use a unit tonight! Chris and April were so helpful and nice! They made us feel at home and didn't hesitate to get the paperwork started right away. They gave us, and my nieces, access to the restrooms and showed us where the unit was and how to use the access gate. If you need a storage unit, I would bring your business here! The facility is also incredibly kept, offers ample packing materials for purchase, and had four or five free hand carts available for use moving items into the unit. The public storage in Montclair is a joke. In less than a week after renting the unit it was broken into and items stolen. The employees and/or managers here couldn't care less about someone breaking into my unit and actually seemed more accusatory as if I was lying about it. Thean informed me that the type of lock that I was using which is the big circle lock that most people use on these units was able to be manipulated so that people could break into it . I Ask them if they new about this malfunction with a type of lock why weren't they telling people about it. There was no disclaimer on the website that I rented the unit on there is no sign or any kind of warning about the lock in the facility at all. The manager told me that there they are letting people know about it which does me no good since my unit was broken into you apparently by manipulating my lock.They told me that the only thing I could do waas contact the insurance company which I did. That's in even bigger joke than the so called customer service here at public storage. Even though I purchased the mandatory required Insurance through their company Orange door since my unit was broken into and there was no sign of forced entry they denied my claim . Send the lock is able to be manipulated in a way that thieves are able to open it somehow apparently there is no sign of forced entry so the lock was not broken off the door was not kicked in so therefore there was no forced entry and my claim was denied. I am in the process of appealing it and looking into legal options as well. read more

The facility is very nice and the staff is accomodating, which is why I offer the two stars that I have. After having the unit of only 6 months, though, I recieved a notice that my rent was going up to compete with market rates. I called the office and explained that the reason that I selected this unit at this location was because of the rate, but was referred to the corporate office. I then explained my same concern to the corporate office who reiterated that I'm still under market rate, so there was nothing they could do. I didn't rent the unit based on some market rate analysis, I rented it because they had the best price. Simple as that. Now that all my stuff is moved it, they changed the game on me. They say it's written into my rental agreement that they can do this, which I will take their word for it, but it's not a matter of legality as much as it is ethics. Public Storage clearly has a bait and switch manner of operating, so if you think you have a good deal, you may want to consider a non Public Storage brand as an alternative because they'll get you in the end. I'm sure they're banking on the notion that you're not going to move out even if your frustrated by their pricing but I, for one, will gladly expend the labor as a matter of principal. read more

The location and cleanliness of this Public Storage is great and I am in agreement with so many others in this regard. However, I am surprised that this location has such high ratings overall. Our (our family has 4 units at this location in total) experience with this location has been challenging to say the least. The security cameras sound all well and good, expect when they do not aide in finding out who broke into my storage unit (lock was cut off, yet nothing was taken). Then, it took 4.5 weeks to have the locking mechanism fixed on my unit; which was 4.5 weeks I was without access to my unit as well! For over 6 months both lights in front of another one of our units have been out, even though we have submitted multiple requests to install new light bulbs. These are not our only issues with Public Storage in Montclair, either. Once would think it would be beneficial for Public Storage to know of our disappointment as a valued customer. However, that is not the case. Neither John (Site Manager) or Rick (District Manager) seem willing to compensate us for our troubles nor do they seem to care. Speaking to Customer Service wasn't helpful, either. Overall, quite disappointed. read more

This place SUCKS !!! Units get broke into and John was soooo unhelpful as a property manager he did a POOR Job.... Glad i am out of there. They are very non helpful Your unit gets broken into and you have to pay somone else to get into your unit not OKAY. People LOOK twice before you rent here. I have come across a few people who have had there unit broken into. NOT a good place to store your stuff.... So unhappy with this place...... Will do business elsewhere. Front desk people are RUDE. Getting a cart that is a fight in itself the people they rent to are so disrespectful you have to literallyy go up to the person using the cart and ask them to give it to you when there done bad management. Great service! I made the reservation online and received a call from John within 5 minutes introducing himself. I met with him and he made the process extremely easy and pleasant. I had my 2 kids with me (ages 4 and 2) and he was nice and very helpful. He was patient with me and the kids. He gave them paper and highlighters to draw on so that we could go over the paperwork. Thouroughly impressed with the facility. Chris was awesome in helping me set up my lease agreement and very helpful. The only thing I don't like is that there is one bathroom in the facility. My unit is on the top floor so that means you have to go all the way down to the first floor. And you have to have the code to get in 2 separate doors. Other than that the place is great. read more

The facility is clean and well kept, security cameras make you feel safe. The actual process of renting the space can be some what aggravating. the manager John attempted to up-sale me at every turn first handing me an old used lock that I was expected to pay a new price for (I had my own). Then he hands me a roll of tape and said if you don't use in in 30days return it for a refund (Right). Then he says he has to charge me an admin fee even though all my information was currently in their system and I was a current customer in good standing and never late (soaked for a $22,00 got cha fee) Then he tells me I need to buy insurance because according to him it's MANDATORY. I assured him it was not and had a copy of my homeowners insurance for him to review just in case. He never bothered to look just wrote declined across the insurance papers. Lots of complaints from people that used the insurance. I like the location its just an irritating and a rip off of $22.00 for an admin fee. read more

customers beware of this location and public storage locations in general. my unit was broken into about a week ago. the thevies had broken in through the wire mesch netting of my unit. the wire ceilings mesch was tampered with. i approached my unit unlocked my lock which was still intact and noticed tons of items missing. theives dont need to break a lock to break into most units there is a 3-4ft gap above top of roll up door to ceiling, that is seperated by a wire mesch which anybody can bring in a ladder and cut the wire mesch and get into your unit which is what happened to me. i told management and the first thing they asked was do i have insurance, which i said yes. just a little fyi, insuranace is manadatory before you can even rent a storage unit through public storage, i proceeded to show them how the theives must of broke in my unit and the property manager said it is not possible for anyone to go in through the wire ceiling that is attached and thats all he said, no further help whatsover. i filed a police report with montclair pd and they were no help. the security at this storage place is horrible so is the management!!!! read more
