Two stars for the space- it's fine. Basically a wooden box inside a warehouse. It's loud, and hot... not sound-proofed, but if you're plugged in or playing drums it's fine because you'll drown out noise from the other bands. There is no wifi, no heat or a/c, dirty bathrooms with nothing to dry your hands with, a very no frills practice space. No stars for the owner "Nic Puddletown" real name Nicholas Yannariello- he changed the room I had reserved at the last minute saying that the person renting the room before me decided to stay, so if I wanted to rent a room I'd have to settle for another one. Fine. I'm flexible. The real headaches came when I gave my notice to move out- Nic started texting me incessantly and trying to pressure me to move out well before the end of the month that I'd paid in full for. Texting me late at night (after 9pm) and early in the morning (before 8am on a Sunday!) multiple times even though I had already communicated my move out timeframe. Not worth getting harassed by this greedy landlord when I've forked over hundreds of dollars a month for a tiny box in a hot warehouse. I'd recommend finding another place to rent from. read more

Was at Nw Portland on Nicolai and moved to Killingsworth. No sound proofing more expensive than most other rehearsal places. Save your money find another place. Moving at end of month can't wait!!! read more

I share a space with a few others at the location on Powell. This is the only rehearsal space I have ever rented so don't have much to compare it to but I have not been very happy with Puddletown. Apparently the rent is reasonable compared with other places in town but you don't get much for your money. The place has zero insulation so you are freezing in the winter and sweating in the summer and are competing to hear yourself over your neighbors. My main complaint is that the bathrooms are DISGUSTING so much so that you can smell the piss from down the hallway. There is rarely soap or toilet paper and never paper towels, the door doesn't lock etc...it's unacceptable. Our rent just got raised and I'm continually confused as to what our money is paying for considering the place is less than bare bones. read more

I've been renting a space for awhile at Puddletown, probably about 2 years overall. I started off at Puddletown closer to the river and now I'm at the location off 6th and Divison. Each building is quite different and each has its pros and cons, different from each other. Closer to river location: PROS - Easy access, more parking at certain times. Note that this parking lot is shared with other businesses and therefore availability changes depending on time of day. Better sound proofing between rooms. More straightfoward, grid-type layout makes it easier to load in and out gear. CONS - Temperature. On a hot summer day, better to take a pass on playing in one of these rooms. Even with a couple fans, it's nearly unbearable once you have been playing awhile. Less available parking when other businesses have the spots occupied. 6th and Division location: PROS: Somewhat easy access. More street parking but less dedicated parking spots for the studio. This makes it a pain if you don't get a closer spot to load gear. Better climate control. Doesn't seem to get as ridiculously hot or cold although I haven't been in the extreme temps like I had in the other location, so we have yet to see. CONS: Sounds proofing sucks. Even with sound board up in our room, we can CLEARLY hear our neighbors. At the river location, it was much more muffled. I suppose there is better ventilation in this building but it comes at a cost. The layout of the hallways in the building makes loading gear more annoying if your room is at the back. Lot of turns makes it more like a maze which sucks with amp cabs and drum gear. Also, if you aren't able to get a load in spot close to the front, you're loading your gear across a street. Not the worst but eh... When I first started playing at Puddetown, we were sharing the room with two other bands. They only accept payment by cash which means you're relying on the responsibility of other bands to be prompt with payments. It would be nice if they had a way to do electronic payments individually. I feel more of the bands would get their rent in on time as this is what people are accustomed to these days. Also if you're not practicing that week or you're out of town, it would allow someone to make a payment from afar or even auto-deduct. For what these studios charge monthly, it shouldn't be too difficult for them to offer a feature like this. You're pretty much stuck driving down there and "slipping your cash under the door." As of right now it's the best I've been able to find. If someone knows of other places that can offer as good or better, spread the word! read more

I have rented at most of the available rehearsal studios near the downtown core, and been in and seen the ones that aren't close as well. Puddletown is my tops, and I currently rent a room there and have for a couple years now. 1. Nic who runs puddletown keeps things decent. Hallways are clean, light bulbs changes, bathrooms are kept up, things are fixed when they break. I have had problems with building maintenance at several places. When water leaks through the roof onto your gear, it's painful. When you fall down the stairs because there is no light when loading in at 2:30 AM after a gig, it sucks. 2. No stairs to load gear up and down. All the puddle town spaces allow load in/out without stairs. This is key. 3. Reasonably prices, rates are competitive. 4. 24 hour access, no restrictions. Yes, these rooms are "sealed" to keep bleed down, no ventilation. It's the trade off of isolation vs airflow. Yes the isolation is not going to stop the technical death metal band in the next room from being heard, but if you play amplified, once you start playing, it's not a big deal. I will upload a picture of our room, which we treated acoustically and hung fabric over the walls for a better look. If someone finds a better place close to downtown for rehearsal spaces, please let me know. read more

Decent prices for monthly 13'x10' rehearsal space. The spaces are poorly ventilated and somewhat unbearable in hot weather, but otherwise comfortable for a typical 4-piece band to set up and power up. You'll hear your neighbors a bit between songs, but not so much as to lose focus as you play. Bathroom, vending machine, wi-fi, and many secondary services available to renters either on-site or through partnerships/discounts. read more
