Stay AWAY!!! Recently got 2 yards, 1 yard of their "premium" garden soil & 1 yard of 3-way topsoil, which is FULL of PLASTIC!! I'm not talking just a piece here and there, after this recent heavy rain, we've got plastic both soft grocery bag type and hard not bendable type all OVER the surface! See pics. After going thru the remaining 1.5 yards or so, I found metal scrap pieces as well!!! There are too many other places to get dirt. Now not only is our garden and new lawn spots FULL OF GROUND UP PLASTIC, I've got to figure out where I'm going to take the 1.5ish yards I've got left unused! It's contaminated!! My girlfriend called Walwrath/Great Western and manager just blamed it on that being their compost vendors problem and they have changed where they get compost. But come to find out that's a lie. Asking around friends/family came across others who've had same problem, got same answer, couple years ago! Stay away!!! I've got a whole video of my new garden and lawn just full of PLASTIC! I've used Great Western for bulk soil deliveries in 2021 and 2022. Both times, the (same) driver (KH) was early and called ahead to ask if that was okay. He has been very personable and careful to not ruin turf or anything else. Soil is top notch and I love that this is a locally owned business. I also visit their brick and mortar store for shrubs and ended up also buying from their unique gift shop. I've found everything to be very reasonably priced for a local garden store. They also have some amazing, large garden statuary that I wish I could currently afford (Well-priced for the product, I just don't have the budget for that at this time). I think I've bought my last load from them. It seems that every time I buy either garden or turf mix, I get more weeds that dirt. Each time with new weeds I've never seen before. The weeds are so bad this time that I really have no choice but to spray RoundUp and start over. Completely disappointed. The people that work there are always nice and the service is quick in and out. The quality of soils has just been so consistently disappointing. read more

I need to update my review. After writing this review on yelp, I was contacted by the owner who apologized and offered to make things right. They delivered product to me free of charge and were apologetic for what happened. This is the customer service I have always received from Great Western Supply and I am happy to know that the owner truly cares about their customers enough to take the comments to heart, correct the issue, and and make it right. I am happy and will continue to do business with Great Western Supply. ******************************** I am very frustrated by my experience today. I have been a long time customer and have always had a pickup to transport my own bark. We no longer have a truck and instead of bugging friends to borrow one we decided to just have our two yards of bark delivered.. We scheduled the delivery for 12:30 today but I received a voice mail message at work at 1030 saying they could deliver earlier however my husband had already arranged to take time off work at 12:30 to meet the driver (which they require). To our surprise, we got a call from our contractor who was working on our home advising they were there (at 1130 - and they had not even talked to us to confirm the change) and had delivered our "yard of bark". I was a little worried that he said a yard instead of the two I ordered but waited to get home and look for myself. Had my husband been there as THEY had arranged he most likely would have been able to say something right then. Maybe some of it stuck in the bed of the truck and not all of it came out? When I got home there was a small pile of bark in our driveway. It was definitely not 2 yards. I called the store and asked if there had been a mix up. I was put on hold for several minutes and the lady helping said she spoke to the loader and he "thought" it was 2 yards but to talk to the driver. The lady (Sage) said she would talk to the driver and call me back. I waited for an hour and 45 minutes for a call back and received no call (they are now closed for the day). Meanwhile we are ready to get started on our project and clearly there won't be enough since we didnt get the full 2 yards. We know what a yard looks like, we have bought bark many times before as home owners. Even our contractor said it did not appear to be 2 yards. So we paid 55.00 just for delivery of the bark (steep delivery for less than 5 miles away btw). We will now have to pay to have more delivered, find a truck, or be short on our project. 108.00 later total and ...........we will not be completing our project. NEVER again. Next time we will borrow a truck, or rent one (it would be cheaper) and we won't be going back to Great Western Supply. A phone call back would have shown that they even cared a little bit about us as customers. read more

We needed to rerock the driveway and entrance road to our home. I contacted Great Western Supply and ordered 14 cu yds of 5/8th inch gray decorative rock. I was impressed with how helpful "Cindy" was on the phone and her overall customer service oriented attitude. When the driver "Jack" came to deliver the rock I was thankful he informed me the existing rock was black and I had ordered gray. He happily took the gray rock back and returned with black. Then Jack proceeded to expertly dump the rock evenly throughout the yard making little hand work of what I thought was going to be a very difficult job. He was polite, helpful, and above all conscientious. I would recommend Great Western Supply and their driver Jack to anyone! read more

Exceptional - We have bought from Great Western and the Barn for many years and had bark delivered yesterday. They were great about scheduling the delivery quickly. We also enjoy the nursery, not just the plant and lawn/home accessory selection, but because of the customer service. I purchased the garden mix. People were nice, service was good enough. Amount we received (at the business in our trailer), was good. The soil however, is full of weed seeds and it's hard to tell what I've planted and what is just coming up from the soil. Veggies starts I planted are doing well, but there's a lot of weeding necessary to keep up with everything that I didn't plant that keeps coming up. Not happy and do not recommend unless you love weeding. read more

After buying rock from Great Western Supply twice you would think they would provide better customer service. The front desk workers are not proficient in providing a welcoming environment to paying customers. They give off an annoyed and judgmental look everytime I've been in and are not helpful when picking out material. Don't think I'll be returning as a customer. read more

I called today just to check on cost and delivery possibilities. The receptionist was very helpful knowing what I would need for my project. I expected to pay more and to have to wait to get the product delivered. When I asked how long until it could be delivered and she said "How about today?" Not only was it today but they delivered in about an hour and half. The gentleman who delivered it was very kind and helpful placing the load as close to our project to save us time and effort. I have used Great Western Supply for many years almost every year for garden compost, topsoil and bark. I never had a problem until my delivery in spring of 2016. The compost I put on my vegetable garden and berry plants brought with it numerous bindweed seeds which is an extremely invasive weed in our region. So far in spring of 2017 I have pulled up hundreds of these seedlings from the areas under our trees where I applied the bark last spring. I do not use bagged mulch/compost and have not used delivered materials from any other company so there is no doubt this is the source. read more

I want to applaud Great Western Supply for their excellent customer service! We had some 3/8 minus gravel delivered a couple of days ago. When my husband went to work with it and move it to cover the paths in our yard, the material was not at all like he expected or was familiar with. We called Great Western to express our concern. Not only was the initial person we spoke with, I believe her name was McKenzie, very polite and courteous, but she bumped our concern up the management food chain, first to Cindy who spoke with my husband and asked us to send pictures of the material. A short while later we received a call from Dean, the president of the company! He spent quite a bit of time on the phone with my husband explaining the material and how to properly distribute it in a manner that would be most effective and like the material is made for. What started out as us being displeased, ended up with my husband being treated like he was Great Western's most important customer, even though our order was very very small compared to what they must deal with most of the time. We really appreciate how everyone on their team went out of their way to address our concerns and will definitely be using Great Western again and recommending them in the future! read more

Customer service ..a month ago I went here to get some products,after paying I went out to my truck and it had broke down. I ask for a jump box or cables because my truck was dead. The people there came out and helped me figure out what was wrong. The guys in the back came out, after we had figured out what was wrong (starter). They called the part store for me and even went to the store and picked up the part!!!!!When he got back him and another fellow got right to replacing my part on the truck. Well, they have big piles of dirt, so that's cool. I love that they offer organic soils. I have worked with their organic and non-organic garden mixes, and both seem like top-notch soil: rich, crumbly, and dark, almost black. I had 10 yards delivered last week, and the driver was friendly and helpful. We wanted the soil dumped in a pretty tight spot, and he pulled some impressive driving maneuvers to get it there! read more

After receiving a lengthy explanation of how they dump eight buckets of firewood into your trailer...and it is assured to be "at least" a cord, I got home, stacked the wood, and it "maybe" makes 3/4 of a cord. Have dealt w/these guys for several years...15 yds of cedar chips, over 40 yds of small nugget bark, and now 12 yds of oversized river rock. Always on time, always friendly and, this time especially, insane price (???)...insane low, BTW. Have been beyond happy w/these guys since first try several years back, but Dan, owner, frosted this cake w/my river rock. I'm sure a simple oversight resulted in last couple yards being mixed w/some dirt and stuff, maybe from a truck not totally cleaned out (??)...so I whined and wondered if maybe they'd kick me back a yd...well, after three attempts to just do something cheap/simple...DAN tells me he'll just deliver a couple yards for my trouble...now I'm embarrassed. He, the owner, shows up in like an hour...I live 17+ miles from them, with 2 yards (probably more)...drops it precisely where I ask...I bore him with another attempt to explain that something simple and less involved would have been plenty...to which he replies "Our aim is to always take better care of our customers than we do of ourselves."...or about that. Well, you guys have me for life...I no longer shop around...when you find the best, to heck w/the rest... SHORT YARD: I was a customer this past couple of weeks picking up a yard of material at a time. I was watching the young fellow load the truck in front of me and while the bucket is one yard there was not a yard of material in the bucket as it was not full. I thought maybe just an oversight and since I had already paid for my material I went ahead and had it loaded. Unfortunately, I received the same 'short' bucket of material. I have hauled enough single yards that I know what a full yard looks like in the bucket and in my trailer. However, I have done business here for several years wanting to give the business the benefit of the doubt I went back for a second single yard and again it was a 'short' yard obviously in the loader as well as in my trailer. So I did need a third yard of material and went to a competitor and knew immediately before it was dumped in the trailer that it was a full yard. Once in my trailer it was apparent that it was a full yard. I am not finished with the current project but will not be using Great Western Supply as my supplier. The young man who was operating the loader has to be one of the most pleasant guys around. read more
