What an incredible inventory for a store so close to town. I came looking for seed and bone meals, ground rock minerals, lime, and such, for making Complete Organic Fertilizer. They had everything needed to make COF, and quite a bit more. They even had Langbeinite. Wow! Friendly and super-efficient customer service was provided during both of my trips this week, and Star was especially helpful in the amendments area out back by the bales of straw. I used to go shopping for farm supplies at another store south of Oly, but no more. With a convenient location, friendly staff, and one of the best selections of stock anywhere, Eastside UF&G is my favorite new farm store. It's worth the drive from Seattle, or anywhere else in the Puget Sound region. I'll be back!

Rather than head South for an "outlet mall experience," they opted to head North to the bustling metropolis of Rochester, WA. I've now been to 3 different towns called Rochester, and while they are all so fantastically underwhelming, the other two don't have a carnivorous nursery..... and this was compelling enough to make the hour and a half trek from Portland. This retail experience is unique, as the greenhouse is in the proprietor's back yard. It's his life's work and passion, which yielded some refreshingly different conversations than talking to hourly employees who may not be as knowledgeable or vested. Whether he was happy to or kindly obliging, the owner geeked out with us over plants for over an hour, and for how much he knows, there was no shred of the pretension that can sometimes be prevalent among the horticulture folks, for whatever reason (why is that?!?). In addition to having a huge and impressive collection of sarracenias, the owner of the nursery also had a cool and compelling story about his journey to owning his own nursery, which entailed being a combat medic and after getting out of the military, discovering a passion for carnivorous plants and pursuing and achieving a degree in horticulture. So, if you're into supporting veteran-owned businesses.... here's your chance. Do it. A few words of advice: -It's currently a one-man show, so you MUST make an appointment, which you can do by calling or texting the number on the website. The owner was responsive and communicative. -Some of the plants are outside, so if you visit during the rainy season, dress accordingly. #dontforgetboots

He's super friendly and knowledgeable and answered all of my questions about carnivorous plants. This is my first one so I really didn't have much knowledge about them. You can tell he just loves what he does and he takes great care of these babies. He has a great selection with great prices. He also offers a guarantee for his plants if you think your baby is dying. I left knowing a lot more than when I arrived. If you guys are in the area and want to buy a carnivorous plant, y'all should definitely check him out! The hanging baskets purchased here last longer, have richer color, and are healthier than hanging baskets I have bought at many garden centers. In May there are lovely Viola and Pansy baskets for sale. I bought my mother an enormous hanging viola basket. The plants continued to grow and produce flowers right into Autumn. In the Summer hanging baskets of annuals are available. The flowers range in sizes and colors. Gull Harbor Nursery's hanging baskets are a wonderful accent to any porch, awning, or deck. The covered entry to my apartment would be covered in hanging plants if I could remember to water them!
