We were drawn in by the "$1 first month" deal they were offering for a 10 by 20 unit. The lady was very friendly and helpful. She genuinely seemed like she wanted us to get a good deal while keeping our stuff safe. The storage units are pretty average. Ours was pretty dirty, but we weren't looking for anything fancy anyway. There are fees for the lock and insurance, which is mandatory, so it came out to around $55 for the deal. We only needed the unit for a month, so that's pretty reasonable. I recommend always looking for a deal before paying full price. Different Public Storage places all have different deals. read more

The first time I needed a storage unit and it's left a wonderful impression on if I need it for future use. I was able to actually grab the storage I had for a steal! Then on top of that the manager was extremely nice!! Took her time to explain things and gave me my options without pushing! Very knowledgeable and very kind. Would come back again the place was very well kept and didn't have and issues! read more

My unit was broken into without anyone knowing how it happened. There is a gate. Another entry security lock is at the main entry of the building where my storage is located. The door to my storage is also broken into and was replaced with a new lock by management but I never was given a key. read more

History

Established in 1972.

The first Public Storage building opened in El Cajon California, but the new business was only supposed to be temporary. Two partners pioneered the concept as a way to use their real estate investment while they waited for the Southern California community to take off and value of their land to grow. They kept building, and people continued to fill their units. Eventually the pair realized that self-storage was here to stay, and they never looked back. Today, there are thousands of neighborhood Public Storage locations to choose from, many right around the corner from you.

Then for the two following weeks (while I was calling daily asking for updates) I was given zero information about where my things were or when they would be delivered. The gentleman who dropped my things off, 14 days after they were originally picked up, said my things were loaded onto his truck in a parking lot of a truck stop because he happened to be going in the direction of the delivery. From the moment he opened the back of the truck I knew my things were damaged. As I opened the crushed, misshaped boxes, many of my things were broken. I asked for clarification about making claims for the broken items and was not provided any information.

They recieved the item on Monday but could only deliver on Thursday. Confirmed delivery from 2pm to…read more5pm on Thursday. At 6pm the company I ordered from called and was able to get a hold of someone (amazing it didn't go straight to voicemail) and they were advised our item was on the truck and running about 20 minutes behind... It is now 8:15pm on Thursday and nothing has been delivered. I called earlier and someone was supposed to call me back and that never happened. No one is there past 5pm.

Advertising and offering 1 rate unchanging for unit contract duration, then handing a conflicting contract that allows rate increases for customer to sign. Extreme rate increases follow. 2. Advertising secure storage which is not accurate. My unit was easily broken into from the neighboring unit due to flimsy plasterboard as only separation, easily taken down from within neighboring unit. 3. Worse than poor customer service. And frequently changing employees unwilling or unable to handle big or small issues. 4. Dirty facilities and eroding facility makes storage items dirty and debris ridden. 5. Unbelievable rip off and frustrating experience overall. Beyond low standards for business performance.

We had items stollen from this facility and were told that they had caught someone and we could check back in about 5 months, and we should be able to see if our items were in this other unit. When we came to ask about it we were told it had already been done and none of our items were in there. When we first told the front desk person she didn't even file a claim. We came back about 3 weeks after the complaint to add more items and she couldn't even find the sheet. Finally found it on her desk. They lie about the cameras. Don't trust them if you see them, they don't work. We purchased insurance through them but were told that they couldn't find any evidence of a break in and wouldn't cover it. We lost over $1200 worth of items. The company was called something else when we first rented the unit. (Don't remember their name.) But the same lady was working the front desk for both companies. We moved our items out as quickly as possible and will never use them or recommend them to anyone. -0 rating for you.

The lady I spoke with was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Called for pickup and they came out and picked it up almost immediately and did it so quietly I didn't know they had arrived! Got a call within a couple of hours telling me the additional fee ($25 for mattress) and were extremely polite and helpful. If YOU need a dumpster, or any of their other services, call them! DO NOT STORE TRAILERS HERE! THEY ARE NOT SAFE. Mine was secured with chain and the best hitch coupler lock you can buy and IT WAS STILL STOLEN. I wouldn't store any property that cannot be stored inside and even that's an iffy proposition according to the news lately. read more
