Stopped for dinner on a Friday. We chose to sit back at the small bar, which was completely empty. I think the bar had maybe 5-6 seats. Someone came to make our drinks and drop off menus within 5-10 minutes of us sitting there. The drinks were made immediately. We ordered the queso with chorizo for an appetizer and it was brought out very quickly. The dip was hot and creamy and there were plenty of fresh chips to accompany it. For mains, I ordered a basic chicken and cheese quesadilla for $7.99. I opted for the grilled chicken vs. shredded and the pieces were pretty large. I think it would have been easier to eat with shredded chicken. My bf ordered the hawaiian quesadilla and said the added pineapple worked surprisingly well with the rest of the quesadilla flavors. My margarita was a jalapeño one served on the rocks. It was perfectly spicy and presented in a large glass. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was good. The nachos they bring you when u get there are from other tables with fresh ones put on top. We was eating them waiting on our food and half way thru eating them their was a have eaten one covered in dried salsa. Called it to be waiters attention and he did not care just took them away and not even offer to front fresh ones. Got the food shortly after and the plate had old dried food all over it. I told them to take it back and take off the bill. I was not eating there. No one came out to apologize or did they even care. DO NOT EVER EAT AT THIS PLACE. Puerto Vallarta is one of the few Mexican restaurants around. Other than here it's Taco Bell. The food is extremely average. It's not awful or great. They have a buffet at lunch. About the only good thing is the buffet. It's here during the week for lunch. They have a pretty good variety. It's about $8 a person. They have hard and soft tacos. Proteins include beans, beef, and chicken. They have toppings like cheese, guacamole, and salsa. It's good for the Steubenville area. This would struggle if there was any competition. You have to go out of town to find better places. read more

Yelp prompted me for this review, it's not tied to a specific visit. I try Puerto Vallarta once every couple of years and have been 7 or 8 times between 2008-2023. I really want to like it more but it's usually missing something special, like draft beer from the menu that came in a bottle, or a bold fresh quality flavor in the food. I often wonder if they served me leftovers. If I'm in the mood for Mexican cuisine, I either lean toward Chico Fiesta in Weirton or to make something at home. The service and atmosphere were always fine, but I expect a better quality food and beverage at the price point. I will visit it again soon though to see if it's improved. Food was decent American Mexican food. Was a little pissed I called in my order and they didn't but it in until I got there.

My expectations were low, being from California where Mexican food was the best around. It met my expectations; it was bland, had no flavor, and the salsa wasn't even spicy. The staff was great, but the food was just blah. The cheese sauce we ordered for our chips had more flavor than the rest of the meal. My chili relleno had cornmeal in with very little cheese. Now where we come from, the relleno pepper is FILLED with cheese...and flavor. Won't be going back, ill just go to taco bell. read more

This is the best Mexican food in the Weirton/Steubenville area. It is also the only Mexican food in the area, but it is good. They give you free chips and salsa. The chips are nice and thin. I wasn't impressed by their carnitas, but mine are exceptional. Another thing, I can figure their salsa out. Is it fresh? Is it canned? is it both? Their cheese dip is great. The following is a list of items that I like from their menu: Arroz con Pollo Arroz con Carne Grande Burrito #8 combo Tamale Flautas Taquitos Tacos Enchiladas You get the point. There are alot of things I still need to try. They have a huge menu and the staff is friendly, albeit not fluent. ;) They also have a great lunch buffet with many items on it. i know absolutely nothing about what makes mexican food good and whatnot, but here are my thoughts regardless. the salsa was sweet (not terrible but not good.) the queso was yummy. (it's called "cheese dip" though which i found funny; but don't worry, the rice is sold as "arroz.") the atmosphere is nice in that the restaurant is spacious and well-lit. our food took a long time to arrive but there were like 16 of us so that was understandable. people say that this is the best mexican place in the area so i mean hey, give it a shot! read more

I've gone here multiple times, the only thing i really like is the ice cream, and the chips. It's fun to go on your birthday though, they sing in Spanish and put sombreros on your head. Having spent 27 yrs in Texas, I know Mexican food...this place is the worst crap I have ever been served...I could not eat it...I ordered a buritto w/ beans, meat, fried onions w/ pico de gallo on the side...I got a cold tortilla, meat, raw onions, no beans, w/ lettuce & tomato inside. The tortilla was soaking, soggy wet on the bottom. When I picked it up, tomato juice ran out of it...what a mess...I ordered quesadilla con pollo...again the bottoms were soggy from the water in the bottom of the carry-out box...It certainly wasn't fried, it was a gooey mess...it had raw green peppers in it....The bathroom was absolutely filthy...You can't trust the kitchen of any restaurant that doesn't keep the bathroom clean...If you want Mexican food in Steubenville, goto taco bell or Weirton...lol read more

Food was very good, came to the table piping hot. Plenty of chips and salsa for the table - as someone else noted, the salsa is not spicy at all, which I remedied by pumping it full of the habanero sauce at the table. As with most Mexican places, the food is plentiful, too much for a single meal. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. The Fajita Texanos was quite good, but there were no jalapenos or other spicy peppers to light it up (again, hot sauce came in handy, although I'm not a fan of vinegar-based hot sauces). A little skimpy with sour cream and guacamole, but the waitress brought more upon request. Very inexpensive, too. Four of us ate there for less than $60. I don't like the fact that it's a chain restaurant, but it's a good one. read more

I lived in Texas for 8 years so Mexican/Tex-Mex is familiar to me. The food here is very good to excellent. I love all the fajitas especially fajitas Mexicana which has beef, chicken, shrimp, and pineapple! The complimentary salsa and chips is excellent with the salsa being mild heat and blended not chunky. The lunch buffet is very good but you better get there when it opens if you want everything that's offered. They don't label the buffet food which is annoying. The atmosphere is very authentic, well lit, and they have flat screen tv's randomly placed with sports on but no volume. Puerta Vallarta could hold it's own in Texas so that's good enough for me. read more

I've been here a couple times but this place was horrible the last time I went. Had the taco salad with beans (instead of meat) and it was 60% water and pukey looking! I was gagging it was so nasty! Just a warning: If you're an even slightly attractive female, you'll have the entire kitchen staff popping their heads out of the kitchen to stare at you! It's really uncomfortable and happens to everyone female I know that goes here. Very unprofessional, I'd rather go to Taco Bell! The only reason I didn't give 1 star is because they took off the salad without hesitation and offered something else. I would like to know who the hell owns Puerto Villarta restraunt in Steubenvillle? I am a 61 yr old guy and the waiters have been making fun of me, and 2 weeks ago I was done eating and went to get somebody to pay my bill, upon doing I went to get them because nobody was there, there were 2 guys from the kitchen and 2 other waiters in the dining area where I was. They spoke in Spanish to me and it seemed to contain sexual overtones but I cannot understand much Spanish they spoke but thats what it sounded like. Then 2 guys from the kitchen started laughing and doing sexual gestures in front of me, I felt uncomfortable because the one was thrusting the other or acting as such in front of me and they did these sexual gestures twice and they were laughing and giggling in front of me to make me look and feel rediculous or whatever were trying to convey was not clear. I know there is a guy in the kitchen I was told who is gay. maybe another one 2 of them I dont know. Then the other guy made a sexual comment to me regarding how I was built and something about an ass and they started those sexual gestures once more! I felt really uncomfortable because I dont know who these guys are and I am not gay and never have been. I dont know all these waiters name but one. I dont who the 2 guys in the kitchen are but I'm sure 1 or both is gay.I am not and dont believe in that lifestyle at all. So I would say I was strongly sexually harrassed there. I dont know who the manager is of this restraunt and dont know who its owner is but if anyone can tell me or help me on this matter as of what to do, I would very much appreciate because these guys have gotten way out of hand and have crossed the line.
