I'm beyond frustrated and disappointed with Public Storage. I called to reserve a unit and was explicitly told over the phone that I could get a full refund on the rent as long as I didn't move in. Based on that promise, I paid for the unit during that same phone call. Only AFTER taking my payment did they send the rental agreement -- which conveniently said something completely different. I never stepped foot on the property. I never used the unit. And yet when I called 8 days later to cancel, they denied my refund and hid behind the fine print of the agreement I received after the fact. This is shady, deceptive business. They knew exactly what they were doing -- make promises verbally, take the money, then bury the real terms in a post-payment email. I feel completely lied to, and now I'm stuck paying for a service I didn't use based on a false guarantee. I would never recommend Public Storage to anyone. If you're considering them, protect yourself and get everything in writing before you give them a single dime -- or better yet, take your business elsewhere. read more

I advise against using this location, as there is no on-site staff available after online signup, rendering it impossible to access the storage unit you have paid for. The customer service is virtually nonexistent, and when they did return my call, hours later, their response to my expressed frustration is simply "so you want to vacate your unit." Having never actually accessed the property, I found the experience to be an absolute waste of time, and they stole my money. THIEVES!!! Zero stars. read more

Pro-tip: AVOID using this Public Storage at all costs. They may have "deals", they may have many convenient locations, but they are absolutely useless and unhelpful. It takes a lot for me to say that, I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. But I cannot in good conscience allow anyone to be in a position to be treated poorly by this company. AVOID AVOID AVOID. I rented a 10x10 unit to temporarily store packed boxes as I prepare to move. I was supposed to be able to have access to the unit yesterday, but when I showed up at 2pm (during normal business hours), there was no one there to provide me with the lock that they REQUIRE you to use. I called the office and left a message. Wasted an hour of my time. Didn't hear back from them, so called the office again at 4pm yesterday, left another message. Nothing. At 10:22 this morning, the office called me back, I was not able to answer because I was in a meeting. The person didn't leave a message and called me back to back, again not leaving a message. I reached out to Public Storage online, and the chat agent was deeply unhelpful. They stated that they have no way of knowing if someone will be in the office, even if it's during normal business hours. What? Then add that caveat to your website, so people don't waste their dang time! Don't post business hours, and not have employees honor that! The chat agent said that they could "put in a request" for a refund, but it wasn't a guarantee, and they'd still keep my "one-time" $30 processing fee. Uh. So I'm going to pay you to treat me like crap? The agent then said that they'd send a message to the district manager. Right, I have total trust that *that* is going to do anything, given the way everything else has gone thus far. These people do not care. I guess there's nothing to do but take the $30 hit and cancel my contract and search for another storage unit that's close to the new place. Adding stress to an already stressful time. STAY AWAY FROM PUBLIC STORAGE. read more

Don't get a storage rental. The price just shot up 25% in less than a year. And what has changed in their cost model to warrant it? Nothing about covid-19 should affect them. You see the clerk 1x to rent it, then what further services are they offering for such a great increase? Only thing, I suspect is that with a large exodus from California, that many people have put stiff in storage and moved out of state to WFH and save $$ on rents. And they are betting that most won't come back to the state to empty their storage lockers until forced to by their employers. So they can gouge us for a short while. I for one am clearing out my locker ASAP. Yes it's only $50 more, but $50 ×12 = $600 , in my pocket, not theirs. read more

This facility is in a questionable area however the storage facility itself is in immaculate condition and I always felt very safe on the property. There is a high tech gate operated system where only one car with a specific code can enter at a time. The facility is not a giant maze so you won't get lost but it is big enough where there seem to be units available. Miss Sharnice and Sean were both very very helpful on the phone and in person. I had an emergency situation where I was guided to come to this Public Storage facility after calling another and was completely blown away by the professionalism, cleanliness, and help I received during my move in and move out of my storage unit. The building isn't new but it's always kept in it's best condition due to the staff's attention to maintaining cleanliness. Even other customers who came by to check their storage units were always nice or offered helped. Its a completely different vibe and air on the property compared to the surrounding area. I would HIGHLY recommend this Public Storage solely just based on the customer service I received from the staff here. Thank you for all of your help during my moving time. read more

Scharneyse called me immediately after I completed my online application and walked me through a few more options. She then set up my appointment for later that afternoon. Once I arrived, she gave me a tour of my storage unit, which was spotless, and then walked me through the paperwork. While we were signing the paperwork, she and I started talking about the community and I found her to be extremely insightful and engaging. She's a native of Oakland and cares about our community as a whole and the neighborhood where I will be storing belongings - this is very important to me because it gave me a sense that this Public Storage was a safe and secure location. I used to have a space at public storage and for the couple of months I was satisfied but after about 90 days my space went up $15 and it was about to go up again. When I asked why it kept going up I couldn't get a straight answer and ended up moving to High st Bridge storage which is more secure and the rates were cheaper and reasonable for that area. As for customer service before the new managers took over I had the manager threaten to put a lock on my door if I didn't pay that day. The only problem was I paid a week prior to the other manager and he didn't know the payment was in the system. When he found out that he overlooked it I didn't get an apology from him. I called his boss who apologized but by that time I had already moved to another storage. Bottom line is that if you don't mind getting hit with fees and elevated prices after you move in, your good! I would look elsewhere first. read more

I used the $1 for the first month offer to rent a space for 30 days. A few things to note. Yes it really is $1 but you also have to pay for insurance and a lock (if you don't bring one yourself). The lady that checked me in assumed I didn't have a lock and included it the price. So if you bring one make sure its hefty (like a shrouded lock) and make sure you let them know you have one. If you don't they charge you $20 for a lock (and I'm not sure if you get to keep it after you move out). read more

This Public Storage facility is clean and the customer service people have all been very nice and efficient. I have no issue with the space or the staff. I have issue with Public Storage's business model. The issue you should be aware of is that your rental rate is extremely insecure. I moved in to this facility because the price was affordable for me and they give you a discount on the first month. However, the rent was raised by 30% within the first 5 months! Storage units are not subject to rent control. Public Storage clearly takes advantage of this fact by raising rates to an unreasonable percentage in a short amount of time. I would not be too upset if the rate had been raised 5-10%, but 30% is not going to promote my loyalty and I'll sadly have to take my business elsewhere. They will not tell you this going in, but take it from me. Storer beware! That said, if you only have to store items for a few months, then this is a great spot. read more

Location is cool very accessible to Lake Merritt bart, 880 freeway and AC Transit, but one of the coolest parts about my short stint at Public Storage was Scharneyse, the front desk staff she is always polite and professional and always on top of the goings ons of the facility. Stay far away! I rented a storage unit (#259) for 18-months while I was away in Washington, DC. After the 1st year, they raised my storage rent $20/month. More importantly, this Unit #259 had water leaking from the roof that caused extensive damage to our furniture and mattress. The store manager said, "That's why I told you from the beginning to get the insurance." Insinuating that he knew about this water leakage before we rented the unit. Terrible service. Terrible storage facility. Neglegent and untrustworthy in every way. Stay far away from this place. read more

This was the worst experience ever for me at a storage unit. The manager was quite rude to me, in fact she wouldn't allow my service animal to be with me at my unit, therefore causing me to have a severe post-traumatic stress episode not to mention the fact that twice something strange happened to my locker I believe that they broke into it number 1 and number 2 they didn't they didn't even pay attention 2 the rules I put on my son going in to my storage. One day I went to storage and I couldn't even get in because apparently my son who is not supposed to have access tohanging things I change the code on me every time I went there I was constantly being harassed followed I didn't appreciate their service and asked me about the payment so I paid early then I cleaned my unit out early and they refused to give me my money after cleaning it&she harassed me before I was even done cleaning. Hey when I asked her about how the code changed and if my son was ever seen with anybody else she said no and I know that's a lie because his girlfriend often tries to pretend to be me and I believe that's what happened and I was robbed don't trust this place they're awful. awful awful experience.changing read more

Ok, I'll be honest about this public storage on International, they did me wrong once the owner of the place. I forget his name but I spoke of giving me more time to pay and he actually cut my lock i was like two days from making the full payment and he didn't offer me the luxury of giving me more time just as a good client, (2 years ago) but Estela and Embaye whom are employers there have been very nice to me in the past. Estela, just saved my life yesterday with a cup of water because I was gong to pass out (due to health issues-dehydration), and she rescued me with a cup of water. So she's been very helpful but as far as that location of Public Storage is concerned, I don't know if you'll always feel you'll get the best hospitality as far as having patience with payments and such but as far as hospitality goes on the employee end of it, it's awesome.
