My daughter takes a Jazz/Hip-Hop class that she really enjoys. I was a ballet girl, so I feel like her instruction is better preparation for the high school drill team than the concert stage, but that is just me being an old fuddy-duddy. You can drop in and pay for one class, or sign up for a series. A nice variety of classes for children, teens and adults -- In addition to jazz/hip-hop there is also ballet, tap, yoga and even belly dance (try it, it's fun). The space is small, but well-lit and airy. The mirrors are spaced panels and not the wall-to-wall type, so watching yourself and the instructor can be tricky if you aren't properly situated in the room.

I called another school before deciding on Demaira dance studio and the woman said their Summer beginner dance class was full. When I called here Ms. Kathy said I could do the drop in class and see if it was a "good fit" for my daughter. I LOVE and appreciate the flexibility of "drop-in" classes because with toddlers you don't want to commit because it may not work out. I had not purchased tap shoes for my daughter and Ms. Kathy was nice enough to let my daughter borrow and keep a small pair of tap shoes. So we "dropped-in" and my 3 1/2 year old who is shy to try new things gave this class a chance. It always takes her a few minutes to warm up but Ms. Kathy does have the "magic touch". Ms. Kathy does a combination beginner class for 3 and 4 year olds. The class starts off with 20 minutes of tap then 20 minutes of ballet and finally 20 minutes of tumbling. I LOVE that this class teaches a variety of dance styles, something I have not found anywhere else. I really needed to write this review because my daughter did take some ballet classes in the past in Chicago at a popular school on Southport and although the teachers were sweet they could not get her to participate for the full class. Ms. Kathy incorporates the different dance styles and makes the class fun for the girls. Ms. Kathy has been consistently friendly and my daughter has learned to look forward to going to Demaira Dance Studio. I really just want to thank you for your patience and consistency, Ms. Kathy! Not to mention there is open enrollment throughout the year for a very affordable price. There are many different events throughout the year such as Halloween parties, Christmas parties, a parade, and a few holiday performances followed by the big spring recital at the end of the year. My daughter wasn't able to perform in the holiday shows because I enrolled her right beforehand but we're looking forward to enjoying a full year of dance here in 2019! The highlight of my daughter's week is attending hip hop/ballet class, she can never wait to go back!

But with a caring and motivating teacher, my worries were superfluous. I was lucky I met Marcela. In her class, she demonstrates the moves step by step to new students and keeps an eye on every student's progress. We all feel welcomed and encouraged. The point is, we fall in love with Zumba coming at least twice a week, because feelings don't lie: the body just wants more before it feels relaxed and energized. Another intoxicating thing about Marcela's class is the exotic music. Same music and same routine, so we can be familiar with the moves before we continue to explore more. She began pre-ballet classes when she was three and now she is four and in the tap and ballet class. There is always more than one teacher and in the afternoon classes we had three teachers (which was great). The recital did not require overpriced costumes and it was broken into different age groups (3 recitals rather than one super long recital). We have had a very positive experience at this dance studio. Honestly any sport or activity before the age of four can be challenging for everyone and Miss Robin works hard to help the children and parents.

This is not the place for little ones!…read more My 2 1/2 year old was in the pre-ballet summer session and on the first day she started to cry when I left the room and was trying to leave. So, I brought her back to the circle and sat down with her. Ms. Robin yelled across the studio that I couldn't sit there and this is not a mommy and me class. She said I should let her cry and leave the room. However, every time I tried my daughter followed me and was able to open the door to come out. The teachers made zero effort to engage her or keep her in the studio. At that point Ms. Robin said I could sit in the corner with her and observe quietly. We sat and watched and still the teachers made no effort to include her in the class. They acted as if we were not there. After class Ms. Robin said not to worry and that some times it can take a whole session for them to get used to the class. The 2nd week it was more of the same. My daughter didn't want to participate and didn't want me to leave so we again watched from the side and were completely ignored by the teachers. Later that night Ms. Robin sent me an email saying that we can come to one more class but if my daughter cannot separate and stay in the class on her own we can't come to class and she will give me a partial refund. Never in my life have a heard of a 2 year old being kicked out of any recreational activity b/c of separation anxiety!

I even offered to pay the 17 dollars since they prorated June. So basically they wanted me to pay 51 dollars for one class in June. Also they advertise giving one free complimentary class, to see if your child loves it or not. That was honestly a whole fairytale as well. I don't know where on God's green earth they do business like this. My daughter will be going back to her old dance school, where they are parent friendly and welcoming to their dancers. I guarantee you will not receive it at Transcendance.
