Stopped by after work on a Tuesday night for some take out. It had been years since I stopped by 1Love. Nice little location, plenty of tables to eat at in the dining section if you're inclined to eat there. Interesting murals on the walls and some pictures of prominent Jamaican people in history. They don't have a menu on the wall per se, but a paper menu on top of the counter you can look at that looks like it changes daily as well as a menu online. A nice young man rang up my order, which was quickly filled by a pleasant lady that I chatted with while she fulfilled my order. I gotta tell you my car was smelling good on the way home! Everything was wonderful, the oxtails were very flavorful, somewhat labor intensive to eat but hey.....that's oxtails! The jerk chicken had excellent flavor and with a decent spice level kick. The rice and peas were awesome as well as the steamed cabbage. We also picked up a jerk chicken sandwich on coco bread with fries (which was only $8.95!!!) that was very tasty and a couple of mild beef patties for good measure. Not sure why the 1 star reviews below. It drags their overall rating lower. I had a pleasant experience here. Seems like they've been around but don't get the recognition they deserve and that's what the Yelp community is all about! The food was delicious and comes hot! I had the oxtails which were flavorful and it included a side of veggies served over rice and beans. Pictured is medium size serving which was plenty and fairly priced for oxtails. I don't think the rice and beans need a whole lot more seasoning when the sauce from the oxtails brings the dish together. They've got Jamaican music jamming lightly in the background and a huge layout for seating. What a hidden gem in Enfield. It's a family run business and I came when the father and his young son were working. Seems like an honest local business and I hope they get more traffic because i was the only one there at 2:30pm on a Wednesday. Look for the paper menus on the side table. I've been making my weekly trip for several month, usually get a large oxtail & a large curry chicken. The food is still good but the value has gone down overtime so much that I had to stop going. The price on the oxtail rice has gone up, which I understand as the inflation but the ox tail went down to half the amount of what I used to get, so sad. read more

Was passing by and decided to just stop by and grab a small curry chicken with rice and peas and a small oxtail with rice and peas. I've gotten the oxtail from other places and the oxtail they cut it so small. I like the size of these oxtail. There is a good amount of meat on them. The oxtail they served were also very flavorful. This is I believe on my top 3 of oxtail fav list. Definitely recommend this place. The staff was very friendly and was patient with me and all my questions. Oh if you wanted curry syrup you have to call in advance because it takes 20 minutes to make. read more

We stopped by 1Love due to a bathroom break at a hotel during a long drive to Hadley, MA. Almost went to chipotle, but wanted something unique. I had just had some good Jamaican in Philly, so I jumped at the chance to try some in North CT after a light google maps search. The stewed pork was absolutely amazing. It was the best Jamaican I've ever had that I can remember; so juicy and flavorful. My first bite was a big piece of pork with a fat strip on it. I was in the car, and after the bite I asked my partner if she could hold the box for a second. I ran in to tell the woman that it was simply "STUPID GOOD." She smiled and thanked me. While I had my first bite, my partner nibbled at the coconut dessert they had. I forget what it's called (maybe coconut drop) but it was brown and the lady described it to us as similar to peanut brittle, but with coconut and ginger. They had several in plastic clear boxes sitting on the wall for you to grab and go. This was a very unique and delicious dessert - we shared some with our friends we stayed with the following morning and none of us could get enough! The ginger taste seemed strong to some while to me it was very faint which was great because I hate ginger. Not only was the stewed pork amazing - the plantains were so fresh and tender as well. I didn't love the cabbage as it was a bit plain but who cares... The lady was so nice as I am a talker, so she walked me through the stewed pork and what my options were. I wasn't eating grains that day, so she said instead of the rice and beans I could get plantains, cabbage, or a mix of both. The serving was ENORMOUS for the middle sized box - she gave me a separate boxes for the plantains and cabbage (3 altogether). I wish I lived closer to this place because I'd be going at least monthly to get my Jamaican fix. I can't wait to drive back up and try the Jerk pork (only available on weekends)!!!! read more

I've grown tired of pizzas, grinders, and the usual fast food fare in Enfield. I needed a bit of spice in my life so I checked out 1Love. Now I'm not an expert on Jamaican food by any means, but what I can say is that the food delicious and the servings were huge. The takeout bag was HEAVY and there is definitely enough food leftover for another meal. I can eat so that's not something I can say very frequently, so props to 1Love for the generous servings. Yum! I'm an Enfield resident and decided to try this place for lunch. We got a TON of food for $17! We got a coco bread, veggie patty, spicy beef patty, plantains and a piece of sweet potato pudding! The spicy beef patty was pretty tasty. Wish it was a bit spicier but that's just a personal opinion. The veggie patty had a little spice to it too The plantains were a combination of both sweet and not sweet plantains - super delicious and hot. Great Jamaican take-out in Enfield CT. The ladies in front were really nice and answered all of my questions (b/c they're newly opened). First time trying them out so we got three dinners: jerked chicken, curried goat, and oxtail. Heat level was good, all three dishes had more sweet than heat, but a dash of their scotch bonnet sauce kicked it up nicely. The jerk chicken and curied goat were awesome! Oxtail was good, but a little too sweet for our taste. These three wonderful entrees were served on a HUGE portion of rice and beans with an extremely generous portion of veggies as well. Two people can easily split a meal and still have leftovers for sure. If you've never had Jamaican, try out the jerked chicken and maybe grab a beef patty for the drive home (like an empanada, but better) and you'll be fat and happy like I am now. read more

This is the third time we ordered from 1Love, but never again. The first time we ordered from them, it was really good. The second time was OK - we thought maybe it was the cook that night who was responsible for the poor to fair quality of food. But last night we decided would be our last time ordering from them. My husband ordered jerk chicken, which was dried out. I ordered the stew chicken, which was 80% bones and whatever meat there was on the bones was dried out. The salad that's normally separate from the rice and beans was thrown on top of the rice and beans and there was hardly anything to the salad. So basically, we paid $35 for rice and beans. We'll be going back to Hummingbird in Springfield, which has awesome Jamaican food! read more
