Now this was a bit more of my standard for Puerto Rican food. The selections were aplenty and the place was bustling with people in and out. They specialize in PR sandwiches on Pan de Agua bread so they didn't have any Pan Sobao which was frustrating at first. I then gazed over at the fritura that they had and to my delight they had fresh alcapurrias and empanadas! They were absolutely delicious and made with fresh ingredients. They had plenty of sweet bakery items too. Service was brisk but very friendly. People come here seriously determined to get their food and the they are out! First of all I love any type of authentic food. This place always has a line going into establishment. I pass this restaurant on my way going and leaving work. I promised myself that I was going to try it when it's not so busy! Well folks, today was the day about 1:30. All I really wanted was the yellow rice and pigeon peas. Once in I was surprised at the array of offering from dessert to hot food line and sandwiches. I ordered my rice and peas and 1 chicken wing. The wing was hot and crispy and a nice size. I only ordered one because I wasn't sure if I would like it! Well before I got out of the parking lot I had devoured the chicken wing. Absolutely delicious. Once I got back to work I tried the rice and peas and that too was well seasoned and delicious. Portion size was comparable to price. I can't wait to go back. As places go in the Springfield area you definitely got quite a selection of spots for Puerto Rican food and such (also the fact that a high number of people who like in the area were once from Puerto Rico) and today I had delivered my bit from this spot and why the stars. I ordered a BBQ ribs with Spanish rice and a side of red beans and also potatoes (photo coming) and the food was tasty and such I didn't even need to put my own seasoning on it. Ribs man they pretty much just wanted to fall off the bones and also the sauce was very good as well & I did a little mix into the rice (and also the red beans I'll also add) and sense if you got a taste for even say octopus don't worry because yes they got that (shows that isn't only for sushi). Holy cow is this place good. Located in Springfield, Puerto Rican Bakery & Restaurant is a spot where you can either have takeout or eat in the restaurant. The parking lot is very tight, so during busier times it could be difficult to get a spot. On my visits, the service has always been great. The folks behind the counter are very friendly, even when busy. The food is the star, though. The pork shoulder is cooked perfectly with great flavor. I've had both the rice and beans and rice with pigeon peas, and both are excellent sides to have with a meal. In terms of the fried options, the alcapurrias and potato balls are my favorites. Additionally, if you're a fan of monfongo, this place has an excellent one. Overall, I'd highly recommend this spot and it's worth the drive if you're north of Hartford or anywhere close to Springfield. read more

I would come here over and over and over again, no problem. Their empanada's were plump full of meat and delicious! The breakfast sandwich that included, ham, egg, and cheese was toasted perfect and a steal for $5, three of us ate from it, it was that big. It would be good if they had something more than just regular coffee though, I really missed having a foamy cafe con leche with my breakfast, but the coffee was still really good, nice and strong, can't wait to be back in the area, I'll be here again for breakfast! read more

Went to their II location. Amazing food. Some of the best beef empanadas I have eaten. Papa rellenos were excellent. Sweet pastries were as good as I have had anywhere. Will always have a special place in my heart because this was first place I introduced my son to empanadas and papa rellenos. Stopped here on a whim as we were driving by. Super cheap, pretty confusing to order (3 multiple lines, poor labeling of premade items). Food: Got a large tripleta sandwich, a fried mashed beef potato ball, shrimp empanada, and some dessert pastries. My wife was a huge fan of the pastries, especially the ones with guava filling. I'm more of a savory guy myself so the tripleta and the fried potato ball didn't disappoint. Super huge sandwich loaded down with meat , and delicious fresh bread. Not a fan of the empanda, the dough was good but the filling wasn't my favorite, probably try a chicken empanada next time. Definitely saw plenty of things I intend on trying next time. Ambiance/staff: With these prices I wouldn't care if they had a dirt floor. Pretty sparse interior wise, kind of reminded me of a fast food joint from the 90s. Clean, just very sparse. The staff were nice enough to let us know what various items were that they offered since many items aren't labeled. Definitely a local ethnic favorite, a very diverse mix of culture which normally means you found a gem in my experience. Bottom line: Crazy cheap prices for the quantity and quality of food they offer. Definitely give this place a shot. read more

For authentic Puerto Rican food this is a great location. They have a wide selection from fritura (fried items) like pastelillos, relleno de papa, to arroz, habichuelas, chuletas, bistec con cebolla, yuca, guineo, pernil, etc. and the staff works the line quickly and efficiently. They give generous portions at unbeatable prices. If you ever wanted to try Puerto Rican food and are in the area - come here. The one thing to warn is that it was crowded when I went and the parking lot is extremely compact and tight just so you know. read more

As we were on the hunt for some delicious pastries for our upcoming wedding, we decided to stop in at this bakery and restaurant to see what they had. When we walked in the place was packed which was exciting. The smell of fresh made food hit us as we walked in, and we couldn't help but buy some. We ended up buying some empanadas which were incredible and I bought some morcilla which I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed. The staff here was polite and quickly got people in and out. When it came time to try their pastries we bought their flan. The flan itself was great and for the price they were charging, we got a ton of it. It was 2 p.m., so pretty late lunch, but there was still a line nearly out of the door for the regular food order line! Then, more people came through for the other lines! Since I called in my order ahead of time, I went to the "Pay here" line...I'm not sure if that was the right choice. In any event, I got a few smiles and other signs of acknowledgment, but no one actually asked me what I needed/wanted for a pretty good amount of time (approx. 15 min). Once addressed, the woman helping me was great. She was efficient, clear, and super friendly. She packed utensils and napkins without my asking. Now onto the food. I went to Puerto Rico a few years ago during college with my college roommate who is Puerto Rican. I was not only spoiled by the amazing food she made me, but she hooked me up with mofongo when we were in Puerto Rico. Since then, I have been searching for mofongo that had the complex flavors of pork rind, garlic, and I-don't-know-what-else or else I would have made it myself instead of searching so long. Simply, Puerto Rican Bakery & Restaurant was just as good, and maybe even better than I remember! I got it with the garlic, not tomato, sauce, and with shrimp. It came with a small side salad too which was great because it is kind of a heavy dish. Incredible amounts of mofongo and shrimp. There was plenty for lunch the next day. I also go a potato ball and beef empanada (or beef turnover on their menu). I wasn't impressed with the potato but the fried empanada was fantastic. All of this for only $15! I brought it back to the office, and my lunch was the envy of the entire office. I can't wait to come back and try some other things now that I've satisfied my mofongo itch. read more

Frequented MANY hispanic restaurants growing up in NYC. But..this establishment truly is RACIST!! How do one orders & wait for a sandwich for 20 mins, then have to get back in a long line to pick up sandwich??! Funny thing is the hispanic patrons came in & ordered easily & left with thier food. Had Dinner here again today - Monday - May 14, 2018 around 6:00 PM EST. Please note that they close at 7:00 PM EST on Monday's. The place was busy, as usual, a good sign that they are doing something right. And yes, they are doing something right, as usual. Got an order to go of Pernil Roast Pork, which was moist and plenty of it too. And, the Rice with Peas was great and plenty of it also, as usual. Got the Side Order of Beans with Potatoes that is included as well as the Extra Large Jumbo Quart of Beans and Potatoes too. Had 4 LARGE Fried Chicken Wings which had just come out of the Deep Fryer. Also, took the Coconut Flan Dessert to go. Had some to eat here and took the rest home to the family. Large Portions and so much so that the plastic bag almost broke and I had to get another plastic bag to take out the food, which cost a total of $23.50. The plastic bag must have had like 5 pounds of food in there. A bargain, right? They really know how to take care of their customers and give them plenty of food for a reasonable price. I was yes Yelp say no more. I am born and raised in Puerto Rico. There's a familiar yet specific smell when you go to a bakery or restaurant in PR and this place has that ESSENCE. Is not about having Spanish music or speaking Spanish . The flavor, the variety of food and the way is made is HOME. The service was warm and the food portions are CRAZY! ...but the best thing is what you pay seems like there must be a mistake . I got a Tripleta, mini quesitos, coffee, passion fruit juice and a Relleno de papá to go" for $12.75!! Not to mention the size of my tripleta was way bigger than any foot long. I highly recommend this place to everyone looking for good home-cooked Puerto Rican food and baked goods. Puerto Rico Bakery II is not fancy but the food is outstanding and the restaurant and bathrooms are always clean. The food is ordered "a la carte" at the counter and a server can place it on a plate to eat-in or a container to go. Beware though they serve HUGE portions! If you want a small or medium portion you have to let the server know in advance. Prices are very reasonable and the restaurant is family friendly. My favorite combination of dishes is the rice and beans with plantains and roasted pork (pernil). They also make "Mofongo" to order with pork or seafood. The bakery side offers dozens of delicious desserts like Flan, cakes, cookies, and more! The "to-go" boxes of cookies are always a hit at the office. They also make sandwiches to order. I usually order the pork sandwich or the Cuban sandwich and it is a 10 minute wait but it is well worth it. The bread is perfectly toasted and delicious! The sandwiches are so big and filling, I often split it with a friend and we end up paying $3 for lunch each! The best time to go is before the lunch time rush (before 11:30am) or after 2pm. Also, parking is really tight in that area. With patience, you might find a spot opening up as you pull in or may find a parking on the side street. The customer service here is terrible. Racially geared. I was not told that there was pork in the rice and there were no signs indicating it. The tables were all so filthy. Even after asking for a wet cloth and wiping down two tables they were sticky and disgusting. No offer to help with cleaning the tables. They just stood there and watched.
