She is amazing! Completely professional, but also friendly and warm. And the facility itself is definitely safe and secure and gets my highest recommendation. It USED to be trust worthy but now- I don't think so. I am sure the owner will promptly respond to this review and say whatever he needs to. If you are like me and depend on auto pay- good luck. Yes, the place is clean- it should be. Friendly staff is a good thing- then they are not. Yes, the names of walk ways are of streets in Alameda- how cute. Yes, they give free locks. THEN they ding your account for late charges even on auto pay because for some reason it does not go through- three times for me. I even had a bank employee, on a three way call, helped straighten out the information needed for an auto pay arrangement. I also put it on a credit card. It was finally arranged, so I thought. I left the country for three months only to find out the payments were not made and my unit was going to auction within a week! Deal breaker! I went to pay and rescued my precious pictures/stuff and all is well. Admin said they sent emails but upon review in front of them, (all mails, spam, etc.) no emails. They said they do not know what happened but I was charged $29 each attempt and ended up $200+ on service charge just this time around. Deal breaker! I MOVED OUT ASAP to a storage place just down the street... so clean it looks high tech and very busy with tenants. High Street storage, not so much. Don't be easily impressed. read more

A little pricier than other places, but well worth it for the longer hours, sweet staff, and availability of carts for convenient loading and unloading from the parking bay. They were also immediately responsive with COVID-19 precautions, initially only letting one customer into the facility at a time (though they have now returned to more regular operations on that front). read more

The staff here is wonderful and they always treat you with professional courtesy. The rates are reasonable and the prices for their storage boxes are fairly affordable. They were friendly and highly recommended by a company that was excellent to work with (and also highly recommended) when I moved in. Tremendously disappointing. Edit after the below reply: Also when I reported the fourth(?) or so break-in I was told that someone from corporate would contact me directly, and instead only received the below online denial. Further, at one point they said they could provide me with a record of all the times my unit had been accessed within the past week or so by the end of the day, then rescinded, pushed the length of time back, and rather than giving me a record of the times it had been accessed (per their security/alarm system), provided me with video records. It seems highly plausible to me they could have been covering up other times the unit had been opened and only informing me of the ones that were actually me/that they had video evidence of. This place is the absolute best. Sherry and her team go above and beyond for you. They made moving from the East Coast to the West Coast a breeze. They allowed me to send my stuff there and they moved it into my storage unit at no extra cost! This is not something they normally offer, but I was in a real jam and they helped me out. I wanted to send a few small items via UPS and as long as they weighed less than 25 pounds they took them. They allowed me to sign all my papers online and I was also able to checkout using a mover as long as they attested the unit was empty. Their customer service is amazing, all the women that work there take their time explaining everything to you. Nothing seems to be a bother. They are such lovely people, I'd definitely recommend them. read more

I am just so impressed by the quality of service, space, safety, cleanliness and ease working with this company. I stored my stuff for almost a year. Had to come in and out several times. Super kind staff and professional. At one point, I lost my key (because my keys and wallet were stolen in another part of Oakland). They broke the lock for no charge within 15 minutes of the request. This storage facility was voted #1 in the East Bay! OR was it the Bay Area? And by whom? I forget, but if you go there, they will have signs that say so, and they will tell you the same, too. It is hard to get in and out of this place, because it is right near the High Street Bridge entry into Alameda, so there is traffic and you have to see the little turn into the place. There are conveniently 2 or 3 parking spaces where you can pull into the warehouse, so if it is raining, you won;t have to move stuff in and out of the rain. But the spaces are very tight. They have an access code by the office you have to code in your code. The storage spaces are all indoors, and it is environmentally controlled, I think. They have also named the maze of hallways of the storage area after the city streets just outside, so it is easy to remember where your unit is located. They have a couple of dollys/hand carts for you to borrow. Also, near the office and where you can purchase box supplies, there is a little Popcorn Machine Cart. So you can eat Popcorn while you are toiling away storing and un-storing. And since the halls are named, you don't need to use the popcorn as a trail marker to find your way out, like Hansel and Gretel did. read more

SECURITY: Keypad for gate. Alarm codes and locks for Individual units. Cameras throughout facility. Core staff has worked there at least 5 yrs and has integrity. CLEANLINESS: Constant, visible, maintenance. COST: Midrange. Well worth it, and opportunities for discounts. Best prices on packing materials in town (and good variety). Never thought I'd have a strong opinion on a storage facility but I love this place. My husband and I moved from the east coast and wanted to take our time with the drive to visit friends and places along the way. Having a trailer or truck would've made us targets, cost a lot, and slow us down. We were able to ship several boxes here as long as they weighed under 25 pounds. This way we didn't have to arrange for picking up and delivering to the space, etc. It was super-convenient and took a lot of stress out of the logistics of such a big move. The people were so friendly when we arrived. They wouldn't even accept a tip for taking 20-30 boxes to our space over three weeks. I feel like our stuff is very safe as each is locked and alarmed. Top notch storage, but you pay top dollar. This place seems pretty safe (they said they have never had a break-in... don't know if they would actually tell me if they did though). I was there for a year an never had any problems. Lots of camera's in every cooridor and alarms on every unit. Plus there is this sort of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' security factor, where all the units look the same and its really easy to get lost walking through the halls (similar to the government storage facility they put the ark in at the end of the Indiana Jones movie). High street storage is really focused on good customer service. They make a point of it. They always have free water and candy in the office, free popcorn (most of the time), multiple people in the office, so that you never need to wait for admin help, and staff roaming the halls to help people out. Plus, you can drive right into the facility and there are ample dollies, so loading/unloading is easy, and a large elevator. You pay for it all though. For a 5x5 storage place, it runs about $75/mo. When I was searching, I found other places in the $40 range, for the same size (but those units didn't seem as secure and customer service was poor). I got the first few months at half price, because they were running a special (I think they run a lot of specials). One thing to be aware of is that you need to give a 15 day notice to vacate. If you don't, you end up paying for an extra 15 days. read more

These folks are amazing. I'm moving this weekend, & today is my last chance to score some packaging supplies in time to actually pack properly. I don't get home until half an hour before they close, and you know how it is when you're late for something. Everything goes wrong. Red lights everywhere. My GPS can't find them, so I drive in circles around the Home Depot two blocks away from their store. I call them right as they're closing, super frustrated about 1) being lost, 2) no time to pack, 3) hating life. The guy on the phone gives me step by step directions to their store, and they stay open 20 minutes late so that I can pick out the stuff I need. He even gives me advice on which boxes I should get, and help me out to my car with my stuff. This is totally above and beyond, and I am very grateful for the great customer service at this place. They are the best Storage place that I have EVER used. Since moving to California from Oklahoma back in the late 80's. A year ago, my wife and I decided to pack up the family and move to Portugal. We sold almost everything, but kept a 5 x 7 locker of personal items, books, wall decorations, rugs, etc. to deal with at a later date. A year later, I'm back to pack and ship, and it has been challenging to say the least. From day one though, HSBSS has been courteous, professional, and super helpful. In a spur of the moment/get my life back in order decision, I decided I would rent a self storage unit. Of course, the most recognizable company is Public Storage, but using good ol' Yelp, I found High St Self Storage. I practically drive past it everyday but never noticed it! I noticed that storage prices, usually based on unit size, is about the same at all locations within the area. The deciding factor were the freebies given. They gave me several good sized free boxes, a free padlock, and a free tool-kit (but it's crap). They also had a "FREE FIRST MONTH" print-out coupon on their website which had a "CALL FOR DETAILS" for the fine print. The employees at first told me the coupon was only good for 10' X 10' units, but decided to just go ahead and give me the free month on my 5' X 10'. They also gave me another $5 off my first paid month because I signed up for auto pay. Now onto the facility - it's all in-doors with 5 drive-in parking spaces. There's also street parking which I prefer since their drive-in spaces are too small even for my compact. The 2-story building is kept brightly lit and a comfortable temperature. All units are individually alarmed and requires alarm de-activation near the main entrance before entering and you need to activate the alarm when leaving. Not too much hassle for added security. The building is open 8 am to 7 pm 7 days a week. There are other facilities open later, but it works for me. For moving boxes to the units, I only see 2 carts, but on Saturday and Sunday when I was there, there weren't any other customers so I had free use of the carts. I was lucky to get the last 5' X 10' on the ground floor so no elevator for me. On a side note, in my unit, there were 2 small cups of spilled rat poison - doesn't bother me, but I'd just buy some more and put in in there for insurance. It's weird to say about a storage place but they have some of the best service you can get in any type of business. When you are moving in, they will offer you water about 10 times. They are genuine, sincere people who take the time to talk to you about whatever you need. They will call you a couple days before your payment is due. I went here based on reviews from yelp and am very happy I did. I rented a storage for my tenant for 3 months and got a great rate for 3-4 bedroom. The facility is clean the staff are extremely helpful and polite. They also have street signs in the hallway which makes it easy to locate the storage. Great place to store your things. I am leaving after over 8 years of storing my holiday decorations and other important things here, leaving the area. The place has remained clean no creedy crawlies. I'm an idiot and forgot my key at home in the city. How much for a lock cut? FREE FOR THE FIRST TIME! Do you need a lock? No I think I have one. Oh no I don't. How much for a lock? FREE WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR FIRST LOCK CUT! So in any other storage facility forgetting my key would be $40 and a big pain in the ass in addition to cranky employees in golf carts. Not here! My experience with this storage has been awesome! We are moving up to the bay area and need to put our stuff in storage while we find a place to live. I found this place on Yelp and decided to try them out. I called a couple weeks ahead of time to get pricing and availability. The staff on the phone was super friendly, told me about all the move-in specials and even helped me choose a unit size over the phone. They told me that they normally hold a unit for 6 days, but since I was moving up from San Diego they would hold it until the date I was due to move up to the bay area. The day before my move I called to confirm (just in case I got there and no reservation), and the gal pulled up my information quickly and said I was good to go and even told me what my storage number would be. The day that I arrived I was greeted with friendliness and a bottled water. I was so exhausted from the 9 hour drive that water hit the spot! :) We got there at 430pm and quickly filled out the paperwork. At that point, it was 5pm and we only had 2 hours to put everything into storage, as they close up at 7pm sharp. We had a 26ft truck full of heavy furniture. Pulling this off was going to be an amazing feat! We got to work and realized at 630 that we were not going to unload everything in time like we wanted. We were going to have to seal up the moving truck and come back again in the morning to finish unloading. My husband decided to ask Shari how much it would cost to stay past 7pm because it was worth it to us to pay the extra to get the van unloaded. They were so accomodating and stayed almost an hour past 7pm so that we could finish unloading at no extra charge! I couldn't believe how nice they were to do that for us. This is truly excellent customer service! I highly recommend this storage. They give you a free lock, are friendly, have great move-in specials, are clean and secure, and most of all they go above and beyond. Four days after moving in we received a Thank You card from them at our temporary address. Simply wonderful! read more
