Completely different from the other four letter supermarket chain, Lidl is full service grocery. You don't need a quarter to borrow a shopping trolley and they have a full service supermarket. Much nicer, maybe a little bit more expensive. Produce shop today was excellent and I found everything I needed including fresh cilantro and avocados that are just about soft enough for breakfast tomorrow. Great stuff in the cold bunkers. The salmon will be dinner tomorrow. All sort of other great stuff that was on the list and several things that were not on the shopping list. Good shop today! I like Lidl with their wide variety of foods and other merchandise. The place is clean. Prices are more or less the same with Aldi. I just hope there's one close by the airport where I work and reasonable distance from my house. read more

I LOVE MY LIDL IN GASTONIA! This is not a store but an adventure! I love how they have a lidl book every season with ideas and recipes! They have an extensive selection of cheeses, European foods and good old American selections! The produce is wonderful! And they always have an assortment of non food items you never knew you needed! I love this store. I used to frequent this location while working in Gastonia, but have since accepted a job elsewhere. It is very refreshing when walking in because it is big, open, clean, and very inviting. The first thing you see when you walk in is the bakery! I don't eat baked goods due to allergies, but it was always nice to look at. They also offer samples! I love the prices of this store and also that they have Utz chips that are priced lower than Walmart or other grocery stores. They have fresh fruit and quality meats and seafood. I purchased salmon here and it was delicious! The only downfall is if the store doesn't have many associates working at certain times. The lines can become extremely long, making what you thought would be a 10 minutes max trip become a 20 minute trip. One of the coolest things I've ever experienced is that they announce out loud when another register/line is opening. I love that! read more

I noticed this location was placed in the immediate area of its German competitor, Aldi's. So, I'm assuming their mindset is kinda like "If you like Aldi's, you'll love Lidl", right? As an avid Aldi's shopper, I had instantly started drawing comparisons and differences between the two. I went to this store on a Sunday afternoon. The grocery crowd was moderately, but pleasantly, light. The building seems bigger and much more airy in than our local Aldi's...plenty of natural light, which I love. They have a bakery that sells your typical goods, such as pastries and various types of bread. You can even slice your own fresh loaf there! They carry the same types of items like Aldi's. But, they do cater to more adventurous palettes (Fish soup, anyone? What about baked snails? lol). The produce section is....um, okay...typical selection...I bought a bag Gala apples for 1.99 and while they weren't in bad shape, they were kinda tasteless. They carry various personal and household goods (clothes, shoes, tools, etc) just like Aldi's. However, their selection is much bigger than their competitor. They even had a miter saw for 99.00. The beer and wine is larger as well. You don't pay for cart usage, but you do have to bag your own groceries. I didn't see a big price difference, just more items in stock. It's not enough to completely draw me away from Aldi's. But, it's enough to have me peak in for items Aldi's might not carry. read more

I absolutely love Lidl. It is my go to place. Unless it's something i can't find there (coconut oil) i do the majority of my shopping here. The prices are awesome, the people are so nice and they have a great selection of organic products. Which is a HUGE plus. read more

Been shopping at Lidl for years - first in Shelby, NC, then the store closed and had to start going to Gastonia instead. First, advertised specials are rarely on hand. Meaning the products are not available, and I have to drive back - a 40-minute trip one way - to get what I wanted or forget about it. Went today, saw chicken thighs on sale so I got 2 packages. Got to the register and said thighs rang up DOUBLE the posted price, even though the original price was $1.95 per pound, they rang up at $3.29 and sale price was $1.79. The cashier was great, he understood my confusion and radioed someone to price-check the item... meanwhile my husband went back to the cooler and pulled the AD for $1.79. The assistant manager ended up coming up to the register and ok'd the reduction to the price on the package, but was less than gracious when we presented the AD from the cooler. Huffed an puffed about not knowing how to reduce the price on package. The cashier was awesome, stepped in and figured it out based on price per pound and pounds we purchased. Our total went from $64 and change to $40 and change because I stood my ground. A $24 difference for 2 packages of CHICKEN!! Hubby says this is our LAST trip to Lidl, we've had other issues before, but this was CRAZY to deal with! I love the chicken I get here, but it's not worth the drive nor the hassle any more. I was so glad to see Lidl arrived in Gastonia less than 1/2 mile from my home. We used to shop at Lidl when we lived in France and were already fans. The staff there is so friendly and the prices are unbeatable. The bakery items are just as good if not better than in Europe. My only bone of contention is that, lately, flyer items are never available or I'm told that they sold out within an hour of opening. Maybe the store isn't receiving enough stock. This has happened on multiple occasions and seems to be getting worse as more Lidl locations open around the surrounding area. I stop by consistently on my way in to work and on the ride home to see if flyer items have arrived, only to hear they didn't receive any, or sold out in an hour after putting out. The last few flyers have featured items that never came in. Of course, there's no rain checks. Store associates are always very apologetic, but it really does seem to be more and more frequent. The grand opening saw the store packed with a wide variety of items, but the selection is much smaller now. I am at the store at least 4-5 days a week and love shopping there, but it is very frustrating to see all these flyer items never available. read more

My husband and I have been shopping at this store twice a month for four months now, driving an hour and a half. We have never experienced a problem until today. We arrived about 9:15 and started shopping. We love the fresh breads, but the signage was horrible, only a few were tagged with what kind they were and we were sure the bread we purchased was not what was on the signage, which was hand written. After we sliced the bread, there were no ties to tie the bread with. On we went down the isle, picked up some cheese that had a sign that said 75 cents. Got some of the gallons of water that in one place said 59 cents and in another 79 cents. Got to the check out and the cheese rang up at $1.75. I asked the cashier why was it that price. She stated that was the weekend price! Then why was the signage still up?? I had to find a lady who was walking around with a clip board to speak to about it. She did refund my money on my card, but I felt it was such a big deal for her go out of her way to do it! I have a great idea....why don't they take the sale signage down at night, then it won't be such a problem for customers to pick up items thinking they are one price only to be charged more! read more
