I found this place on accident here in Charlotte, but I have been to other locations. I didn't buy anything this time, but I wanted to go in and walk around and check this location out because this is my new local location. I stopped in to remind myself of what they sold. They sell a wide range of items in bulk or large sizes, including spices and kitchenware. I didn't need anything in particular and left with a couple of items after perusing the store. My most awesome find was a frozen sweet potato pie. It took longer to cook than recommended, and the end result was an authentic pie that I enjoyed tremendously! read more

Your customer service! Manager K. was very rude to me. He laid my money down on the counter when giving me my change back. He didn't count it in my hand and when I said, " you all don't count the change back to the customers? " He said to me, "Really ". I told him that was a disrespect and very degrading and offensive to slide money to the customer, (especially when you put the money in their hands.) When I said that, he grabbed the money up and threw it in my hand. I said then, this is only my second time here and you are one of the rudest managers I've ever seen. I then told him I was going to call corporate to report him. He said, " do it" as if he was untouchable and would not be fired or reprimanded. I said all the company has to do is run the cameras back. He pointed up and said, " it's one right over the register. I was recommended to this company because I need items in bulk. After this horrible experience, I do not, will not spend any more money with them, nor will I recommend them to anyone else. I will redirect them to Restaurant Depot where the sales associate are much nicer and to top it all off, they service you with a smile. I feel if he disrespected me, it's no telling how many other people they have treated that way. It is truly the principal of the matter. This is 2026 and it is certainly time for hatred and discrimination to end. I grew up on the motto." Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." In this case the manager should not be the manager of no store, anywhere. All I am saying is, if you know your self-worth then regardless of what anyone says or does to you, you will be able to just smile and litterly walk away, just like I did never to return, that way they will certainly learn from their own mistake. Then you too can write a review to save someone else from being humiliated in front of the other customers like I was. I was very hurt and couldn't believe it happened to me. When I'm in a pinch this is always plan B. Restaurant Depot is my first option. CHEF'STORE is smaller but they have a good selection of meats and produce. You're not going to find high end disposables, just the stuff to get you through until your order comes in. Steam table selection is a little off, might be a house brand. Here's my grocery list for the chef store that saves buckoo bucks, compared to grocery store pricing. 1. Large Black Peppercorns 2. Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce 3. Restaurant Tub of Duke's Mayo 4. Heinz Ketchup 5. Gulden's Mustard 6. French's Mustard 7. Heinz 57 8. Capers 9. 20lb Jasmine Rice All the condiments I buy in large containers and fill my own plastic, squirt bottles at home, I call it doing my sidework. (restaurant lingo) They also have restaurant plastic containers, all sizes with lids, I prefer these for storage and leftovers. They also make great gifts. People love restaurant stuff! I also buy plastic gloves by the case, I use them for cooking, cleaning, dying my hair. Now with Covid, pumping gas. I love the plastic, white cutting boards too. Don't buy one too big, make sure it fits in your sink. Now that I realize how much I buy in bulk, I actually love buying in bulk it's the large box stores that I do not enjoy. But the Chef Store is very manageable. They do check receipts going out the door, that drives me crazy, because you see I just bought it, they are standing right there. Such a waste of time. Bad service. Mismarked boxes. Bought pecan halves there the other day. Opened the box and found pieces. Checked the labels to make sure it wasn't my error. Returned to store found all the boxes were mislabeled. Time spent driving and discussing well over 2 hours. The mgr offered no remedy just "sorry." Question: Do they really give a damn about quality and service? Answer: Absolutely not. I don't want unreliability like this when trying to build my biz. I love a good deal. I love buying in bulk. Just ask my memberships to Costco and Sam's club. What I love about this place is that it is never crowded, it is always well stocked and while not everything is priced better than your standard grocery store they do have the option to buy meat/cheese in bulk which is a lot cheaper than most other stores. They also have a very wide variety of frozen food that they sell to restaurants and stores, so you never know you might find your favorite side item here. They carry everything from food, cleaning and cooking supplies. read more

O my! I didn't get a basket on purpose, but I still came out with my hands full. There are tons of bulk restaurant foods, but I still couldn't get my Simplot Exotic Rice! Other than that, I'm excited to have this store here! It reminds of the old Tobacco USA in Greensboro, but with food! The prices seem to be very reasonable, though if you're not a comparison shopper, you could end up overpaying on some stuff. A great place to restaurant supplies and food in bulk. I'm a fan. You can get pretty much everything you would need to feed an army here. Although, some things are a lot better deals than others. As you walk in, you see 50lb bags of onions, thats a lot of onions, all I could think of is a HUGE pot of french onion soup. You then walk over to the right to see a bunch of freezers and a meat cooler. All the fresh meat looks great and you can get pork shoulder for SUPER cheap. The chicken and beef don't seem to be discounted quite as much. Once you start peeking into the freezers, you start to realize how easily some restaurants cheat. Pre-made frozen crab cakes, full on frozen soup(BOOO!!!), and even pre-breaded coconut shrimp. Also, you can find king crab legs, lobster tails, and other great seafood items. Some with a good discount for the bulk amount, some not. I'm definitely buying a side of smoked salmon next time I visit. The veggie cooler at the end of this isle is pretty awesome. Shiitakes, 3LBs for $15!? Tub's of ken's salad dressings and all kinds of other veggies. The spice containers are huge and a great deal, although I'm sure most would go stale before you used them all unless you went in with friends. The next couple aisles are more or less just condiments and some specialty Chinese items. Once you get to the last aisle there is some serious restaurant equipment. Those plastic tubs are great for brining meat. All in all, it would be a great place to start if you are planning a big cookout or throw in with friends on food. Not everything is cheaper than normal grocery stores, but most is. read more

As a chef and restaurant owner I love this place , while I can't get everything here it is one of my main sources for veggies, dairy & always a smile from the staff when I need it. This store is always expanding, the help will always go out of their way to help, is always happy to be there , I have asked them to add special items for me that I can only get from Restaurant Depot ( terrible place but that is another review) and they do. James & Swansee and the rest of the front end staff, always smiling. I canc all have them pull what I need and have it ready for an employee to pick up. The manager is always ready to help and really a pleasure to shop there. Great prices on bulk foods! They sell meats, dry foods, produce and restaurant supplies. Everything looked fresh and the store was very neat and organized. I would gladly come back here if I needed large quantities of dairy products. Prices were fantastic compared to grocery stores. Being a member of KCBS, I get free day-passes over to Restaurant Depot. It has been my standard-bearer as far as availability of restaurant-grade food and equipment. The only drawback is that RD is on the complete opposite end of town from me. So when I found out that there was a US Foods CHEFSTORE closer by to me, I had to check it out! The big upside is that there is no membership required to go here. Produce selection appears to be about in-line with that at RD, as does the selection of other large-quantity items. While most of the meat selection here is about in line with RD, there just didn't seem to be as much of a selection or as good of a quality. For those who are avid BBQ cooks, the pork butt and brisket selection should suffice. I did not check out the poultry, so I can't offer up anything there. If I want good, non-BBQ meat (like a whole ribeye or stuff for grinding meat), I'll probably go to RD. Otherwise US Foods CHEFSTORE is an acceptable choice. read more

Interesting to see the place many restaurants shop. It was very enlightening. We price compared things here against our normal buys and on a per pound basis we only found one food item that was significantly less here- bacon. Not a bad place overall. I can not see us adding this to our normal rotation of stores we frequent, but we may stop by in the future and complete another cost comparison. We typically shop at SAMs, Walmart, and Aldi(very limited here). read more

For the longest time, I thought you needed a Costco type membership to buy here. You don't at all! It's just me and my husband so we rarely need bulk but a few exceptions are; a giant kitchen size Montreal seasoning (the secret to my guacamole), apples and other fruit for using in our juicer and most importantly, the three lb box of shiitake mushrooms. That's why I go. They open early and close early, you know, for the restaurant peeps. I wanted the shrooms Saturday but they had closed. I went Sunday and they forgot to order them then called Monday and they still didn't have them. So, they let me down last week but I'll check again soon. I can put a whole box down like someone else might a box of Thin Mints. Stems make great ramen broth but anyway... They also have bulk frozen items, even mochi ice cream and fish filets. They have restaurant supplies like whisks and aprons as well as giant "end of the world is near" cans of beans, etc. Good choice if you are having a large cookout or family reunion since they also have meat like ribs. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! The employees are wonderful!! James makes me laugh everytime I shop. He is always curious to see what I am making and the his eyes light up when I tell him. This is actually a pretty cool store. Now for me I don't shop here much because it's all in bulk. However I have learned meal planning for the week from my personal trainer and since I don't want to drive far ever to grocery shop (BJ's, Costco) this place is very convenient. They usually have great deals on meat like chicken breast. So if your a meal planner or like me, like to make all your meals for the week over the weekend, this is a good place to shop. read more

while i don't know that i would shop here on a regular basis, i think i will be here again to get some food to put into emergency food storage. there are some great deals on bulk items that have long shelf-life, and the wholesale store that i was hoping to get some of these items at is all the way in greensboro. this is much, much closer and cheaper. they also have some great kitchen items here that i might come back for, like pots and pans and even a butane stove-top. they were giving away these green bins to carry your food out, and i don't know if it was a limited time thing or an every time thing. but...i sort of love mine. great, great place to check out. read more

I have a little cafe' & stop in 4-5 times a week & am always greeted with a FRIENDLY hello from all ee's that I see. If I want something out of the ordinary I can ask anyone in there & they're always eager to help me find what I need. My wife & I enjoy going in & talking with the ee's , ask how they & their family is doing, when we bring in our little 5 yr. old that we have custody of he runs up to most of them & gives them hugs & calls them his girlfriends. We shop at the Restaurant Depot sometimes, but it's not nearly as clean & organized as the Chef Store. We will continue to do the majority of our shopping there as long as we have our Cafe' & they are open. read more
