My mother-in-law had surgery, so my wife and I are here for Thanksgiving. Her brother graciously ordered a Thanksgiving meal for us from Publix: my wife chose the ham, marshmallow, delight, dressing, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and rolls . Ordering and picked up or easy, except the store didn't include the ham glaze. The note to pick it up was underneath the price tag on the ham so my wife didn't see it. Preparation was well thought out by Publix - each of the dishes took about an hour to cook at the same temperature, allowing one of them to be used for everything. Looking back, I would modify the dressing and sweet potato casserole, to make them less runny. Ham - excellent flavor, and very tender. I can't comment on the glaze (see above). We ended up making our own, since Publix was closed on thanksgiving day (I support that). Dressing - it came out very runny, so I would either increase the temperature a bit or cook it uncovered longer. I was surprised that gravy wasn't included with it, but then again, I've never heard of ham gravy for Thanksgiving (yea, I've made Red Eye Gravy, but that's another meal and ham). Sweet potato casserole - way, way, way too sweet and runny. It was more like a soup. The "topping quote was added just as a glob to the casserole. We scooped it out after tasting it. blah. Green bean casserole - I really liked that. The green beans weren't mush. They were crisp and flavorful. Marshmallow delight - I can't give you any feedback because I wasn't going near it with a 10 foot pole. lol. Rolls - I was expecting Mrs. Schuberth type rolls. These were somewhat hard and crusty. Overall, it was a good experience and meal. We have tons of leftovers, so come on over. read more

Large fresh fruit n veggies to choose from, deli that makes huge subs and subs in tubs, rotisserie chicken large enough to feed a family of 4, a seafood counter that STEAMS your crab legs for you, etc! After our workday, me and my boyfriend decided to pick up subs from the Publix deli. I can't remember who waited on us, but he was the nicest gentleman ever we came about 40 minutes before they were closing and we were running into them while they were trying to close things down, but he still had a smile on his face and made us some amazing sandwiches and was so sweet and kind and had great customer service. Overall wonderful experience and highly recommend this Publix to anyone else. read more

I ordered a fully cooked turkey for thanksgiving. Got home and found out I need to warm my fully cooked turkey for 2 1/2 hours at 325. This is not the definition of fully cooked. Never again will I trust Publix. Don't have this problem at Harris Teeter!!! read more

I sometimes test employees when walking in there to see if they know where particular items are and they will walk me to that particular item each and every time. So Gastonia has come up in the world to have a publix!! This new store is wonderful to have here. It is as good as the other publix. Newly opened and well stocked ( in the old Lowe's) They have the bakery, sub and deli section, sushi, meat, dairy, and wine. Lots of wine The produce is fresh and plentiful 4 hot soups, pre made salads,and a good selection of cheese. You can find the sales online to plan ahead. Very helpful staff. I love this store. It's a forty minute drive from where I live, but I'll happily go there when I can. I have twin boys, so double seated carts are already a huge plus - but beyond that, this store ALWAYS goes the extra mile to make shopping easier on me. Everyone is friendly, they help me unload my groceries, bag my groceries, and often even offer to help me take them to the car. They also took the cart back for me so I wouldn't have to leave my kids in their car seats to go to the cart return. Which isn't a long walk, but still a wonderful gesture. The employee that helped me even voluntarily took my toddlers trash to throw it away for me. They always acknowledge my boys and give them stickers to cheer them up. Also amazing products for someone on a restricted diet like I am. Lots of fresh foods. Love this place! read more

I am 50 years old and have been shopping at Publix nearly every day for a little under a year. I look my age. I visited the store again tonight for a few items and was carded for the first time for purchasing some alcohol. I asked to speak to the manager as to why I have never been carded before tonight. Lauren, the manager on duty, was incredibly unhelpful and proceeded to tell me that if a person looks under 35, you get carded!! So I proceeded to ask what does "35" look like? She didn't respond. She did nothing to correct the behavior of her subordinate staff member. Am alarmed that a place such as Publix would employ such a ridiculous policy. Age Discrimination?! read more

This is my preferred grocery in Gastonia. The selection of fresh breads (made daily in the store) is excellent. The produce is fresh and abundant, the meats fresh and of high quality. Weekly specials are real values.The store is always clean and well stocked, food samples are offered daily, and there are cooking demonstrations with samples. Employees are very well trained - friendly and helpful. If asked the location of an item, they will literally take you to it. Baggers never fail to ask if you'd like help taking groceries to the car. My nephew loves the tiny children's shopping carts, and employees are very kind to him. This is a beautiful store - wish I lived closer to it. read more

The checkout lines rarely if ever have a single cashier. There are usually 3-4 employees congregating around the customer service desk, but it is too far over to have a line of sight to the registers to see if anyone needs assistance. Cashiers immediately sign out of their registers and dash away from the checkout area when they finish with a customer, leaving the registers abandoned. One cashier routinely wears tattered wrist braces and insists customers not stack items because she cannot lift or slide them off of one another; the items were paper-light in weight... The self-checkout lines have frequent system errors, freeze, and require customers to start over at another station (staff members laugh and joke with one another when this happens, but they do not open a functioning register.) After waiting for assistance while 5 staff members stood around watching, a manager dismissively told a customer to start over at another register. It froze too. Customer service would be greatly improved by stationing cashiers at registers. Once stationed, cashiers would best serve customers by remaining available between customers. 0 cashiers is not an acceptable number of cashiers. Cashiers are most valuable when capable of performing the physical functions their positions require. Cashiers and baggers are the face of the store, polite manners by cashiers are optimal. Self-checkout is for very few items, not cart loads and certainly is not an acceptable alternative to performing cashier functions when staff are available and able. This is a brand that values it's customers and encourages it's employees to offer friendly assistance, but this store location is not embracing the spirit behind those actions. read more

What the friendly funk is this place?!? It's like grocery Narnia!!! I walk in and I'm like greeted by smiling people all who seem happy to be there. The staff must be taken care of b/c I've gone here often and the service is always amazing. Nice people, good selection, my kinda place! The bakery- Holy heck my inner fat girl was ecstatic!! All fresh baked sinfully delicious treats, and breads. Veggies, Fruit- great selection, all fresh, organic selection is off the chain!! There is a small section where they give you recipes to cook. They take the guess work right out too. They have all the ingredients in a cooler, recipe card. It's fabulous!! We have utilized this a lot since they opened. The meats and seafood are great too. The grocery and freezer area has lots of organic selections which I appreciate. The beer and wine.... Oh my booze it's wonderful!! The check out lines move pretty fast. The prices are pretty average too. Organic food here seems like it's better priced. They also have a lot of speciality items. Disgusting service here at this publix. I usually come to this publix to do my grocery shopping but don't think I will be returning. A man named Steve that works in the meat department was very rude and not willing to help my mother and I. We asked if they had a certain type of beef that we ALWAYS get from this publix. We had asked if they had any prepared or if they could prepare it for us to pick up tomorrow morning. The worker named Steve gave us dirty looks and rude body language just because he didn't know what we were talking about and continually shrugged his shoulders and threw his hands up like he had better things to do. He didn't bother to help figure what we needed and I'm very upset he treated my mother this way. There was a another man that he asked if he knew what we were asking for but he said no then turned away to continue his work. Disgusting that these employees choose to treat their customers this way and I will not be grocery shopping here anymore and I don't recommend anyone else to either. read more

Not the standard Publix. I have frequented this Publix in the last few months and while the service was initially incredible as per Publix standard, the service has gone downhill significantly in the last month. The line at register was significantly long as there was only one line open, other than the self checkout. I bagged my own groceries to speed up the process, and not once did the manager who was directing traffic between the one register and the self checkout line (in addition to the staff member that was already watching self checkout lines) offer to bag the groceries for me. The same manager did have time to stop me as my child was running out the door on our way out and ask me were I got my sons shirt and proceed to tell me all about her nephews birthday party and what she's going to get him. The cashiers aren't friendly and barely speak, and the last 4 times I have been, I have not been offered assistance to my vehicle, which was actually much needed. Having 3 children in tow, this is a big reason I visit Publix is because of the assistance and the organization of the the store. The variety is lacking at this location as well and there is no salad bar, as there is at other locations. I also ordered a cake from this location recently and when I called to check if I could possibly pick it up an hour earlier, I received a detailed lecture on why I shouldn't expect it earlier than the time I put down for pick up, then was told "but I can check and see if it is ready if you want me to." This location is definitely below par for Publix and a huge disappointment. read more

Every time I have visited the store I have had a great experience. I just went yesterday to do a little shopping and all of the employees were very pleasant and seemed like they were genuinely happy to assist me. All of them were smiling and had positive body language. I've never been to a mess or disorganized Publix and this one is no different. The prices tend to be a little high, in my opinion, at Publix, but it's worth it. They do have some pretty decent sales. I feel like when I want to be able to shop in peace and feel like the employees enjoy being at work, then I'll shop at this store. read more
