Flamingo willow or dappled willow). I searched for this kind of tree for a couple years, it is difficult to find so I was pleased to see they had a couple. I also bought a beautiful healthy Dick Clark rose. I found their prices to be competitive and fair.

They have a good selection, especially of "bare root" trees ( which they potted in big peat pots that can go right on the ground). She also lets me know which vegetables will do the best with the current weather: hot, cold, wet, etc. Her husband Michael is often at the booth on Thursdays and Fridays. He remembers that I stock up on succulents and reminds me when they'll have certain types of sempervivums and sedums. They both know that I shop for plant starts regularly and always offer to take my 4" plant pots. In the 2021 season the seeds that did the best for me were California poppies, Swiss chard, red Russian kale, rainbow carrots, and the purple shelling peas. I had a late start this year (2022), but Maurrie made sure to remind me that peas, carrots, and radishes are a good bet even when it's rainy.

This year, we finally found Bennie's! She allowed us to make custom pre-orders in January when she was still selecting flowers. She showed us her Proven Winners catalog and had great suggestions for what would grow well together. Today we picked up our baskets and they look fabulous. I can't wait to see what they look like in August! The only disappointment was that with 11 hanging baskets in the Suburban, I only had room to take home 1 more plant. So back to Bennie's we'll go to bring home some beautiful geraniums, lavender, clematis, roses, or dozens of other annuals and perennials. Everything looked extremely healthy and vigorous. Customers are spoiled for choice, and prices are extremely reasonable. Well worth the 3 hour round trip!

Then 2 years went by and we wanted more flowering cherry trees and for some reason we bought them elsewhere. Out of the 4 we bought elsewhere only 1 survived. We recently bought 3 more from Bennie's. Be wary. I purchased a pear tree that they assured me would serve as a pollinator for the pear…read moretree I already had. They did not know what they were talking about. Now, a year later, I find out the hard way that they do trees bloom at completely different times. No way are they going to pollenate. Moreover, I found out too late that the tree they sold me, was carrying blister mites, Which have now infected both of my pear trees. This parasite is very difficult to eliminate. I won't be shopping there again.
