I have been seeing the doctors at Pulmonary Associates for almost two years and have not had anything but the best care from them! I was diagnosed with COPD and they did the required testing to provide documentation to my insurance company. Also, they are good at keeping appointments and very good at responding through the online triage portal for questions and/or prescription refills. I have been a patient of this office for over 3 years after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive lung disease with no cure. I started getting sick in February but was unable to get an appointment with my Dr. They pushed me to a physicians assistant. She said I had a sinus infection and gave me a z pack. 3 months later I was in the hospital with rhino virus, virul pneumonia and sepsis. When discharged in 3 days I was told by the hospital to follow up with my Dr. Again was unable to get an appointment with my Dr. And again saw a physicians assistant. I was already getting sick, but the appointment with her was worthless. Less than a week later I was back in the hospital with bacterial pneumonia and sepsis for 5 days. Upon discharge I was told again to follow up with my Dr. The next day I called the office to schedule this appointment and was told by a rude front desk office worker that the next available appointment with my Dr was August 16th...over two months away. So now I am back in the hospital and again looks like pneumonia on the X-ray. If you are looking for a facility where you can see your Dr when YOU need to, this is not the place. Several other Dr's here have attempted to explain to me that they are under staffed, do hospital rounds and are strained, but these are NOT and should not be my problems. My belief is that healthcare in the United States, being the most expensive in the world should be able to hire more Dr's when they are needed. My suggestion is that if you are looking for a medical group with friendly front office staff and the ability to see your doctor when needed...look elsewhere. I think there care is good...you just can't get access to it. read more

If you have a serious issue going on you should RUN AWAY FAST from this practice! PLEASE READ ALL... IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE! After 2+ years with Punmonary Associatates I left the practice in the middle of a serious health crisis. I had an appointment scheduled for April and it was abruptly canceled via text message with no explanation or follow-up as the text stated they would. I finally got in May after finding out my PT, Linda had retired. No letter no notice nothing! I saw STACEY and my pulse ox was 86. She ordered a CT and the results came back 10 days later. After about 2 more weeks with no word from them I messaged on ATHENA asking if they had read them. I received back a message from DAYLON which had absolutely nothing to do with my question and was a copy and paste of an answer from a previous message about an antibiotic. Giving him the benefit of the doubt assuming he was busy I messaged again. STACEY answered this time and said I had a 19mm nodule and a hole in my lung. She wanted to repeat the CT in 3 or so months. In getting a second opinion from my primary care she felt I not to be proactive enough so Stacey ordered a VALLEY FEVER TEST. The test was negative at that time which happens in up to 70% of early infection testing. It is always advised to repeat a negative when symptoms are present as they were with me. This wasn't done. Instead I received an almost scolding call from Daylon in early July to tell me my VF fever test was negative and it have had been trying to reach me since the 23rd of June. A Blatant LIE! He further stated that this was serious and they needed to see me to schedule a biopsy because they were fearing CANCER. He didnt call, email, text or message on Athena so I guess I missed his smoke signals or telepathy. I had called on my own and scheduled for soonest avail of 8/19 but asked if they had anything sooner. He said I could see another provider on 8/7 so I took it. The following day my appt was once again canceled by them via text. No explanation. My primary called them and was informed that they were just too busy and the provider they scheduled me with was out for personal reasons on that day. I now had a serious issue low pulse ox and no appointment! I had my doc give me a new referral to a new Pulmonologist who got me in the very next day. She re-tested me for Valley Fever and it was infact positive! DAYLON and STACEY had me believing I had lung cancer but they were too busy to get me in. My new Pulmonologist TRACY is amazing! She changed my meds ordered all the tests i needed and got me on antifungal for the VALLEY FEVER. If I had stayed with this practice I dont know what would have happened. THE MORAL HERE.... THERE IS MUCH BETTER QUALITY OF CARE OUT THERE. PLEASE REALIZE THAT ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE FEELING ILL LIKE I WAS. I was actually told by Stacey that my lung function test scores were too high to be having these issues. Maybe that's because it was done 2 years before this problem arose! Not once did they suggest repeating lung function testing which has gone down in two years since I have both EMPHYSEMA AND COPD!!! read more

She had no ct available to look at as Abrazo won't share. I will never go back to Abrazo or Pulmonary Associates. Could have died. read more

Was told "if" I wanted to reschedule, I should look into that. Been waiting a month for an acute infection to be seen. Keep claiming date of reschedule is different. I saw Dr. Shah as a follow up from my stay at Honor Health. The waiting period was short and was seen with in 10 minutes of check-in paperwork. Never felt rushed. Dr. Shah took the time to listen to my health, medications and concerns. He is a great communicator, easy to talk to and explained things very well. I am very happy with the overall experience. I attended the appointment and after the appointment they stated they didnt take my insurance and demanded payment even after speaking with the office manager. She states it was my responsibility to verify that her company accepted my insurance. Very rude also. Now sent me to collections. Tejas Shaw PA has been fantastic! He doesn't rush, he "listens" then we discuss the issue and makes a plan, he is very thorough. For a state with the highest number of breathing issues and lung diseases this pulmonology associates medical clinic has the worst servicing of patients. Don't be fooled by all these smiling photos of doctors, PAs and MAs there's no way you can get to see a medical doctor in the end. Their assistants consultations were difficult to deal with, it's impossible to know what I should be getting done, but the one that was done was critical for me to on to the next step, however, I had to wait five months to see her, she denied what she originally told me five months earlier so I switched PA again it's nuts to get real help, should we stop breathing? I have CHF, Renal failure, severe bronchitis, etc etc, so after leaving another lung specialty clinic for questionable doctor care I was recommended by my ENT almost three years ago to this one particular pulmonology doctor, but he was never available no matter when I called, finally I did get the precious appt but the office cancelled me 3 months before the appt without any explanation nor setting up another one. I was in bad shape, it's a nightmare. To get diagnostic results is atrocious! Although I was hammered to get their portal app so finally I ventured forth got it done, went in but nothing was found, no reports, no comments, nothing it's blank. Just recently I was given the answer to why this particular doctor is so unavailable, he is a hospitalist specialist for Honor Health Hospital working chunks of months at a time leaving no time for newer patients, not even for consultations. The fact is this clinic is not much help at all, keep searching or leave the state. read more

Ok here is what you should know before you go to this office, They have began testing a NEW AI audio recording of your visit, they will ask you, only once after you have already checked in the front desk, paid your co pay, filled updated paper work, waited 20min. to be seen. Brought back to exam room wait about another 10min. then when they enter, then they will ask at that time may they audio record this procedure, never once telling you, you have the option to say no. SO at this you are concerned into agreeing with this in the fear that if you say no(no option given for this) that your office visit is over. This office needs to make better procedures in this matter, like maybe informing you before your appt, at any time before you pay, when they call, text, email you about checking in(days before the appt.), or even at the front desk saying that you might be partaking in a New AI recording procedure and at that time you can ask the question can I oppt out and without being charged an office visit if you cant opt out. This office has the right to make any procedure changes they want, but they do not have a good process on how to inform their patience. My concern I have been to doctors office that treat you like cattle in a revolving door, get you in and out, basically you dont feel important or feel its a one on one visit. I really hope this office is not traveling down that road, cause those other doctors that have treated me that way, I stopped going to them. This place is horrible. My wife, who is on immunosuppressants due to multiple chronic conditions, was required to see a pulmonologist to evaluate her abnormal labs and receive clearance to continue taking the medication she needs for her conditions. The initial appointment went fine. However, she was scheduled to come back in a month and after she drove an hour to the follow-up appointment, she was told they "Couldn't find her appointment", and she had to reschedule for the following week. Today, she once again drove an hour to the appointment and happened to be 5 minutes late due to traffic. The office staff told her they would not see her and stated they no showed her 5 MINUTES AFTER HER APPT TIME. I don't know who is in charge of this office, but you and the rest of the staff should be fired immediately. If you care about your health and your family's health, go elsewhere. read more

I would love to give this office 5 stars since they got rid of Dr. Baroana and moved me to Dr. Porvin (arguably the best Pulmonologist in the Valley) but I still find scheduling and communicating with the office less than stellar. That did not happen! My first appointment was changed and pushed out another month. Then a couple of days prior to that new appointment the office called to change it yet again. Reading other reviews, clearly this will not be an original comment. They have the worst phone call management skills I have ever seen. You call and IMMEDIATELY go on hold. My last two efforts I gave up after 15 and 24 minutes. Not that I dont LOVE hearing Norah Jones "come away with me" on repeat on the short window of time I have to make an appointment during the work day, I really do... but no answering service, nothing. Just on infinite hold with no escape. The only loop hole I found was to call after hours, leave a message, and if you happy to get their call thru your spam call blocker and answer, you can make an appointment that way. I have never been to a pulmonologist until I was seen by Dr Baraona about two months ago. At first I was happy to have taken the time to find out why I was short of breathe. Of course it had to do with smoking but now I needed a doctor, diagnosis, and assumed medications. Within the first 5 minutes this doctor had me in tears telling me how bad I was and that I needed oxygen right away among other things. One of the medications was over $600 a month. This was all determined off of an X-ray my primary doctor took several months prior. He had me using a nebulizer with meds 3 times a day with two different medications. I never did receive the oxygen so I assumed he decided not to give it to me. A few weeks later I got the flu and it went into my lungs. Was so bad that I made an appointment to see dr baraona who was the first to tell me I shouldn't had waited so long to contact him. I told him I had a Mexico trip planned. He told me I could go but needed to take another batch of meds and to go on my trip. Was the worst trip ever and ended up at a hospital in Mexico. Nothing he gave me gave me any relief. Turns out he was treating me for COPD when I have emphysema with bronchitis. I got back to Arizona and ended up in a hospital here for treatment that actually worked. Dr Baraona had me diagnosed before he had the proper tools to make judgements on meds. He made me feel like a zombies that no matter what he was going to do for me I would still end up like a zombie. Poor poor girl and yes you did this to yourself. He seems like a very nice man and way smarter than me so like all of us we trust what the doctors tell us. Always PLEASE get a second opinion as it could save your life. read more

Was seen by Dr. Liao due to an emergency admission in December 2022, he performed, excellent MD, and then again in another emergency admission in January 2023 and seen by Dr. Porvin. Both Dr.'s are great and had no issues with any of these doctors. My follow up was with Dr. Anthony who is also great. The only issue I have has is I been paying my bill regularly and been calling informing them of any issues and they report me to collections department, which is pretty sad. In addition there phone system is not business appropriate, as you can never get through and had to leave a message. Hopefully they read these comments and take heed to them and implement some changes for the benefit of their patients. read more

My mother had an appointment with Lynda the NP back in May (Thunderbird location, now moved here). Her follow-up appointment is tomorrow but she doesn't want to go because of how horrible she was and if at all possible her MA was even worse. My mom has COPD, hence why she was there. Most providers would have enough compassion to realize that it might be hard for a person to breathe and they may need to rest. Well, the MA decided to yell at her and tell her she wasn't the only person that needed a chest x-ray when she was the only person there at the time. Keep in mind, she was required to wear a mask even though she was struggling to breathe, so she was having more trouble than usual. Normally, this would be concerning to a CARE PROVIDER. Not this one. She storms off, goes to get an oxygen tank, slams it on the floor in front of her and leaves the room. Really? You should look for another line of work because I assure you, had I been in the building and witnessed your shitty bedside manner, you wouldn't still have a job. She almost left the appointment right then because she was going to have to remove her shirt to put on a gown for the xray and it would be a whole issue again because it would have certainly winded her. She got through that. Then the NP comes in and barely addresses anything. Tells her she needs to do some type of test where she is not allowed to use any of her inhalers for an extended period of time. What? Are YOU going to pay the hospital bill after she drops from not being able to breathe? How absolutely careless of a suggestion to make to someone that uses not 1 but 3 inhalers. The end of the appointment the only assistance they offer is oxygen. Really? You have to go to a specialist to be offered oxygen? I don't have a PhD and could have figured that out. Bottom line, you treat you patients like shit abd should be ashamed. Whomever thought a NP is qualified to make any medical decisions for a COPD patient shouldn't have a medical license and the MA should be fired. My mom will not being going back her but if she was, I promise you that you'd see my smiling face and you wouldn't act a fool. I am not a frail 74 year old woman. I was not happy with them at first. They take a month or more to schedule an appointment and then 3 days before my appointment I get a voicemail that the broad at this office conveniently forgot that she decided to take a vacation and I needed to reschedule. When I called back, I was offered another appointment over a month out and they acted like that was fine and I was terrible for thinking that was totally unreasonable. After pitching a fit I was able to see a doctor on my scheduled day after all, just at an earlier time. It turned out to be for the better as this doctor was not only good but genuinely concerned for his patients, unlike the broad. As an added bonus he spoke English fluently and wasn't going to vanish after a job thief-1B expired. The doctor knew well how to deal with the scam artists passing themselves off as health insurance, he only underestimated how much the obstructionist puppets would delay and refuse to do what they were paid in full to do in hopes that I would just stop breathing and go away. He and his office stayed on top of them as much as I did trying to get to the next unnecessary roadblock in being called liars by health insurance scammers. When things finally did get back to his office it was taken care of within 1-2 days to make sure they weren't a party to a policy of medical obstruction. Thanks to them, my medical equipment has finally been ordered with no more delays and I can start therapy next week. Demand to see Dr. Brian Porvin if you go to this location. I am dependent on healthcare providers to keep me comfortable, informed, and (not just one, but) several steps ahead of chronic health issues; some brought on by my own behavior, others congenital. It is, therefore, important to research available providers: reviews ~ a natural first step, the group practice as a whole ~ to appreciate the care philosophy, the providers' course study ~ curricula vitae: DO, MD, nursing BA/MA/LPN. This Office 'ticked all the boxes', if you will. Personally, I prefer the training provided by osteopathic programs over the Cartesian. Brian Porvin, DO is my choice. Our initial visit proved my educated instincts are accurate. Strong impression. Strong holistic care. Better prepared for our introduction than other providers in my history. Again, this review is written during the Covid19 pandemic. I entered the office met with an extended index finger of a standing maskless person wearing black scrubs sans name tag behind a desk on a cell phone indicating ... what? I felt threatened and silenced. I backed outside and closed the door. Took a breath. Counted to 10. Walked back in to find the person to be just as the earlier description. Without a single word she pointed to a laminated sign to read then pointed a thermometer at my forehead. NOT. a SINGLE. Word. then, still talking on the cell phone waved me off. The Check-In staff restored the Office's professional level I anticipated. Get this: coupled with such hospitality and interest with a fabulous appropriate sense of humor and wit I felt at home! AT. HOME! A request to speak with the Office Manager after my appointment was honored. Another fantastic experience. Thank you. I am more than impressed with your hiring instincts because the front desk, the MA, the check-out are top notch. They said they "would follow up with doctor and get back to us" They also said they had no follow up appointments for 2 months. This review covers their main office in Phoenix and the Deer Valley office. Avoid them, you will waste a lot of time and money and still not have what you need for basic sleep equipment. The administration staff does not discuss things with Drs even when the Drs want them to, they change what the Dr decided and say you need to do test the Drs say you do not need to do, they lie and say your insurance requires costly test/procedures that your insurance does not. Looks like they are just trying to make a lot of money without doing a lot of work (they have DMEs write prescriptions and what ever Dr. is around signs off without even reading chart notes or talking it over with your Dr.). We were trying to get replacement equipment for sleep apnea and need information sent to insurance. We started the process 3 months ago at the Phoenix office and are still at square one. We had to make an appointment in order to ask for status (waste of time and money) as they will not give your messages to Drs/Nps. Only one out of 20 calls ever got returned, this includes for appointments (yes, we got a recording repeatedly for that one and had to call until I caught them answering the phone). I called the office manager as she should be correcting the problem with no phone calls ever being returned. She didn't seem concerned about that at all. The office manager does not understand the basic issues and says ridiculous things (e.g. come get a walking O2 test as that will qualify you for sleeping equipment). She would say someone would call with the info each time we spoke to her and they would never call. They hand everything over to the DME to prescribe equipment for you but as anyone knows DMEs are not well run and will give you whatever and then say oh, insurance didn't cover that you need to pay out of pocket (because they didn't properly submit the paperwork needed). Our insurance said they needed the Dr to submit the paperwork, not a DME (as it should be Drs do the prescribing, not DMEs who just sell the equipment). We finally made an appointment to talk to the NP and she said this is how the office works and indicated she hated it, they should have forwarding messages to her rather than trying to handle them on their own when they don't know what they are doing. We were given another number to call the NP's assistant directly but the assistant has not returned any calls in many weeks. After this appointment, I ran to a nearby kinkos and spent well over $100 to make copies of medical records from other Drs to be submitted to insurance for preapproval for the replacement equipment. A month after that and still no word and nobody returning any calls and nothing was submitted to insurance. Our NP moved to the deer valley office. I tried to reach her there. Again, no contact with the Dr was allowed, an administration assistant said she would investigate things and take care of it. About a week later she said a new sleep study was required. Now neither Dr (our original Dr nor the NP) wanted any sleep studies done ever. We have discussed this over the years, we have software on our cpap and have shared the reports with them and they said that is fine and said people do not sleep the same in a strange room with tons of wires on them as they do at home so our reports were more accurate. The assistant said our insurance required the sleep study but I knew they didn't. She went on about medicare guidelines and how she did this job every day for years. I reminded her we didn't have medicare and she said all insurance was the same. I said no, ours did not work like medicare. I checked with our insurance, they did not want any sleep study. This office used to be good, but now the admin run it - people with no medical training, they decide what needs to be done and apparently do things to earn more money for the office (e.g. unneeded studies) rather than taking care of patients. read more

The office staff was nice but the doctor didn't spend much time and they charged me an outrageous amount of money for the visit. When I received the bill I was shocked how they itemized it. I realized they are a "specialist" but they shouldn't be taking advantage of consumers that seriously need their help. I didn't go back due to the cost. read more
