2 of the 3 bulbs of garlic that I bought were moldy, I do not have time to check everything that I buy to see if it is good, I have very limited time due to my very ill grandfather that I cannot leave for very long at home. I am very disappointed in this establishment. They do not care about you people!!!! They just want your money!!! Being a native Floridian, publix has been my go to grocery store. They may not be the cheapest, bit they've always been the cleanest with the best service. They have a dedicated bakery, meat and seafood section, and deli. So outside of regular groceries, you can pick up snacks and meals. Pub subs are a must try as is the fried chicken. The seafood and meat area offer a good variety of options, and they cist9m cut things de0ending on your needs. There is also a pharmacy and a lotto area if those are on your grocery list. That said, they are not perfect. Like most stores they've implemented self checkout kiosks. It takes away from the service experience and overall service is not as good as it used to be. I personally think a part of that is the younger generations being pushed towards instant gratification with the use of newer technology. The cashiers and baggers sometimes just talk to each other and not to the customers. It could also be a training issue (I worked a few years at Publix). Either way, Publix is still one of my favorite grocery stores and is my go to. If you've not been to a Publix, try it out and start with a pub sub! read more

Huge fan of this Publix! I grew up in the area and have been shopping at this specific store since I was a teenager! I moved back to the area about a year ago so I've been visiting the store for the last 11ish months. Just last week I moved a bit north (closer to the Sunlake Publix) but I still go out of my way to return to the Van Dyke store. Their deli has massively improved since the previous reviews, including the hiring of a highly effective assistant manager. I love that they always have popcorn chicken waiting in the warming display so that I don't have to wait in a long line to get a quick box for my toddler. The bakery employees are so kind and always have a smiling face when they hand my toddler his complimentary cookie. I favor the organization/layout of this store and particularly like that this location has self check-out. The Sunlake store does NOT have self check-out, and neither does the location at North Dale Mabry in Carrollwood (by Walmart). The Van Dyke store is a little smaller than other stores, as others have noted, but the fact that they have ample spaces for efficient self checkout, several convenient cart return spots, AND an in-store pharmacy and seafood/meat service window, this Publix is more than acceptable to me. Everyone is super friendly which makes shopping so much more "a pleasure". read more

This rating is for the bakery department only. I wasn't going to leave a review but this is now the second time I've ordered a cake from this specific store and gotten a very very poor quality cake. In the photos I attached the green cake is from September of last year and the berry chantilly is from today. Both cakes were ordered over a week in advance and look like they were thrown together 5 minutes before pickup! When I picked up the chantilly cake today I couldn't tell how bad it was in the box so imagine my surprise when I opened it up later to see the sides! I'll be placing my cake orders at a different location from now on. read more

This is the publix i go to the most,it's on my way home. It's your typical publix layout and i know where everything is and just walk around looking for things that catch my eye. My buddy from high school is the meat manager and I definitely use that to get custom steak cuts, he told me where the fresh ground beef is and we catch up on what's been going on in our lives. The reason for the 4 stars is the annoying parking lot. It's located on the northwest corner of Van Dyke and Dale Mabry. When you decide to leave the plaza your only options are Southbound on Dale Mabry or Westbound on Van Dyke. Poor design or clever trap? You decide! read more

Publix is my preference for groceries. I also love the deli and bakery. I love the potato balls that they have and like to order the chicken ones since I'm not really a red meat eater. My most recent experience with this was less than satisfactory-- ordered chicken but guess what I got when I cut it open!? Beef!!! Ugh So disappointing. I think the issue is that the way they have these displayed the staff is not clear on what is what. And just play a guessing game when getting them when ordered. read more

We are never ordering platters from this Publix! This was the first time that I ordered a large sub sandwich, platter, and large fruit platter from this location. You could tell the quality and portion of the fruit and subs were less than the village center location. read more

Been shopping here since 2001 when we moved from NY. I know lots of the staff and have found them very helpful when you ask. The online ordering from the deli is a plus as is the introduction of e-reciepts. You can order any product that Publix sells from their wholesale dealer and have it shipped to you for free. The link is on the sign in page at the bottom. I have used this service to order Dr. Brown Cel-Ray soda and it works well.Since the store mgrs. change and the store gets rearranged to offer new items some you like are taken off the shelves but Publix offers this online order system for those. Any issue I have with this store has been resolved by the home office or the store. read more

This is the crappiest Publix the area. It's a very small store, so they cram the aisles full of displays. Don't bother trying to find that perfect card, because they only have a small selection. As for merchandise, if it's hard to find, this store definitely won't have it. Their too oft repeated line is,"The truck will be here in a couple of days." I avoid this store and go to the large one at Citrus Park. Even though it's not the closest, at least I can push my cart around there without bumping into aisle displays. read more

I'm a Publix loyalist. In the Army, I was stationed in New York and paid an outrageous amount of money for groceries. Returning to Florida, I was so excited to have Publix again! So, I guess I can see how people may say the groceries are expensive but I'm a true believer in paying for an experience. I truly don't believe that the groceries are overpriced but I completely understand raising a family and sticking to a budget. As a mom of three boys, my grocery budget seems like it's always busting through the roof. Personally, to get the best deals I mix it up between Publix and Sprouts. The produce at this location leaves a lot to be desired. There's just not many options. You get the basics-- green beans, tomatoes, onions but don't expect to find a variety of brussel sprouts or anything a little more unique. Also, the prices on produce are never much of a deal. Strawberries are almost always around $5. That's quite a bit considering we're in Florida. You can always find a good deal on meat. I actually only really buy meat when it's on sale whether that's at Publix or elsewhere. Publix often has ribeyes on sale for around $8/pound or chicken breast buy one get one free. Pay attention to the ads and visit websites like "I Heart Publix" to find the best deals and coupon matchups. Publix also offers digital coupons and digital receipts. Just load up your coupons online and enter your phone number at checkout. Entering your phone number also ensures you'll be able to access a digital receipt. Pretty cool! I find a lot of expired dairy at this location. Yogurt that's 5 or more days expired or on a good day, milk that expires tomorrow although I've seen expired milk there also. I don't envy the person that has to keep track of all the dates in the dairy section, but there's definitely room for improvement here. Okay, back to the Publix experience-- the store is clean. The staff is nice and charming. There's a Redbox and an ATM out front. The parking lot is never just completely littered with carts. You can tell Publix carries a strong SOP and they follow it to a T. As a mom who either pretends trips to the grocery store are mini vacations or is just trying to to survive the trip with three kids, I really appreciate the stellar customer service and atmosphere. If Publix isn't your cup of tea, no worries. But those of us who have grown up going to Publix, grabbing a free cookie or balloon, I guess we are loyalists. I dabble at a few other stores for their produce or a good sale but I always return to Publix for the staples or simply on a day I won't settle for anything less than the best customer service and a clean, inviting atmosphere. read more

My usual Publix is at Citrus Park but I have come here a couple times. They actually have a few items I haven't seen at the other location, however, I was disappointed with my last visit. I bought 1 1/2 lbs of cod we had to throw away as it was old (slimy and smelled bad). I bought two containers of strawberries that I had to throw out as they were the worst strawberries I've ever had. The texture was bizarre (frozen and thawed?) and I bought a huge container of arugula that had a lot of old yellowed tipped pieces. Maybe I caught them At a bad time (Sunday)? Don't even bother placing an online order at the deli. Slowest workers & understaffed for the amount of customers that come to the counter. Had to wait past the original time my online order was supposed to be ready to actually get it. And, the order was wrong. Ridiculous! read more

Publix Super Markets are generally a fantastic place to go for groceries. Their store brand products are generally better than namebrand ( just try their ice cream or deli meats). The service is second to none, if you walk in with a question anyone will help you out( literally stop what they are doing and help). This Publix is no exception to that rule. It has a friendly staff and is bright and clean ( especially the restrooms). The key part of any Publix is their deli. I love Publix subs. The people working the deli are patient and kind... I'll one up that... they're artists. I have had them make amazing Dagwood style subs for me with just about everything but the kitchen sink on them, and then say " oh I almost forgot- load it with Parmesan cheese and oregano. "Two minutes later, I'm smiling and the sub looks like a small blizzard has occurred on top. The guy behind the counter goes... "wow...I need to try this!" Every time the sandwiches get better... so does the service. Publix is simply the best! read more

On my last visit, I asked the assistant store manager a question and after he made an excuse he made a remark about my work, although I've never worked for him. Not as new and shiny as some Publix stores, but they have BELLS STUFFING!!! My fiancee's mother looked all over for this stuff and eventually gave up and ordered it before Christmas. We went shopping here on New Years Eve because Super Target did not have everything we need, and because I refuse to purchase meat at Target, I only trust the meat at Publix. We called her mom from the store and sang hallelujah into the phone. No more ordering this stuff online. We are going to have to fill a small closet with the stuffing, it is the right stuff, the BOMB STUFFING!!!! So as as I mentioned above, not the newest and shiniest, but still clean and a really REALLY good selection of groceries. It was New Years Eve and very crowded. I did not try our the sub line or the deli line. The regular check out did go pretty fast. Again I need to complain about the parking lot. Because of the new hospital next door, it took FOREVER to finally to a left hand turn around. All the gaps in the median on Van Dyke say no left turn. They need to fix that somehow. Such an annoying parking fiasco may have dropped the rating the 3 stars, but we were so freaking excited about finding Bells Stuffing that we had to keep it at 4. read more

Absolutely love this Publix, I frequent this store a lot on the way to work. They have a decent grab & go selection. I know this more or less applies to all Publix locations but their online ordering is also a great convenience. I will say though that their 8 piece fried chicken is crap, other than that though, no complaints. read more

Having been in the customer service field for over 20 years I notice both good and bad service. Here it's been nothing but the best. Employees in every department are always willing to help and are very friendly and courteous. Their BOGO deals really help save money and having someone actually help you to your car with your groceries is the icing on the cake. My review is mostly for the Deli.. i've ordered a sub online plenty of times now and every single time i've had to wait at least 15 minutes after the time it was suppose to be done. As well as they have ignored my extra comments, or forgotten to put something on the sandwich. It's very frustrating to wait extra, then to get home and it not even be correct. Once they even gave me a whole different sandwich than i ordered, even tho the sticker clearly said it was mine and the sandwich i had ordered. I gave two stars for every other part of this publix because they usually are pretty helpful. But the deli has turned me away big time. I understand a mistake once, maybe even twice, it happens. But not every single time. They should pay better attention, or i should learn to stop ordering online i suppose. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with Publix. I grew up near one which was very pretentious and even had a special line for families with train-shaped carts!!! This review isn't for this particular location, I'm assuming every publix gives the same amount, as far as the Deli department. Although I do feel like my boars head sandwiches I've eaten in the past had more meat then the sandwich that was made for me today. I've been shopping at Publix since I can remember. I prefer their subs over subway anyday. But after today I'm not so sure. I ordered a half ultimate boars head, I got the combo so I paid nearly $8 for a bag of chips the sub and a drink. I got my sandwich and opened it up and there was honestly maybe 3 pieces of meat. MAYBE 4 at the most. I'm not the type of person to go back and say something. But the amount of meat that was on my sandwich, blew my mind and I had to. So I went in and told the women nicely that I wasn't trying to be rude but "is this really how much meat comes on the sandwich" and she responded with yes, it's a kids something, I stopped listening at that point and was so annoyed. I walked to my co-employees and showed them and then another women yelled over and wanted to fix my sandwich. At that point I was pissed and didn't even want to bother. So, moral of the story. Don't pay for boars head! They rip you off! They seem to give double the amount of meat when you pick Publix meat. Not sure if it's just me but their meat dept doesn't have the selection some of the others have. Try finding ground chuck already packaged and ready. Or some decent prepackaged steaks? It doesn't exist at this particular Publix. I don't always have time to wait in line for the butcher. Now I just go to super Walmart north of Lutz Lake Fern which actually has an excellent selection, which really surprised me, and it's of great quality. Totally blew my mind. prices are much better too. Sorry Publix. I grew up shopping there but you really need to step up your game. read more

I love Publix, but am disappointed consistently by this location. It's small and they are ALWAYS out of staples like bananas, coffee, and certain breads. I even have difficulty finding green wise meats on display and often have to ask for them for assistance (which can be slow). Hope they get better at stocking or open a bigger location nearby. This location is also challenging to leave, and go north bound on dale mabry. read more

I have been coming to this Publix for over 15 years. I will NOT be coming back. There is a cashier here - an older gentleman with about shoulder length Grey hair. This guy is a complete jerk. He accused me of forging rain checks for a sale before checking with the office for them to verify the store had actually written and given those to me. This is the most organized and clean Publix I have ever been to. The produce is always fresh and never have to worry about it turning bad after a couple of days because they are always inspecting what they have. The seafood is delicious, and prefer buying at least a pound of their salmon every week. The staff is always friendly and willing to help you find anything you need, they have even specially ordered specific items they do not normally carry in store at no extra charge. The deli is full of happy workers. I am always excited about ordering their delicious subs and they sometimes recommend new products that they are carrying to go along with my purchase. I mentioned to a worker in the meat section that I cannot seem to perfect cooking a medium-rare steak. He took the time to tell me how to cook it, and even brought me down the kitchen aisle to get me a thermometer to use in making sure it is the perfect temperature inside! read more
